Your Questions About Direct Marketing Association

Nancy asks…

What is the correct address for the Mail Preference Service?

I’m trying to get off the Direct Marketing Association mailing list so I will stop receiving junk mail and I have several addresses (2 in Carmel NY with different po boxes, one in Farmington NY) and their official website says I need to give them a check for $1 to get off the list but all the other websites don’t say anything about that (including the USPS website). Does anyone know what the correct address and instructions are?

Jere answers:

The Mail Preference Service division of the Direct Marketing Association (known as DMA) compiles a list of people who do not want junk mail. This list is provided to any company who requests it, usually magazines.

Write Mail Preference Service and request your name, address, and phone number be deleted from all mailing and marketing lists. Provide them with three spellings or variations of your name, as well as with any other names at your address (including previous occupants). They will retain your information for five years. At that time you should write again. Be sure to write when you move. Send your name and address. Be sure to sign and date your letter.

Mail Preference Service
c/o Direct Marketing Association
PO Box 9008
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008
212.768-7277

Joseph asks…

Can I trust that company that supposedly stops you from getting paper junk mail?

This may seem like a stupid question, but you know that company, the DMA (Direct Marketing Association), the company that is supposed to remove your name from the junk mail list. What keeps them from doing something shady with your information? How can we trust they don’t give our information out to other companies?

Jere answers:

Of course, in this day and age, it is hard to know who to trust. But, if you are willing to trust government (at least on something like this), check out the government link regarding this stuff:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt063.shtm

Not only do they provide links on whom to contact to stop junk mail, email, etc., but there is a bunch of stuff onthe bottom to complain if something bad happens. A little bit of extra protection.

Jere answers:

Dear Party,

Here’s my answer.

1. Direct marketing is continuing to become more ________ oriented.
> online (email + web)

2. Which of the following is NOT a reason that direct-mail marketing drives approximately one third of all U.S. Direct marketing sales?
A. Less expensive than TV and magazine ads
> b. High target market selectivity
c. Ability to be personalized
d. Measurable results
e. Flexibility

3. What characteristic of niche sites makes the medium MOST appealing to marketers?
> Responsiveness, because segmentation drives better results, significantly, but needs more work from marketers

4. Neal Murphy sells his company’s unique gift items on television programs broadcast on a channel that is entirely dedicated to selling goods and services. Neal is using ________.
> home shopping channel marketing

5. ABC Company sells directly to final consumers and avoids intermediaries, while catering to a broad group of demographic segments. This marketer falls under which online marketing domain
> business-to-consumers (B2C)

6. Which of the following is a factor that is likely to push a company to decide NOT to enter international markets?
A. The company’s home market is stagnant.
> b. The company would have to redesign its products.
C. The company needs to counterattack international competitors in their home markets.
D. Foreign markets present higher profit opportunities.
E. Global competitors have offered similar products at lower prices.

RATIONALE: b) The company would have to redesign its products. Because it’s a cost (that could be significant) that the company has to pay upfront to enter the market. A) and d) are favorable reasons to enter international market. C) could be perceived as an hindrance to enter other national markets, but of a lesser extent because the company in its own country is probably already competing with those competitors, so doing the same outside its national market doesn’t really make any difference. E) is an stronger hindrance to entering other national markets, but not as much because products can be sold at slightly higher price since there’s always a place for better quality products. Anyways, the company will still have the choice to adjust its prices to match competition.

7. Which of the following is a sociocultural factor that a company should consider before deciding to enter an international market?
A) political stability
b) population density
c) education
d) income distribution
> e) consumer lifestyles, beliefs, and values

RATIONALE: e) consumer lifestyles, beliefs, and values. First because this one is driven by or includes all the other factors. Second, it’s the highest factor in the socialcultural scale.

8. An international company that takes a(n) ________ view takes into account the entire global supply chain and marketing channel, forging an effective global value delivery network.
> 360-degree view

9. Coca-Cola markets internationally by ________ bottlers around the world for a fee or royalty and then supplying them with the syrups needed to produce Coke products
> charging

10. To maximize the toothpaste market in China, Crest needs to convince more of the Chinese population to brush their teeth. Which of the following would Crest be most likely to use to accomplish this?
> (forgot to provide alternatives)

11. A long-standing charge against intermediaries is that they mark up prices beyond the ________.
> reasonable, acceptable

12. Large marketing companies can use patents and heavy promotion spending to ________.

How to stop junk mail flyers?

How do you stop the junk mail flyers from stores and restaurants that get crammed into my mail box – a lot of these are not addressed to anyone

I already opted out on the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) but it didn’t worl

AND how do you stop people from leaving flyers at your door (that do not come in the mail)

Jere answers:

I’m having the same issue. I hate getting those darn flyers on my door. My only idea is to leave a sign saying “NO MORE FLYERS or I’m going to burn your damn business down!!!” Too harsh?

Linda asks…

Other than opting out of pre-screened credit and insurance offers, and the federal “do not call” registry****

**** and the direct marketing association at www.dmaconsumers.org, are there any other opt out programs from credit and insurance offers?

Jere answers:

Check to see if your state has an opt-out list for consumers. Ours does (Kentucky). It’s wonderful not to be interrupted by a marketer while I make dinner.

Your Questions About Business Online Banking

Linda asks…

Online Business Banking Account?

Hello, I need to set up an a business banking account in the UK. Is there a bank that will let me do this entirely online. Most banks want to contact me on phone or arrange a meeting in person. I would much rather do it all online, is this possible. Thanks

Jere answers:

Usually to set up any bank account you have to prove your identity, Passport, Utility Bills etc. Unless you have a bank account already then the answer is no. If you have an account then I suggest you contact them and ask them if it is possible, they will probably still want you to go in and talk about it, unfortunately.

Ken asks…

What should I do if I suspect that someone is using my business email address to sign up with online banking ?

Every so often my business email address gets email alerts from various different banks regarding online banking alerting us about people accessing it or setting it up etc.

Is there anything that can be done ?

Jere answers:

Multiple things can be going on:
These might be phishing attempts, not from the real bank, but faked to look like it; meant to get you to do some further action the mail includes (links, phone numbers, etc).

Your machine (Windows by any chance?) has been infected by any one of several ‘banking Trojans’ that has slurped your info and now crooks are attempting to access your bank(s) or set up some kind of identity theft scam.

Using a non-Internet landline phone, call these banks (number from a reliable source) and inquire about fraudulent activity.
I advise you also take the following action:
Credit & ID theft steps
Credit Report Request Service (US Gov. Approved site)

“This central site allows you to request a free credit file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, once every 12 months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.”
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

Note you can get all 3 reports at once, but since these are almost always identical, an alternate method would be to get 1 at a time, and rotate each agency every 3rd month. That way you can monitor your credit status year ’round for free.

Constant vigilance is now mandatory to assure you’ve not been compromised.
And stop using Windows to do banking. Use Linux.

Susan asks…

Adding a Business as Payee on Online Banking?

Good morning (EDT)!

I have a small business here in Canada and am interested in potentially adding my business to the payee list on online banking so that my clients can deposit directly to me.

I wanted to get some advice from someone who has done this or knows about the process. I have asked the bank and they haven’t gotten back to me yet.

What’s involved in doing this? Does it cost anything and if so, how much? Is there documentation available online regarding doing this? If I set up with my bank, do I have to set up with other banks I want to be listed with or can my bank coordinate this all for me?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Jere answers:

In the US, it mostly depends on how many people are sending bills to that payee. The more bills get sent out, the bigger likelihood the bank is going to want to stop writing checks and paying postage and will just direct deposit the bills.

Sounds like you’re not running a megacorp, so you’re probably stuck getting paper checks every time someone wants to pay you.

Jenny asks…

What type of banking is needed to start a small online business?

What type of banking is needed to start a small online business?
Hello,

Me and my Friend want to start a website selling items. We are not sure about banking though, what bank account we need and how to open them. We are only 15.

Thanks for your help.

Jere answers:

You can open an account as sando says but you will still need a bank account to transfer the money to because they do not write checks anymore they do direct deposits. You can also start a merchant account which allows you to use all the major credit cards but of course you need to have a bank account to do this and set it up through them.

As far as a what type of bank account you need is another question. If you plan to run the business as a sole proprietor under your Social Security number then you can open a bank account in your name with a DBA attached to it (Doing Business As) which is what ever you choose to name your business. You want to check to make sure the name you use is not already active or you may be in trademark or copyright infringement.

Since you are doing it with a friend you will most likely set the business up as a partnership and I don’t think you can do this under a basic business license, you may have to incorporate as a limited partnership, it’s something to check out. The banks may also require you to incorporate in order to open a business bank account. The best thing to do is call your local city government and have the question answered about partnerships then talk to the bank to see what is required of you two to open a bank account.

The other problem I see is that you are 15 and the banks may not allow you to open a bank account of any type without a parent or guardian to co-sign the account so check this out. The same applies to forming a business.

Sorry I can’t be of more help but I hope this gets you going in the right direction.

Good luck to you and your friend.

Laura asks…

How long do Barclays take to send out your business account log in details for online banking?

I registered for it last monday 30th may i have received the PINsentry card reader on saturday but not my log in details yet
hamishthewestie i tired that and it said it doesnt recognize my details!

Jere answers:

Membership number should come via email but you can find that out now by visiting the website going to the log in details and selecting forgotten membership number. It will ask you for certain information and give you the membership number then and there. Now you have your PIN sentry reader you can log on with your debit card and PIN number. For details how to use the reader theres info on the website too.

**EDIT** SORRY ROB DIDNT REALISE IT WAS FOR BUSINESS – YOU NEED TO CALL BUSINESS TELEPHONY ON 0845 605 2345 AND THEY CAN PROVIDE IT OVER THE PHONE

You can actually do lot of things with the Internet today. Establish first a place where you can have your business and then create a website for you to publish your products online. For payment, there is paypal and several other services you can use. You also need join seminar on how to successfully establish an online business.

Laura asks…

How can i start online business that how to buy and sell goods and services online. ?

my name is nicodemus am 4rm nigeria and a student in university of calabar.my email address is nicodemusnwokolo@yahoo.com.

Jere answers:

Well on ebay companies from china sell bulk loads of items for cheap like acessories for example.

