Since the internet is not regulated by any one state or country a business license is not required to have a exclusively internet based business, however many people who run internet based businesses will get a license to apply for a DBA which will give them access to many services only available to businesses most importantly the ability to setup their own merchant account and take credit cards payments without the use of third parties. Still others might setup S-Corps or an LLC simply for the tax benefits when they start making a decent amount of money through their business. The choice is really yours if you want to get a business license.

Be careful – it sounds like you are getting into spamming, in which case you’ll end up with a lot of irritated people, a rotten reputation and no business. How do other similar businesses in your area operate? Advertising in papers, magazines, flyers with menus and prices delivered to potential customers? Ultimately word-of-mouth recommendations are the best.

What happens when you can’t pay your small business loan?
I am looking to form an LLC to buy an existing business. I am looking to secure a loan. My biggest fear, as anyone’s would be, if the business fails, what happens to the loan? Its a retail business so there will be assets that can be sold but what if its not enough? can they come after my personal assets? Even if they are not put up as collatteral? also, will my personal credit history be ruined if my LLC goes bankrupt and defaults on a loan?

A true business credit card is a line of credit that is taken in the name of the business, under the business’ credit. Activity, whether good or bad, is reflected on your business’ credit report through D&B and other financial institutions, and the liability for any debts incurred and bills owed is with the business.
However, some companies out there offer “business” credit cards which they require a person guarantee for. These institutions will often ask for a personal guarantee, and will almost always ask for a social security number from the person applying for the card. If this is the case, the credit card is not a business credit card, but is simply a personal credit card which is used for the business. The business is not liable for bills and debts – you are.
When applying for a credit card for your business, watch out for areas asking for your SSN (and not your TaxID or EIN) and be wary of any credit card that asks for a personal guarantee. By ensuring that your credit card is in the name of your business, you can help to build your business’ credit, while avoiding creating problems with your own.
Many companies offer a list of credit cards that are issued under the business name only. Those lists typically run $300-$900, depending on the quality of the information inquiring. I would suggest starting your search online via google or yahoo. Search for “strong business credit” (just like that in quotes) to find services that sell the information.

Hey,
(Bare with me on this one, I’ll answer your questions and share some damn good techniques)
I own my own marketing company and have been involved in the internet industry for a long time now so am quite clued up/experienced in pretty much all forms of web promotion and marketing.
The answer to the question is your profit depends on what you’re selling, how well your selling it and who to. Social network advertising can see you reap profits or sew losses due to high advertising costs and low conversions, but they are fantastic sources for traffic!!
The reason social network advertising is so effective is that they are places where countless amounts of millions of people go on a daily basis, like everyone watching MTV at the same time, it’s maximum exposure for your brand services. The other major benefit of advertising on social networking sites is that you can highly target the ads you place there.
Rather than traditional advertising, which will be viewed by a random audience, advertisers can use these networks to target their ads at a very specific audience; you can target it in many ways such as geographic location, sex, age range, gender, single, married etc.
This way the adds are most successful and if it is an online business/service you’re promoting then it’s a good idea if you use these services, although be warned, it can be very expensive (Depending on the size and popularity of the network).
They generally run off what’s called a CPM system (Cost per thousand impressions). This means that for every time your advert pops up on a web page it’s classed as one impression, for every time it reaches 1000 impressions the site will charge you the CPM premium (Again the cost will depend on the size and popularity of the network).
This can be a very costly approach if you are a small business as most of the major web 2.0 sites have so many members thus having many millions of pages for your advert to pop up on, they also generally have a minimum spend which can be quite high (Facebook currently has a $50,000 monthly minimum investment for add banners).
I’d look at starting a page/fake profile on the social networks and drive the traffic to your site, it’s called SMO (Social media optimization) and it works a f*****g treat, believe you me!!
I am a keen user of social networks and have utilized their power for my own SEO and revenue generating benefit. Create a fake profile and invite as many of your target audience as you can, you’ll be surprised how many people will accept the request!
You can do this very well on sites like Facebook using their ‘Groups’ feature. If you’re selling games consoles, for example, do a search within the social network for ‘PS3/Xbox 360/Play Station’ etc and then click on the ‘Groups’ tab to seclude the results to groups only. Have a look at the groups that you’re left with.
The members of these groups, often hundreds of thousands, are the people who you know know that are interested in your product/niche. Go through the members and request a ton of them to be your friends, this is called building a list and is where most online services make over half of their sales (Using backend sales).
All you need to do then is create a group of your own about your service/product (The name of the group needs to be eye catching and inventive), in your fake profile, then invite all of your ‘Friends list’ (Prospective buyers) to the group (When I say friends list, by the way, I’m talking about 2,000+ friends in your list, send as many friends requests as you possibly can).
This will then trigger a viral reaction in the form of ‘the butterfly effect’ and spread your brand/service/website through the network where the members view your site through a third party referral (The group invitation).
Referrals from a third party (the friend who invited them to your group) or an expert in the field is always trusted by prospectives as they have no reason to lie.
There are three main objectives here:
1- To drive targeted traffic to your site
2- Create brand awareness for your website, free of charge
And the most important part
3- To get high PR/authority links back to your site (Bookmark the pages where you’ve left these backlinks, it will only increase the authority of the page that is pointing back to your site)

