Your Questions About Internet Marketing Association

Sandy asks…
I need to decide on an Internet marketing association to join. I work for a B-B. Any suggestions.?
I am a member of the American marketing Association, and although they have an Internet marketing division, they do not offer a lot in this concentrated area….Thanks

Jere answers:
I don’t know if this is the area you’re asking about but it does offer worldwide marketing of websites which may be of use to you in the future for say your individual members websites.
It’s rarely an instant return on the Internet. You need your website coming up relevant to what people “search for” on the Internet. It takes time to get placement in the right places within the Internet and if you’re listed in the right category of searches you stand a better chance of returns. The following is one of the better ways.
For a small charge you can have a “Permanent” website advertisement placed in an index such as this in a choice of around 750 categories to target your business trade.
This will raise your website profile and increase its chances of extra sales because this site is indexed by the search engines placing your site within public searches.
The advantage of a site like this is that you don’t have to update your listing again.
For a permanent ongoing promotion:
http://www.search-the-world (Dot) com/form/listing
Place a dot in the above!

Maria asks…
How do you feel about “marketing”?
How do you understand the term?
Does it bring negative or positive associations?
What do you think it involves?
I am asking not about what the books or the internet says but YOUR opinion and feeling on the subject without any resarch. Just brainstorm some answers 🙂

Jere answers:
Many think it is negative because it makes them think of TV commercials and pushy salesman.
I love marketing because I understand what it is. Marketing is the way you live.
If you want a girlfriend/boyfriend, you find ways to advertise that you are available.
If you want your parents/partner to buy something for you, you have to sell them on the idea.
I know that you’re only brainstorming opinions, but if you are interested in marketing, I could give you the names of some of the best material that you could study.

Paul asks…
How do I advertise my business with yahoo?
I provide a permission based broadcast email marketing program. It is web based so it can be used from any computer with internet access. We don’t do spam. It’s great for building prospects and customers for on-line or “brick and mortar” retailers, restaurants, association managers, and schools.

Jere answers:
To advertise your business with yahoo, just put a link here to your web site. The search engines would pick up the link and crawl your web site

Your Questions About Email Marketing Reviews

Linda asks…
What is Email Marketing? Does any one have any good review?
I need to know a little bit bore about Email Marketing.
Thanks

Jere answers:
Email marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fund-raising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing.

I’m new to online marketing and don’t know where to start.
I’ve gotten an email about a system called “Gsniper” is there anyone with an honest review that would like to share?

Jere answers:
I too am new to online marketing and I have purchased Gsniper.
I’ve got to say, it does work, I made a clickbank account for for what George Brown refers to as my “Sniper Sites” and already after a week and a half i’m up 200 dollars in profit. Now I know that doesn’t seem like much, but i’m enthusiastic because I have just scratched the surface of this system!
I wrote a review the day I found out about it. That will be in the source below.
But, all I have to say is, “Go for it” you have nothing to lose, if for some reason it doesn’t work out, you can ask for a refund.
Hope it works out for ya’

Using a Website to Market Your Business
There are many different ways to advertise your business on the Internet. Placing banner ads, orchestrating an email marketing campaign and tactfully mentioning your business on industry related forums and message boards are just a few of the popular options for Internet marketing. Another Internet marketing strategy involves creating and advertising a website to promote your business. You can use your website in a number of ways. Some of these ways include providing more information about your business and the products or services you offer, letting potential customers know how to reach you and even selling your products and services via the website. This article will highlight the advantages of using a website to market your business and will outline some of the ways the website can be useful.
One great advantage to using a website to market your business on the Internet is that you can place descriptions and photos of the products or services your business offers. This is important because many consumers use the Internet when researching products and services. Having an online presence gives your business an advantage over the competition because consumers are much more likely to select your products or services over the products and services offered by your competitors who do not advertise online.
Another advantage to marketing your business on a website is you can use the website to not only market but also sell your products directly. Again this can give you an edge over the direct competition. Consumers who use the Internet to research products and services are often very anxious to make their purchases and they would be more inclined to select a retailer or service providers who offer the opportunity to purchase products or services online over a retailer or service provider who only allows for purchase in a store or via phone.
Still another advantage to using a website to market your business is the ability to reach a large, worldwide audience. The Internet essentially knows no boundaries and advertising on a website means the business owner can reach competitors around the world instead of being limited to their general location. Advertising via other medium such as television, radio and the print media is somewhat limited and may only reach potential customers in a relatively small geographic area.
Another advantage to using a website to market your business is the Internet is available 24 hours a day around the world. This essentially offers you a storefront which is open 24 hours a day. While your competitors may be limited to their regular business hours, your website will enable you to reach your customers at any hour of the day. This is especially important for reaching potential customers in other time zones and for reach customers in your own area who are simply too busy to shop for products or services like the ones you offer during regular business hours. Many potential customers work long hours and appreciate the ability to research and shop online after hours.
One final advantage to using a website to market your business is you can actually generate a profit from your website in other ways than through sales to customers. You can also use your website to generate income by selling advertising space to other business owners who are marketing their own products and services on the Internet. However, care should be taken when advertising on your website. First of all you should not sell advertising space to direct competitors. This is important because this may cause you to lose potential business if potential customers opt to purchase product or services from competitors who advertise on your website. An ideal advertiser is one who offers products and services which do not directly compete with your own products or services but would be of interest to your potential customers. You should also take care not to place too many advertisements on your website. This is important because too many advertisements may detract from your business and may cause you to lose potential customers.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Online

Donald asks…
What should I do in order to begin a wholesale refrigeration business online?
I am a bookkeeper for a refrigeration contracting business. The owner now wants to begin selling refrigeration parts and equipment on his own website online. He seems to think know how to do all this, but I don’t. I realize there is a lot involved in creating this sort of website and actually conducting business on a daily basis. What should I do? Is there anyone that can conduct some type of service to create this type of website for him? If that’s the case, what do I have to do?

Jere answers:
You will have to create a virtual store front. Magneto, Virtue Mart are a few popular software programs used to create a storefront. You will also need a paypal API and integration for a payment system as well as a Shipping API from UPS, FEDex, or your preferred shipper.
Depending how many items you will be having it can take some time to set up.
My online store using Magento and 5000 items took 2 months to setup. Once everything is in place minor changes are easy to do. Depending on how many items you have, i may be interested in taking it on depending on the time line you need it done by.

Thomas asks…
How do I determine market demand for an online business?
I want to start a home-based business online. What are some of the ways I can find out if there is enough demand for my business?

Jere answers:
This is a great question and I’m glad you’re asking this question before starting your business.
There are lots of different ways to test market demand. You can even start offline by interviewing people to better understand the problem and the alternative solutions out there. Learn whether people would want to use what you’re offering over what already exists. There are also online methods of vetting a market. You can check keyword search volume, explore forums and communities, etc. Then you can set up a simple landing page to see if people come to your website and are interested. Tons of different tactics are available and to get the best picture of your online business, you should try all of them. All the methods are described in a great online ebook called LaunchBit Startup Guide.

Steven asks…
How do you go about starting an online business?
I am interested in starting a business online but not sure where to start. Can you please giv me some insight. Thanks

Jere answers:
Imagine building a website that you have designed through a program available online. This program takes you step by step and allows you to build any website that you can dream of, even several if you wish. Next, imagine this program helping you to get ranked high on the search engines, saving you money. You can get targeted traffic to your website for free. My wife and I are using this amazing program to promote our business. I would love to share more info about it. Email me at robertbreitling@yahoo.com or see more info through my Yahoo Answers Profile page. I hope this helps.
BEST WISHES!

Sharon asks…
How do I get a free business to make money online without paying for it?
I never did business online before and I don’t feel comfortable paying upfront for it I like to make money but I don’t trust them because I know some of them are scams I want to try it first and if it work i pay for it also I like a easy business to do online to make money that easy to do I like to make thousands of dollars a month or weeks.

Jere answers:
I once had an idea to make money online for free but going to websites that say “in less then x amount of days, you can get x amount of dollars! This regular guy did it, you can too!”. Believe me, from every website that I tried, they never worked, and in the end, it is not worth the time. To make money online through business, you should begin practicing some sort of proffession or skill that others dont have, and use that to your advantage. Here are a few examples:
1) You could always become a freelance programmer. What that basically means is that by learning a programming language, such as C++, Java, or HTML, you can get paid the big bucks depending on how good you are at programming. There are multiple sites you can find online for freelance programming, and all you basically do is make a bid for some rich guy who needs a program to be made for something. He takes whoever he likes, sets a deadline, and then once you finish the project, you get cash. Downfall, learning a programming language like that takes a lot of time, practice, and ALOT of time on the computer.
2) Another alternative is to make a website and sell music, artwork, pics, whatever people are interested. Make sure you get a program that can help you make a website easy without you needing to know how to program a website. There are free programs out there that can do that, and there are free ways to make a temporary website that you can make a few bucks from before you switch to a full, professional website. Of course, you need to find something that a lot of people will like. Choose something that interests you, become dedicated to it, posts links to your website on youtube, myspace, facebook, and that alone can send you well off into a good business online.
3) If you make a website, make sure you have google adsense. That basically means that you put up google advertisements on your site, and anyone who clicks on that (besides you) will make google pay you. For more money, more clicks, for more clicks, more people need to go to your website. Its a simple, but hard chain to get going. That will of course lead to some money. Hope this helps!

John asks…
I want to start a business online, how do I get a website created?
Hi there
I want to start a business online, and would like a nice, proffesional made webiste to work with.
Does anyone know of any specific companies/webistes that I can go to and get one created by someone?
Oh, and it does have to be proffesional, but not THAT expensive, kind of a tight budget.
Thanks alot!

Jere answers:
The easiest way for a novice to build a web site is to start with a web template. Web Templates can be customized and you can use the layout but swap the graphics etc…. This will get you comfortable with basic HTML design and an HTML editor (like Dreamweaver).
Here are some resources for free or inexpensive templates that are easy to edit and manage.
Webmaster Templates – http://www.webmaster-templates.net
Free Web Templates – http://www.freewebtemplates.com/
Web Design Elements – http://www.webdesign-elements.com
Free Website Templates – http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/
Free Layouts – http://www.freelayouts.com/
Free Templates Online – http://www.freetemplatesonline.com
HTML website templates can significantly ease the burden of designing and creating websites by providing webmasters with a ready-made web layout, structure, basic graphics, and color scheme.
The templates can generally be edited and customized with any HTML editor. The biggest advantage for webmasters using ready-made templates is the amount of time that can be saved.

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Definition

Jenny asks…
What is the definition of direct marketing?

Jere answers:
Hi there,
Direct marketing is when companies approach and/or contact themselves the final consumer, informing him for the company’s products and/or services. Usually companies are doing these mostly with e-mails, and sms messages.

Susan asks…
What is direct marketing?
Can you tell me of all the variations which are covered by the definition Direct Marketing

Jere answers:
Spam & ‘cold-calling’, although Wikipedia says (oh read it yourself ..)

Paul asks…
help me with direct marketing… all about direct marketing?
i’m doing my paper about direct marketing. i want to know from definition and all about direct marketing. if you are expert in direct marketing or you know about direct marketing, please… i need your help. because i must present my paper..
anything you know about direct marketing..
thank you so much…
your answers helping me so much…
if you are indonesian, you can answer my question in indonesian..
thanks a lot guys.. ^_^

Jere answers:
Direct Marketing is defined as All activities which make it possible to offer goods or services or to transmit other messages to a segment of the population by post, telephone, e-mail or other direct means
The Institute of Direct Marketing has some useful resources http://www.theidm.com/index.cfm?fuseAction=contentDisplay.&chn=3&tpc=204

Steven asks…
Are all direct sales done in MLM?
It seems these two terms are going hand in hand to become synonymous, but the direct definitions are the opposition.
MLM, network, or matrix marketing is EVERYTHING but “direct” (especially how the money is split). So my question is, are their direct sales companies that operate on traditional marketing (if so, do we simply call those franchises?)? Or better yet, are online eBay businesses considered “direct“?
I am NOT stupid enough to join any MLM, but I wanted to ask if these two terms are EVER separated. Are there non-MLM direct sales companies?

Jere answers:
Usually, all the major direct selling companies such as Avon, Amway, Mary Kay, and many more, have a multi-level program in place. As an affiliate or independent distributor (as they call it), you could choose between to embrace the business opportunity offered by these companies through their multi-level program and create your own list of referrals by marketing (that’s why it is called MLM) that option and earning a commission for their selling efforts, and to just sell the products or services for the company yourself without promoting the business opportunity to others, or embrace both options at the same time. Yes, online eBay businesses are considered “direct”.
Javier A. Garcia

Sharon asks…
is there a direct correlation between the ECONOMY and the STOCK MARKET?
if so, then will the economy (by definition) be considered in great shape again if the Dow reaches a new high over 14,000 points?

Jere answers:
The stock market is a leading indicator of economic activity because it usually reflects investors judgment of company profits in the near future. However stock prices also depend on interest rates, that is the stock market will fall when interests increase because some investor will the see bond as yielding safer high returns. There are also bubbles in the stock market like in the late 90’s where the prices on stocks lost all connection with reality.

Your Questions About Business Online Backup

Ken asks…
For online backup business – Do US customers have to pay any Tax as the business is a UK business?
I run and own a business who specialise in providing online backup services (Necoria Backup – www.necoria.com)
I am wanting to create a US version of the website for Americans – I have it set a a flat fee at the moment using PayPal and I noticed the ‘Tax’ section of the software I’m using …
My question – Would American’s have to pay a tax for an online service like this?
p.s. I am also looking to make a Euro version (same question applies)
I look forward to your replies!
Thank you

Jere answers:
If you are talking about VAT then US-no, Europe- Yes.

John asks…
How does a small business build a server for online backup for off site clients?
I want to build a server with appropriate software/hardware to make it very simple for clients to backup & retrieve data.
“Big Cheese” said; “Hire a rackmount server in a data center. Your internet connection wont be sufficient for clients to backup/retrieve data.”
I ask why not & tell me more about a data center & what kind of ‘net connection would I need. How do you know my internet connection isn’t sufficient?

Jere answers:
Hi Ed,
This is a very simple task. Let me elaborate.
You can either rent a server from a dedicated server provider or “host” the server in-house in your office. I’ll start with the latter approach:
1) Buy a server from either Dell, HP, or another vendor with the operating system and appropriate licenses
2) Request a static dedicated IP from your Internet provider (you will need to sign up for their business connection)
3) Install server FTP software on the server (or secure FTP for good measure of security)
4) Create an FTP account with login name and password for each client
5) Deliver the credentials and the IP to your clients and ask them to upload the files using a client FTP program.
6) Be knowledgeable enough to maintain and secure the server from intruders. A compromise could lead to serious consequences such as non-public material business information leak.
Keep in mind that having a server in-house means that you have to have contingency plans in place. For example, what if a component or components fail, how long does it take for the vendor to send and replace the part? Does it inconvenience your clients if such disruption happens? What if there’s a power loss or Internet connectivity loss? Does the power company provider a Service Level Agreement (SLA) whereby they promise to bring power back up within certain hours? What about an SLA for the Internet connection?
Which brings me to the former approach. It consists of renting a fully managed dedicated server from a provider that will take care of all the above without you having to worry about anything. The main advantage being that you’re hiring a provider that houses the server in a data center facility with grid power redundancy with diesel generators (in case UPS and power is completely out), Internet connectivity redundancy (multiple data carriers with failover), and also hardware failure replacement (most provider carry spare parts and servers for rapid same-hour replacement).
The advantage is that you’d be worry free and can focus on your business instead of adding overhead, which is unnecessary for such a simple task. Also, your clients will be more confident in your business.
By the way, how much backup disk space do you need? Feel free to get in touch with me should you have any question or comment (joe at unixy.net or email me at my Yahoo account). I’ll be glad to help out.
Best Regards

Joseph asks…
Is there any Online Backup that has insurance against you losing all your stuff if they go out of business?
I have found many hosting companies, like X-Drive, that offer online file backup. what I want is a guarantee, by, say, a major insurance company, that insures that if a company goes out of business or files for bankruptcy, the files would not get lost.
this should be offered, but it seems none of the major file storage sites bother either offering such a guarantee, or fail to mention it in the FAQ or promotional material.
Thanks!