Then u sell it for a profit

Steven asks…

What type of business services would you wish to see offered online?

The question pretty much explains itself. If you were given the opportunity where you could have a business offer its services online, what business would you go for? One that you don’t see quite often even though you think it should be made available.

NOTE: By services I don’t mean buying things…Services are things you pay for but don’t really have a physical item of that payment (For instance if you payed for a book..you get a book which is a physical item..but a service would be paying someone to clean the house or tutor you and such)

Jere answers:

Waterproofing, I have a major leak

Starting an Affiliate Marketing Campaign

Some business owners opt to start an affiliate marketing campaign as part of their overall marketing strategy. In most cases the affiliate marketing campaign is only a small portion of the overall marketing strategy but there are some business owners who opt to rely exclusively on this type of marketing. The main purpose of doing this is to save money while still achieving valuable advertising. However, once a business becomes more successful they should consider being more proactive and combining affiliate marketing with other types of Internet marketing such as placing banner ads and orchestrating an email marketing campaign. This article will take a look at what affiliate marketing is and will provide insight into why this is popular and how it can be used effectively.

An affiliate marketing campaign is essentially a situation where other website owners place ads for your business on their websites. These website owners are known as affiliates. It is important to understand how this type of marketing works. In general the affiliates are given code for your banner ad to place on their website and given the freedom to promote their own website as they see fit. In promoting their website they are also attracting attention to your website because of the banner ad directing visitors to your own website.

One of the most appealing elements of affiliate marketing is the affiliate is only compensated when he produces a desired result. This means the business owner is not obligated to pay the affiliate unless the affiliate is successful. Success may be defined as generating traffic to the website, resulting in a sale or even resulting in the Internet user registering on your website or filling out a survey. The compensation for affiliates is generally based on cost per click, cost per lead or cost per sale. Cost per click and cost per lead are usually paid in terms of a flat fee which is awarded to the affiliate each time an Internet user either simply clicks through the banner ad on his website or performs a specific action after clicking through the ad. Cost per sale may result in the affiliate being awarded a flat fee or a percentage of the sale depending on the agreement between the business owner and the affiliate.

The most effective use of affiliate marketing is to actively seek out affiliates with a proven track record of promoting the businesses which they support. Most affiliate programs are open to anyone with a website and it is not necessarily damaging to allow those who are not particularly knowledgeable about marketing to run your banner ad but it is far more worthwhile to seek out affiliates who are quite adept and generating website traffic to their own website. This is important because the more visitors they receive each month the more likely your website it to receive interest from visitors who click on the affiliates banner ad.

Another aspect of affiliate marketing which can contribute to success or failure is the design of your banner ads. It is important to remember affiliate marketing is viewed the same way other types of marketing are viewed and care should be taken to create banner ads which will be appealing to your target audience. This means everything from the colors of your ad to the size and style of the font should be carefully considered to create an appealing advertisement.

Your Questions About Internet Business Plan

Carol asks…

How do I go about trying to find investors for a great internet business plan?

I have a great plan of starting an online business. How can I approach investors and what do I need to do in order to achieve this?

Jere answers:

Assuming you have already approached your friends, relatives and colleagues, you may want to explore possible investment assistance from angel investors

Business 2.o Magazine http://money.cnn.com/2006/02/28/magazines/business2/angelinvestor/index.htm has a very good article on angel investors, what they typically look for, what kind of investments they support, etc.

You may want to go and pitch your ideas where investors gather. Here are some places where angel investors come and those looking for funding can come and pitch their business plans. Be sure to have a strong business plan and describe what makes your business idea stand apart:

I have a cunning internet business plan?

Building profitable websites for companies whether they want me to or not. If they like it, they can offer to buy them off me. I have trouble getting employment even though I’m quite capable of building profitable websites, so this seems like a good course of action for me. Any ideas?

Jere answers:

Good idea. You should build a standard sales pitch emphasizing the benefits of having a web presence, and how the cost of your website can be paid for by adding only [xx] new customers! Should pretty much sell itself, as long as you keep your cost reasonable.

I’m surprised every day how many businesses do not have a website. Part of my job is researching new companies/sources of supply, and my best tool is the internet. No website, no business.

Paul asks…

How to plan for my internet business to go IPO?

I have a internet business and it’s generating stable revenue for 3 years. It’s software business. How do I plan for IPO?

1. Do I have to make “lots” of money first?
2. Do I have to find investors?

Thank you.

Jere answers:

It would be better if you wait it out and get enough traffic to land to advertisors. Thats where the big money is.

Your Questions About Doing Business Online Government

Helen asks…

do i need to register my online business with any government agency?

i just started an online business and am working on getting it up and running but i want to do it the total legal way.. do i need to register it with any government agency or get a business license or anything?
thanks

Jere answers:

Most businesses are required to obtain a business license, even if the business is an online business operating out of someone’s home. Requirements vary by city and state, so you want to check with your local government office. You can use the Business.gov website to get information online about your city/county/state requirements.

When you start a company, the legal name of your business is required on government forms, like your applications for an employer tax ID, business licenses, permits, etc. You will also need a business name for important business tasks such as opening a bank account, signing a business contract, etc.

If you are the sole owner of a business, by default, your personal name becomes the legal name of the business. If you are doing business or selling products under a name other than your personal name, you’ll probably need to register your business name.

More information:

Mary asks…

Jenny asks…

Can you please tell me the names of some email marketing companies in India?

I want to know if there are Internet marketing companies in India? I want their names??

Jere answers:

Http://www.targetseo.com is provides seo as well as email marketing solution.

Daniel asks…

How exactly do email marketing companies work?

Do you just pay them to send out emails to an opt in list and design if needed or are there other fees too, like fees for links and fees for every time that link is clicked?

Jere answers:

Try this:
http://marketing-and-publishing.ebookorama.com/

Mandy asks…

Have you ever used on of those mass email marketing companies? Do they work?

I’m talking about the ones that provide millions of email addresses for $30.

Jere answers:

I have found the list provided by most cheap (under$200) services are very poor quality. Most of the e-Mail accounts were at one time valid but have been closed for a very long time. Many of the accounts are hotmail and Yahoo which are also opened and closed faster than a windmill spins in a tycoon. Effective e-Mail marketing requires not only valid accounts but it also requires a “filtered” and “targeted” audience.

Filtered: The members of the list have had the opportunity to opt out or get off of the mailing list and have instead chosen to stay listed.

Targeted: The products and services you sell are the products and services people on the list are interested in reading about and buying. You don’t want to try to sell dust busters to a list developed by pornography web sites. Selling a dust buster would make better sales from a list developed by Home and Garden web sites.

Ask the list developer what the ratios are. Ratios of valid mail accounts to dropped. Ratio of sales to number of leads provided. Ask what the target audience of the list is. Ask how the list has been developed and how it has been tested. Ask how many copies of the list have been sold and how many more times will they be selling the same list. Ask for a 30 day money back policy or free trial period.

John asks…

What are some good EMail Marketing companies?

I have heard that this is the way to go….

Jere answers:

Do the survey on this site an info will be sent to you www.GardenHoldings.com

Internet Marketing with an E Newsletter

One very popular Internet marketing strategy is to publish and distribute an e-newsletter on a regular basis. E-newsletters are essentially emails which may contain content, graphics, links and subtle forms of advertising. In general e-newsletters should be informative in nature and useful to the recipient but should also serve some type of marketing purpose as well. This article will examine e-newsletters and explain how they can be used effectively as a marketing strategy.

The first item to consider when attempting using an e-newsletter as a marketing strategy is the distribution list for the e-newsletter. This is very important because you want to ensure you are distributing your e-newsletter to recipients who will be interested in your products and services and will likely view the e-newsletter as worthwhile instead of viewing it as spam. Using deceptive tactics to harvest email addresses and sending out your e-newsletters blindly to a large audience is not a good marketing strategy. This strategy is not worthwhile for a couple of reasons. Most importantly this type of strategy does not help you to reach your target audience. You may reach some members of your target audience by accident but are not likely to reach a large population of this intended audience.

Additionally, sending your e-newsletter unsolicited to a large audience with no interest in your products and services will likely result in your e-newsletter being viewed as spam. This can have more serious consequences than simply being a wasted effort. Specifically, recipients of your e-newsletter may block your email address or even report you to their Internet service provider as a spammer. This can have damaging consequences such as loss of business or even harsher penalties.

A better way to establish a distribution list for your e-newsletter is to set up a forum for interested potential customers to register to receive additional information from you. This could include registering with your website online and requesting to be added to your email distribution list or providing an email address and requesting additional information in some other manner. Sending your e-newsletter to recipients who have specifically requested more information is a good idea because these Internet users are already interested in your products and are likely to appreciate the e-newsletter instead of viewing it as spam.

The content of your e-newsletter should be considered next. This may include the actual copy contained within the e-newsletter as well as graphics, links and advertisements. Keeping direct advertising to a minimum is ideal but it is acceptable to use soft advertising techniques to promote your products or services. The copy in your e-newsletter should insightful information which will be useful to your readers. You may wish to include objective articles, product reviews or shorter articles containing useful tips. Links to your own website or to other websites which might be of use to your target audience can also be included. These links may come in the form of direct advertisements or the links may be embedded in the copy of the e-newsletter when appropriate.

If you plan to utilize an e-newsletter to promote your products or services, you should consider hiring an experienced writer to create the content for your website. This will help to ensure you are providing your readers with top quality content. Likewise if you intend to include graphics you should have a graphic designer assist you to ensure your e-newsletter looks professionally put together.

Robert asks…

what other jobs a marketing mba can get other than direct selling, visiting customers houses .?

actually i am a very shy person,i complete my graduation in arts stream so i prefer marketing but dont want to engage myself in direct selling or maintaining customer relationship and visiting their houses.what are the others options before me after completing the marketing MBA.what are the other portfolios that i can work in future.

Jere answers:

You are potentially qualified to have your own successful Internet marketing business. You can be an anonymous marketer promoting products and services through content marketing. You can even conquer your own shyness eventually. Many of the IM big dogs are shy people.

Marketing in the manner that you described is a struggle. What you should do is not to go after your prospects but to do something where your prospects will naturally follow you. What you have in your head is a lot of practical advice. Share it with the world. Contribute content to the Internet. Write, publish, then earn recurring income.