You don’t need to advertise in social networks, if you’re willing to put some effort in you’ll reap the rewards, trust me. Utilize web 2.0 to work for you; use sites such as Squidoo, YouTube, Blogger, WordPress to name just a few and cover the internet with your content rather than spending on one add in one social network.
A little heads up if you do decide to use social networking advertising- Add banners are pretty much the worst form of web promotion, the CTR (Click through rate) is very low and not very cost effective at all, look for another form of advertising withing the network. HOT TIP: Text link ads are far more effective than premium banner ads!
If you are looking for a unique social network to advertise on I’d advise you to keep an eye out for the ‘Global Covenant’, a massive new UK project that has totally redesigned the social networking concept, a welcomed evolution of social networking; even the BBC and Sky are involved inside the project. Pretty exciting stuff!!

The best (and incidentally cheapest) way of reaching students is through facebook. Create a group on facebook related to your service, include information about your service and send it to every student that you know on your facebook account. It’ll spread to more people than you can imagine. Quicker than in any other time in history.
You’re lucky. Social Networks are the quickest way to send spread information in history to date and your target clients are the largest users of Social Networks. It’s a golden opportunity.

If I want to run multiple businesses using them as dba’s under the parent company, what do I need to do?
In other words, I want to run several companies. Do I need to file each one seperately or can I group them all under one name and give the other companies dba’s?
Jere answers:
The best thing to do would be to file the parent company first. You probably want to set this up as an LLC, or a Limited Liability Company so that your personal assets aren’t tied to the company.
Once you have your main LLC, you can literally set up as many DBAs as you want for the individual company branches. Keep in mind that everything will still be one company with this model. If you file an LLC for Tom’s Baking Supplies and then a DBA for Tom’s Crusts, another DBA for Tom’s Fillings and one for Tom’s Toppings, they are all still one company. And under that model, if Tom’s Toppings started losing money, that money would come from Tom’s Baking Supplies, LLC.
But the nice thing about DBAs is that if you have good business models and cash flow, you can certainly brand individual services or products under individual company names. I have a client that I work with who does construction. He has one LLC, but separate DBAs for his framing business, his roofing business and his home remodeling business. This works great for him because he can focus marketing materials on each business segment with a company name, logo, website etc. That is specific to each of those different lines of work.
There are several online resources for filing incorporations and DBAs. You will need to file the Incorporation first, before the DBAs. Depending on your state, that can take a few days or a few weeks. Www.clickandinc.com and www.dba-filings.com can walk you through the process and charge very reasonable rates. They also have good customer service and live support during the day to answer any questions.
You can also file DBAs without having a corporation behind them, but then they are tied to you as an individual and sole proprietor. Under this model, your personal financial assets WOULD be directly tied to your company, and all income would have to be taxed as self-employment income. This works great for people that have a consulting business and don’t want to put their social security number on tax forms (a personal DBA allows you to use a Federal Tax ID Number). It’s not as safe a bet for people that run businesses with employees.