Jere answers:
Nope

Laura asks…
I have a small business of with 10 laptops. I need a really easy online backup solution that’s for businesses?
Have looked into Mozy Pro and Carbonite. Got a little bit of a scare from Carbonite and Mozy’s seems overly complicated. Suggestions?

Jere answers:
Have you looked at Backblaze for Business? $50 / year / laptop, for unlimited backup. It’s dead simple and automatically backs up all data (not applications). Check it out at http://www.onlinebackupsreview.com/go/backblaze-business.php

Daniel asks…
Which online business idea should I do?
Im 13. I want to start an online business over the summer. I want to make six or more figures a year. That might sound crazy since im only 13, but it is my goal. I have money to start the business, and my grandparents might invest. Coding will be done by my cousin who is at RIT for web design and programming, or I could hire a web design firm, or hire someone from Elance. I have a few ideas, but Im not sure which one I should do. Which one is the most profitable?
1. A website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat. Users can also create a profile page and keep track of there favorite music, find new band members in the band member finder, and post info. I would make money by selling ad space, and I could make money by creating a pro membership level if the site becomes big enough. I would either hire a web design firm (although i think it could cost $100,000, in that case, i wont hire a web design firm), a coder from elance for a good price, or have my cousin code it. I love this idea, and it doesnt have that much competition other than purevolume.com.
2. I would sell musical instruments (bass, guitars, drums, dj and lighting, vocals, keyboards) on my website. i would buy them wholesale and sell them for a bigger price. I would then have the wholesaler dropship to the customer. There is a lot of competition, though. Try Sam Ash or Guitar Center or musiciansfriend.com.
3. A job search website. This could be a site where the employers post wanted ads and people can apply for each job. I would charge the employer a comission to post the ad.
4. A online backup website. This is where customers can back up important data such as files, photos, music, etc. to a sever. I would purchase www.remote-backup.com’s virtual hosting set up for $500. it allows you to sell their customizable software to your customers and access the administrative stuff from a central account on their site. So I could have a plan for 5gb of storage and sell it to a customer for $25 a month. thats around $300 a year from only 1 customer. remote-backup only charges me the once for the $500, and charges me $1 for every customer i get and then $.25 for every gb they use. Many people are backing up now, so this could be profitable. Although there is mozy and snapfish and other companies already around.
4. This is a website where people can post and sell and buy websites. Like sitepoint.com although. This could be a good site though since sitepoint does not focus on buying and selling sites although that is one of their services. This could be profitable by either charging a commision and/or selling ad space.
5. This last idea is a little weird. It is a site where one user starts a debate by putting in two sides such as mcdonalds vs burger king. Then other users choose which side they want to be on, and debate. Each comment they make would be on either side mcdonald or burger king depending on what they chose. and they have an argument. This could be useful in many ways. example, if someone wanted to buy something such as a computer, and they were stuck on mac or pc, they could create an argument mac vs pc and have great answers giving reasons why they should buy mac or pc. based on personal preference, the person could decide on mac or pc based on certain comments. This site could also be used for fun reasons to see which of something is better or what not. I would make money from selling ad space. This would be a fun site and i would hire an elance person or my cousin to build the site.
I like a lot of these such as the music sharing site, debate site, backup business, job posting site, but im not sure which one is good.
Could any of these ideas make me six or more figures a year? Which idea is better? Which idea should I do? Which idea is the most profitable?
Thanks.
(even if you dont think any of these are good, which would you choose if you had to?)
Thanks again.

Your Questions About Business Online Services Gov

James asks…
Would I get good results doing taxes through online free services?
I don’t want to have to pay more than I have to, but then again I want to be able to get all the deductions and everything I can. So if I use one of the free file services listed on the irs.gov site (like H&R block), is this suitable for a person with a small business (sole-proprietorship)?

Jere answers:
Free file is not usually available for people with a Schedule C (small business). They hook people in by offering free services but if you read the small print, they usually charge when the return is moderately complicated.
I am a little biased because I am a paid preparer, but I don’t think someone with a small business should be preparing their own tax return. Do it yourself software is great for simple returns and for people who have a basic understanding of tax law but there’s a good chance you may miss something important because you simply didn’t realize you could claim it on your tax return. Worse yet, you may claim something that is not allowed. If the IRS were to audit, you could end up owing more money plust interest and maybe penalties.
For a small business, tax return preparation fees are a deductible expense. It’s really not something you want to scrimp and save on. The few dollars you save on tax return preparation fees could cost you hundreds of dollars on your return. I’ve seen many cases where someone brought a tax return to me that they prepared with off-the-shelf software. Once I’ve reviewed the return, I was able to find additional money for the taxpayer.
I understand people’s desire to save money, but you could end up being penny wise and pound foolish. In fact, I recommend finding a qualified CPA to help you with business financial decisions throughout the year. If you want to save a little money, you may want to look for an enrolled agent. They have to pass an IRS test and usually cost less than a CPA.
In my experience (including several years working for H&R Block), I wouldn’t trust my small business tax return to someone at a storefront tax office (Liberty, Block, or Jackson-Hewitt). There’s too much turnover in the industry. Most of the training programs for new tax preparers spend very little time on small business tax returns.
You need someone with experience. Spend a little time shopping around to find someone qualified in preparing small business returns. You can still get a good deal if you shop carefully. Once you find someone good, keep using them. The advice you get can be worth its weight in gold.
Hope that helps. Good luck.

Jenny asks…
Where are services performed if I’m in Peru and clients are in the U.S.? We interact live, online?for the IRS?
I live in Peru and teach online to people in the U.S. Would my services be considered “foreign source” according to this:
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,,id=102317,00.html ?

Jere answers:
Yes, income from personal services is sourced at the place where the services are performed. Since you are in Peru, the source of the income for US purposes is in Peru. Unless you have some other contact with, or operations in, the United States, you should not be subject to US tax on your income.

Joseph asks…
How much should a Michigan small business (LLC) reserve per paycheck for taxes?
I just started a small business (selling services, no goods) in Michigan with 3 other business partners. We are an online business with no office space, outstanding loans, etc. for anything.
I am wondering what type of money, per paycheck the company receives, we should be reserving for tax purposes so in 2013 we will have everything needed. Can anyone help us out? I can’t seem to find any definitive answers on Michigan.gov‘s website or through Google.
None of us are considered employees – there’s no withholding, etc. Individually, we reserve taxes for our personal tax returns for next year.
What I am looking for is just regarding the company. Are there certain percentages to reserve? Like, reserve 6% of every profit the company makes for taxes and you’re solid. Something like that.

Jere answers:
My best advise for you is to find a payroll service in your area. Payroll is complicated and if you’re late paying taxes at any point, there’s a lot of fines involved. Each paycheck will have different amounts every pay period.
I suggest Corporate Payroll or Paychex.
Contact an accountant in your area, they should be able to help you.

William asks…
help starting a business?
Me and friend are going to start a business, we are going to be partners in an LLP. We are in california. I know we have to fill out the LLP-1, but do we need to fill out the LLP-2 and as for the LLP-1 ( http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/llp/forms… ) My question is about the form itself, we will be working out of one of our houses, so do we put that as our principal office? It is going to be entirely online, and we will ship our products from a UPS store or get home pick up. What is item 5 and 6? On item 7 do we just check the related item and put our services there? What is the future effective day? And why is there only one space to sign? Don’t we both have to sign it? Also, is item 8 necessary (LLP-3)? Thank you very much for you help in advanced, it is appreciated.

Jere answers:
I agree with both. You should talk to SCORE and a lawyer and also California Small Business Development Center
Here is a listing to starting a business in California with many links http://homebizseo.com/50states/California.html

The Fine Line between Internet Marketing and Spam
Savvy business owners who take advantage of Internet marketing realize there is a fine line between marketing and spam and orchestrate their marketing campaigns to gain the maximum amount of exposure without running the risk of being viewed as spam. The definition of spam is open to interpretation but most people agree on the fact that spam is equivalent to junk mail you receive at your residence. In general spam is unsolicited emails which are part of an advertising campaign. The term spam can also apply to message board postings which are posted solely for advertising purposes. This article will examine the differences between effective Internet marketing and spam.
First we will consider the use of message boards for the purpose of Internet marketing. Message boards are essentially online meetings places for Internet users who share a particular interest to exchange idea, ask or answer questions or just socialize. These message boards allow users to register and post messages. Most message boards have asset of guidelines which the users must follow when making posts. These guidelines may vary widely with some being very strict about acceptable content and others not being nearly as strict. It is important to follow these guidelines because failure to do so may result in the moderators deleting your account and other members not paying much attention to your posts.
Message boards are ideal for Internet marketing because they can provide a business owner with access to a specialized target audience. If you are in the business for finding jobs for employees who wish to telecommute, you might join a message board dedicated to working from home to find members who may be interested in your products. Here you may learn a great deal about the concerns of your target audience. You can also take the opportunity to post links to your website when appropriate and in accordance with the message board guidelines. This is considered to be smart Internet marketing. However, if you opt to respond to each and every post with a link to your website even when it is not relevant and do not offer comments of value to other members, they are likely to view your posts as spam. This can be damaging because these members may opt to avoid your website even if they have a need for your services.
E-newsletters and email advertising are one area of Internet marketing which is most likely to be viewed as spam if not done properly. Most Internet users to not appreciate unsolicited emails especially when these emails do not pertain to a subject that interests them. This is often the case when business owners buy email lists and send their advertisements to everyone on the list. This is not effective because you are not likely to reach a large population of your target audience. Additionally, recipients of the email may block your email address so future communications are automatically sent to a spam folder. Some recipients may even report you to their Internet service provider who may investigate the claim that you are a spammer. A better way to approach the concept of email marketing is to only send e-newsletters and advertisements to past customers who have specifically asked to receive such emails and potential customers who have requested additional information.

Your Questions About Internet Business Promoter

Richard asks…
how much do you people know about Internet business promoter and how better can it be used thanks?
i browse the Internet searching for seo tools and i discovered ibp website. please is there any one that has use it .thank you

Jere answers:
I have used the tool previously and from experience I can definitely say the tool is not worth its value.

Mark asks…
Has Anyone Used IBP (Internet Business Promoter)?
It’s a software that says it can get you to page one of Google. There are so many softwares out there that all say the samething or there are companies promising the same thing. Can this really be done with the IBP software? It looks me like it focuses on Meta which Google doesn’t rank sites by anymore. Is the software old technology or does it work?
I read a review (Which are hard to find) here http://2getwebtraffic.com/Blog/ibp-internet–business–promoter-review that seems to say it’s OK?
Please NO self promotion just a good honest answer. Has anyone used it and is it Good?

Jere answers:
Richard J,
I’ve used IBP—and other SEO tools like WebCEO or WebPosition Gold, to name a few—to see what they’re up to.
Stay away from the latest because it’s one of the few that Google says you can get into troubles using it, as follows:
“Don’t use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.”
—Source: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769)
Note: Google talks about “unauthorized programs”, so as far as the editor has a valid licence from Google to be able to embed such requests in its program, there’s no violation of T&S. See what Google says about automated queries:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66357
Regarding IBP from Axandra GmbH.
Like other SEO tools—the majority of them—, the secret relies more on the process they bring to your web practice than in a secret trick or recipe (e.g., cloaking, generating tons of pages, spamming directories).
Indeed, what they bring is the automation of the process that helps you get ideas on search terms; create, optimize, publish, reference, and maintain content pages; generate all kinds of reports on your site and competitors’.
From a webmaster standpoint—particularly for a rookie or non-Web-savvy programmer—IBP brings automation to daily tasks in an efficient, user-friendly manner.
I think a techie would better benefit by learning how to use his/her programming skills to come up with creative ways of promoting a site—nevertheless, using such tools could be a good starting point to understand the process, take a step back, and then fly on your own.
So such tools are mere tools—you cannot rely on them but on the mere YOU to get your pages rank first. Anyways it comes with a “top-10 or money back” guarantee. Price is $249 for the standard edition.
I have no relationship/affiliation whatsoever with IBP or any other tool—I’ve provided below a set of links pro and not so pro IBP and SEO tools.
—Pascal

John asks…
Has anyone tried internet business promoter (ibp)?
I am pretty skeptical about the programm being able to get you a top 10 google rank on any keyword that seems almost imposible. Because if they could really do that they could make millions. Anyways has anyone tried ?

Jere answers:
Stay away from anyone who “guarantees” any rankings. You are doing right thing – being skeptical is what you have to do when you hear someone is assuring you that he can guarantee you any rankings. That is unprofessional in so many ways.

Maria asks…
Where can I read IBP reviews (Internet Business Promoter)?

Jere answers:
This intro of (IBP) .Internet Business Promoter (IBP) combines a variety of website promotion tools into one. It enables you to track your search engine rankings over time, manage your link partners, generate keywords for Google Ad Words, submit your web site to search engines, and create PDF, Web and Word reports for your clients. You can search in the web many results are find.

Mary asks…
How can the Internet be used as a product and a promoter of a business? (Economics)?
In your own words please, explain how the Internet can be considered a product and promoter of a free-enterprise economy. Do you have any examples?

Jere answers:
That’s a tricky question. Internet can never be a product or a promoter of free economy enterprise.

Your Questions About Real Biz Media

Ruth asks…
Is there a real leather version of Wintec webbers out there?
I need a stirrup leather that works like the wintec webbers, but I would like to buy it in real leather in order to protect my saddle. Do you know of anything like this? Below is a link to the wintec webbers:
http://www.valleyvet.biz/ct_detail.html?pgguid=30E073A9-7B6A-11D5-A192-00B0D0204AE5&item=23735&ccd=IFH003&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=free&utm_content=23735
So I have found a version called Bates, EasyFit, and Prestige. Anybody have opinions on those brands?

Jere answers:
Bates Webbers http://www.jefferspet.com/product.asp?pn=KO-BM&crcat=Direct&crsource=GBase&crkw=Bates+Webbers
Bates and Wintec are the same company; Bates is the high end leather goods and wintec is the lower cost easy care part of the company.
I have used the Bates variety; they are very soft and flexible, but they tend to be so soft that they need to be replaced frequently (yearly). I have not heard of EasyFit, but I can say that Prestige makes really lovely leathers and I would not be hesitant to purchase them. I have not used this style of Prestige leathers, but the regular Prestige leathers (web lined, leather covered) are what I use on my saddles and have not had any problems in 7 years of use!
If I were interested in this style of leather, I think I would choose the Prestige brand of them.