You can start for free as there are free blogging platforms and hosted website facilities. You can even start just by creating topical content at Web 2.0 sites like HubPages and Squidoo.

Choose a niche market you find comfortable with. Build on it. Find affiliate programs to promote. Eventually you will master the nuances of Internet marketing and make more money than you would normally do while slaving for a day job.

Joseph asks…

Direct Sales Jobs?

Why does everyone think direct sales or direct marketing jobs are scams. I know there are a lot of scams out there, but how do I introduce my opportunity without someone writing it off as a scam ?

http://www.freewebs.com/forabetteryou
Hmm, thanks for your honest feedback, Amanda. I was trying to be as honest as possible because I did climb the corp ladder and decided to stay home to be with my son. The reason you can’t buy from my site is because we don’t “sell” the products ourselves. It’s called referral marketing – we refer consumers to the company. How else can I phrase that? I will try and update it, but would appreciate any additional feedback. Thanks!

Jere answers:

Its all in your presentation…….

Sandy asks…

How enjoyable is a job in outsourced direct marketing?

I’m currently happily working as a warehouse manager, but I have been offered a direct marketing job with slightly better pay. They offer similar benefits and advancement opportunities, I’m just wondering if the change in atmosphere and commute is worth it. The thing that concerns me is I don’t know if direct marketing is enjoyable or stressful. The job entails giving sales presentations to businesses. The products I’d sell would be conferencing and phone services.
So anyone who’s had or knows someone who has had a job like this tell me, is direct marketing a somewhat fun job or will I feel terrible and exhausted when I come home every day (based on the stress levels in this field)?

Jere answers:

Direct marketing is a completely different skillset, and it is definately stressful. You will be a salesperson, which requires you to really get out there and hustle. If you are a self-motivated person who is good at communication, people skills, and persuasion, go for it, but it will not be a walk in the park.

Call the company, pretending to be a stranger, ask to speak to one of thier direct marketers, and ask them for the lowdown.

Mandy asks…

Marketing jobs involving commercials?

I’ve recently become interested in getting a job in marketing. In the past I’ve only been interested in jobs in the film industry, but the industry doesn’t seem very reliable for getting a job. What marketing jobs involve commercials? I know directing commercials is an entirely different job, but are there any marking jobs that involve working with commercials, preferrably high-paying? I want to major in marketing and minor in telecommunication. Does this sound like a good idea? Also, are there any marketing jobs that involve computers and media other than the television?

Jere answers:

Graphic design is heavily computer based, and its marketing influence is widespread. Even if you don’t get a job in it, I’d suggest knowing your way around Photoshop just as a general beneficial skill. Marketing itself is a job, actually. You work within a company to market products. There’s also public relations, that seems to be more of an active job than a desk job though.

Basically, send your resume to the company, see what happens. You probably wont be placed in a high-paying position first off, but you work your way up the line by doing a good job. Most likely you’ll be a sales/marketing position.

I’d suggest going with Marketing/business/telecommunications. Double minor or double major if you can handle it. Companies drool all over MBAs.

Your Questions About The Real Biz

Helen asks…

They say that the only way to win in the Real Estate Biz is not to bluff, has anybody ever bluffed and won?

In his book “To be or Not to be Intimidated” Robert Ringer says that the only way to win in real estate negotiations is not to bluff. He says that whenever he said he’d walk out of a deal, he meant it and usually won. Has anybody ever bluffed and won a negotiation? What happened?

Jere answers:

People bluff in real estate all the time. When negotiations get tough, each agent wants the other agent to believe or convey the message that his side will walk if the other doesn’t comply but yet they go back and forth a couple more times and settle somewhere in the middle usually. So both bluff and both win many times.
It would feel good to walk when you say you’re going to but the reality is your client usually still wants the home or the sale and you also want the deal.

Jenny asks…

Domain resellers,is it worth buying domains such as SONY.net and GM.biz?do the real biz really care to buy em?

Jere answers:

You can take a look at LGN Revolution. It’s a home based business system for moms or dads. Your over head will depend on which level you choose. And a monthly fee of $25.95 to maintain your website. You’ll receive many tools for marketing, free members only marketing training 4 days a week, The CEO/Founder speaks to members on a regular and almost daily basis. 100% commissions goes to members of LGN Revolution. This is the only system that allows for you to brand yourself while using their system and tools.

James Ward the CEO works hard daily to make sure that the system is as easy as possible for all members, that they have the marketing tools so that you are saved extra expense from having to use additional marketing systems, that they are able to brand themselves, and constantly make changes to improve the system about every 6 months over the last two years. I can go on and on, but the truth of the matter is that the decision is yours. If you’ve have any questions you can request for chat or a call back from a member.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Online In Singapore

Chris asks…

I’d to get some items wholesale fr US. However, I was asked to furnish Tax Id ,etc. I’m not from US. How?

I’m not from USA, I’m planning to do a online business in Singapore. What should I do to get myself a Tax Id?
The saddest part is I have been trying to explain to them that I need not have a Tax ID as I’m not selling in US, or setting up my business in US. However, they insist that this is a procedure. They are already aware that I’m from Singapore after umpteen times of emphasis 🙂

Jere answers:

“Tax ID #” is for companies. Individuals in the USA use their Social Security number for tax purposes.

You can set up a company in the USA and just apply for a Tax ID number. You do not have to incorporate if you don’t want to; a sole proprietor, partnership, etc. Can apply and get a Tax ID number. I have one for my Sole Proprietorship and a separate one for my Corporation (I am a US citizen and my companies are here). I believe you may need to have someone represent you with a physical address here.

The costs are negligible, but I have no idea if there is much red tape for a foreign national to go through. I can tell you that Singapore is highly respected in our US business community. Also, my daughter had a tremendous time in your country, found people very respectful and respectable.

For the cheapest, fastest, and simplest way, I think I would go to a search at google or yahoo, put in “tax id number”, find the IRS site, and follow those instructions. Avoid the advertisements, as they will just charge you money for what you can do yourself. I did mine in minutes, for no additional fee.

Helen asks…

Online Business?

Hi, I wish to register a domain and do an online e-commerce. May I know how to go doing it in singapore? What kind of registration I have to go throught? Thanks.

Jere answers:

If you are a small time seller or buyer why not try Ebay, Yahoo auction, mocca or your various hobbies try the relevant group forum where you can also sell and buy. As for operating a bussiness in Singapore one had to be register with ACRA (formely know as the Registry of Companies) and IDA (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore) check with them whether you should register with them for your ecommerce.

William asks…

Do I need to copyright/trademark my designs & name for an online business?

Hi everyone. I wish to start an online business selling self-designed printed goods/merchandises, and all designs will revolve around a female character originated from me. I do hope that maybe one day, I can open a shop as well. But I do have few questions regarding Intellectual Property, and I’m hoping that you guys can help me with them. 🙂

1) Is there a need to register the trademark for the company’s name?
2) Can I trademark the female? Or is it auto-copyrighted by law? If not, how can I protect my designs?
3) Must I register the company?

Btw, I live in Singapore.

Jere answers:

The company’s name can’t be trademarked. An image incorporating the name is what is trademarked. That is, the font and layout is part of the trademark. If you try to trademark a name itself, it will be too vague and the mark will likely be rejected.

The female is not trademarked unless it is an icon of your business. If you wish, trademarking it may be done so that it can be used as a recognized icon for your business. Yes, it is yours by default by copyright law, but the only true defense against copyright infringement is to register a copyright legally, to prove ownership in a court of law.

The company does not normally need to be legally registered. If you register the company, it earns money and pays taxes. If you do not register the company, you earn money and pay taxes. I believe any business that earns over a certain amount needs to be registered for tax purposes, but this will depend on your local laws.

Jere answers:

Thanks for contacting PayPal. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your questions.

We have a feature that would allow the funds in your PayPal account balance to be automatically transferred to your bank account.

Auto-Sweep is an optional feature that enables you to have the funds in your Business or Premier account automatically transferred to an external U.S. Bank account on a nightly basis. The funds will post to your bank account in 3-4 business days. To have the Auto-Sweep feature activated, please contact our Customer Service Department.

To enable Auto-Sweep once activated, please follow these steps:
1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/.
2. Click the “Profile” tab.
3. Click “Auto-Sweep” in the “Financial Information” column.
4. Click “Edit.”
– A bank account must be added and confirmed
– Your withdrawal limit must be lifted
5. To enable Auto-Sweep, select “Yes” under the question “Would you like to enable Auto-Sweep?”
6. Select the bank account.
7. Click “Save.”

When you add funds to your account, the Auto-Sweep feature will automatically be disabled. This is to ensure that the funds are not swept back out to a bank account. You can enable the functionality again at any time.

Account Requirements for Auto Sweep:

– Must have a Verified Business or Premier account
– Must have a confirmed bank account

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Creating Email Lists for Marketing Campaigns

If you plan to do some Internet marketing to promote your business endeavor, you should seriously consider email marketing as at least one tier of your Internet marketing campaign. Many business owners shy away from email marketing because they believe all email marketing campaigns are purely spam. However, this is not true and not partaking in this type of marketing can cause your business to lose out on a great deal of business. By not appealing to potential customers via email, your business may lose a great deal of business to competitors who are using email marketing campaigns to reach customers around the world. However, the first step of an email marketing campaign should be creating an email distribution list. This article will discuss some popular options for doing this and should help to the reader to learn more about what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to email marketing.

Once you have made the decision to start using email marketing to promote your business you are likely facing the dilemma of compiling an email distribution list. This is essentially a list of email addresses to which you will email your advertising and promotional materials. One common way to gain a list of email addresses is to purchase a list from distributors. However, this method is not very effective at all and we do not recommend it. The problem with purchasing an email list if you have no way of knowing whether or not the members of the list would have any interest at all in your products or services. This is very important because while you want to reach a large audience with your email marketing you also want this audience to be members of your overall target audience.

When you purchase an email list you may be sending your email messages to some users who might be interested but this is largely coincidental and is not likely to be well received because the message was not solicited.

