My browsing is sort of fast, but my upload speeds are dead slow.?

My temporary roommate just moved out of my house (finally!), and we was running on a router with cable modem just fine with fast speeds. Before that, we were having troubles and we found out it was ip address conflictions (we both were trying to take the same ip address or something).

So now he is gone, he took his router, now im connected straight to the modem (motorola kind). Finally took a while to speed up (sometimes it wouldn’t connect at all), but most sites will run fine, others will take super slow. I can’t even upload nothing on my online project management system for my web design business. Everytime I upload, it just times out. When i get on the computer at school and try, works fine. If you think its something dealing with ip addesses again or something, please let me know..

Getting out of a Cell Contract?

I’m the type of guy who wants the latest and greatest in Tech.

I recently (just came back) had the chance to get the Motorola Atrix. Last night, I sat down, finding EVERY possible way to get out of the contract.
I found the following:

1. Cry your way out. Find an excuse, grab some proof, be polite, You’ll be out.
2. Get dropped calls. Document places where your calls get dropped. The contract states that they will provide you with service if you pay in a timely fashion. Just keep getting your calls dropped, and call them as a complaint. They’ll be able to see all the dropped calls and should be able to terminate your contract with no ETF.
3. This is probably the one in where the law is truly on your side, but I don’t understand too well.

Number 3:
I came back from speaking to a cellphone network (Bell) representative. I told him that I can’t hold on to a phone for 3 years, he told me he understands, and tried to persuade me AWAY from the sale, so that I don’t just waste money like that.
He put me, the customer, first, and ahead of his paycheck.

What I asked was, What if Bell changed anything on their end? What if they increased a 411 fee or some kind of fee, that I was subject to. I never signed for that contract, I signed for the contract that I signed, and Bell would not be honoring that agreement.

However, he replied:
“I see where you’re coming from, however, the company will try to screw you over, you can’t screw them”
“They will increase the price of a fee, but will not put it between you, your contract, and themselves”
“They do know that they will lose business if they change anything, so when they change it, they change it for people who are signing a new contract and not ones that already are on contract”

For example, let’s say you got an iPhone 4, and your current rate fee for 411 calls is @ $0.99, and in a year, they change it to $1.99. They will try to make sure that the change will not affect you.

I came up with other ways that I could be making money from their business, for example, let’s use the Sony Ericsson Arc as an example.

Let’s assume the cost without a contract is @ $699.99
You buy the phone for $179.99 with contract.

In a month, making sure you keep the phone unopened, you cancel the contract, and pay an ETF (max $500 in this case). That way, you’re out of contract and you can sell the Arc online for $600.

You just made $100…. Is this possible? Can you open up 10 contracts and do this?

So review: Question on how getting out of contract with number 3 will work, and if buying/selling phone is a feasible idea!

On the heels of another defeat for national reform of illegal immigration policies, Georgia’s own response went into effect Sunday.
Senate Bill 529, adopted with much debate and fanfare a year ago, is slated to slowly start adding new requirements for verifying workers’ citizenship status and cracking down on those who prey on illegal immigrants.
Although Georgia received national attention for being the first state to move ahead on its own while Congress remained deadlocked on illegal immigration, SB 529 actually makes few sweeping changes initially.
Beginning Monday, large companies wanting to do business with local or state government agencies had to show they have registered to use the federal Employment Eligibility Verification Program, an online database run by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Also known as the Basic Pilot Program, the check is free for employers who will be required to check the status of any new workers hired after last Sunday and see if their Social Security numbers are valid.
During this first year SB 529 is in effect, only companies with 500 employees or more will be made to participate if they want to bid on government contracts in Georgia.
As it gets phased in, all contractors and subcontractors working with the state or local governments will be required to enroll after July of 2009.
The Georgia Department of Labor recently released how it will implement the verification rules, but Commissioner Michael Thurmond said there has been little response from the contracting and building communities which have been preparing for the new law.
“Many have already participated voluntarily, especially the larger employers, which will be this first group,” Thurmond said.
More than 500 Georgia companies already are participating in the verification system, based on a recent check.
Thurmond said some questions still remain about the new law’s verification requirements, including whether major companies based outside the state will have to comply if they have fewer than 500 workers in Georgia now. Thurmond said he would not be surprised if legislators revisit it to add more measures on the enforcement end of the law.
“The legislation didn’t speak to that particular aspect of it,” he said. “We proposed a system of random audits, but that was not funded. Hopefully, in the future, that will be.”

careers for idiots?