I am working part time as an independent customer service rep. I am classified as a business owner as per Canada Revenue. Since I am working part time, can I deduct the full amount of my phone and internet from my taxes or can I only deduct a portion? I work from home about 4 hours a day.

Got to read the fine print from Canada Revenue. In the US, such shared resources would only be partly deductible, and you might need to produce documentation (log books, etc) to justify the deduction.
Rules in Canada may differ, but I’d be surprised if they made it too easy.

How can I get Windstream to disconnect my phone and internet service?
I closed my business on February 8, 2011. I have been trying since that date to get Windstream to disconnect phone and internet service.
They asked me to send them a letter on company letterhead asking that the service be disconnected since they cannot accept a phone call asking that it be turned off. I informed them that I did not have company letterhead, so they said I could simply send an e-mail to them from my listed e-mail address and that would work. I sent the e-mail and received no response.
I called my rep and asked for help. She called the company and asked that service be disconnected. They did not respond.
My Rep also asked me to send a letter to them. I did send the letter and received no response.
I received a call from Windstream asking for payment and I explained that the business was closed and that service needs to be disconnected and that I did not owe them a balance. They said I needed to send an e-mail to them. I did. That e-mail did not get a response.
I was again contacted by them and was told I needed to write on my invoice that I wanted service disconnected. I did send the invoice with notations about disconnecting service and that did not get any response except to get another bill.
The latest bill now totals almost $1,200 that I do not owe. The business is closed for three months and I cannot seem to get them to stop service. Any suggestions? I have jumped through every hoop they tossed at me with no responses. It should not be this difficult to get service turned off.
Any help would be grateful.

Do you really need that 2nd number? If not, cancel it.
The phone company usually has a package deal if you get multiple services from them at once – like phone, DSL (internet) and even TV (usually repackaged satellite service.) However they usually just pitch you a low initial price for the first 2-12 months. After that, the prices go up.
However, in many cases, you can renegotiate your prices just by asking the customer service rep. On the phone. Companies would rather keep you as a customer, even if it means giving you a slightly lower price.

I am having the same exact problem, but not just with craigslist, with everywhere! Not one single e-mail back except for scams and not one call. No one even wants to interview me. Craigslist sucks because they don’t usually list what company it is and they use that anonymous email service so there is no way to follow up with them. The website appears legit. You may actually get a good car that you can pay to repair and still be ahead.
However, four warnings:
First, most such cars go to a body shop that specializes in fixing wrecks and reselling them. They will be able to fix them cheaper than you can, and will out bid you. If you outbid them, and then pay retail for the fixes, you will loose.
Second, you have no idea how much it will cost to repair the car, as you have no experience doing this. It is possible that you can buy a drivable car that has only cosmetic damage cheaply enough that you won’t mind driving a wrecked car, since a lot of older cars get totaled by relatively minor cosmetic damage. If you are looking for a really cheap driver, and you don’t mind a crunched fender or two, check out the site.
Third, if the car is mechanically sound but crunched, you will be bidding against salvage yards that can sell the engine, the transmission, air conditioning compressor, transfer case, glass, etc. In many cases, a wrecked car has parts value several times what it is worth as a transportation vehicle.
Fourth, and final, keep in mind that the car you get will have a “Salvage” title, making it very difficult to sell in the future, even after it has been fixed up.
So, if you plan to drive the car in to the ground, and don’t mind a bent car, you may find a real bargain. But, forget buying one and fixing it up. You will be for big trouble.