Internet users are very quick to delete materials they believe to be spam without even opening or reading the emails. In fact some Internet service providers include spam filters which may automatically delete your emails if your messages are deemed to be spam. These filters run complex algorithms on the subject heading and content of the message to determine whether or not it is spam and are quite adept at weeding out spam. Therefore you run the risk of having your email marketing effort turn out to be a complete waste if the majority of recipients never even read or receive the message.

A far better way to create an email distribution list for your email marketing campaign is to ask current customers as well as interested potential customers to register with your website to receive additional information and periodic updates about your products and services as well as other information which might be of interest to them. This provides you with a database of email addresses from current customers as well as potential customers who have a genuine interest in your products and services and who are interested in learning more about these products and services.

Once you have a list of interested customers or potential customers you can send emails or create e-newsletter for distribution to the members of your email list. These documents should contain a wealth of valuable information as well as a soft sell pitch for your products and services. This information will be valued by the readers and may help to persuade them to try your products and services.

You might also want to include useful links to either your website as well as other websites which may be of interest to your readers. Your content should also contain a portion which urges the reader to take a specific action such as making a purchase or at least investigating a product further.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Inc

Donald asks…

E-Antiques Inc. is an Internet-based market maker for buyers and sellers of antique furniture and jewellery. T?

E-Antiques Inc. is an Internet-based market maker for buyers and sellers of antique furniture and jewellery. The company allows sellers of antique items to list descriptions of those items on the E-Antiques web site. Interested buyers review the web site for antique items and then enter into negotiations directly with the seller for purchase. E-Antiques receives a commission for each transaction.

The company, founded in 2000, initially obtained capital through equity funding provided by the founders and through loan proceeds from financial institutions. In early 2003, E-Antiques became a publicly held company when it began selling shares on a national stock exchange. Although the company had never generated profits, the stock offering generated huge proceeds based on favourable expectations for the company, and the stock quickly increased to above $100 per share.

Management used the proceeds to payoff loans to financial institutions and to reacquire shares issued to the company founders. Proceeds were also used to fund purchases of hardware and software to support the online market. The balance of unused proceeds is currently held in the company’s bank accounts.

Required
a.Before performing analytical procedures related to the capital acquisition and repayment cycle accounts, consider how the process of becoming publicly held would affect accounts at E-Antiques Inc. Describe whether each of the following balances would increase, decrease, or experience no change between 2002 and 2003 because of the public offering:
(1)Cash
(2)Accounts receivable
(3)Property, plant, and equipment
(4)Accounts payable
(5)Long-term debt
(6)Common stock
(7)Retained earnings
(8)Dividends
(9)Revenues
b.During 2004, the stock price for E-Antiques plummeted to around $19 per share. No new shares were issued during 2004. Describe the impact of this drop in stock price on following accounts for the year ended December 31, 2004:
(1)Common stock
(2)Retained earnings
c.How does the decline in stock price affect your assessment of client business risk and acceptable audit risk?

Jere answers:

Although the company had never generated profits, the stock offering generated huge proceeds based on favourable expectations for the company, and the stock quickly increased to above $100 per share.

Management used the proceeds to payoff loans to financial institutions and to reacquire shares issued to the company founders. Proceeds were also used to fund purchases of hardware and software to support the online market. The balance of unused proceeds is currently held in the company’s bank accounts.

Looking at the above information, these accounts would have increase:
1) Cash
(3) Property, plant, and equipment
(6) ? Common stock–Even though the money was used to reaquire shares from the owner’s, the Common Stock account should have increased.
(8) ? Dividends–Only if dividends were declared. If not, there would be no change.

These Accounts would have decreased:
(5) Long-term debt

No Change:
(2) Accounts receivable
(4) Accounts payable
(7) Retained earnings
(9) Revenues

b. During 2004, the stock price for E-Antiques plummeted to around $19 per share. No new shares were issued during 2004. Describe the impact of this drop in stock price on following accounts for the year ended December 31, 2004:
A change in market price will not affect any accounts.
(1) Common stock
(2) Retained earnings

c. How does the decline in stock price affect your assessment of client business risk and acceptable audit risk?
It should increase both.

According to Google.Inc which contry will be the largest internet market in the future?

GiftHouse.us.com? and Bullseye Marketing, Inc.?

Whoa! Stay away from these “free trial, free product” ads. For the first time in 10 years I clicked on the “Victoria Secret Free Fit Flop” pretty pink yahoo.ad. Clicking the pretty pink sent me to GiftHouse.us.com…learn from me and avoid these sites. Had to install new (additional) Spam Software, Had to cancel and reissue my visa card…the whole damn mess.
As expected, there is no Cust. Service Tel.# for GiftHouse.us.com and their contracted site Bullseye Marketing, Inc. GOOD NEWS IS, I have found Maryland State Attorney General Filings against this internet company who rides on the back on Bullseye Marketing, Inc. I’m searching for IP addresses in order to forward to the State of Washington Attorney Generals office. Any help is appreciated.

Jere answers:

Hi,

I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies). One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals. These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book). The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they’re ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.

My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive. I signed up a few weeks ago because they’re giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter’s their company info. I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)

I don’t know if they still have that promotion, but you can try to get the free card holder here:

Good Luck

Richard asks…

Do you think Yahoo! Inc will re-enter the China Internet Market now that Google is out?

Seriously, they never had any issues with human rights when the Chinese government wanted to seek information on any of the groups opposed to their rule. Yahoo cooperated fully with the Chinese and the information they provided to the Chinese government resulted in several people being tossed into Chinese prisons. Mr. Yang later settled with the families of those convicted by the Chinese courts to the tune of $100M, but only after Yahoo was brought up before a senate committee hearing on the issue. So, now that Google has decided to leave China due to censorship, will yahoo jump back in the ring in trying to boost their ad revenue? Remember, Yahoo makes 80% of their revenue from display ads posted on their sites. What do you think?

Jere answers:

I am not so sure about it.

I am trying to sync my v3 motorola razr phone (that has mobile web) with my Yahoo calendar and address book. hep hekp hekp — this ? has been on here 3 days – and not one answer– c’mon now — where are you brainiacs- techies-geek squads — YA Wizards where all y’all confused in cali and need your wisdom!
i meant help help help — sorry – a type-o queen – too tired to spell check – oi!

Jere answers:

Apology accepted, m’am. That was wordy, and I’ll have to summarize, and even ask questions back.

OK: you’re synch’ing your device (Motorola Razor v3 )
with Yahoo.

You achieved the message: “sync was successful”

Good start.

However, if you are performing this process via a wireless (cellular provider or wi-fi) connection you may encounter difficulties.

Best to start with a foundation of sufficient “bars” if its a wireless internet connection.

If you did not yet read documentation that comes with any of your programs, do so. You’ll save yourself and others twobble.

Meanwhile, you’ll find others have asked questions, or pose your own, and get more exacting answers from moderated discussion lists at Yahoo Groups (Autosync) pages. It’s a Yahoo Group – can’t hurt.

Now, I hope you’re not reading this on your cellphone, ‘coz now it’s me who’s wordy.

Check out the Motorola site web pages.

Susan asks…

Pda Phone Help!?

Hi, I am begging to get into online business and Ive been loking into getting a smartphone but i just cant decide. My provider is Verizon Wireless and my 2-year discount on the phone does not come until next January. I was wondering where I could get a cheap Motorola Q or a blackberry at a low price without a plan or if i should just wait until January?

Jere answers:

If you on a plan of $49.99 or higher and you have satisfied 12 months of having your existing phone, you would qualify for an early upgrade with a $20 processing fee. This would get you the discount price.

Otherwise you could check eBay…

Your Questions About Business Online Services Group

Daniel asks…

Accountants and Bookkepers: Which online referral services have brought best results?

I’m own an accounting services group specializing in small business bookkeeping and training in the Los Angeles area. I want to advertise my services at some websites dedicated to referral services for accountants and bookkeepers. Some display testimonials from “clients” who indicate the site has brought them up to five clients a month. Which sites have worked best for you?

Jere answers:

Even though this doesn’t directly answser your question, I wanted to give you another option. Take a look at
www.citysearch.com
If you like what you see but have questions, contact me at 866.606.8850 (that’s my direct line) and I will be able to answer all your questions.

Ruth asks…

How can I effectively promote & market our services online?

We provide professional editing, writing and research assistance for individuals, businesses or groups (pls. check http://custom-writing.net) … from corporate communications to fictional books.

Jere answers:

Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! And Google

A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

4) Advertise on Craiglist

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other’s sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

I listed a few handy sites & articles relating to marketing, promotion & advertising. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* 301 Do-It-Yourself Marketing Ideas: From America’s Most Innovative Small Companies by Sam Decker
* Off The Wall Marketing Ideas: Jumpstart Your Sales without Busting Your Budget by Nancy Michaels, Debbi J. Karpowicz

* Entrepreneur Magazine’s Ultimate Small Business Marketing Guide: Over 1500 Great Marketing Tricks That Will Drive Your Business Through the Roof by James Stephenson

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Maria asks…

What should I name my business?

I am going to start freelancing in online communications, social media, and website development, aimed primarily at small business, individuals and community groups, especially those who are not the most tech savvy, or who are taking their business online for the firs time, or want to start using social media for the first time.

But I’m having a hard time coming up with a name for it. 🙁

I want to communicate the following ideas: trust, reliability, friendly, partnership, making connections online in order to build community / audience

What do you think of:

Adelante

Advance

Dispatch

Drive

Corral

Evolve

Boost

Conquer

Progress

Fetch

Flock

And what about adding one of these to the end, or as a subtitle:
Online Communications
Business Services
Online Engagement Services
Solutions
Services

Do you like any of these? Or would you call it something completely different? Many thanks in advance for your help 🙂

Jere answers:

Suggestions: Try “googling” these names – and see what you get – some may be used already – and you can not duplicate — Also try seeing what is available as a “domain Name” – (like @ Go Daddy or other domain sites) – That may narrow your choices —
Also – don’t make the name so “obscure” that no one will readily know what you are offering —
like – what’s an “online engagement services”? Sounds like a match-making site — or a bridal consultant –
“Boost” is a brand name – etc. – you just have to be careful of things like that —
Using your name makes it less likely to be “copyrighted” already – Like –
“Business Online by Liz” —
Good luck –

How to find a person/firm in UK to promote my lucrative ONLINE-LIVE-TUTORING business ?