Susan asks…
Is the church of Shoah real?
The Creed of the Church of the Shoah
By Michael Hoffman
I believe in one Holocaust®, conceived in Hollywood, born of the New York media: and in Six Million Judaics, who suffered under Adolf Hitler and were gassed, made into lampshades and cremated. In the 21st century they arose again, to haunt the living and the dead. I believe in Elie Wiesel and the geysers of blood, and Arnold Friedman and the color-coded crematory smoke, the holy Shoah biz Church, the communist saints, no forgiveness of German sins, the resurrection of lies, and the shelf-life everlasting of the Auschwitz gas chamber stories. Amen.

Jere answers:
Yes. It’s our nation-state church, in fact.

Your Questions About Doing Business Online China

Richard asks…
i want to trade with a business in china online, how do i check if they are legitamate?
i have spoken to them via instant messenger, the name of the company is hong kong chang hong imports and exports co. on the tradekey.com website. thanks

Jere answers:
U do realize that the US is inching itself out of a recession; we need to keep 100% of our buying
to USA firms!!!

Paul asks…
How do I start an online business that exports from China to the rest of the world?
For some reason I can’t find anything clear cut on how to do this? Do I need to register a business in the U.S., because I am an American citizen. Or are online businesses different? Beyond a domain name what do I really need in order to run a legit export business that operates totally online? No employees, maybe sell in bulk or retail, want both options. I’m not interested in the step by step plan about starting a successful business, only the legal side of creating an online business that sells products either on ebay or directly to customers wholesale and/or retail.

Jere answers:
1. You’ll have to register the business with the government
2. You’ll need to get a DBA tax number (if sole proprietor- it’s usually your social)
3. You’ll need to research state/local tax obligation and it needed, register for a sales tax certificate.
4. Obtain all business licenses needed to run a business in your industry.
Just because a business is only online and you may never see the product you sell (since you’re export from Asia -dropshipping?), does not mean you don’t have to register it with the government and IRS. Although some people will try to sell on eBay as a business and never register the business, it usually catches up with them and trust me, you don’t want the IRS to come for you!

Nancy asks…
If I go to live in China, but earn money from my business in UK, do I have to pay tax twice?
I would live there and just manage my business online and by hiring people back home in UK.
I mean can the mony contiue going to my English bank account and just spend it in China, or will there be some complex tax stuff to set up. (obviously still paying the usual tax in UK)

Jere answers:
If you are not UK rsident then any earnings in China will be taxed there and not in the UK.
However, any business has to be in China, and if you’re hiring people in the UK it could be argued that the business is UK based, and liable to UK taxation.

Mark asks…
I don’t like the job much and I want to start an online business to sell products. What can I do now?
I don’t well at my job, I’m afraid that my boss will fire me. I don’t like the job much and I want to start an online business on ebay. I live in China. Why don’t I quit? Because I need some money to start my business. I am very poor right now. But the salary of the job is low. So what can I do?

Jere answers:
Work on e-bay in your own time so no one knows what you are doing, it is not there concern. Just be careful.

David asks…

Know Your Audience When Marketing Online
Internet marketing is quickly becoming one of the most popular advertising options available. The Internet reaches a worldwide audience and is available 24 hours a day. For this reason more and more potential customers are turning to the Internet for a variety of reasons including researching products and services and making purchases. As more and more consumers turn to the Internet for these reasons, it is important for businesses to establish an online presence. This is so important because failure to do so may result in their competitors gaining an edge over them in competing for sales. While it is important for business to begin Internet marketing campaigns it is also important for these same businesses to realize basic advertising principles still exist and they cannot neglect these principles. Most importantly those who advertise online have to be aware of who their target audience is and how to reach this audience.
As with any marketing campaign, business owners should do some market research before they launch their Internet marketing campaign. Ideally this will involve hiring a research consultant with a great deal of experience in conducting and evaluating this type of market research. The results of this research should determine the basic demographical information for the target audience. The results should also include information on how to reach this target audience. A business that cannot afford to hire a consultant to conduct this market research should still make an effort to obtain this information on their own. This can be done through informal polls of current clients. This information may not be as comprehensive as the information obtained in a more formal study but it can still provide a great deal of insight into the best way to reach the target audience.
Once this information is obtained, it is important to tailor the Internet marketing campaign to appeal to the target audience. There are a number of different variables which can be modified to ensure the right message is reaching the right people in a manner they can understand and in which they can relate. Some of the ways in which your Internet marketing campaign can be tailored in this way include the aesthetics of your website or advertisements, the wording of your copy and the use of more advanced design features such as audio and visual or interactive tools.
The aesthetic appeal of a website can greatly contribute to how the website is viewed by the members of the target audience. A website which is designed to attract the attention of an older generation with more conservative tastes should include muted colors, clean design and conservative graphics. This will help to ensure the target audience enjoys the website. Conversely if you are looking to appeal to a younger audience with more liberal viewpoints you might chose to design the website with bold colors, eye catching graphics and creative design features.
The copy you include on your website should also take your target audience into consideration. Consider the examples of a conservative and a liberal audience listed above to create a better understanding of how the copy on your website can appeal to the target audience. When marketing to a more conservative audience, the copy should be tailored to use formal language and use facts to back up viewpoints. However, when you are marketing to a more liberal audience or a younger audience you can consider using less formal language which is likely to appeal to the target audience. You can also focus more on emotion to express viewpoints.
Finally, when a website is created for the purposes of Internet marketing it is important for the design of the website to appeal to the target audience. You may wish to include audio and video clips on your website but these clips should appeal to the target audience. For example if your website sells skateboards you might consider incorporating audio clips from punk rock bands as opposed to country music bands. There may be some skateboarders who enjoy country music but in general punk rock music more closely represents the skating culture. Keeping these details in mind is very important for Internet marketing.

Your Questions About Email Marketing Best Practices

John asks…
Marketing Experts: How do You Convert Your Direct Mail Recipients to Email?
I run a nonprofit and our main marketing asset is a direct mail list of 50,000 names – but all physical addresses. Our email list pales by comparison – and in fact pales in comparison to most of our competitors. We would LOVE to convert our snailmail list to email, but it’s a challenge. Are there best practices for getting your list off of the very expensive and time consuming direct mailings and onto email? Thanks for any suggestions.

Jere answers:
I suspect you would want to mail out an invitation to a sign up at a web site. Email is somewhat more tightly regulated than postal mail, some measures are required to remain legal and to not get blacklisted by email postmasters.
To conform to the U.S. Can-spam regulations you generally have to ask people to opt-in to your mailing list, for best deliverability rates and for help conforming to regulations one can employ an email list management services like Aweber.com, they actually prefer a “double op-in” in which users first sign up on a web site then verify their registration in an email reply. Aweber provides the email submission form that you install on your site that communicates directly with their site.
Marketers who live off email lists will often setup opt-in capture pages offering some sort of incentive like a small free ebook to get them to sign up.
You could throw in an opt-in form in the easy to type-in home page address of your existing site (rather in some lengthy inner page address they would have to transcribe off a postcard), or for better conversion from a mailed out invitation by having a short easy to type in domain name for a page optimized for maximum conversion.
Aweber is the biggest of the ‘autoresponder’ mail services designed to mail out a pre-programmed email message sequence starting day one as each user opts in, there are others like ConstantContact geared more for email blasts to the entire list at once.
Here’s a comparison of some popular email services:
http://workhomebusiness.org/autoresponder-services-review/

Ruth asks…
Do you know any bulk email service.?
I want to know some good bulk email service. i want to an effective email marketing. What is best practice when choosing an email provider.

Jere answers:
ActiveCampaign starts at just $9/mo and allows for unlimited sending and provide a world-class support. Also, their application is by far the most easiest application I’ve ever used. Another thing too is their abundance of free and professional looking templates. Another great features they have that isn’t found in most email marketing service provider is social media integration http://www.activecampaign.com/socialmedia/ and provide geo location data of your subscribers http://www.activecampaign.com/features/reporting.php
Hope this help.

Mark asks…
What is a good email marketing service that does not require opt-in? list of 38,000?
What is a good email marketing service that does not require opt-in? Its a list of 38,000. Please save the opt in best practices for someone else. I have been assigned to find this information as part of my job.
Thanks in advance
How I got my list is not the point. it is not an opt-in list. Is there a company that has an email marketing service where I can use a list that is not opt in
For instance I cannot send emails using my list through an email marketing company like constantcontact – because they require my list to be opt-in in order to use there service.
I would also like to send one email to the entire list. So 38,000 emails in one send.
Thanks

Jere answers:
Hi there,
Your question is a little vague. If people don’t opt-in, then how do you collect their emails in the first place?
But it seems you already have a list of 38,000. So what are you trying to accomplish now? Those 38,000 people have already given you their emails, so they don’t need to opt-in anymore.
If you are looking for an email autoresponder service that doesn’t require people to opt-in…I’m not sure such a thing can possibly exist. Because how will you get their email address then?

Steven asks…
Best months to email market?
Okay, I am a counselor and I recently opened a private practice. I have been trying to get some more clients and outside of the the traditional give my card to other professionals and a website, I have tried the following: targeted Facebook ad, ad in the appropriate classified section of the paper and they have not been generating too many calls or emails. I can also offer seminars for companies and I want to do some email marketing via Constant Contact or iContact.
I am THINKING (remember I am not hip with the marketing yet!) that perhaps companies may not invest in seminars in the next 3 months – as Xmas is coming up, the New Year and everyone needs to recover financially. I may be wrong.
So when would be the best months to target companies to hire me for seminars?

Jere answers:
Companies budgets don’t necessarily match up with end of year. Fiscal year and Calendar year are two different things and are seldom the same. So any time is a good time.
However, if you do not have a strong presence (i.e. Well known to the companies you are mailing to), email marketing is not a wise move at the start. Also, make sure you are using a reputable company that is going to give you advise on making it through spam blockers and company firewalls. Business emarketing is NOT the same as consumer emarketing.
I would suggest that you stick with targeted postal mailings until you get your brand out there. Get the postcard/piece into their hands, not the email (sitting right next to the delete button). Or get your phone call through to the right person. Call a company like Acxiom to get a list of the proper companies that may need your services. Then send that list to a company like Vista Print or Postcard Mania to have it printed and mailed. Easy, inexpensive, targeted and right to their desk instead of off in email limbo.

David asks…
Is there any law, CAN-SPAM or other, that forbids any method of finding email addresses for marketing?
As long as your email follows the rules – include an opt-out, clearly identify as an ad, include real address, etc. – does it matter if you, for example, use a search engine to find potential customers’ email addresses?
Having them opt-in is considered “best practice” but not legally required, correct?
Oh, I forgot – I’m looking for facts, not opinions. So please include a link with your answer.
FYI, I did google it. And found plenty of general info and nothing that definitively answers the question. So I’m asking here.

Jere answers:
Correct! CAN-SPAM act does not talk about the opt-in requirement. However if you are identifying your message as an “ad”, you can legally spam people. But the biggest problem is that if the recipients decide not to unsubscribe and hit the spam button instead, their ISPs will “ban” you from sending further email to them and that means any subscriber at that ISP. They will use your IP address, domain name, message body etc. To identify your messages. If your product name is in the message body or your domain name, you can say goodbye to email marketing for good.

George asks…
Where to learn the Internet marketing basics from?
I really want to make some extra money working from home and am interested in learning Internet marketing. I currently stay at home with my two little kids but would be able to devote about 25 hours a week to Internet marketing. It’s just that I don’t know where to start. Where do I find some great resources that help me with the Internet marketing basics as all the websites I have come across are not for absolute beginners like me?

Jere answers:
When I first got into Internet marketing, I felt the same way that you do. I felt completely overwhelmed until I came across a website by Matt Bacak. He broke down what I should be doing and how to get started with the Internet marketing basics instead of assuming I knew how to find keywords or how to set up a website.
I have now been working from home doing marketing since my son was born about 10 months ago. Like you, I only have time for part-time, around 20 or so hours a week (sometimes less, sometimes more), but I have been able to make at least $1000 a month for the past 4 months just by following the advice I got on www.mattbacak.com.
This month looks like I will actually surpass $1,000 as I got lucky with some great sales a couple of days ago. I have to say, once you learn the basics and find your niche, it is amazing at how successful you can be.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Online For Free

James asks…
How do I start an online business? Are the any free online shop creators?
How do i start an online business for free? is there any free online shop creators?
i plan to be the next asda which sells electricals etc. I currently use skrill(MONEYBOOKERS) to accept online payments. but how do i open a free sitee? if you know any free sites please tell me!

Jere answers:
There probably are free online shop creators but they will have tonnes of ads on them. If you’re serious about creating your own online store, you could try out the free trial periods offered by popular web-hosted shopping cart providers. Website cited below. They should have the payment gateway integrated into their solution. Hope this helps.

Charles asks…
I want to advertise a small business online for free, anyone know where to go, or how to do that?
I sell adult bath and romance products.

Jere answers:
Go to http://www.boston.craigslist.org On the right is a bunch of cities. Go to the left and there is a link to place an ad for free.

Robert asks…
What’s the best way to promote an online business for free?
I am a stay at home mom who happens to design jewelry. I do well at craft shows, but being a mom, it’s too much hassling shows and spending time with family. I decided to have a website so i can focus online. But i ma paying a high monthly fee with less access of reaching clients to look at it. If any one has an idea of how i can promote my biz for free, since i can’t afford ads yet, pliz let mw know. Thanks!

Jere answers:
To directly answer the question, the best way to promote an online business is still word of mouth. Or more accurately, social networking. With social networking you can reach new customers, and showcase new jewelry to your past customers. There are several ways to accomplish this:
1. Create a facebook page. Populate the page with quality images of your products. For more likes and extra traffic to your website you can run contests. Give away a gift card, a product, or offer a discount for the person who gets the most likes.
2. Open a twitter account and connect with like minded businesses there. You could search twitter for jewelry or hand made, and follow people from the search results. Post regular updates about products
3. You mentioned you cannot afford ads, but you should check out Google Adwords anyhow. Instead of trying to pay for an ad on the keyword “jewelry”, have your ad show for “hand made jewelry” or similar. The longer key-phrase will in most cases cost less. You can also set your max pay per click however you like. I have had ads run for as little as .30 cents before.
Another suggestion I would like to make is that you check out Etsy.com if you have not done so all ready. The website is dedicated to hand made items, and is a great place to sell your jewelry.

John asks…
How do i start an online business for free?
I want to start an online clothing business.
Where I can sell my designed shirts, pants, etc.
How do I receive the money and ship out the ordered items?
And how do I setup the online website?
where do i go and how?

Jere answers:
“Where I can sell my designed shirts, pants, etc.”
—– You can set-up a blog on blogger or WordPress and sell them on your blog. You can set-up also using free-hosting sites. You can sell them on eBay.
“How do I receive the money and ship out the ordered items?”
—– Sign-up on PayPal or any online payment merchant account.
“And how do I setup the online website?”
—– Blog have cool designs and easy to manage. You may use CMS also for your site, it has cool plug-ins/modules to choose from.
“where do i go and how?”
—– You can ask Google for some help. 😉 Good luck!