I’m 47, single, living with my mom, and am about $15000 in debt, not including credit cards. I graduated high school in ’77, started at University of Houston, got sideswiped by a car while on my motorcycle, returned to college in ’82 after doing odd jobs, and declared Finance my major. I tried for several years to get into Investments but couldn’t understand why I was turned down repeatedly. I finally landed a job in a commercial bank in ’84. The bank then laid me off in early ’85 (oil bust) and I felt screwed.. I didn’t know that sometimes the good guys get the axe. And other banks that had hired my coworkers wouldn’t even consider me! I tried to get special considerations from the dean of Finance in ’85 (some of my my classmates had gotten similar favors), and was turned down by the dean. Seeing the economy going south I quit school again. After all, my education hadn’t prevented me from getting dumped. I went through an extended period of unemployment, tried to start a business in ’88, and finally landed in telemarketing in ’89. More low-level jobs followed and then I got what I thought was the break. I had a chance to return to college and get a BS Social Science plus a CIW certification. Now I was set to become a computer programmer. After all, I had a degree plus training in Java, HTML, Perl, PHP, Javascript, ASP!! I was no longer going to be the failure that I had become. I went to the local WorkSource meetings, registered with about 100+ agencies, looked online, scoured buildings in my area, talked to every one I knew, redid my resume a dozen times, attended a job search workshop, and did every thing you are supposed to do to find a job. About four miserable years later my mom and I were on food stamps, had about $4 in the bank, no major assets, no jobs forthcoming, and thoughts of just ending it. I couldn’t figure it out because this time I had done it right.

I had completed my education and times were supposed to get better. Suddenly a little company in my neighborhood hired me for $7.50 an hour to do customer service over the phone. I bought some new underwear for myself that Christmas, started putting money in the bank, and even got promoted to Help desk at $8.50 an hour. But, alas, the manager at this little office started purposefully cutting my hours and such to make me quit. I took it for a while but my dignity got in the way. I told him I was out of there and went home to continue my job search that had begun several months earlier when I noticed things getting bad. I have looked at positions (again!) such as finance clerk, customer service rep, junior economist (social science degree), Web assistant, computer operator, etc. Once again it seems as though nobody really cares or appreciates what I have done or can do. Now, 3 months later, my mom are still on food stamps, I have $277 in the bank, and no jobs forthcoming. We’re once again living off of her social security and her part-time job. I really like the areas of Investments, Entrepreneur, and Computers. I hate customers service and waiting on people. Where do I go from here? Thanks.

Is opening an online business hard?

Right now, my best friend and I want to go into an online business. We just made this decision last month. We are currently in the planning stage of what online business to get into.

Can you share some advices if you are in the online business? Is $30,000-40,000 enough? More then enugh? Too short?

How can I share files online?

I am setting up a small business with 4 guys. We want to put and access files online, just like a company intranet (because we’re not all in the same location). What I’d like to do is be able to create a folder with a directory structure, and “easily” upload any type of file there (with some password security), and let the other guys access, modify, upload, etc. files as well.

Google Docs is ok, but I can’t upload picture files, etc. And I find Google Docs and Spreadsheets to be less powerful than Word.

Best case scenario is that i can simply double-click the files and open them directly, modify them, and close them/save them. Kind of like they’re located on a company server.

… oh, and I want it to be free.

Google Docs is close, and we’ll use that for now. But when you save files there (.docx, .pdf, etc), they’re converted to Google’s internal representation. I want them to be saved as the original format.

I was just wondering if any of you knew if that google biz kit was real or just a scam it says you only have to pay for shipping but i was just wondering if there is more to it.