At the college I have attended financial aid does count for on line classes. Start with FASFA and get a pin number and get it emailed to you it will come in three days (DONT LOOSE IT, you will need it for life) and after that fill out your FASFA. And at the end it will tell you your EFC which is what they say you can afford to pay in one year for college. It will get sent to the college you choose and then they should mail you a financial award letter telling you what you can get. After FASFA there are unsubsidized and subsidizes loans also. Once you do FASFA come back on here and I can help you more if you need it. I do this for friends and family (I have done 6 peoples now) because people at the colleges dont seem to want to help anyone and if they do they tell you to go to the internet and you knew that.

The macbook is smaller screen (13 vs 15 inch). The Sony has fewer ghz (1.6) Macbook has 2 ghz. The new bootcamp patch from Mac allows the Mac to run XP (good for my small business stuff). Does anyone know if bootcamp will allow Microsoft’s new ‘Vista’ operating system? I’m on a limited budget and this is a bigger purchase for me.

Mac’s wont run vista until they develop the “hack” for it.
Mac’s are fine for usual usage, but if you have the software for your small business that’s on windows i would suggest going for the sony (unless you have software for the mac, which you should go the other way)

I do have an SSL certificate in place on my server to protect peoples’ personal information.
What legal documentation is necessary for a business like the one described above?

You will need to file with your state to collect sales tax on in-state sales and get a “doing business as” certificate. If you want to incorporate you will have to take care of that, but it is not necessary or important right now.

How much should I keep? I am asking for 38% for my contribution and 62% goes to them. Am I right?

By doing that you automatically give up control of the company since they own 62% of it, meaning they can fire you anytime they want. Be careful here, there are several books available for people starting their own companies, I would consult one before giving away this much equity in your new company.

The scammers pop up and then disappear and then pop up again with a different website name. There is simply not enough resources for nations to keep track of all websites. The authorities already have their hands full trying to track down ‘real world’ murderers, rapists, drug dealers, terrorists, etc.

On-line degrees are acceptable if they are from an accredited school. Being “state licensed” doesn’t matter, it’s accreditation that matters. If you receive a degree from a non-accredited school, it may be ok, but some people might view it as unacceptable. There are many accredited schools that will grant credit for life experience, but given that the purpose of many degrees is to show that you are well-rounded and have perseverance, it’s doubtful that a legit institution would grant a degree solely on experience. So check to see if they are accredited by one of the regional bodies if this is important to you:

Well salary negotiation is a touchy subject. I would consider why you are going to work for this company? Is it because you are unhappy in your current job, for better opportunity or for more income. If it based solely on more income then I would go ahead and send this letter. If it is not just because of income then I would consider a lighter approach. I would be careful with the statement of “base salary should be” it sounds like that is more of a demand. I looked at the company website and it seems legit but I’m not sure. Do companies send spam emails like this? I have had other emails before that I think were asking to advertise on my site but they were so poorly written and it was obvious that it was spam. This one is well written and formal.

I can’t imagine why a company would send an email directly to you about advertising instead of just using an ad through some sort of ad placement system, unless you run a MAJOR website. However, I doubt you do (no offense), and I would consider it spam. However, no harm on following up, at least to see what game they’re playing. If they are legit, you got some advertising! If they’re not, meh, no harm done. Just don’t give them any information they could use to access anything you have.

As a hiring expert, I recommend you take out your bottom two jobs as they were pretty short and you want to look like you’ve had stable jobs. The first three are fine. And a few more job descriptions. 3 may be too short. Have 4-6 job descriptions.
You should rename your activities section as “Other Experience” and name your regular experience section as “Professional Experience”. Take out “References Available Upon Request” because you should already have your references on hand when meeting an employer.