Lizzie asks…
how to start your own free business online at a young age?
and for the people that answered this question last time i was talking about the person from big brother hi jackhe started a buisness at 13 and i want to no how to do it

Jere answers:
I would suggest going to the library. I know it’s old fashioned, but several of the suggestions above are bordering on “scams” for the uninitiated and boy… At 13 you’ll be uninitiated! I know I was when I tried to import Noodles and Lighters at your age from Hong Kong to England to sell to my mates at school and the local newsagent… Turned out that 50 lighters on an airplane was both dangerous and illegal and importing food is also illegal.
So – you DO need an idea… But you also need a bank account. Actually… Until you turnover £60,000 a year, you do not even need a VAT number (assuming you are in the UK) but you WILL need to pay tax on your profits, and that will mean having to file accounts and THAT means that you need to keep exceptional book-keeping records.
In short – go to the library and look up “how to write a business plan” books. Advice online is dangerous right now, as it comes from many different countries – all with different laws – and everyone is trying to make money out of you.
Decision 1 is whether you want to be a sole trader or a limited company. The first is easiest… But if you mess up bad, you’ll lose everything you own (and actually, you parents might lose everything as they are legally responsible for your debts). A limited company in the UK is cheap to set up, but there are a huge number of legal issues that you need to comply with.

Your Questions About Business Online Payroll

Laura asks…
Can anyone suggest a good small business payroll software?
My online business is really taking off; and I am about to hire my
first real employee. I need a software package that can help me manage my payroll. Any suggestions on which program to use?

Jere answers:
My church uses and highly recommends a payroll product from their bank, Bank of America. For such a small business, it should work great for you. My business uses QuickBooks and an add-on from them. We like it. Make sure you are ready for employees. Get an employee manual, try all compensation to reward the behavior you desire most. Have you read a great book for small businesses, “The eMyth Revisited?” Please do. It will help you so much. It changed my view of business.

Hehe.

Lisa asks…
Online payroll ideas; fastest way to pay employees?
Im starting my first online business. And Ive spent several days researching payment options. I want the fastest possible way to pay employees and of course I want it to be secure. Payments are recieved via a PayPal account, but I do have a debit card for the account, so if possible I can use that to debit money over to where ever. I do limit my employees to US citizens, but other than that, they could be in any state.
I read that they would have to have a premier or business PayPal account for at least 60 days in order for me to pay them that way. That excludes a lot of people.
I would like to pay weekly if possible.
Any ideas?
Lol, thanks for the advice everyone. Quickbooks looks really good. And I am not saying that internationals cant work for me, yes they are required to do an I9 and I keep a copy of US ID on file. Its not as strict as it sounds. Thanks though!

Jere answers:
Hi – I work at Intuit (the maker of QuickBooks). We have an online payroll solution called “Intuit Online Payroll” which includes free Direct Deposit (QuickBooks is not required). We’re offering Intuit Online Payroll for 6 months free, then just $9.95/mo staring the 7th month.
Here are the details if you’re interested in learning more:

Thomas asks…
Online payroll service vs an accountant?
Can anyone who has tried both give me a POV from their own experience? I run a small business (general contracting) and have had a payroll accountant for 2 years. I usually have 2-4 employees at any given time. I am switching to another bank (PNC Bank) which offers online payroll services @ $39.99 a month vs $32 a week accountant. There would obviously be some extra effort on my part to do the payroll, but I think it’s worth it. I guess as long as the online service is up to date (always updated) on local and federal tax laws and reminds me when/how much/who to pay, then what do I have to lose except the liability factor in a real accountant? I think being able to change salaries and hourly wages on my own time and several other little things I can’t think of right now sure beats having to call or drive to the accountant between 9 and 5, or worse, forgetting to do so during those hours because I’m so busy. Bottom line to anyone who has made the switch is I’m wondering if it is overwhelming to do payroll online or is it worth the extra $$$ to have someone do it for me.

Jere answers:
Payroll for contracting is a lot more complicated than regular payroll. You must account for hours by job and if unionized, pay dues. If you have the time to do it, go for it. You can always rehire the accountant if it doesn’t work out.

Mandy asks…
What type of banking services do small business owners use?
how have banking services changed since businesses started direct payroll deposits, and online banking?

Jere answers:
There really is no need for SMALL business to use any king of actual business services at a bank, so says my bank. I started a small vending business under a doing DBA,’bossiness as’ name and they said since you’re so small just another checking account will do just fine. So I opened another regular checking account.

Using Affiliate Marketing To Promote Your Business
Even if you are already using the Internet to market your business, you should consider adding affiliate marketing to you Internet marketing campaign. Affiliate marketing, when done right, can yield a great deal of positive results for your business. Furthermore, even when affiliate marketing is not done right, it will not likely be financially detrimental to the business. This is because affiliate marketing is essentially an advertising program in which you only pay the affiliates when their marketing efforts yield financial results for your business. This article will take a look at affiliate marketing and explain how it works and how you can maximize the benefits of affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing essentially involves having website owners, known as affiliates, post advertisements for your website on their own website. You can lear more about affiliate marketig by checking out the Internet marketing blog at www.jeremyburns.com for weekly updates. Affiliate advertisements encourage visitors to click on the link and visit your website. The advertisements are specially coded to allow you to determine how many visitors enter your website through this advertisement. Unlike other types of Internet advertising where the business owner pays for the opportunity to place the advertisement on the website, an affiliate program does not work this way. Instead the affiliate is paid when the advertisement yields a desired result.
Affiliate advertisement can work on a pay per impression, pay per click, pay per lead or pay per sale basis. Pay per impression means the affiliate earns a profit each time the affiliate advertisement is served. This means for each unique visitor who views the advertisement the affiliate is given a predetermined amount of money. This amount will depend on a number of factors and will be agreed upon by the business owner and the affiliate before the advertisements begin appearing on the affiliates website. Pay per click programs reward the affiliate each time a visit clicks through the advertisement. Pay per lead programs reward the affiliate when a visitor not only clicks on the advertisement but also performs a desired action such as filling out a survey or registering with the website. Pay per sale programs reward the affiliate each time a visitor clicks through the advertisement on the affiliates website and also makes a purchase during this visit. The compensation plans associated with affiliate programs are so desirable because the business owner can have a number of affiliates and they only have to pay these affiliates if the advertising on the affiliates website is effective.
Affiliate marketing does not always work. When seeking out affiliates it is important to look for a number of different factors. An affiliate with a great deal of experience, a website with high traffic and a proven track record for producing positive results will likely be a good choice for an affiliate marketing program. These affiliates rely on their advertising knowledge to promote the businesses and do not necessarily have to understand the business they are promoting. Another excellent choice for affiliate marketing is to select another business that is closely related to your own business but does not compete with your business. This is a good idea because they may share your target audience and their website visitors will also likely be interested in visiting your website as well. For example if you sell running shoes you may wish to run an affiliate marketing campaign on a website that promotes road races such as marathons, half marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks. This website does not directly compete with your business but they are likely to attract an audience that would be interested in and have a need for your products or services.
Deciding whether or not to implement an affiliate marketing campaign is easy. As we previously mentioned there is very little risk in this type of campaign so it is worthwhile in just about any situation. A more important decision to make is how you plan to compensate your affiliates. The compensation for pay per impression programs is typically pretty low because your business is not necessarily generating a sale from each impression. Conversely, pay per sale programs usually compensates the affiliate better because the business does directly generate a profit from the advertising on the affiliates website. This amount may a flat fee or a percentage of the sale depending on the affiliate agreement.

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Companies

Chris asks…
Finding direct marketing companies for bags and fashion products!?
I have a fashion laptop bag product line design by myself. I do both online retailing and wholesale. I am trying to get a marketing company that can carry my line and sell it to chain stores… like how Amway or P&G sell their products to big retailers (walmart, the bay…etc.). Is there marketing companies that can do this for me? What are those companies?
Thanks for answering!

Jere answers:
Ask your designer and marketing friends and they should know someone in your area can take over your product : )

Donna asks…
where can I find Amway & Melaleuca 2008 US sales ?

Jere answers:
Melealeuca’s global sales for 2008 were US$887million. It’s not reported if that’s at distributor cost or recommended retail.
Amway’s global sales for 2008 were US$8.2billion at distributor cost,
Neither company reported US sales separately, however it appears Amway’s US sales were approximately $1billion in 2008 (see second source below)

Mark asks…
Has anyone ever heard of ACN? It’s a telecommunications direct marketing company?
Does anyone work for them? Is their service good? Can you make a lot of money being a rep?

Jere answers:
First of all, be VERY wary of any company that asks you to pay THEM to work for them.
ACN is a real company, but the $500 start up cost is just to much for someone without a good income already and looking to make money. Also you have to see if ACN services are better than and cheaper than the services provided in your city, town, or state, because if not than its really hard to get people to switch services when they already have a cheaper and better one.
Telecom is very competitive and I see this company offers long distance, VOIP, wireless, internet, and energy. At least they offer many services, BUT I see online that many people who work for them make their money through “recruiting bonuses.”
Your best bet (if you’re interested in telecom) is get a job working for one of the big guys in your area.
Good luck!

Your Questions About The Real Biz

William asks…
Are the cleats from prosoccerstore.biz real nike mercural superfpys?

Jere answers:
I would assume fake.

Ken asks…
Will it be bread and water for the Real-Estate biz…?
Man, did someone hear something…a popping sound…
“I see bubbles…BURSTING”
‘skiff-off’ of 6th cents
; 0

Jere answers:
Real Estate is a business in many diferent ways, but for most agents in the business we are first and foremost affected by the number of sales and the time it takes for properties to sell.
The sale price of a property has some impact, obviouisly, but as long as there are sales, the better agents in any area will make a living.
Our industry is very much a 80 – 20 industry, where 80 % of the money is made by the top 20 % of the agents out there.
When real estate stops selling this affects many more people than just agents, to name a few others affected
Lawyers, inspectors, banks, mortgage brokers, builders, contractors, surveyors, movers, logging industry, roofing companies, appliance sale, sign companies, insurance companies, interior decorators, home improvement businesses, etc etc etc. Including things like car dealers, holiday and vacation agents.
Real Estate is one of those industries that has an incredible impact on the economy, so when it booms, it is great for more than a few people, but when it busts it really hurst almost all levels of the economy.
I know that many people feel that realtors are over paid, and when homes sell, it seems that way, but I would urge you to consider the alternative, for property not to sell may impact and affect even your own income and livelyhood.
Walk a mile in our shoes, as we have adjust to anything that happens in the economy and assist many people through a transition in their live, and allow them to move to this new stage, affordably smoothly and within a time line set out by the situation. We are not perfect, but we do our best, to assist our clients to the best of our ability.
Considering the number of transactions and the value of the real estate we deal with and the emotional impact the buying and selling of real estate has on all parties involved, it is surprsing rare for anything to go wrong to the point of requiring legal action.
We are in the service industry, and hope to allow our clients to get to their next stage in life in a way and manner that allows them to get there, and yes we do get paid well if that works out well and satisfactory to all parties involved.
We do however, do not get paid if nobody buys or sells, and our expenses are more or less the same either way, so yes to some degree the people that actually pay us, in the end pay for those that did not end up buying or selling
For as long as our industry stays a “commision” based industry, this in-equity will continue. Ther are many different compensation models out there, however to date the industry keep returning and maintaining the traditional model of commission only as the norm, right fully or wrongfully.
In Europe, at leastin Holland, a seller pays a fixed amount as a retainer to his agent for marketing and overhead, as well as a fee for when a property sells, the buyer hires an agent and pays a fixed fee, as a retainer as well as a success fee at the time of the purchase completing, that seems to be the norm there, and seems fair, however I have been in this business for 25 some years, and I have not seen anybody working very hard to change the model in place, but who know, and time will tell.

Is the Google Biz Kit seriously for real? Should I trust it to start making money or is it fake to rob me $$?
I need a job because i am a college student and have so many debts. I can’t seem to find a reliable job, then i found this Google online job thing, but usually these types of offers are spam. I don’t know what to do should i but the Google Kit and make $$ or does any know if this is a trick made by Google? Please Help I need a good advice! THANX!

Jere answers:
First of all, Excellent Question.
My Dear Friends.
Not only for you. But I tell this for all my friends.
Friends first of all, there are lot of Affiliate programs on Internet. But still No.1 Online Jobs / Affiliate Program is Google Adsense. Nothing can beat this.
In the same way there are lot of survey sites but most of them are not paying correctly or genuinely after the reach the specific amount.
There is No Data Entry, Form Filling Jobs on Internet. Remember this and please pass this message to your friends and relatives also.
If you need any help (if you are in India then call : (0) 9840860085) if you are outside India then send e-mail which is mentioned in the website which is below this article.
Google Adsense is free to Join Programme. You cannot pay single penny for Google Adsense.
Most of the website offering Google adsense programme on Internet are fraud, scam or cheat whatever way you like to call.
I don’t want to tell these websites names. I just tell you one thing you just type the name of the website (scam websites) name in the Address bar of your web-browser. It shows website not found. Because they are cheating you. Once they achieve the particular amount earnings. They close their website and run away with your money is the present situation.
None of these website take Direct Class for Google Adsense.
Because they don’t have real proof or so called Web SEO Knowledge or Google adsense topics list and so on. They simply ask you 49 dollars and Rs.1250 Indian money and simply send one useless CD and worthless Book by courier. That book is fit for nothing because, in that book already earned members thro adsense only given. How they earned from adsense their technique not given. So it is utter waste of your hard earned money.
Important Note : Without SEO knowledge you cannot earn single penny from Google Adsense. Your website or blog must come for at least 2 to 3 keywords in Google, Yahoo and Msn search then only you can earn money. Otherwise earning 1 dollar per day itself Himalayan task. Read all the Adsense related article on http://www.way2onlinejobs.com
You can try this website (this is only my suggestion) because here you can learn Google Adsense directly (not thro books or cd) Live training always help you most.

Richard asks…
Get something good and everyone wants the same.?
I bought this really special lampshade, moulded silk, handmade the real biz, and i like being a bit unique but as soon as my mates clapped eyes on it they all wanted one. And as soon as I said that I’d read that it was coming out in Living Etc, that cool magazine then that was ….just about the worst thing to say. So now I’m getting pure3design.biz to make me one that will be just unique to me. Cool or what?

Jere answers:
My Daughter has a friend like that no matter what Joanne bought Becky would buy the exact same.
In the end Joanne would just lie and tell her she got it in different shop so when Becky went to buy one of course there would be none there and Joanne would then say oh they must have sold out never mind.

Traffic Generation Software?
I receive emails constantly from internet marketing entrepreneurs with claims of massive traffic generation using their software. Has anyone tried or use a software that has generated decent/ massive amount of traffic to their website, affiliate links or products. I would like reviews/ recommendations of traffic generation software, benefits.

Jere answers:
My friend tried one and got blacklisted by Google. Meaning their website was removed from Google’s directory forever, for cheating the system. Google is HUGE and they are VERY intuitive these days. You can’t cheat the system and all these email solicitations are scams. You MIGHT get a good ranking, but it will be for a month, and then you will be removed and invisible. It’s called being blacklisted.
If you need help building your rankings in an ethical and professional manner, let me know!