Our 8-year high school reunion is coming up. Should I show off to the girls that dissed me?

It’s been 8 years since our senior year in high school. We’re about to have a reunion in a couple weeks.

I was somewhat nerdy and skinny in high school, and used to try to talk to a couple of the “pretty” girls and they’d lift their noses at me like I was worthless. Pretty mean girls.

About 5 of the girls I remember that were rude and stuck-up to me are going to be there. I checked their MySpace pages, and 3 of them are overweight. 4 out of 5 of them work shitty jobs… one changes dirty diapers at a day care center, another bags groceries at the supermarket, one is a waitress, another one is a golddigger that jumps from guy to guy and doesn’t work. The one with a decent job is some kinda of data technician at a hospital.

I graduated from Standford and now hold a good position with a Singapore-based investment firm, and make over $150,000 a year, and plan on adding about $30,000 more to that income with this online business I just started. I live in a wealthy neighborhood as well. I also am no longer skinny as I have worked out ever since I got out of high school, and have a cut physique like a swimmer, and I date a girl that models for Ed Hardy. I drive a 2008 E350 Mercedes as well.

I ordered a book from Borders online. They gave me a purchase and confirmation email the next day. Written in the report is a part which says: International standard delivery (DHL), 7-21 business days, along with a weird dhl tracking number that goes like this: #000000000. When i followed the link attached to the tracking number, the tracking program in the DHL site goes into an error saying the number does not exist.

Self-employed – Do I have to file federal taxes?

I just started a computer repair business (Federal EIN given on 2/17/2011). I do business in only one county in NYS (Schenectady County), where sales tax is 8%. I just went online to www.tax.ny.gov and paid the 8% of my sales/service income. Apparently the form is called ST-100 and can only be filled out online.

Now I want to be sure to take care of the federal tax requirements (IRS).

To start up the business, I invested in advertising on 3/17/2011 which exceeded my income for the NYS filing period of 3/1/2011 – 5/31/2011. Do I need to fill out the estimated tax (1040-ES) form with the IRS considering I had a net loss? I expect to spend more on advertising and post another net loss next quarter.

FYI, I already visited http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=115045,00.html and it was somewhat confusing.

I am a manager who works in a Hotel witch contains a restaurant. One of our employees has recently brought us a letter from their church pastor saying we have to give them Sunday’s off and it’s our legal responsibility to.

I have looked online and noticed that my type of business is “exempt” from these types of rules, but I would like to get the opinion of someone who is familiar with the Canadian regulations regarding this.

This person was informed when they were hired that they would be required to work Sundays, since this we have told them they would be able to have 1 Sunday off/month and they generally only work evenings, giving them a chance to attend their services in the mornings.

How can obama change anything when he cant even give strait forward answers?

A few days back I sent Obama an email not only making a statement but also asking a question. He talks about his plan to make more jobs for Americans. My question to him is how does he plan to do that when 99% of jobs require a GED or high school diploma. Here in Georgia it costs 99$ to take the GED test and 25$ for every test that has to be retaken. So if you cant get a job without a GED or high school diploma then how is someone like myself suppose to pay to take the GED test so I am able to get a job. I thought education was suppose to be free. Okay, so I am a freshman student at UC Davis, and I have just recently turned 18 years old. I went online to register for the draft at sss.gov, and once I completed the form, it said that I had already submitted a registration form six days prior to my 18th birthday. I had not done so, however, and it is not possible for me since I wasn’t 18 at the time.

1) You are a manager of a department in your company…Let’s say the marketing department.
– You’ve been with the company for 9 years
– You are a very skilled, competent, and accomplished manager
– You have 3 people reporting under you and they do a very good job
– You structure your schedule fairly and within company guidelines and policies

2) You have a boss, who all of a sudden, won’t let you manage your direct reports.
– He sets special rules and preferential treatments to all of them.
– He even let’s employees from other departments give them projects without your knowledge or consent considering your are their boss
– Your boss shoots down a lot of your ideas and proposals which are beneficial and profitable to the company without explanation, and/or a logical explanation at that.
– He tells you that it is not such a bad idea for your assistants to be managed by other people as to relieve you of pressures from being a manager who has a lot on her plate.