I post this question for the 3rd time now.So far NO one gave me satisfactory answers.I am not offering any jobs here. Dear people, I am based in Srilanka. I have an idea of launching an ONLINE-LIVE-TUTORING service for UK residing students. But, I have NO real contacts in UK to promote this business. Online tutoring delivered from South-Asia(ie,from India & Srilanka) is growing at a rapid rate of 400% per year.Bcoz, south-Asian tutors can deliver the same quality education available in the UK/US via internet for around 1/3rd of the tuition fees in the UK/US. This is a win-win situation. But, we are not a large corporate business to open offices in the UK. Thus I need a firm/person who can promote our services in the UK,and in return, they can earn a lucrative profit. We never charge any franchise fees, upfront fees etc. But, the UK Representer should work well in order to find students by doing some simple activities such as placing news-paper ads, issuing hand bills to libraries etc. There are more than 150000 students in our target group of audience, and if the Rep can find at least 75 of them, they can easily earn approx.GBP 5500/Month. BUT… MY BIG QUESTION IS…HOW CAN I FIND A RESPONSIBLE PERSON ? I can NOT place ads even in sites like Craigs,Gumtree etc., Bcoz, they don’t accept ads from Srilanka,as srilanka is NOT listed on them. Any help much appreciated. my mail ID is: nicetutoring(AT)yahoo(DOT)com

Jere answers:

I’ll do it for you!
Or you should place a simple advert for someone with the job centre here – www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk
They will find you a worker who will do it.

Thomas asks…

For a service based travel business, must I collect sales tax on the value of the product or just service?

I’m developing a business plan where my online service will facilitate the group purchase of a product and charge a service fee to each customer. The product will be distributed primarily in NY, NH, VT and ME while my business location is outside of the United States. My question involves sales tax. Is my assumption correct that I would only collect/pay sales tax on the service fee and not the full value of the product? Sales tax would be paid on the product to the primary vendor at the time of purchase. For example, the product cost including sales tax is $90 and the service fee is $10. The customer would pay $100 and my business would be responsible for paying state sales tax on $10 only. Is this correct? Aside from personal income taxes, the business will be a sole proprietorship, are there any other taxes that I should be concerned with? Thanks.

Jere answers:

You will need to check the regulations of each state you want to sell in. In most states, services are NOT taxable, only tangible goods are. If you are not actually selling the goods yourself, you should not have to collect/pay sales tax. Each state probably has a website and a section on doing business with that state, so that would be a good place to start.

You might also want to contact a CPA or accountant in one of those states to find out more specific information. It may be different f you are not a US citizen.

The Importance of SEO in Internet Marketing

If you are already running an Internet marketing campaign or are about to embark on an Internet marketing campaign, one concept you cannot afford to skimp on is search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is one of the most popular buzz words in Internet marketing but unfortunately most Internet marketers simply do not know enough about SEO to make this strategy work for them. Even those who are knowledgeable about SEO may have difficulty executing their SEO strategies to produce the desired affect.

Advertising is a very important part of running any type of business. You need to advertise to reach new customers and market your products or services. Whether you run your business online or not you probably already realize how important it is to advertise but if you are running your business online you should understand there is a great deal of free advertising available in the form of optimal search engine rankings.

Well known search engines such as Google rank websites according to complex algorithms which are designed to determine which websites are most relevant for particular search terms. Therefore taking the time and effort to optimize your website for relevant search terms may result in you being rewarded with high search engine rankings for these terms. This is important because most Internet users rely heavily on these rankings. It is not uncommon for Internet users to only review the first few results when they search for a particular term. This means if your website ranks high enough to appear on the first page of the search results you will likely enjoy increased website traffic. However, if your website doesnt make it to the first page or even the second page, it is unlikely you will receive a great deal of website traffic from visitors who use search engines.

Now that you understand why search engine rankings are so important you might wonder how to achieve these rankings. The easiest way to optimize your website is to hire a SEO specialist to do the work for you. The world of SEO is complex and continually evolving making it difficult for most business owners who do not specialize in SEO to keep up with the changes in the industry. Therefore, business owners who attempt to optimize their website by themselves may have difficulty keeping up with competitors who hire a SEO consultant to optimize their website.

The algorithms used by search engines can be rather complex and include a number of different factors. Some of the common factors in the equation include keyword density, META tags, titles, inbound links, website traffic and content.

Keyword density refers to the number of times a particular keyword is used in the content of your website. The theory behind this concept is that website which use a keyword often are likely extremely relevant to that keyword, however, overuse of that keyword may result in penalties to the website if the search engine deemed the keywords are not being used appropriately.

META tags are pieces of HTML code which some search engines use in evaluating the content of a website. Placing keywords in these tags can be beneficial in some search engines. However, care should be taken to avoid placing irrelevant keywords in these tags as this may result in your website being penalized.

Inbound links are also used by some search engines to rank websites. Inbound links refer to links on other websites which point to your website. In evaluating the worth of these inbound links, some search engines consider the rank of the website providing the link to your website. This means you should ensure the website providing inbound links to your website are high ranking websites to receive the most benefit from these links.

Finally, the content on your website can do a great deal to bolster your search engine rankings. Most SEO firms retain a staff of writers who are skilled at providing quality content which is also optimized for relevant keywords. If you hire a SEO firm who does not providing copywriting services you should invest in hiring a professional writer yourself. This will help to ensure the copy on your website is not only valuable to your visitors but also considered valuable to search engines.

Your Questions About Email Marketing

Carol asks…

Email marketing.?

I am trying to start email marketing. I have my own website that sales some products. Now what I is my idea that I want to send email to my register customer about latest products.

But I need to know that should I have to take any license (spam fees) so my email will not get spam by hotmail, gmail or yahoo or any other mail provider.

Jere answers:

Building opt in list and affiliate marketing – effective internet marketing plan

Building opt in list and affiliate marketing have become synonymous to online success as an effective internet marketing strategy. For many online sites, building opt in list and affiliate marketing have proven quite profitable. Primarily because most online users are not exposed to any unscrupulous internet marketing strategies prevalent on the World Wide Web.

As an effective Internet marketing strategy, users are given the option to signup for information or service provided by a particular site. Building opt in list and affiliate marketing reduces the risk of spamming since the recipient voluntarily chooses to receive emails from a website. Plus, building opt in list and affiliate marketing provides a direct link to the subscriber that will help shape a formidable customer relationship that will keep on going.

The basics of building opt in list and affiliate marketing

Different websites have different ways of building opt in list and affiliate marketing. However there are some tried and tested formulas to help new affiliate marketers develop their own opt in listing for their site. The first and most important factor to determine in building opt in list and affiliate marketing is to establish the site’s target market.

Once the target market is established, building opt in list and affiliate marketing can be customized to meet their demands. This can be done using a variety of methods to convince site visitors to sign up for the site’s newsletter or e-zine. After signing up, the customer will begin to receive a variety of newsletters, e-zines and brochures that the customer had registered for.

Strategies for building opt in list and affiliate marketing

There are a number of strategies that affiliate marketers can use for building opt in list and affiliate marketing. One way of building opt in list and affiliate marketing is by purchasing or leasing a subscribers list from third-parties. This is usually done by affiliate marketers in order to get easy access to many people who have consented to receiving e-mails, newsletters and e-zines on various topics.

Although it is the fastest approach to building opt in list and affiliate marketing, this method does not provide a focused consumer group for building opt in list and affiliate marketing. In addition, it may cost an affiliate marketer more than what they expect to receive in sales. Fortunately, there are other ways for affiliate marketers to get the most out of building opt in list and affiliate marketing.

Enlisting for co-registration services is great for building opt in list and affiliate marketing. This service usually costs about 10 cents to 30 cents per subscriber but it easily translates into an average of three hundred subscribers daily to an affiliate marketer’s opt in list.

Writing articles is also an effective strategy for building opt in list and affiliate marketing. The articles can be published in various newsletters with specific links to the affiliate marketer’s site. This serves as a great introduction to potential subscribers that would encourage them to sign up for an opt in list.

Joint ventures are also a valuable strategy in building opt in list and affiliate marketing. Joint ventures are a hundred percent free and at the same time can add up to hundreds of subscribers to an opt in list daily.

Incentives for building opt in list and affiliate marketing

Building opt in list and affiliate marketing can also be encouraged by offering incentives to potential subscribers. This subtle form of encouragement for building opt in list and affiliate marketing often helps stir the interest of potential subscribers to sign up for the opt in list. There are a number of methods used in affiliate marketing to egg on potential subscribers to sign up.

Offering products and services in exchange for signing up is commonly practiced by many affiliate websites. Products may include special e-books or software that would be of interest to the subscriber. Another way to get subscribers to sign up is to offer them special services that are only available for site members.

Regardless of the incentive used for building opt in list and affiliate marketing, the most important factor to consider is how to keep the interest of the subscriber. Remember, it is just as easy for a subscriber to opt out of the list as it was to opt in to the list.

You can get opt-in services at aweber or getresponse, they will do everything for you and no spam complaints!

Susan asks…

Email Marketing?

For my company I will be using a number of marketing tools ranging from email to mailing. For the emails I will need to create an email but how do i send mass emails out, if I want to do it myself. Where can I get email addresses of many people like ranging from 20000 and more.

Jere answers:

I think you should not only get a list of random individuals from a hotel chain, but try to target various magazines that deal with phone systems, for example, and therefore you are advertising to a market that is ready for your service. You just need to be ready for their business. Good Luck ArmenH

Chris asks…

How to start an email marketing business?

I am planning to do email marketing as a service to our existing clients. We service mortgage and real estate agents and we do mailings to consumers on behalf of LO and agents. What I would like to do is to hide our domain name and show consumer as the email came from their sales agent/Loan Officer. Anyone has any idea how to do this by setting up our own server. I am not planning to use 3rd party email marketing services. Consultant work is appreciated if you provide your contact information.

Jere answers:

Set your server domain as your company name, then use subdomains for your clients eg:

loansexpress.mycompany.com, mortgagematters.mycompany.com

You can set your ‘from’ line to whatever you wish to support this so it will appear to the reader:

From: Loans Express (loansexpress.mycompany.com)

This is the most flexible way, otherwise you will need a server per client.