Who thinks this a scam?
I went on a website called kijiji looking for employers. I found a job that had a title that said $14.50/hourly, Easy Job, Pefect for Part Timers?.
In the descritop i just told me I would be able to work from home. I sent the owner of the ad an email asking what the job required, and telling them I am interested. In reply I got an email which said (*I put brakets infront of the stuff I thought should not be posted online*):
Hello (my name),
Thank you for responding. Due to the current recession, companies are feeling their websites are not interacting well with regular customers. Our company simply puts average consumers as yourself on their website and you review them online. You indicate to them things an average person would like and dislike. Its a really easy job, where you work at your own pace. The only credential we stress is when you do submit a review is to make sure it is well written and not gibberish.
Here at Prestigious Online Marketing, you get paid to surf the web. We are an international agency with over 240 employees world wide. Please register with the link below. Once you have logged on with our agency you will have an online timer on the bottom right hand of your screen. The control panel will indicate which sites to visit and who to send the email to.
Because you are located in Canada, our pay periods are every second Friday. If you start today (or this week sometime) your next pay day will fall on October 31. The cheques from Canada get mailed from Montreal on the Wednesday and almost always arrive on the Friday, or the following Monday. For website reviewers starting is $14.50 hourly, you must visit at least 3 of our network websites each hour. In order to qualify for a raise, you must submit at least 15 website reviews per 4 hour shift. You will receive an email and contact numbers before your first shift indicating your team leader. You are to report only to the team leader.

Jere answers:
Yes your format to be plain sucks.
Start with personal info like you did
Go to jobs, bullet point highlights and experience in 1 line thoughts
Education at bottom skip the area of study you have a BSBA period they know what is involved in getting one (I have one also)
Then include skills especially if certified and be specific MS Office takes care of at least a few that you listed. Basically skip the whole skills thing you have listed there that shows in your experience
get rid of the long list of experience most people reading have not made it past the first part of the list to read on.
Make sure you have a good cover letter

I got the same exact E-mail after applying for a job on Craigslist. I E-mailed them a couple days ago about this and never got a reply back. I’m guessing it’s a scam. 2 and a half hours for $120? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. It’s probably a spam scam. I haven’t seen anything on the internet about this, though. It’d be nice to hear from someone that actually tried this and if it actually pays.

Jere answers:
The first red flag this is a scam is $4,000 per month no experience or knowledge if it sounds too good to be true it is 2- wire transfers which is money laundering i.e. Drug money, terrorists funding, etc from customer’s accounts to your bank account. NO legitimate employer/company asks for customer funds to be wired to an employee’s bank account etc. If you are not aware you could be criminally charged for participation in this money laundering scheme. These SCAMS are numerous on Craig’s list i.e. Babysitting /personal assistant, sales etc. The next step if you respond is to ask for your bank account number which they can then wipe out the funds or wire illegal funds in and out. I personally reported several scams on Craig’s list thru their website to the authorities. In some cases just responding to the email they are able to hack into your website and steal valuable information. Just DELETE these emails.

Internet Marketing the Easy Way
Just like there are no magic weight loss cures or ways to earn money from home without a great deal of effort, there is no one simple solution to guarantee Internet marketing success. However, Internet marketing is not overly complicated and many business owners can enjoy at least some degree of Internet marketing success with only limited knowledge about the industry. This article will discuss some of the simplest Internet marketing strategies business owners can implement to promote their business online.
Participation in industry related message boards is one of the easiest ways a business owner can use the Internet as a promotional tool. Message boards are websites which provide a forum for Internet users who share a common interest to share information related to this subject or just socialize. Business owners may opt to join message boards which closely relate to their industry or the products or services they offer. This is important because doing this gives the business owners access to a group of Internet users who fall into the target audience for his products or services. It also gives the business owner the opportunity to promote his own website. Many message boards allow users to place a link to their own website in their signature. Business owners who do this and also contribute useful commentary on the message boards may attract potential customers via the link they place in their signature.
Additionally, some message boards may even allow users to post links in the body of the message. This gives the business owner the opportunity to offer his link in response to questions and comments when doing so is relevant and offers something of value to the online conversation. However, care should be taken to carefully review the terms of service and all guidelines on the message board before posting links to ensure this is not a violation of the policies of the message board. Failure to adhere to message board policies may result in removal from the message board or the posts being viewed as spam by other users.
Another simple, but effective, Internet marketing strategy is to hire a consulting firm with search engine optimization (SEO) experience to assist you in achieving high search engine rankings. While the concept of SEO can be rather complex and understanding the most effective strategies and how to properly implement them may take years of experience as well as continual education, the ability to hire a qualified SEO firm is as simple as knowing how to interview candidates and select the most qualified one. Handling your own SEO efforts can be rather difficult but hiring another firm to take care of this for you is not only easy but it can have a significant impact on your website traffic because high search engine rankings typically translate to improved web traffic. This is because Internet users trust search engines to serve the most relevant websites first and typically only visit the best ranking websites when they search for a particular term.
Similarly another simple way to enjoy Internet marketing success is to hire a consulting firm to plan and execute your Internet marketing strategy. Just like SEO, Internet marketing is essentially a full time job. Business owners may have a great deal of difficulty trying to run their business and organize their Internet marketing. Outsourcing this work eases the burden on the business manager and will likely produce more favorable results.

Where to promote an event about kindness in business (San Diego)?
Hi,
The event is in San Diego and I posted it on most online calendars and in Asian Journal.
Does anyone have any ideas on where I can promote the event further to get to small business owners (0-5 employees) who want to be successful in business without giving up on being nice?
Any magazines you think I should advertise in? Websites? Any ideas?
Many thanks!

Mark asks…
How do I change my business contact information for the online business directories?
My business is currently listed under my home address and personal cell phone. I would like to change the address to a p.o. box or outside office and different phone number for safety reasons, so when my business pops up under San Diego directories online it is not my personal information. Do I have to go through my business license and officially change it there or is there a way to update information for standard business directories.

Jere answers:
I’m actually going through the same problem right now, the course of action i’m takeing to fix the situation is to contact the BBB and DNB.
They are slow to do anything but they are the primary sources you will need to have update this information.
It’s always wonderful when you start a brand new business and you start conducting business then you see a customer of yours has supplied your personal information to these companies.
Then the BBB wants you to pay 300.00 dollars and so does DNB to even change or attempt to change your info untill recently.

Hope this helps.

Jere answers:

Your Questions About Business Online Services Social Security

Michael asks…
Using Quickbooks Premier, how long to receive confirmation of electronically filing W-2 and W-3?
I submitted the W-2s and W-3 (I think). But I want to confirm the information that was actually submitted just for my peace of mind. QB shows the status as Agency Accepted, but that doesn’t tell me what they accepted. I can’t find the filing on Social Security Business Services Online. It just says that nothing has been submitted (Maybe that means that no W-2s were submitted via BSO).
My big problem is that I need to file a corrected W-2 (W-2C), but we are not supposed to submit that until SSA has completed processing the initial W-2 submission. But, I cannot tell if that has been completed or not.

Jere answers:
Should take 2 to 3 business days.

Lizzie asks…
What business should I select?
I’m 13. Over the summer, I want to start an online business. I have many ideas, but ive posted the two that struck me the most. I feel these are great ideas, but I’m not sure which one to choose. My goal would be to make six or more figures a year. I know that sounds crazy since I’m only 13, but it’s my goal. I would love to become financially independent.
1. My first idea is my favorite. It is a website where users can submit original songs, and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat. There would also be features where users could post info and where bands could find new band members. I would make money from selling ad space, and maybe creating a pro membership with extra features if the site becomes big enough. Some problems I ran into when I was thinking on this idea was not having enough money to create the site. I thought it could cost $100,000 to have a web design firm create the site. Then i realized my cousin has been at RIT majoring in web design and programming for 2 years. I asked him, and he said he would be happy to build the site. Althoguh he may not be a professional, this site that he builds could be a “beta” launch, and money I make from it, I would reinvest into the site. My grandparents also called me yesterday saying they would love to give me money for marketing.
Idea 1 Overview
Target Customer: musicians, artists, independent artists, songwriters, record producers.
Revenue: ad space, pro membership
Variable Costs: websit matinence, domain, hosting, marketing
Type of business: online business, online company, internet business, Internet company, small business, service business, social network site, online community.
2. My second idea is quite simple. I would create a basic website with storefront capability, and sell musical instruments such as guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, dj, mixers, lighting. I would buy the products from a wholesale/dropship company. Vthey would dropship the items when I give them the order details. I would price competitively but price to make a nice profit.
Target customer: musicians, bands, artists, guitarists, djs, keyboardists, record producers, drummers, bassists.
Revenue: ads on site, selling products
Costs: website, website matinence, domain, hosting, wholesale products, marketing
Type of business: online business, retail, ecommerce.
Idea 3. This would be a website where users can store photos and or data on a secure digital storage site. It would cost users 4.49 a month and they get a certain amount of storage. My cousin would program the site. I would also have great security features for customers. This is a new idea and I know I would be competing with brands such as mozy, photo bucket, etc, but I feel I can start small and build up a better brand name.
Overall, I love the first idea and the third.. Which idea should I do? Which idea is more profitable? Even if you don’t like either, please choose the one of the above if you had to choose. I have been going to a Business Camp at my school and I enjoy it.

Jere answers:
2 actually sounds like a plan. You’re too young to remember, but it’s been over 10 years now that we saw proof that “on the internet” doesn’t make money. You have to have a product or service to sell. Data storage is free – you can get over 100GB of free storage today with no effort. You’re selling ice to Eskimos in the winter if you try to sell storage. Making money from ads on a site only starts working when you have hundreds of users per day, every day.
You still have 2 problems with #2:
1) Your age. You can’t legally be held to a contract, so someone else would have to get the merchant account, PayPal account, etc. And be legally liable for the business. (This will be true for any business until you’re 18.)
2) Competition. If you can’t sell for at least a bit less than the competition, you won’t sell anything.
The current economic situation won’t help either. A LARGE part of your customer base (IOW, people) aren’t spending money for anything but necessities.
But good luck. I wish you well. (I was a TV repairman when I was 10, and delivered newspapers when I was 12.)

Ruth asks…

Jere answers:
Wow! You have AMAZING ideas! I’m 19 in college talking Marketing and I still have NO idea what I want to do! Good job 😀
I agree with you, I really like the 1st one! That is a BRILLIANT idea and you must tell me the second its up & running so I can check it out! Its like YouTube but better… Wow! Amazing 🙂
I’d have to say #1 is also the most profitable if you charged users to upload songs, etc. Maybe a free membership but to then upload you have to pay? Lets say (for example) $2 – 1 song, $5 – 3 songs, $10 – 10 songs etc..
To promote yourself, make sure in HUGE bold letters that to sign up, its completely free! Then, once they’ve registered, then let them know it costs to upload songs, and emphasize cheap, good deals, things like that to make the user feel it is a good bargin!
AND, make sure you advertise or promote the fact that by using YOUR website, you can help them become the next biggest thing in hollywood!
Another tip, make sure the website is user friendly and not hard to us, and very simple 🙂
GOOD LUCK!
I hope you become very successful and keep those dreams coming!!!!!

Donna asks…
How can I match a birthday with a social security number?
I’m the owner of a small business and have hired on some general laborers. In my area, there’s been a crackdown on businesses that hire illegal immigrants. The fines and penalties are harsh if I’m caught having fraudulent workers on my staff. Now each of my workers have provided a social security card and identification as required for the I-9, but I just want to make sure. I don’t hire that often so I don’t want to have to pay for a background checking service. Just looking for some free services online where I can match up identities.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jere answers:
You can’t do it this way. But, the Social Security website has a procedure. See link …

Susan asks…
Can I submit employees’ W-2 salary forms (for tax) on paper?
We are a household employer of two people (nanny, cleaning). I need to give them W-2 forms for 2007 and file the information with the (US) Federal government. The amounts of info and money involved are trivial from the IRS’s perspective. But I had wanted to do this early in 2008 as a convenience to our employees, now just want to do it by the Jan. 31 deadline to obey the law.
For the previous 2 years I created their W-2 forms and submitted that info to the Feds online, using Social Security‘s Business Services Online (BSO). This year I am finding it impossible to log onto BSO, having spent about 20 hours this month trying to log in, calling their number, speaking to somebody, sending email, leaving voicemails. I still cannot log onto this user-hostile system and create/file the two employees’ W-2 forms electronically. To obey the law and get the W-2s to our employees by Jan. 31, can I write the forms by hand, give those out, and submit the employer info to the Feds by US mail?

Jere answers:
No.
You can handwrite the W-2 if you use black ink and write legibly, but a handwritten W-2 may delay the processing of the return.
However, for reporting the W-2 wages to the SSA, you must complete the online reporting.

Mandy asks…
Is google adwords the best option for getting traffic to my internet marketing blog?
I have heard that google adwords only gets a 3-4% click through, is this true?
Is google adwords really the best option to get traffic to my blog?
How soon will I see trafffic come to my blog?

Jere answers:
Use SEO to increase your blog traffic, at least you’ll not paying Adwords 🙂
there is so many ways how to get traffic for your blogs but the question is are you willing to pay or not if you do, use Adwords, but if have low budget use SEO for long term Investment but unfortunately SEO need times at least three month or more, anyway if you using Adwords don’t forget to optimize your Adwords, use Google Analytic , to get more specific location about your niche, do some keyword research, to get cheap prices, and buy some e-books or download about Adwords free e-book , believe me using Adwords without any knowledge can kill your pocket,
PS. Use hubpages to get Instant traffic its much better than other blogs, believe me you will enjoy using hubpages, cause hubpages is so easy lol 🙂

Robert asks…
Where are places I can find talented guest writers for an internet marketing blog?
I am looking for skilled writers at a cheap rate or are willing to write just for gaining publicity on their own site.

Jere answers:
I’m a writer.
Check out my blog at http://jcmasters7.blogspot.com
Let me know if you are interested in making a deal.

Susan asks…
How can I get high quality traffic to my internet marketing blog?
Detailed answers are most welcome

Jere answers:
Spread the word.
Post your website on Google and Yahoo so that it will be added to their search database.
Tell people about it.
Write about it on other sites that are similar to yours. Say that theirs is good but ask if they could visit yours.
Advertise. Even free means work, such as flyers.
Make it interesting so more people talk about it after the go and see it, and so they come back.
Update often. Use color, and not big words. Lots of pictures help. Break lots of info. Down into small sections.
Hope this helps!

Carol asks…
What makes a successful Internet Marketing blog?

Jere answers:
What I’ve learned over the last few years is that in order to be successful in Internet Marketing you need to think of your customers before you think of your bottom line – which would be the money.
You need to find the wants, needs, desires and problems of people in your Internet Marketing niche and provide the solutions to your readers.
All the while, you should also be building a subscriber list by having an opt-in form on your blog.
You need to provide current, useful information and great product recommendations, but not in every post. Over-deliver! Be yourself & let your personality shine through on your blog. Own up to your failures and successes so people can see that you’re real.
Make yourself openly and obviously available to people with a ‘contact’ page on your blog as well as letting your readers connect with your through social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
Hope this all helps.

Your Questions About Direct Marketing News

Nancy asks…
Did you hear about the Fidelity information breach?
It seems like the Fidelity information breach (an employee stole 2.3 million customer’s records and sold them to a direct marketing company) wasn’t well covered in the news– did you hear about it? From where?

Jere answers:
I haven’t seen anything. But these are so common now that people hardly pay attention any more.

Lizzie asks…
Please, what is it meant by “during news” in this context?
———————
Finally traders looking for direct market access, low leverage but do not mind if the spread widens *during news* or during times of low liquidity may sign up for the STP/ECN account.