Now, from my perception, this sounds like the boss is the marketing manager’s authority. By definition, undermining your authority is the process of weakening one’s position or power for their own personal benefit, especially at the marketing manager’s expense.

Again, I believe this is discrimination and undermining of one’s authority to fulfill their responsibility that comes with the marketing manager’s position.

I’m twenty-three years of age and suffer from urinary incontinence, which results in me having to rely on wearing diapers twenty-four/seven. Because of society’s negative stigma towards needing diapers and because it is just not normal for people my age to wear them, sometimes I feel alone no matter how much support I receive from my family and friends. I was a part of two of them: but, they have somewhat gone downhill. In its simplest terms, a business model is a unique framework that a company uses to create value. A business entity exists to fulfil its purpose(s) and how they define “value” is unique to them. A commercial business may exist solely to generate profit whilst a non-profit organisation may exist to create social or other value. A business model ultimately answers the question of “how does the business survive and how does it achieve its purpose?” It does NOT describe the internal actors, relations or processes of an organisation, but rather describes the logic behind its operation.

Some business models are fairly simple whilst others are intricately woven. For instance, a newspaper seller on the street makes a profit in a very basic way, whilst the way in which the BBC broadcasts the news is incomparably more complicated. Not considering levels of complexity, all business models that exist consist of four main components and we wish to discuss these with particular relevance to EasyJet. These are summarised below but will be discussed in greater detail:

So I am 13 years old, an 8th grader, and last year I started taking community college classes on the evenings and weekends. Well, I’m really liking it, and I really think I can head somewhere with it, so I will be going to an online high school next year so I can take the classes full-time. My goal is to transfer to a uni and get a Bachelor’s before I finish high school.

1) Is there a limit on how many units a minor/high school student can take at a community college? How about a university?

American School of Corr – Required courses/electives for College Prep HELP!?

So I enrolled with the American School of Corr – College Prepatory Program. So considering in all of the information about the school it always said over 70 courses to from in science, math, english, social studies, and electives. So I just kind of thought that you could pick your courses.
You have to have 18 units to graduate, so I figured 4 credis in math, english, social studies, science, etc but I figured you could you know choose what courses to have. Only to find out there are 15 required courses, 3 electives to chosse 1 of which one must be a science elective.
The 15 required courses for College Prep are:
Writing 1
Psychology
Physiology and Health
Essential Mathematics 1
Writing 2 (1-4) (1/2) Unit course.
Understanding English 2 (5-8) (1/2) Unit Course.
United States History
Planning your Career
Biology (lab or non lab with fee.)
Essential Mathematics 2
American Literature
British Literature
Social Civics
Algebra 1
Geometry
Science Elective
Two other electives such as, art, photography, foreign language, business law, journalism, etc.

This is what it said in the packet I got when I requested more information about the school. But once I enrolled and got my first shipment they said another 15 required courses and they are different not much just : Plane Geometry and Build your Writing Skills 1 and Understanding English 2. There is no “writing” course.

Anyways I wanted to take for math: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Trig and Calculus which they only offer online. They offer all those courses and said that you could switch math so instead of Essential Maths 1 and two I could switch for Calculus and Algebra 2. They said that was the *usual* sequence of math courses so I’m assuming that means that I could contact the school and change the math?

So I think math will be okay, and they have 4 years of Social Studies and English – Build your Writing Skills 1, Understanding English 2, American Literature and British Literature. And for social studies they have Psychology, Planning your career, U.S. History and Social Civics (Government.)
So English and social studies are both fine for all four years. And I’m pretty sure math will be okay just have to contact them and tell them to change it up a bit and the way they had it worded I think they will let me. (It had all the 15 required courses and then it had Essential Math 1 and 2, Algebra 1 and Plane Geometry with * by all the math courses and then it said “This is the usual sequence of Math courses.) And they have all those other math courses so I’m assuming you can switch them?