Need any more help, get in touch:

jay@jaymail.net

Cheers,
Jay

James asks…

What are the best email marketing websites to build email list?

Looking to build an opt in email list for my business and I’ve been looking at different sites offering to build an email list. Which is the best between Aweber,GetResponse or Mailchimp or any other email marketing company? Looking to expand my business and I need advice on which company to go with!

Jere answers:

You can build email lists for free, if you like contact me and ill coach you on how to do this properly but roughly what you should be doing is going on sites like facebook and seeing the problems people are having and offer them a free way out of that problem by providing a program in exchange for their email address

One that ive used is an auto friend and gift acceptor script that saves people a lot of time

Another is the zynga poker bot, this plays poker for people and wins them chips while they sleep and is very popular

Use a youtube video with a link in the description to your opt in list

Once someone has signed up send them the program or link to the program

You can rake in literally thousands of active emails this way legally

Don’t pay someone to do it for you its too easy to do

Your Questions About Real Biz Media

Sharon asks…

how much to charge for social media?

I recently help a friend with his facebook and tweeter as well posting some slide shows, this is not my real biz, but he like what I did and hes want me to be part of his marketing and web for his clothing line, getting a % on each item sold online and referrals, the questions is righr now is just beagn son % is not there but, I quoted for the work done to be $300/month till sales start, how much do I need to carge it cause, actually my wife is doing the work and it take several hours/week

Jere answers:

I consider $40/hrs with no benefits reasonable, but you need to adjust for area cost of living and the fact you getting a % of sales in addition to salary. It also depends on how much your wife enjoys doing it and if it takes away from thing she wants to do.

James asks…

was TUPAC as “REAL” AS EVERYONE THINKS?

i kinda lost that realness factor when he told MEDIA that BIGGIE and PUFF had him setup or new about the setup?if that’s so….then its no longer about music or sells or who is the best ITS A REAL LIFE HANDLE THAT BIZ situation.instead he makes an assumption like that 2 of all people the PRESS!!i love the dudes music got 3 of his albums.but was PAC as real as his fans claim?i don’t think so.he did go to acting school and didn’t start gettin in trouble with the law until he became famous.a rebel no doubt, but the REALEST rebel?i disagree.what about you?

Jere answers:

I can see whre your coming from but all rappers made mistakes including him so how would u define “real”? I think hes is real because he spoke his minde despite wat critics thought of him but yea i sorta agree wit u but no human is perfect

Carol asks…

What happened to real hip hop?

“Back in the days we all used to {“Listen!”}
Now sh!t is so wack, nobody {“Listen!”}
To that real hip-hop, yo {“Listen!”}” – Talib Kweli

I’m only in high school but I know my rap history. I hear my classmates singin to lil wayne or some other cheesy gangster. The lyrics are pathetic and meaningless. All the stuff out now is all uptight, what happened to just chillin and havin fun. Is it the media or something?

Only three rappers out now are any good: Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Eminem. But they were all “invented” by Dr.Dre.

If there is any good rap out there can you recommend some artists, someone like (If there is any): A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock and Cl Smooth, Black Sheep, EPMD, Run-DMC, or Biz Markie.

What happened?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!
Del tha Funkee Homosapien is the bomb. I forgot to mention him.

*Mistabobdobolina*
and i like digable planets but there more like jazz. i don’t know.

Jere answers:

It was buried in the underground. MC’s such as One Be Lo, MF Doom, Apathy, Celph Titled, Vinnie Paz, Elzhi, Slug, Brother Ali, Brotha Lynch Hung, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Kool Keith, Virtuoso, Percee P, Canibus, and those kind of peoples still keep it real.

I’m more of a fan of golden age hip-hop (the kind you mentioned, such as A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Black Sheep, EPMD, Run-D.M.C., Biz Markie) then underground (MF Doom, El-P, R.A. The Rugged Man), so I can recommend you alot of golden age hip-hop if you want.

Celebrities change their signatures alllllll the time. Especially because she would probably be signing these one after the other after the other so her writing would get messy and change around a lot! No need to analyse, so exciting to get autographed mail! Be thankful 🙂

Your Questions About Direct Marketing

Lisa asks…

direct marketing?

marketing is a vast field wherein we have direct marketing, indirect marketing (etc).i wish to gain some knowledge on direct marketing.

Jere answers:

Direct marketing means personalized not broadcast. Examples could be mail, flyers, email, etc. They are intended to communicate one on one.

Direct marketing works best when you know your target audience is, then have a great list with that target on it, then a great offer. Creative is important – but if you don’t have the first 3, you are throwing money away.

George asks…

Direct Marketing?

Do u think a company can push its sales more by direct marketing method. Do you think it is more effective way of marketing over other methods.

Jere answers:

Different types of marketing are appropriate at different stages of the buying process. A company should design their marketing mix accordingly. There are situations where direct marketing isn’t appropriate or effective but many companies rely on direct marketing to generate qualified sales leads. In many cases, a company can generate $20-$50 in directly measurable sales for every $1 spent on direct marketing. With that kind of ROI, direct marketing is an integral part of many marketing plans.

Paul asks…

What are some great sites to sell direct marketing consumer lists to businesses quickly?

I have some direct marketing lists that I want to sell. They are generalized, regional specific lists (mostly customers based in Florida) and I want to try to sell them to people looking to expand their businesses, either those located in Florida or trying to build a base in Florida.

I am selling them cheaper than the going rate because I am just getting started. And while I know a lot of people sell to bigger direct marketing companies, I don’t really want to go that route right now.

Any suggestions? High traffic/high response sites preferred.

Jere answers:

Try Craigslist

Carol asks…

How to create Direct Marketing Database with low budget, during economical crisis?

Small businesses, independent businessman or even you are a big company but with a low marketing budget, how to you create direct marketing database to earn new clients?

Jere answers:

Scour the phone book and websites. No cost except your time

Richard asks…

What are some good books/resources to learn direct response marketing?

I am a 3rd year business student and have realized that I need to learn more about marketing than just the average college degree will give me. How can I learn direct marketing without having to take slow, menial college courses on it?

Jere answers:

Here are some great books for you,

Unlimited Selling Power by Donald Moine
Anything by Dan Kennedy

Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss

Best of luck to you

Your Questions About How To Do Amway Business Online

Sandra asks…

How to start an online business?

I am looking for ways to make extra money. I’ve tried writing online, not my thing. Does anyone have any good experiences with online business‘s? Whats a good safe one to start up with? I’m looking at Amway global, is that any good?

Jere answers:

One way of earning online money is to create a Toolbar with Radio and Games http://www.createtoolbar.org/

Michael asks…

How do I sell my business?

I have an online business that does between $210,000 – 280,000 per year.

We spend less than $10,000 per year to advertise to get our business and make about 30-35% on the above mentioned figures.
(we recommend that the new owners spend more in advertising to get even better profits!!!)

The great thing about the business is that all the product is brokered out and that it operates almost totally automatic. This business also can be ran from anywhere. We have almost no liabilities.

Does anyone know the proper way to valuate this business?

I want $250,000 – $300,000 for the business

Thanks in advance

FYI – this is a real functioning business – not a pyramid or Amway type of business – we sell product to other businesses.

Jere answers:

The best way to sell would be to contact a buisness broker, that way you can pretty much get what you are asking for.

Laura asks…

Lizzie asks…

Amway biz stressing me out and causing me a nervous wreck; can’t quit cause I’ll let everyone down. Help!?

I’m recent college grad, and about two months ago, I took on a business opportunity with Amway Global, which is a system that teaches people how to change their buying habits, that is buying products online and get revenue sharing. The objective of the business is to refer people and get them to sign up under you as an independent business owner (IBO). Once you become an IBO you get your own website and when you buy off this website you get paid a small percentage (not much money to begin with), known as revenue sharing. The more IBO’s you sign up, the more money you earn, since it’s a duplicatable process. It’s no scam, it’s a legit, a get rich slow project rather than get rich quick. In order to get people, you have to make a phone list of everyone you know like family members, friends, and do some major networking, which doesn’t come all that naturally to me. So it works by calling people you know who may be looking to make some extra income, and if they’re interested then you have to meet up with them in 48 hours to do a quality invite (QI), and this system has the whole QI philosophy. Then if they like the plan, you have to bring them to an open meeting which is at 8:00pm in a hotel on a week night which can last for 3 hours, and then do a follow up with this interested person, and then bingo, you have a sponsor, and IBO or “leg”, aka, sponsor, under you. Within my first month or so, I’m lucky to get my first sponsor who will sign up later on this week. This business is stressful to me because you have to invest money and just about everyone else I know to ask says they’re not sure about the opportunity and they tighten their money. You not only have to get IBO’s but you also have to get people you know well as customers to buy your products. I have three customers signed up under me who cannot afford to buy my products because of the economy, more and more people seem to be losing their jobs or getting their work hours cut back. I worry alot about getting customers and new IBOs while trying to find a better paying job while our country relives the Great Depression. I need to save for student loans. With the job I have now, there’s no way I can afford to keep investing more into Amway. My mom sees that this gig is high stress pressure on me and wants me to quit, but I can’t quit because I’ll let my business mentors down and set a bad example for my new IBO sponsor. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings here or give false hope. My passion is to run my own graphic design company rather than have to sell products. Sure, with Amway you can get rich selling products and the business plan, but what about with me getting rich selling my talents? My friend and I are starting our own design company, freelancing, building a website, and it’s like my mentors from Amway are taking me away from my passion, pressuring me to “succeed” in Amway, BUT I CAN’T LET ANYONE DOWN HERE. I don’t know what to do. My mentor is very gruff and high strung, so what would be the best way to approach him without pissing him off?

I apologize for this post being very long! I have a lot on my mind.
Hey, Gorbs, I clicked on your link and checked it, and it’s a scam, sorry to say. Having to end up paying a fee at the end was a huge red flag. For future reference to anyone, please don’t direct to something that’s a scam, I’m not an idiot. Thanks.
Oh yeah, when you tell me about this opportunity saying “YOU DO NOT OWE THOSE PEOPLE ANYTHING”, well there was a hidden fee, I’d rather not be cheated like that. I don’t mean to point fingers at anyone here, sorry.