Jere answers:
Maybe ask in Financial or Business or similar, it must be a specialist use of the word ‘news’. I hazard a guess by speculating that in the context ‘during news’ means during a time when a lot of things are happening in the world that might affect financial markets – but that’s only a guess.

David asks…
Jobs, jobs, everywhere? Maybe not in Calgary advertising / marketing. Am I wrong?
I’m a direct marketing manager with 15 years experience in the USA, and got my start in consumer marketing in Calgary in the late 1980s.
I’m wishing to return “home” now with my new family, so thought that getting in with a company in Calgary would be a reasonable piece of cake, due to all the “wonderful” news about Cowtown in the news.
However, that seems to be not quite true…
Correct me if I’m wrong… but after a week’s visit, I determined:
– If someone is an engineer in the oil industry, or is involved in home construction (electrician, plumbing, etc.) or wants to drive trucks in the northern oil fields, there are many jobs
– If someone wants to take a low-salary service job (flipping burgers, etc.), there are many of those.
However, ad industry people were telling me that my skills and background would not be conducive to finding a ad/marketing position in Calgary; they say most of those are in Toronto. I felt lucky to get a couple of returned calls…
What gives?

Jere answers:
The one thing the media keeps forgetting to tell people, yes there is a boom in Alberta but it is a specialized boom.
Accounting, oil industry, and service all require more and more people to work. Unless you fit into one of those fields/ companies you won’t find as many job openings.
That being said, there are jobs for others out there with any experience. Myself being a sales person, didn’t have the 1000 companies my husband had calling (he has 3 trades) but I managed to find work, and work I like also.
So it might take you a little longer to find the perfect job in your field, but don’t’ give up.
But remember, with the boom the housing prices are ridiculous also. 300 000 for a duplex (semi), 1200 a month for an apt. They have Toronto prices.
Good luck with your search and I hope it all works out for you!

Grocery/ Marketing magazines? ?
At work, I always read SN on my break (Supermarket News). It is directed towards grocery store management, but has a lot of articles about marketing, which I have a sincere interest in and plan to pursue as a career.
Are there any magazines like this that I can get for personal reading? hahaha. I’m strange..
I would prefer one with no or a low subscription fee, also.

Jere answers:
I would recommend Success magazine. It has been in print for over 100 years and it is a must read for anyone in sales, network marketing, marketing, advertising. It is motivational and educational. There are dozens of books that can help you develop not only as a person but in your career. I would recommend these to get you started: How to win friends and influence people, the 7 habits of highly effective people, the closer, raving fans, gung ho, encore effect. There are dozens more like these. They wont teach you the latest advertising or marketing techniques, but they will teach you how to understand people. Knowing how to “read” a persons body language and understanding the slight changes in there tone of voice can help in any field. My answer may not be exactly what you were expecting, but it is the same advice I will give my own children when they are ready for it. Good luck!

Hiring a Consultant for Internet Marketing
If you are considering jumping into the world of Internet marketing but do not have experience in this type of marketing, it is definitely worthwhile to consider hiring a consultant to assist you in your advertising endeavor. This is important because they can do a great deal to assist you in ensuring that the marketing effort is a success. You may pay more for their services than you would to handle the Internet marketing on your own but the results you gain from the effort will likely be significantly higher. Hiring a consultant to assist you in your Internet marketing campaign is even a worthwhile endeavor if you have some experience in Internet marketing but are competing in a competitive niche and need some additional assistance to help you rise above the competition.
The key to hiring a consultant to assist in an Internet marketing campaign is to hire the right consultant. You will find there are many different options available to you as Internet marketing has become a huge industry. However, not all consultants are created equal. You may find that some consultants can create significantly better results than other consultants. There are, however, a few characteristics to look for when seeking a qualified consultant in the Internet marketing industry. Surprisingly cost is not one of the most important considerations. Experience and past performance are much more important. You can compare costs among consultants who are similarly qualified but using cost as a primary source of evaluation is not recommended.
Experience is very important when it comes to selecting a consultant to assist you in an Internet marketing campaign. Experience is critical because consultants who have a great deal of experience also have a great deal of understanding of which techniques work best and which techniques are not as effective. This can save you a great deal of time and money as there will likely not be as much experimentation necessary as there would be with a less experienced consultant. More experienced consultants will also likely be better skilled at dealing with clients and will likely answer your questions more quickly and keep you better informed about the progress of your Internet marketing campaign. All of this is important because you will likely be very interested in receiving progress reports and staying up to date on everything that is going on with your Internet marketing campaign.
Seeking out a consultant in the Internet marketing industry with an excellent past record of performance is also very important. This is so important because consultants who have had a great deal of success in the past will likely have a great deal of success while assisting you as well. Past performance is considered to be one of the best indications of future performance. This does not mean that new consultants are necessarily going to perform poorly but there is some risk involved in selecting a consultant who does not have a great deal of experience or who has not performed well in the past. You can feel much more confident putting your Internet marketing campaign in the hands of a consultant who typically generates the type of results you are looking for in your own Internet marketing campaign.
Once you have evaluated consultants on the basis of experience and past performance, it is time to start considering price. Considering price early in the process of seeking a consultant may cause you to be influenced by price over performance. Some consultants may be incredibly affordable but if they are not capable of producing the desired results, it may end up being a complete waste of money. However, once you have narrowed your list of potential consultants down to a few qualified candidates, it is definitely time to start comparing prices. Once you are confident each of the candidates on your list is well qualified, choosing the least expensive candidate is worthwhile. However it is important to note all of the fees involved to ensure you are making an accurate cost comparison.

Your Questions About Internet Business Phone Service

Ruth asks…
What phone/internet service should I choose? I am starting a small business…..HELP!!!?
I have researched every service that I can think of including:
Qwest
Cox
Verizon
Cingular
AT&T
I only need a cell phone, a business phone, or a VoIP phone. I also need at least 512 Kbps bandwidth on the internet. I need to know if the software works on Mac and Windows. I also want to know if the service is good. If you have experience please let me know. I would like to know if they treat you nicely when you have questions, and whether their tech support knows what they are talking about.
I also need to know if the company has good rates, and why you think so, (please give me a comparison)…….

Jere answers:
Your options depends upon the cheapest connection to your place of business. I currently have:
Charter Cable TV with Internet service that cost me $120 a month.
Vonage phone service – $24 month unlimited and no long distance charges
Verizon Cell Phone – $65 with 1,500 minutes and free text
So for my three the total cost is about $210 a month.
I’ve always had good service and good response for all.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
OK…. Just because a sales person tells you that an ‘All In One’ plan is better… Doesn’t mean it’s true!

Sandy asks…
internet phone service for business with 80 extenions with no pbx?

Jere answers:
Whaaaaaaaaaat???? No what is it???? 80 extension “IS” pbx!!

Steven asks…
What happened to Sunrocket internet phone service? Did it go out of business?

Jere answers:
I got an email this morning saying that Packet8 is taking over Sunrocket customer!!!
The offer looks pretty good to me!!
“PACKET8 has 100,000 consumer [accounts] and those are key because that base provides us with economies of scale — for example, PSTN termination.
Internally-developed technology is another key to Packet8’s stability — a contrast to SunRocket which licensed its technology from other companies.
“PACKET8 has 68 patents in this [VoIP] technology,” “We co-invented the technology. Because we control the technology, [we control] quality, reliability, scalability. Over the long term, it’s helped us reduce our cost base because Packet8 don’t have to pay anybody for anything.”
And the P8 sales team has been signing up 700-800 new customers daily since SR went out of business.
I got this from the P8 forum…
Internet Phone Company Halts Operations
July 17, 2007
Internet Phone Company Halts Operations
SunRocket, an Internet telephone company, has ceased operations and is moving its customers to one or more other companies, according to a person briefed on its status.
A recording on SunRocket’s customer service line said the company “is no longer taking customer service or sales calls.” Executives of SunRocket, which was founded in 2004 and is based in Vienna, Va., could not be reached for comment.
Telecommunications industry analysts said the development Highlights the struggles of start-ups trying to offer telephone service over the Internet.
These start-ups face enormous competitive pressure from the biggest players in the telecommunications industry, both cable and traditional telephone companies. The cable companies in particular have made a strong push into the telephone market by offering the service as part of a product bundle with television and Internet access.
The start-ups, like SunRocket and Vonage, the best known of the group, tend to offer a single product, and they do not have the same power as the larger companies to control quality of service because they do not operate their own telecommunications lines, said Richard Greenfield, a media analyst at Pali Research in New York.
T at Pali Research in New York.
In April, SunRocket announced that it had reached 200,000 subscribers and said the milestone was a testament to consumers’ embrace of Internet telephony, which allows telephone calls to be transmitted as data over the Internet. One of SunRocket’s main pitches to potential customers was its offer of $199 for a year of unlimited calling to the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Vonage, which went public last year, was a pioneer in the commercialization of the technology. But its fortunes have floundered too, along with its stock, which has been on a steady slide over the last year, closing Wednesday at $2.95.
Alan Bezoza, an analyst at Oppenheimer & Co., said Vonage had continued to add subscribers, but the cost of attracting them had put the company deep into the red. He said that in its first quarter this year, Vonage added 166,000 customers, but lost $73 million. The start-ups “are going up against the marketing muscle of very large companies, like cable and telecom companies,” Mr. Bezoza said.
Mr. Bezoza said that he believed that stand-alone Internet telephone companies could wind up as successful niche players in the market, but their investors would have to be willing to endure a substantial period of losses before they built enough of a customer base to be profitable.
I have been a P8 customer for over 3 years now, and have been very happy!!
I get a my latest new from dslreports.com
Sunrocket has gone bankrupt, just google it and you will find like millions of things on it, about your money, depending on how long ago you paid and how many more months you had left, you should call your credit card company and tell them you didn’t get a full service from sunrocket, and they should give you some money back. We only had like one or two months left on ours so I don’t think we will be trying to get a few dollars back.

I’m a small business owner and I would like internet service only, no phone does that type of service exsist?
I don’t need a land line I only need Internet.Do I have to get phone plan or can I just get internet? My local phone company is Verizon

Jere answers:
If you still want to have a phone number there are options for using VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) instead of your standard analog landline telephone.
VoIP will reduce your cost but it won’t completely eliminate them. You will need to transfer your number to a SIP provider. Typically SIP providers will give you free pc to pc calls, but there will still be charges to be able to make and take phone calls from standard phones and cell phones. But your long distance charges in particular will be lower by taking advantage of your internet connection. You also have more options to use software for controlling your phone system which, and software for a virtually PBX, Auto Attendant, or On-Hold Messaging, is also going to be cheaper than its hardware counterparts.
Here is a link on NCH Software that talks about and gives links to several different SIP providers that you can compare and take a look at to see what might meet your needs.
My second reason for giving that particular link is that NCH has some really good and economical telephony software that is designed with small business in particular in mind, so you may well want to take a look at their telephony software:
http://www.nch.com.au/phone/index.html
When you are using VoIP you have the option to use a softphone software application like NCH’s ExpressTalk and talk through your computer’s speakers and microphone, or you can use either a USB Phone plugged into your computer, or IP phones on you LAN (Local Area Network). If you will be looking for phones, here are two links for USB and IP phones respectively.

Your Questions About Doing Business Online

Lizzie asks…
Where do I go to read and share reviews about companies doing business online?
I have had a very bad experience with a catalog company and feel the need to share it. I’d also like to read about other peoples experiences with companies doing business online. i’ve been to Epinion.com but can’t find a review there… only more online shopping. So where do you go to hear and be heard from?
The BBB is just a place to complain. If a company isn’t a member of the BBB there’s nothing they can do other than relay the complaint. The site you sent me to seems more for businesses than consumers. I want know know if there is a consumer forum for sharing information, reviews and/or ratings of companies doing business online.

Go to the Better Business Bureau’s site at bbbonline.org. Also, check this site out for more info on business online:

Internet will soon become big business in my country after 2 undersea fiber optic cables are complete. I want to be competitive in all that business. You can do a Google Certification course in AdWords, or you can do a Search Engine Optimization course from any of the online universities.

Jenny asks…
What is appropriate “netiquitte”(net etiquitte) for doing business online?
it’s part of my entrprenaurship homework and i can’t seem to find any examples on the internet/

Jere answers:
I think maybe you are focusing too hard on the words in the question. The appropriate netiquette for doing business online is exactly the same as doing business face to face.
The only difference is in regards to email and other communications in which you can find all kinds of responses from a yahoo search.
If your selling an item in a store you place your items in such ways as to drive desire and supply need. You are cheerful and friendly at the checkout counter and you help your customers as much as possible to make a choice.
If your selling an item on a website you place your items in such ways as to drive desire and supply need. You are cheerful and friendly at the checkout page and you help your customers as much as possible to make a choice.
See? No real difference. Its when it comes to the email and other internet specific things that netiquette is relied on. You can find that stuff pretty easy:

Nancy asks…
how to secure your home computer if you’re doing your business online?
what are the “things” needed to secure it?is it possible for anyone to hack the computer?how do i protect it from viruses etc.? is anti-virus softwares enough?

Jere answers:
I will add to the excellent advice given by “gruntmaster9000”
1. Your business computer should be dedicated to your business financial needs and used for no other purpose. You don’t use it with Google or Yahoo or any other search engine. You don’t use it for news and information. This business computer is strictly for financial things, your bank accounts and websites where you upload data (such are articles and reports).
If you need to use Google or Yahoo or other search engines, or need to check non-business email, or need to read news reports, etc., use a separate computer. That way any criminal websites that you might accidentally visit cannot compromise your business computer. Criminals have been installing hack attacks in advertising that goes to legitimate websites, and you want to keep that trouble off your business computer.
2. Do not use WiFi wireless – Connect your business computer to your router with wire – Ethernet cable. Where there are no walls the WiFi signal travels a long ways, and can easily travel 50 feet outdoors – people could park at your street curb and “sniff” your WiFi signals and collect data to enable them to steal your financial information or hack into your business computer.
3. If possible, set up the router so the business computer has its own connection to the Internet and is isolated from any other computers connected to the router. Most inexpensive home routers do not have this ability. I have read that one Apple router and one Linksys router do this, they call it a “guest” connection.
4. Take notes – lots of notes – about how you have set up your computer system. Update the notes as needed when things change. Hardware can fail, and you will need to be able to set up another computer system quickly if that should happen. Extensive notes make a impossible task merely tedious.
5. Make backups. There are many ways to do backups, long articles have been written in the computer and software magazines about various software and hardware methods, and when they find something does not work well, they report that, which helps you avoid those products.
That’s all I have room to write. Good luck !

Laura asks…
Tips on starting an online business?
I am good at jewelry making and i was wanting to start an online business. I want to know how much a website would cost and the basics of creating one. Also, do you think i should start out by selling my jewelry on a separate website like amazon or yardsellr then creating a website later on?

Jere answers:
Sell them first on an established website. Even with fees, it’ll be cheaper than creating your own and trying to get people to look at your stuff.
Before you start, make sure you have a detailed written business plan. Even if it’s side income for you and not your livelihood, you want to be sure you’ll have a good chance of making money.

James asks…
What are your tips and tricks to starting an online business?
The question is straightforward. I want to know how people make their online business successful? From how they start from scratch. How did you get your inspiration if you own an online business? Where do you get your products? Do you make them yourself or what? How do you market your products? And how did you come about making your own personal website? Did you make it yourself or hire a professional to do it? How much time out of the week does your online business take up?