My problem is science, I need four years of science. I want to take Biology, Chemistry and Physics and whatever else is usually done. On the 15 required courses they have Biology which is required which is fine, and then they have Physiology and Health which is required and is obviously a science course. And that’s it. Then they said choose one science elective and for science they have: Biology (lab or no lab, Chemistry (lab or no lab, Physics, Physiology and Health, Science General, Science Earth and Science Physical.
So obviously for my science elective I could choose either physics or chemistry (whichever comes first) I don’t think I need any of the General, earth and physical science, do I?
And that’s only 3 years of science though and I need four. I still would have two electives left thus I could use one of my electives for either physics or chemistry. And then I would have all four years of science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Physiology and Health.

And that gives me one elective left with which I would choose Spanish 1. BUT I was hoping to use both electives for Spanish 1 AND 2 instead I have to use one for science. Because I was under the impression that colleges required at LEAST 2 years of a foreign language? I’m only going to have one year due to using my other elective for science because I HAVE to have four years of science.

So my questions: Do most colleges require 2 years of foreign language? I can’t find it on there website, it’s not a very hard to get into university I think.
Do I need General, earth or physical science? Or would the biology, chemistry, physics and physicology and health be okay?
And do you think I could use the other elective on science? Would they let me?
Does it sound like they will let me switch math courses up? I would still be taking the required ones.
On the elective page they sent me they don’t give any option to change it and they don’t have any thing about calculus (online) So I have to call them obviously. Do you think they will let me? It sounded like it to me? I mean they have all the math courses t

What should I major in to finish my degree?

In 1994, I left college, but was still allowed to go through graduation ceremonies, some hours short of completion. Now that I see it, I have basically 30 hours or a full year of undergrad left. I really wrangled my way into the line for grad. Naturally I never got a diploma for my empty folder. But, my whole family thought I had graduated.

I have worked as a freelance writer, holding myself out as having a degree in English. I got 2 books published 4 and 8 years ago, I have published articles, blogs and business and grant proposals. I have done mission trips and ministry work with my writing, and am up for a major journalism fellowship (I did not pretend to have a degree on that application). Lately, I have felt very guilty about pretending to have a degree when I don’t.

Due to serious illness in our family, the construction and publishing markets (my husband’s and my work) and a variety of other factors I’m not going to detail here, our family is on welfare right now. As a bit of background, I have not been offered a full time job in five years in spite of my best efforts. I get part time jobs easily and freelance writing jobs easily — they just don’t pay enough for us to pay our bills. My husband (who remodels houses but doesn’t charge near enough to support us) and I have to cooperate with the job placement plan in order to keep getting welfare. It’s not that the few hundred dollars is such a big deal, but under the program, and since I don’t have outstanding student loans, I can go back to school and finish my degree with distance learning through a university about 40 miles from here. I can take online classes or some classes at a center in my town. It will actually take about 2 years because I have to earn 45 hours at this new school to graduate from it. This program offers adult learners courses at the upper undergrad levels and counts whatever coursework you’ve done to meet the core education requirements. You have to have completed 60 hours to get in and I’ve completed 98.

Here are possible majors available to me:

1. English. Pro: it was already my major and I have a lot of work done in it. Con: I don’t see how it will get me farther than I am now. I’m already a published author and journalist and not making enough money at it. I can already get hired for writing jobs based on my talent — not to brag, it’s just a fact.

2. Psychology — Pro: I like people and helping others. Con: I have absolutely no hours in psychology right now and would have to start with Psych 101. Like all of these, I have the educational core done, but would have to take a bunch of psych and other social science courses.

3. Business administration. I do have nonprofit experience but my lack of degree has kept me from ever getting a job with it. I have no interest in business courses, I’m bad at math, possibly too chaotic for accounting, but I would make more money I think.

4. Teaching certification — I would go for secondary English. Pro: very easy for me to finish up and possibly steady work that I’d enjoy. Con: Our local school district cut a bunch of teachers this year and I don’t want to uproot the kids. I quit the teaching unit when I was at uni before because I didn’t think I would be the best teacher.

5. organizational management — like bus admin but less accounting and other drudgery. Might help me grow my writing business or get a job with a cool organization.