Jere answers:

As an Amway business owner and the owner of a number of other businesses, that it is unlikely that you’ll succeed at it if you’re over-stressed. What’s more, due to it’s very nature, if you don’t succeed at it, then your “mentor” gets no benefit either.

The key thing to remember is that it is your business, not your uplines or downlines or anyone else. If you feel you need a break, then take a break! The great thing about Amway is that it’s not going away. You can maintain your membership, buy whatever products you want, or not, for as long as you want. I’ve just taken an 8 yr break with my Amway business due to stress from another business!

Now, if the problem is primarily financial stress, perhaps from buying BSM (business support materials such as books/Cds/seminars) then sit down with your upline, be 100% honest and tell him what you’re saying here – you simply can’t afford it right now. Apart from seminar tickets obviously, there’s no reason he can’t lend you materials free of charge. If he won’t, then keep going upline until you find someone who is sympathetic to your situation and will help you.

Personally I found Amway-related training materials great input for me while I was building other businesses, you may find the same. Remember though, it’s your life and your business, you make the decisions. Sometimes that requires hurting others.

So, in summary, Amway’s not something you have to either quit or give 110% to, there’s other possibilities. Talk honestly to your mentor – if you don’t feel you can, then he’s not the right mentor for you. Try speaking to someone upline until you find someone you connect with. If you’d like more advice, feel free to come chat on http://www.amwaytalk.com

Ken asks…

How do you make money through Amway?

OK so I went to this business meeting yesterday about Amway and they told me that it’s not an illegal pyramid scheme and that I’d be able to make passive recurring income (basically money without labour). I’d have to recruit people into my “team”, and the more people i have under me the more I’ll earn. So they said they wouldn’t pester me with their product advertising etc. So how do these guys (at the top), and me actually make money? (i joined yesterday through trusting a friend)

I’ve read about them in online forums, which basically say you’ll earn nothing if you sell nothing. So would I have to buy these products and sell them myself? If my parents have a grocery store can i leave it for them to sell these Amway drinks?

Thanks in advance

I hope this is not a scam, and I’m relying on the 90 day money-back guarantee to save my a**s if no income comes through in the next 89 days.

And how do you sell these things? Sure you have to be a good talker, and seller with many friends or family members? They didn’t mention any of this during the meeting, which i find odd and suspicious… So basically, it isn’t really recurring income if you have to devote so much of your time to making sales and thus earning percentages to get to the next level etc.?

Jere answers:

To qualify for the “passive income”, you’ll likely have to spend many years of working full-time. In my time the promised passive income was in the range of 400-500$ (and a next stage of over 1000$), and I can’t remember anyone who made it that far.

You do need to have a lot of family connections, or many friends. It won’t work very well on strangers. Not that it’s going to work very well on your family, they will usually only do it to support you, which is what Amway is counting on. Still, don’t expect that a lot of people will agree to sign up or buy things. Most will simply start avoiding you at some point.

To make money, you need to both sell products and recruit people, and the people you sign up have to succeed as well. By design, you need to recruit new people on a regular basis to qualify for anything worthwhile. Also keep in mind that by signing up your friends and family, you’re actually causing them to lose time and money, since a lot of people never manage to earn anything from it.

Guys at the top don’t exactly make money like you do. They were in it from the beginning, so everyone else including you is making money for them. They also don’t just sell products or sign up people. A large chunk of their income comes from books and motivational speeches, which you are often encouraged to buy (your superiors might tell you that you need them if you want to succeed). They also usually have other investments, so Amway is only a part of their income, and not a fundamental one.

Your friend means well, but you should do some calculations and make an estimate on how much you’ll actually have to invest, how much time you’re likely to spend, and how many people would actually be interested. In other words – market research. This is business, there’s no room for trusting friends.

Is Internet Marketing Working For You?

Determining whether or not your Internet marketing campaign is working for you is a very important part of the advertising process. This is so important because while there is a great deal of Internet marketing which can be done without a great deal of expense, other types of Internet marketing do have financial costs associated with them. Also, in both cases there is a time and energy burden to orchestrating the Internet marketing. For all of these reasons it is important for business owners to continuously evaluate their marketing techniques and strategies to determine what is working and what is not. This will help the business owner to focus his efforts on marketing strategies which are providing positive results as opposed to those which are either not providing results or are only providing lackluster results. This article will examine a few different marketing strategies as well as how business owners can evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies.

Affiliate marketing is certainly one of the most cost effective Internet marketing strategies available. This marketing strategy involves having other website owners known as affiliates post an advertisement on their websites to direct Internet traffic to your website. This marketing strategy is cost effective because in most cases the affiliate is only paid when he produces a desired result such as enticing an Internet user to click through the advertisement or to purchase a product or service once they click through the ad. While the business owner is only paying for the advertisement when it produces a desired effect, it is still worthwhile to evaluate the effectiveness of these ads to determine whether or not they are working well.

Fortunately affiliate marketing ads have a natural feedback mechanism which makes it easy to evaluate how well the ad is working. This feedback is provided in the form of code imbedded in the advertisement which specifies which affiliate generated the website visitors. This information is provided for the purposes of issuing payment to the affiliate but it can also provide the business owner with useful information on which affiliate ads are the most effective. This information is especially useful when the affiliates are posting different ads. The business owner may conclude the ads posted by the more successful affiliates are more appealing to potential customers and may opt to use this style of ad for all of their affiliates.

Business owners who use Internet marketing strategies such as posting on message boards to promote their business might want to consider asking customers to complete a short survey when making a purchase. This survey can include useful demographic information which is always helpful for marketing as well as information regarding where the customer learned of the products or services you offer. Including the message board web address as one of the responses will give you a good indication of whether or not the message boards are helping to drive customers to your website. You may also have some unofficial feedback in terms of the response to your postings on the message board. If the general consensus is in support of your posts, you may infer you are generating some interest in your business or website through this tactic.

Finally, an Internet marketing strategy can be evaluated by studying website traffic results as well as sales receipts. Anytime you implement a new Internet marketing strategy or technique it is worthwhile to study your website traffic reports and sales receipts carefully to determine whether or not there is a spike in either traffic or sales immediately after the marketing effort. For example, if you send out an e-newsletter to those who have requested additional information about your products or services, you may notice there is an increase in traffic or sales soon afterwards. This is a good indication the e-newsletter was well received and effective. However, if there is not a marked increase in traffic or sales subsequent to the e-newsletter it indicates the marketing effort was not effective.

Your Questions About Internet Business Solutions

Michael asks…

Who can comment on “Yahoo Merchant Solutions” as a choice to help set up an on-line internet business?

I am researching the best business start-up helper for my idea and want to see if anyone has had experience with “Yahoo Merchant Solutions“. If so what is your opinion of it? Did it help you succesfully start your internet business or was it not what you expected? Can you recommend some other internet business start-up package? What about monthly costs and start up costs? Also what about on-going consultive help from them or follow up and up-date help? Thank You

Jere answers:

Yahoo Merchant Solutions is the more expensive of two hosted solutions I recommend to my clients. It has everything you need to start an online business, and there’s more flexibility with how you configure the online store – the online store tool is more sophisticated than the solution below (Office Live).

Yahoo Merchant Solutions: http://bit.ly/18XIYi

The other solution I recommend is Microsoft Office Live Small Business. Office Live is a free service that has an easy to use online web designer tool with templates which allows you to create a website without the need to know how to do HTML/CSS coding. It comes with 500 MB of storage and was designed for small business such as yourself. It is an all-in-one internet toolkit to help give your small business an online presence.

Since it is from a big brand (Microsoft), you can be sure that the right privacy and security policies are in place (unlike many other places on the internet where breach of privacy is quite prevalent). Microsoft is currently offering a free domain name (i.e. Yourdomain.com) for the first year. Of course, if you prefer, you can always use the free provided subdomain name.

To accept payment on your Office Live website, you can either use Paypal (free), which is great because you can accept credit cards, or you can try the Store Manager module (paid add-on) for Office Live. Try it out:

Office Live: http://bit.ly/3nftlb

Paypal: http://bit.ly/eVSCE

Laura asks…

Does anyone know about an internet business called Automated Solutions? Are they legit?

Jere answers:

I think this blog might be helpful to you to find out if this business your looking for is legit or not. It’s aimed for giving people different business opportunities, I didn’t see this one on the blog, but the information prior to that on what to look for I think would be very helpful to finding if Automated Solutions is legitament or not.

What is e-business?.
What are the uses of the latest e-business solutions for HEALTH CARE?.

Jere answers:

Health care, on line swapping of registration documents and national internet databases for doctors speeding up what has always been very bureaucratic is the main advance

George asks…

What is the phenomenal growth of business on the internet.and the use of latest e-business solutions for?

education services,marketing ,media and entertainment

Jere answers:

Well there are about a million “phenomenal growth” opportunities on the web.

Lots of high tech companies, like voice-over-ip reselling.

Selling products is clearly a huge growth area (amazon, buy etc).

Lastly affiliate opportunities are surprisingly profitable and easy to do.
For example check out bigcrumbs:
http://home.bigcrumbs.com/syncpedia

Basically as long as you shop ebay, amazon, buy.com etc from your bigcrumbs account, you get cash back from every purchase.
I buy allot on ebay and get an average of .30 – $1 cash back every time. Not much by itself but it adds up fast.
You can also refer other people and then will get cash back on all of their purchases too!.

Anyways, point being on the above i’ve had good returns on it, and it’s just an affiliate system that anyone can access.

Your Questions About Doing Business Online World

Chris asks…

Do i have to have a registered business to buy from PC World Business online store?

They have some cheap pc monitors. can anyone order from their site?

Jere answers:

You need to have a business account with them. Pop into the business centre at your local store and register your business name and address with them. You then quote this number when you buy through the business centre or, presumably, on-line.

Susan asks…

How do real world businesses rate online college degrees?

I am in the construction field and I am considering getting an online degree in construction management to further my career but I do not want to spend the money or time if companies are not going to value it in close proximity with a conventional college degree. Is there a website that can help me determine how the different online colleges are rated in real world business?

Jere answers:

If you are in construction management, other than engineering, what you know is more important than how you got to know it. If you are taking the classes to beef up your resume, you may be better off going to an established college of university.

Linda asks…

If were to open my own online business in Canada, what do I need to do?