Jere answers:
To make an online business successful, you must know what you are doing. You can’t just walk through your business owning days blindly. That won’t work. You also have to love what you are doing. If not, you will become bored and even find that you aren’t caring or putting enough effort into it as you should be.
To start an online business, of course you must first establish the business. You will need at least these for things: 1. Dba. 2. Ein. 3. Seller’s permit. 4. Business license.
Then, you will need a domain (www.yourname.com), website, host, shopping cart/ merchant account, etc. You can either pay someone to design the website for you (which I HIGHLY recommend if you are not good with html or css codes), or you can use a template. If you use a designer, they will let you know what shopping carts and hosting will work best with the website they created.
I got my inspiration for my business because I realized that only I can live out my dreams. I realized that I can’t work for someone else and always have my ideas put into action, or even be heard! I took a business class and fell in love. I found myself wanting to know everything about it, and actually reading business text books in my spare time.
I am not very creative with my hands, so I purchase my products from wholesalers. I love to shop, and shopping for my store, even sorting inventory, is really rewarding for me!
I market my products a few different ways. Word of mouth is a huge way!! Some how, my business almost always can be brought up in a conversation just by chance. Of course, I carry plenty of business cards around with me to hand out. I have email marketing through a subscription. I offer promotional items with my business name on it as well. There are many other things.
I did not have the time to learn how to do web design, and I wanted my website to be very customizable to my needs and wants. I knew that a template wouldn’t give me what I needed. I looked around for a web designer and glanced at many portfolios until I found one that I liked. I got VERY lucky to find a designer that offered a shopping cart in the one time fee.
Shopping carts can get very expensive, the price goes up with the more products you get. I don’t have to pay a monthly fee.
I would say that my business probably takes up a large chunk of my time during the week, including weekends. My work does not stop during the weekends. But, I got very lucky because I still have time to do things that I like… Even though taking care of my business is probably my favorite thing to do. I still find time to see my friends and spend time with my family often.
Good Luck

how do i start my ONLINE BUSINESS from scratch? ANY TIPS?
im sick of dead end jobs and manual labouring jobs…i want to know how these people set up their own online business and earn lots of money doing it, ive got the time to do it…i just dont know where to do start??? HELP!!!

Jere answers:
I would like to suggest you to start a blog with the topic which you are interested in. It is absolutely free. Tell your friends and family about your blog. Promote it on social networking websites like Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc. After getting adequate traffic try to monetize it with advertising programs like Google adsense, Clicksor, Infolinks etc. You can also join affiliate marketing sites like CJ.com or Clickbank.com. They will pay you good commission.

Daniel asks…
I did a Graphic Designing course and I wanna do it online?
But I don’t know how to set up my business online..got tips?

Jere answers:
If you have Graphic Design education degree or diploma, and wish to start a business , the setup would require other aspects in place prior to having online website, having a portfolio and references , local contacts and previous works, an office or studio set inplace for local customers,
anything through online can be placed into a personal website, requiring a web service or own server, web forms as data files for orders and account system for banking, all those platforms and services already set as base, then anything online can simply be placed into site as services being provided,
Yahoo has some small businesses services you can get an idea from, and use if able ,
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/
check your internet provider for possible options, if none, check local services in your area through
yellow pages or google maps,
with paper and pen, jot down what your service is al about,
what the customer needs to know/ FAQ /help,
how they apply for services,
how you execute services,
how payment is exchanged,
contact us: @ email/ phone, automated, cloud, wireless
anything to do with taxes, or % shipping, refunds,
possibility of legal sources for security or bonding, (check bottom of this Y! Page for ideas,)
with those details you merely have to place into a web-page using html /css/flash/pdf tools,
and place onto online web service site,
check places like Etsy and Ebay for how users sell actual products,

Marketing Your Business Online
If you are not already marketing your business online, it is time to start. Although there are a few exceptions, just about every business can benefit from online marketing. There are just so many advantages to this type of marketing. First of all, it is extremely affordable to market your business online. Other advantages to marketing your business online include the ability to reach a large target audience, the ability to reach potential customers all over the world and the ability to customize the marketing for different sectors of the target audience.
The affordability of Internet marketing is one of many reasons why many business owners are turning to the Internet for advertising. Advertising online is incredibly affordable especially when you consider how many potential customers a business owner can reach with an online marketing campaign. Most methods of online advertising are quite affordable and some of them do not have any direct costs. For example, you may choose to market your business online by participating in industry forums and posting links to your website whenever it is appropriate to do so. In this case the cost of creating and maintaining the website is insignificant in comparison to the number of potential clients you could reach through online marketing. Additionally, the costs associated with posting links to your website are incidental. You could consider the cost of having access to the Internet as part of the cost but you most likely require Internet access for other reasons as well so it is completely worthwhile.
Reaching a large target audience is another very worthwhile reason for marketing your business online. You may have spent a great deal of time and energy doing market research and determine who your target audience is. You may have also spent a great deal of time trying to figure out the best way to reach this audience. This is a very sound marketing principle but as it applies to marketing on local television, radio and print media it only allows you to reach a limited audience. However, when you take your marketing to the Internet you automatically drastically increase your potential target audience because you now have the ability to reach members of your target audience around the world.
This ability to reach customers around the world is another major advantage to marketing your business online. Regardless of where you live and operate your business, you have the ability to reach those who have an interest in the products you sell or the services you provide no matter where they live. This makes it possible for you to do business with customers around the world.
Likewise the fact that the Internet is available 24 hours a day is also very beneficial to those who choose to market their products or services online. Shopping for products and services in person can be very difficult especially for individuals who work long hours or those who work unusual hours. These working conditions make it difficult for these individuals to do business and make purchases of products and services they need during regular business hours. However, business owners who have an online presence are much more convenient because unlike stores and calling centers, the website never closes. This convenience gives potential customers the ability to view products and services, compare these products and service to the ones offered by competitors and make a purchase at any hour of any day.
If you are a business owner who is reading this article and you do not already have a strong online presence, you need to immediately start learning more about the world of Internet marketing. This is so important because if your competitors are marketing online, you may find they are gaining a steady advantage and are becoming more appealing to potential customers. Before too many of your potential customers become loyal customers of the competition it is time to start figuring out how you can market your business online and keep up with the competition.

Your Questions About Internet Business Models

Charles asks…
What are different Internet Business Models to work with?
I have received an answer from Patrick (Thanks a lot Patrick) against a different question asked by me. In his answer Patrick wrote
“There are a lot of internet business model you could consider of (e.g. selling phyiscal or digital products, buying and selling domain names, creating paid newsletter or websites, affilitate marketing, auctions and many more).”
I need to know what are other internet business models or methods to start business online.
Thanks & Best Regards,
Shabbir Hazari

Jere answers:
The Web offers tremendous opportunities for those who know how to harness it. You hear of stories of people who earn thousands if not millions of dollars from doing business on Web. While there are many scams (same way in the traditional business world), there are various ways you can legitimately make money on the Web.
Here are the main ways you can earn money from the Internet:
1. Sell products on the Web – Big boys like Amazon or Lillian Vernon online catalog or smaller businesses like BigKidsVideo.com or Candle4Less.com all sell products on the Web.
You can either sell: (a) through your own storefront through your own website or applications such as Yahoo Stores; or (b) sell through online auctions like eBay
http://www.ebay.com
http://auctions.yahoo.com/
http://www.overstock.com
http://www.amazon.com
http://www.ubid.com
http://www.liquidation.com
2. Information Delivery. Others such as About.com or EuropeforVisitors.com create content and monetize their content in a number of ways:
a. Advertising – there are several ways you can earn money from advertising:
1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.
Burst Media http://www.burstmedia.com
Fastclick (ValueClick). Http://www.fastclick.com
Advertising.com. Http://www.advertising.com
Tribal Fusion http://www.tribalfusion.com
2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.
Google Adsense https://www.google.com/adsense/
Yahoo! Publishing Network (currently in beta and available to US publishers only) http://publisher.yahoo.com/
Intellixt http://vibrantmedia.com/site/web_01a5.htm
Quigo Adsonar http://www.quigo.com/adsonarexchange.htm
IndustryBrains http://www.industrybrains.com
Commission Junction Evolution http://www.cj.com
Kanoodle Brightads http://www.kanoodle.com/about/brightads.html
Clicksor http://www.clicksor.com/affiliate_programs.php
Contextweb http://www.contextweb.com/
Bidclix http://www.bidclix.com/
Bidvertiser http://www.bidvertiser.com/
3. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: “no pain, no gain!”
b. Affiliate Programs – you sell other people’s products that your audience may be interested in; and you get a certain commission after the desired action was done (whether a sale, a lead, subscription to email newsletter, or however this is defined)
c. Paid online content. Hoovers.com or WebmasterWorld.com Supporters forum all require paid subscription before accessing the information
d. Content licensing and syndication. Some publishers such as the Associated Press get paid every time their content is published elsewhere

Chris asks…
Where can I find information about internet business models based on advertising?

Jere answers:
You cannot base a realistic business model on JUST advertising revenue. It cannot work.
Think about it, to get advertising revenue you have to get users coming to your site and then clicking on the displayed ads.
To get users coming to your site you need to advertise to attract them (costs money). You can bring users to your site by other means but it will take a minimum of a year to get any real traffic.
The cost of bringing users to your site by advertising will always be more than your receipts from advertising on your site.

Paul asks…
does anyone have Afuah and Tucci’s Internet Business Models and Strategies?
and could they tell me what questions follow case 2 Webvan reinventing the milkman? pretty pls!

Jere answers:
Pretty pls

Donna asks…
what is an internet business model?
What is an internet business model and what are some examples?

Jere answers:
An internet business model is one in which all aspects of commerce are conducted online and not in a “brick and mortar” store.
Two popular businesses based on this model are Amazon.com and Ebay because 100% of their transactions are conducted online. These companies also rely on the internet for their customer service and contact.
Walmart is a mixed model because you can shop online or walk into a store to do your shopping.

Lisa asks…
How is the Internet changing the economics of information and business models?

Jere answers:
Considering the wide spread Internet access available now, businesses are now able to reach untouched potential customers. However, to maximize any business medium, one first needs to understand what the positive potential can be.
Such is the positive potential that can be identified as the many advantages of an online business.
· Employee Options
With an Internet business firms can offer its employees work options that other companies may not be able to offer. They can offer employees the option to work from home, create their own hours and create their own work environment. Firms can also hire employees from anywhere in the world, which means they have access to a large pool of talent. When employees have this kind of flexibility, it can make morale high and creates an atmosphere for higher productivity.
· Business Hours
An Internet business offers flexibility to the customer as well, according to the e-Business Guide. Firms can set their online business to accept orders 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. They can offer a library of information to customers about their business that can be available at all times, and customers can send in emails with questions any time they want. With the automatic order taking capabilities of the Internet, and online real-time inventory tracking abilities, firms can offer customers anywhere in the world speedy order information without the need for constant human interaction.
· Global Presence
The Internet reaches millions of people all over the world at any point of time. An online business can create an international presence at once without the need to pay for costly retail or office space in a foreign country. An online company can also segment the business and create specific websites to appeal to different cultures throughout the world.
· Dynamic Marketplace
The Internet offers businesses the ability to update product information, change product design and specifications, and introduce pricing promotions and specials instantly. Firms can take feedback from customers and quickly make changes to their website user interface to help make the customers’ experience easier. An online business can also offer customization options to customers that can allow someone to make changes to a product and then order the product with those changes. For example, a customer can create and order his own customized T-shirt from an online business quickly and easily.

Your Questions About Real Biz Llc

Maria asks…
i want to get into the real estate rehab/investing biz. should I start with a LLC or what?
I am buying my first home to fix up for myself to live in. should i put that in a llc????

Jere answers:
If you are going to use the property as a personal resident, you shouldn’t purchase it under the LLC. It’s an investment and I’m sure you expect to turn a profit but it’s not part of the business. It’s not good practice to mix your personal items with the business’s items.

Sandy asks…
Where can i find layman’s info on whether I should be an S corp, C corp, or LLC for my new construction biz?
“Layman’s info” is the key. I’m not real savvy with the technical jargon and tax implication details, so a “for dummies”-type website would be helpful. Thanks.

Jere answers:
There are many good web sites out that cater to us laymans! I have set my company up as a sole propietorship, but am working on moving to an LLC.
Check out:
www.entreprenuer.com
www.businesstown.com
www.sbinformation.about.com/od/bizopportunities/a/startup101.htm
www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=99336,00.html
www.inc.com/guides
www.startupnation.com
This will keep you busy for awhile. Search for LLC…and you’ll get great info.
Good luck.

Jere answers:
No! Just two questions to prove it:
Who will be the owner of the domain name after the 6-month period?
Did you know a domain name is less than $10/year and that you can find hosting service for as less as $1/month?

James asks…
Can I write off stuff as a sole-proprietor?
I’m 24, male, and I live in California the last year (I moved here in January). About the same time in january I got a crappy job, and then starting making money as an online advertiser from home (buying ad-space on google and whatnot).
Now, almost 1 year later I have made probably 30k revenue (although for the first 6 months I wasn’t making real money at all, I had that crappy job then I quit when I started making several thousand a month).
The problem is I haven’t kept up with my finances and now I need to go through and find how much I owe in taxes.
I do NOT have a business entity set up (yet). I don’t have an llc, s-corp, etc.. I’m just a sole individual.
During this period I also had 2 incidents where I went to the ER twice which cost about $7 or 8k (I don’t have insurance), a business trip to vegas Which cost 1-2k and some other things.
My question is, being male, 24, single, no business entity, living in california…
1. Can I write off my large medical bills as an expense so that I don’t have to count it towards the profit/income that I need to pay taxes on?
2. Can I write off all the other things that have to do with business.. such as the vegas business trip, a portion of my rent, a portion of my cellphone bill, a portion of my food, etc?
Someone told me unless I have a business entity (not a sole proprietor) I can’t write anything off.. it’s all counting as income, whether its a medical bill or biz expense or whatever. Another person told me though that I can in fact do that.
Anyone have any tips? I plan to get a CPA so I don’t need to ask on yahoo answers (lol), but a 100% positive answer by someone would really help ease my tension in case I end up having to pay taxes on all those medical bills.
Thanks

Jere answers:
Don’t be concerned about the other entities, continue to operate as a sole proprietor
and now to the questions, if the trip to Las Vegas was business related, the expenses of the trip can be deductible in the amount of the trip that was for the business, ie you spent 2 days in the town and 4 hours of the 24 would amount to 1/6th of the expenses for the business
your trips to ER are personal, not business related, altho the purpose of the trip may have been business
is your business operated out of your home? Then the portion of your home ie maybe one room out of 3, 1/3th of your household costs(rent, utilities, insurance etc) could be shown as use of home expenses but the space must be exclusively for the business, nothing of personal use in that room
if you have only one phone,no this is not deductible, you need a separate line for your business
you can go to www.irs.gov and request Publication 34 for all your answers

Your Questions About How To Do Business Taxes Online

Susan asks…
How to file business and personal taxes jointly online?
I own a small business that is seasonal and I operate during the summer. During the winter I work a seasonal hourly job. What process should I use to I file taxes jointly online? What is the best service to use to use to do this in terms of ease of use and cost? I would like to get the maximum refund on my personal taxes while citing deductions from my small business.

Jere answers:
Is your business a sole proprietorship? If so, then you are self-employed in addition to your seasonal hourly job. There is no separate “business return.” Everything goes on your 1040 plus required schedules.

Carol asks…
Do the state and local sales taxes have to be the same number?
I am filing my retail business taxes online with the department of revenue and I figured out how much I made for the quarter so do I just put that same number into the state and local sales columns? I don’t understand, I know they are supposed to equal eachother out but is there a certain way to figure each of them out differently to where you get the same number or do you just add up everything you made for the quarter and put that number into both the state and local sales taxes, which is what I was going to do?

Jere answers:
Are you aware that there are 50 states in the US? Of them, 45 have a sales tax. Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States
Providing the state and local government names would be helpful. Also, the form number would help.
I hope this helps.

Nancy asks…
do i have to charge taxes for small business online?
i’m only sixteen, my mom and i are working on an online business,
we would sell beaded jewelry, tote bags and such that we handcraft.
i would use the paypal system for orders
would i need to charge sales tax?, if so, how do i know how much to charge?
are there any other legal issues that i should know before starting this business?
i was also thinking about accepting donations… all profit made through the website will go towards my college education.
thank you(:
i do not have a store, office, or anything of that sort, its just a home business, in CA… i dont have any employees or anything.
would i still have to charge taxes?

Jere answers:
If you start making over $5000 a year then I would look into taxes and such. If you start making money and you want to right off the cost of your business then you will have to. Depending also were you live you will also have to get a permit to sell in your state and then a Business license and tax ID from the Gov. There are places on line – google it
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/index.html
Cheers,

Sandy asks…
What is the best place to incorporate an online business that has 1 to 3 employees? I don’t like taxes!?
I am creating an online business. It looks like Wyoming or Nevada will be the best places to incorporate. I don’t know how much difference either will make. I want to pay as little in taxes as possible and have as little paperwork as possible and as few reports to the state as possible. Does anyone know the place to incorporate where all these ‘wants’ would be fulfilled?

Jere answers:
~~When we were checking it out Nevada was the cheapest as far as corporate taxes.
However where your employees live will determine what payroll taxes must be paid.
Here are my recommendations. For incorporating we used and loved www.smallbiz.com They have all states available and have live help via phone if you have questions. It was 1/4 the cost of anywhere I checked into, and I can’t believe how smooth and easy the paperwork went.
Check out www.intuit.com This company has payroll options available, for any state, all automated ,and many other features that will help with what you want. Both reputable companies, and you et your monies worth! This is the QuickBooks Company.
Good luck in your endeavor!~~

Donald asks…
How do I set up taxes for an online retail business?
Hi I’m currently in the process of starting an online retail business targeted at selling popular technology items to students at a local university. I will not have a physical store, as the items will be delivered directly to the student housing. However as I look for information about taxes, there doesn’t seem to be much information about taxation and certificates needed for online businesses. Since I’m selling stuff, I will need to charge sales tax. That makes me think I need to register the business as if it were an actual store. I’m just really confused about what forms and certificates I need to get to operate an online retail business. Any help would be appreciated. I’m located in Indiana if that helps at all.

Jere answers:
For sales tax issues, you need to contact the Secretary of State or Department of Revenue in the State you live in. They can tell you what types of certifications you may need and how to report your sales tax. As far as the IRS goes, you need to estimate what you think you annual earnings will be and make quarterly estimated tax payments. Whatever you do, keep excellent records of your income and expenses. Visit www.irs.gov for more details on estimated tax payments and small business help.

Are You Already Marketing On The Internet?
Take a moment to think about how you would really answer this question. If given enough thought just about any business owner who utilizes the Internet for any purpose will likely find that whether or not they intentionally organized an Internet marketing campaign, they may already be marketing their products and services on the Internet. This article will examine some subtle ways business owners may already be marketing their business on the Internet.
Do you have a website for your business? Business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their products or services online just by virtue of the fact that they have a website online. Having a live website means there is the potential for curious Internet users to access your website. You may not be actively promoting your website but you may still find that your website generates interest in your products despite the lack of promotional endeavors; this is a form of passive marketing.
Do you participate in message boards and include a link to your website in your signature? Again business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their website online. Savvy business owners realize the importance of participation in industry related message boards to create an interest in their products and services, establish themselves as knowledgeable about the industry and offer a link to their own website even if it is in the signature line of their posts. However, even business owners who do not realize this may already be inadvertently enjoying the benefits of Internet marketing which result from message board participation just by doing something they enjoy and may be doing as a form of leisure activity.
Do you include keywords which are relevant to your business in the content of your website? Business owners who answer yes to this question are also already marketing on the Internet by optimizing their website for these keywords. These search engine optimization (SEO) affects the websites whether or not they were even aware of the concept of keyword density and how it can help to SEO a website. Business owners will likely use certain words often depending on the type of products and services they offer just because it is natural and logical to do so. This tendency, however, can result in search engines boosting your website rankings for these particular keywords. The concept of SEO is much more involved and complex than simply using keywords frequently but business owners can gain some benefit just by naturally applying relevant keywords to their website.
Do you solicit feedback from your customers online? This is yet another example of how business owners may be accidentally marketing their business on the Internet. Most business owners realize the importance of soliciting feedback from customers for business purposes and business owners who offer products online might solicit feedback in the form of online surveys. Although the business owners may be doing this simply for a business purpose the fact that it is done online makes it fall into the category of Internet marketing.
We have already discussed several ways in which business owners may already be marketing online but what about business owners who want to have an increased online presence? Business owners who may already be marketing online accidentally may wish to launch a full scale Internet marketing campaign. The best way to do this is to hire a consultant with experience in Internet marketing to assist you in creating a campaign which is effective for your target audience.

Your Questions About Business Online Courses

John asks…
Where Can I Find Online Business Courses?
Hey All,
I’m wondering where I can find online business courses. I have training as a journalist, but my mother and I own a coffee company and I would like to have some background. I have no money right now to pay for courses, so I am interested in mainly free options, but any little bit helps!
Thanks in advance!

Jere answers:
There was a very similar question asked right before yours so let me post my answer:
If you just want to get an insight into certain areas, you may be able to find some good online sources for free but taking classes will cost you money. Even audit courses (the ones that are not for credit and they are designed for people like you who want to learn more) cost money. Real college classes at an accredited online university cost as much as they do at most brick and mortar universities.

Sounds condescending and full of oneself. Good to sell your best assets, not so good to overload text with a hoity toity “Look at me!” complex.
Determine up to five of your best selling points and work from there. You don’t need to ramble or put in a bunch of senseless nothing for filler. You’re off to a good start, but you need to tone down and edit.

Sounds more like an office ‘run-a-round’ to me
It’s got too much ‘flannel material’, designed to improve attraction of the position.
Note the plural ‘Immediate openingS available. Could be some RAPID expansion, though I doubt it or.
It could mean there’s a Big turnover in staff, meaning nobody likes working there.

Your Questions About Doing Business Online Btec

Laura asks…
What is BTEC and some details about it….please?
My boyfriend would like to start studying again but he only finished High school back in Turkey and doesn’t even have his transcripts here in UK. He would like to study English Language at uni but he doesn’t fulfill official requirements. On one of university’s website it says that other than A levels or international baccalaureate they accept people with BTEC National Diploma DMM…I’ve tried looking up on Edexcel website but I only got more confused…what is BTEC? How long would it take to get BTEC national Diploma? I understood DMM stands for their marking scheme…I read u can do it along A levels so Is it distance/online learning? How expensive would it be to get BTEC National Diploma? Can you do BTEC in English (as a subject) or you can choose business or health studies and get the national diploma and it will still be alright to apply for BA Honours in English Language? I’m so sorry for silly questions but I find it too confusing and really need help 🙂 I’ve done A levels in one of EU countries so didn’t have that problem and don’t know how to go around it now :-/ Thank you very much indeed!

Jere answers:
A BTEC is a course that is 100% coursework meaning that you don’t have to do any exams to pass it, all the work has to be typed up and handed in. It takes about 2 years to complete a BTEC National. No you can’t study English Literature as a BTEC National, you have to do GCSE English Language first and then do A Level English Language to be able to go to university. I have no idea, about how much it will cost to study a BTEC but I’m sure it would cost thousands of pounds to study it because you’re from overseas.

Carol asks…
How hard are A Levels?
I want to do an online course, and considering taking an A Level.
I’m 15 years old and doing my GCSE’s.
However, I’m predicted either an A, A* or distinction for all my subjects (I do GCSE Maths, Double Science, English/lit., R.E., ICT, History, Spanish and BTEC Business) and I’m taking GCSE Maths a year early and doing the Free Standing Maths Qualification in that period. Plus I’m doing an ICT course that gives me 2 GCSE and just finished the The BCS Digital Creator Award which is worth 1 GCSE. So I like to think of myself as quite smart for my age.
If I do choose to do an A Level, I’m willing to put in the effort; I’ve got quite a lot of free time even with my school work.
I’m thinking about taking A Level Sociology, specifically. Is that too hard? Should I do a GCSE course instead?

Jere answers:
If you’re predicted an A/A* I think you can handle A Levels, especially Sociology it’s not too hard of a subject.

Lisa asks…
Can someone please make this a little more cohearent?
I am currently studying a Business BTEC level 3. On this course I have to do a dumber of assighnments and compleat ethem to deadlines. I am 18 and want to make extra income whilst also learning about marketing through this mystory shopping opertunity. I spend a lot of time online buying and selling on ebay. I am flexible being a student and have a summer where I could do a lot of work for you. I enjoy any aspect of business and am really interested in learning as much as I can about the retail and marketing side of things.
I am also interested in art and I enjoy creating detailed sketches and water colours. I have also studyed some construction and gained cards like a CSCS card which shows I have common schence when it comes to what to do in certain situations
I really would love to do some mystery shopping as a learning opertunity and to help benifit retail stores especialy in this current econemy.
Is it grammatical ok

Jere answers:
*coherent *number *assignments *complete *them *opportunity *studied *sense *opportunity *benefit *especially *economy
There you go!

Sandra asks…
Im not to sure, if this is is okay about the Ryan-air line?
Well i’ve applied for Ryan-air online application form and i just have received an email from them asking for my CV and a picture and they have also invited me for the presentation on 29 December.
Problem is that i haven’t done any courses of travel and tourism but i have passed my BTEC Business Course and i have informed them about this but they haven’t said nothing, so im so confused if i should go for it or not.
???
Oh Sorry i meant Ryanair…

Jere answers:
Firstly they are called Ryanair, if you are to stand any chance of getting a job with them, its a good idea to know the right company name.
Secondly, you sent them a CV for a job, your CV obviously meets there criteria otherwise they would not invite you to an open day.

Helen asks…
urgent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
do you think i should leave college and just do online learn direct course. i am doing btec travel and tourism level 3 and there are courses in business in the learn direct website. i want to do something in businesss in future.please help me decide the best way to gain qualifications. i am willing to do hard work at kome if i haven’t got lessons to go to!!!!!!!!!! by the way i am 18 an it my first year in the course

Jere answers:
If you have the opportunity of doing the course you want , at college then I suggest you should really stick to that.
During any learning it is always good to get differing approaches and points of view as this will give you a more rounded education
Also not all the benefits of college are the education !! There is also the social side which can add to your life
Yes by all means back up what you learn at college on the Internet , library etc. But keep attending classes
Good Luck

Tracking the Results of Internet Marketing
As with any marketing campaign you may run to assist your business, it is important to track the results of your Internet marketing campaign. This should be done on a continual basis so you can ensure the strategies you are utilizing are working. It can also help you to determine when a strategy is not working so you do not continue to invest time and money on a strategy which is not beneficial to your business. This article will discuss some of the options for tracking the results of your Internet marketing campaign.
Business owners who use banner ads have a simple way to track whether or not their banner ads are effective. This is possible because they can place code in the banner ad which will supply them with feedback each time a user clicks on the banner ad. This information is transmitted to the business owner so he can evaluate which of his banner ads are generating the most interest. If the business owner is currently using two different styles of banner ads on comparable websites he can use this information to determine which design is most effective. This is important because if one style is significantly more effective than the other it might be worthwhile to convert all of the banner ads to this style or to make changes which will make the two different styles more similar.
If the business owner is using the same banner ad on a number of different websites, the feedback can help him determine which websites are generating the most traffic for him. If he determines some websites are not generating a great deal of traffic it makes sense to discontinue the banner ads on these websites as they are not cost effective.
Business owners who utilize affiliate marketing during their Internet marketing campaign may also be interested in tracking the results of their affiliates. This is necessary because affiliates are often paid according to the results they generate but it is also useful for determining which affiliates are most successful. This information can be useful if different ads are running on different affiliate websites because it can be an indication of which websites are most effective. Tracking the results of affiliate marketing is similar to tracking the results of banner ads. You can place code in the ads which appear on the affiliates website to provide you with feedback each time a user clicks on the ad.
Another way to evaluate the results of an Internet marketing campaign is to simply closely monitor your own website traffic and sales. This is especially important when it is done in consideration with the type of marketing you are currently running. For example if you launch a new banner ad campaign with ads appearing on numerous high profile websites concurrently, you may notice an almost immediate increase in website traffic and sales. This information most likely indicates the banner ads are successful.
However, the problem with using this type of evaluation is it does not pinpoint successes or failures. If you launch your banner ad on five different websites at once you may notice an immediate increase in traffic and sales but will not be aware which websites are the most effective. For example, your advertisement may be running on five different websites but only one of these websites may be attracting attention for your business. Similarly if you are running several different styles of ads, some styles may attract more attention than others but you will not be able to differentiate simply by evaluating your website traffic and sales. The other four may only be generating minimal interest in your products or services. If you wish to use this method for evaluating the feedback on your Internet marketing efforts, it is worthwhile to only make one change at a time so you can more accurately determine what is working and what is not. Alternatively you can ask customers to fill out a survey stating where they saw your advertisement so you can solicit feedback on your marketing efforts.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Strategies

Donna asks…
What are the best internet marketing strategies?

Jere answers:
The best internet marketing strategy is to build a list. Building a list starts from offering freebies that would help the community. This will help you build a relationship with the potential customers making them subscribed to your opt ins for free materials that they can use.
If you are set up already with a list of customer emails and contacts you can then start selling products to them. In that way, they will trust you and you can get sales out of your list. If we say you have a list with thousands of subscribers, I’m sure not all of them will buy but most of them will. Even with a percentage of all subscribers is good enough to get sales.
Building a contact list is same as building a good relationship with your potential customers. One way of earning trust from the customers is by providing them useful resources for free. Giving those free materials and even products will strengthen your buyer-seller relationship and will give them the reason to continue subscribing for your products. As you are building your contact list you are also converting these numbers into sales as they will become your permanent customers.

How can i sell my goods online too. Do i need to consult any internet marketing strategy consulting firm? Is that affordable?

Jere answers:
I would suggest starting off with ebay.com first. It is relatively easy to set up and very cost effective. You can also start your own store own ebay and have customers shop your store on ebay, and already have a large market for your product. I would definetly recommend that you research ebay first and maybe give it a try first. At lot of people use ebay to start and continue their business online even when they maintain there own website due to the fact that so many people already shop there and its a new way to build clients.
Consider looking at a few of their tutorials.