Do I need some kind of permit? The online world‘s rules of this kinda stuff is always a bit blurry. So I’m not sure what laws there are out there when it comes to simply selling items off your own website.

And to order items in bulk, do I need a certificate or anything? Or do I just need to find a willing supplier? Thanks for your time.

Jere answers:

Tax permits, a website and a merchant account/paypal so you can accept credit cards

Betty asks…

How do I start my own worldwide ring tone business online?

I am planning on starting a business, selling ring tones world wide online. I need some advise and if possible steps on how to make this happen. The ring tones I am selling will be composed by my friends and I, so we won’t be selling any copyrighted songs if you get what I mean.

Jere answers:

This is a very saturated market but if you have marketing dollars you can make it work. You will have to educate yourself on social media marketing for this business to succeed.

Using Message Boards for Internet Marketing

Internet marketing is a very wide term which can be used to encompass a variety of marketing techniques which are used online. Banner advertisements, website promotion, search engine optimization, email marketing and affiliate marketing all fall under the umbrella of the term Internet marketing but there is even more to Internet marketing than those concepts. Promoting your website or business on message boards can also be considered to be Internet marketing. In fact this is one of the simplest and least expensive Internet marketing options available. This article will examine how savvy business owners can use Internet message boards wisely. It will also explain how message boards can be misused and rendered ineffective as well.

Message boards are essentially online meeting places. In general most message boards are focused on a particular niche subject and encourage those who share an interest in this particular subject to get together to discuss relevant issues, ask questions, provide advice and even just socialize. Message boards can focus on any subject imaginable they may focus on a particular baseball team or just the sport of baseball in general. Message boards can focus on subjects such as politics, television shows, bands, current events, jobs, hobbies or any subject imaginable. Savvy Internet marketers can take advantage of these message boards to reach a target audience without investing a great deal of money.

Consider a business in which the focus of the business is to assist people in finding jobs which offer telecommute options. The concept of working from home is becoming increasingly popular and there are many websites which focus on this subject. Likewise there are also many message boards devoted to the topic of working from home. Here those with an interest in the subject meet to discuss issues such as finding employment where working from home is an option, working around the schedule of your children, setting up a home office, dealing with friends or family members who dont respect your working hours and paying taxes on freelance assignments. A business owner who actively participates in this message board can take the opportunity to post a link to his website when it is relevant and offers something of value to the conversation. This is worthwhile because the message board features a high concentration of your target audience members.

When using message boards to promote your business, it is important to ensure you are following the rules associated with the message boards. Message boards may have restrictions regarding the posting of links and failure to abide by these restrictions may result in you being banned from the message board. For this reason it is important for anyone who is interested in using message boards for promotion of their business to carefully read the user agreement to ensure they are not violating any of the rules. It is also important to simply use common sense when promoting your business on a message board. Just because the rules do not restrict posting links, does not mean you should spam the board with your link. Take care to only include y our link when it is relevant. This will prevent message board users from assuming your link is just worthless spam.

Finally, when using message boards to promote your business it is important to be courteous to other message board users and to keep all posts professional. This is important because you and your business are much more likely to be taken seriously if you act professionally and responsibly. You should maintain this degree of professionalism even in posts which do not include your business link. This is important because other message board participants will remember you by your user name and will not be likely to take you seriously if you have previously made posts which were offensive, mean spirited or inaccurate. For this reason it is important to act as a representative from your company at all times.

Why Internet Marketing Does Not Work Without SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) should be considered a critical element of any Internet marketing strategy. This is important because there is so much which can be gained from SEO in terms of Internet marketing and advertising. Failure to optimize your website for search engines can result in a considerable loss in terms of free advertising which is essentially gained from ranking well with search engines. This article will provide insight into what SEO is and will explain why Internet marketing requires at least some degree of SEO.

SEO optimization is a strategy in which a website is designed to obtain favorable search engine rankings from popular search engines. This may be achieved in a variety of different ways and optimal SEO strategies combine a variety of different strategies to complete one well orchestrated SEO campaign. There are several elements to consider when attempting to optimize your website for search engines. This may include keyword density, prominence, META tags, titles and inbound links. Keyword density is one of the most common SEO strategies and essentially involves using relevant keywords often in the content of a website to demonstrate the relevance of these keywords to the website. This is important because search engines are likely to reward websites with optimal keyword densities with favorable search engine rankings in an effort to provide Internet users with the most relevant websites for particular search terms.

The prominence of keywords should also be considered. This includes how close the keywords are placed to the beginning of the website. The common mistake with this strategy is to believe the first opportunity to incorporate keywords is in the first line of visible text on the webpage. This is not true because search engines crawl the code of a website as opposed to the visible content on the website. This means there are multiple opportunities to incorporate relevant keywords long before the actual visible content on the website. This might include the code for the title as well as the META tags. Business owners who realize the potential for incorporating keyword into the code gain an advantage over competitors who only incorporate keywords into the content on their website.

Another area of concern which is very important for those who are interested in SEO is inbound links. Inbound links are essentially links which reside on other websites and direct traffic to your website. These links are considered important because many search engines place a value on inbound links because they are essentially an example of one website recommending another website. However, when obtaining inbound links it is important to do so from other websites which rank well with search engines because many search engines consider the rank of the original website when determining the value of the inbound link.

Now that we have briefly explained some of the main concept of SEO, we will illustrate why it is important to optimize your website in the first place. SEO is so important because most Internet users highly value the results of search engines and are likely to only visit to ranking websites when they search for a particular keyword. Internet users trust search engines to serve the most relevant content first and are therefore not likely to visit websites which do not fall on the first or second page of search results. This means websites which rank well essentially are receiving a great deal of free advertising from search engines that place their website in a key position. Website owners who do not invest time into optimizing their websites miss out on a great deal of potential web traffic.

Evaluating the Response to Your Internet Marketing

Starting an Internet marketing campaign is only the first step in the battle. Sure it is a good idea to start an Internet marketing campaign if members of your target audience are likely to use the Internet to research or purchase the products you sell or the services you offer but these marketing efforts may turn out to be a complete waste of time if you are not diligent about evaluating the response to your Internet marketing. This means each time you implement a change to your marketing strategy; you should evaluate the results of the change to determine whether or not it generated a greater profit for you. This is important because it can help you determine what is working and what is not working for you.

Evaluating the response of your Internet marketing can be done in a number of different ways. Customer surveys and embedded HTML code are two of the most popular methods of evaluating the effectiveness of an Internet marketing campaign. Customer surveys can be as simple or as complex as you like depending on the amount of feedback you would like to receive. However, one of the most effective ways to find out how well your different marketing tactics are working is to include a question asking the consumer where they first learned about your products or services. This is important because if you find a great deal of your customers are learning about your products or services through a particular venue, it is a good indication this method of advertising is working quite well for you.

Embedding code into your advertisements for the purpose of receiving feedback is also a popular method of evaluating the response to your Internet marketing strategies. Advertisements can be coded so the business owner receives feedback each time an Internet user clicks through a particular advertisement. This is useful for letting the business owner know which of his advertisements are attracting the most attention. If the business owner is using two different designs for his advertisements he may discover one design is attracting more attention than others and may make the decision to convert all of the advertisements to a more effective style. Similarly a business owner who is running the same advertisement on several different websites may discover he is receiving more traffic from one website than others. He may also discover some websites are not attracting much attention at all. This would give the business owner an indication of which advertisements to cancel and which ones to keep running.

Finally, the response to an Internet marketing campaign can be evaluated by carefully reviewing website traffic statistics after implementing changes to the marketing strategy. This information is useful because an unusual spike in the amount of website traffic immediately after implementing a stage of the marketing campaign can provide positive feedback that the change was well received by potential customers. While this method of evaluating the response to an Internet marketing campaign can be effective it is important to note implementing multiple changes at once will make it difficult to determine which changes were the most effective. Therefore if you plan to use website traffic as feedback for how well your marketing strategy is working it is important to only implement one major change at a time so they can each be evaluated separately.

Participating In Banner Exchanges

Business owners who want to take advantage of Internet marketing strategies such as banner ads but are on a limited budget may find banner exchanges to be quite useful. The ideal use of banner ads would include placing your banner ad on a website which receives a great deal of traffic and attracts an audience who will likely be interested in your products or services. Additionally, this website should not directly compete for your business. This scenario may be difficult to find and even when a business owner is able to find this type of situation, purchasing advertisement space may be expensive especially if it is a highly competitive niche. These business owners may find banner exchanges to be an affordable alternative.

The most appealing factor of banner ad exchanges is the cost effectiveness of these situations. Most banner ad exchange groups are free to participants. Unlike placing a banner ad independently, there is no financial cost for the appearance of the banner ad on another website but the business owner does have an obligation to fulfill. Most banner ad exchanges will find another website to post your advertisement without charging a fee but they will require you to post at least one banner ad, and sometimes more, on your website in exchange for having your banner ad displayed on another website. Many banner ad exchanges will work to attempt to match your banner ad to a relevant website but this is not always possible and your banner ad may wind up on a website which is not relevant to your products or services. This will likely mean that the banner ads will generate very little interest in your products and services. Similarly the advertisements you are asked to post may not complement your website well. You will likely have the opportunity to reject advertisements in particular categories you find to be offensive but will have little control beyond that to moderate the banner ads on your website.

Another very affordable option for placing your banner ads on the Internet may include starting an affiliate marketing campaign. This is an Internet marketing campaign in which website owners, or affiliates, post your banner ad on their website and attempt to promote your products and services for you. The banner ads typically include graphics and text which entice Internet users to click through the ad to your website and also include embedded code which provides you with feedback detailing which affiliates generated the website traffic. This information is necessary because affiliates are typically not paid unless they achieve a desired result such as enticing Internet users to click through the banner ad or make a purchase. The affiliates are typically compensated either on a cost per click basis or a cost per sale basis. Cost per click means the affiliate receives a predetermined amount of money each time a user clicks on the ad. Cost per sale means the affiliate receives either a flat fee or a percentage of the sale for each sale generated by the affiliate. Affiliates may also be paid on a cost per lead basis which means they are compensated when a user performs a specific action such as registering with a website or filling out a survey. Most people favor affiliate programs because it is a cost effective way to place your banner ads online and because they only have to pay affiliates who are successful.