Anyone else get a NIC labs email like this? I think it’s a scam…?
I just got the following email, and it is definitely a scam. The writing style is all off…. the way that he specifies USD instead of putting in a dollar sign or saying dollars tipped me off, and then he specifies use of Western Union (http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/view.php?pg=fw_western_union) and another money transfer option. Plus, what company would let their money go through a middle man when it could be sent straight to them? and if it were going to be a middle man, wouldn’t they want it to be a legit money handling company and not just some random person? He also does not give an address, phone number, specific website URL, or specify which specific email address I should “contact” his company through. Plus, the job he mentions isn’t mentioned anywhere on the website for the company he claims to represent. They are apparently abusing access to websites like Monster with fraudulant type of activity.
I’d like to add, the company he cites seems legit, but whoever wrote the email does not seem to actually be one of their employees. Someone does exist with this name, but I highly doubt that it was actually written by anyone whose real name is such. Scammers often cite real names/companies to seem legit and “gain trust”. The email is as follows, although I removed my name and replaced it with underscores.

Making a scammer’s scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time “get the word out”.

Wasting a scammer’s time legally and safely is called “scambaiting”. If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, post up a fake website, read up on how to alert a hosting company that they are hosting a fake website, ask questions and learn all about the hobby of scambaiting.

I have a real estate license, and I am also an interior designer. I need to order new real estate cards. I designed the card just for real estate, and in the back I included a statement that says that I can also help with interior design services. Do you think it’s inappropriate to do this?

There are always creative ways to get the job done. If these two businesses were not related, then certainly two separate biz cards would be in order, however, these businesses are highly related.
I think you can advertise both businesses even within the same content, on the same side of the card. For example, something like this might be fun, and attention getting:
I decorate em, then I sell em! Call me for either service you need. I am an expert in both Interior Design, and Real Estate.
Or:
I get your home pretty, then I get it sold! Interior Design / Real Estate.
These professions go so well together, I think they should be advertised together. It helps you stand out both as a Designer, and as an Agent.

Besides Traffic Geyser, there is a free service called Tube Mogul. It works in much the same way. Additionally there is a software package I found called Tube Mastery (http://www.websitemarketingskills.com/recommends/TubeMastery) which works really well in terms of how to market on YouTube. The same basic information is true on the other sites, as well. Use your profile page to link to your site and use calls to action to get people to respond. I would just buy that program and familiarize yourself with it.

Cust. told me he was looking at porn. HEAVY INFECTIONS removed and charged $180 for 2 hrs., but XP system corrupted. Next day tried Windows repair, but it couldn’t find a driver, so I backed up all data, then full system recovery, reinstalled drivers and data and charged normal flat rate fee for this: $300. So now cust. is mad because he said for the $480 he spent on this he could have bought a new unit. I explained that we never know what effects malware will have on a system after cleaning, and he would still have had infected data to go on a new unit. We charge $180 for data recovery.
So far he has paid me $180 for malware removal and $216 for annual managed services program ($396 total)and even though it’s fair, feel reluctant to charge the $300 extra for full recovery bringing total to $696! Anyone have any suggestions? In this economy and market, am I ripping him off or asking for a fair return? Thanks so much!

Request from your regular customers to fill out the survey so that you could better improve your services to them. If you have a strong repeat-customer base, you can possibly get atleast 1/10 people you ask to take the survey.
The key for surveys is to have a strong and justified purpose for having one being done. Most people don’t like doing surveys, thus when conducting a survey you need to ensure that it is going to deliver vital data for performance improval.
Apart from getting loyal/repeat customers, the other way is to have a raffle/draw type of survey, where you give away a few prizes to a lucky few participants for taking the survey. Giving some type of incentive wil likely draw a bigger crowd to take the survey.

I don’t use the bank of my brokerage either, they always try to give me reasons but i haven’t done it yet. Their big pitch to me is that it will be easier to have access to my money but i haven’t encountered any problems so i cant be bothered to switch. After incorporating, the next step is to get a federal tax ID number for the corporation (called an Employer Identification Number) from the IRS by applying at https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/index.jsp
After that you are going to want to make what is known as an S-election for your corporation with the IRS within 75 days of your incorporation. The form to make the election can be found at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f2553.pdf and the instructions can be found at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i2553.pdf
You will want to make a corresponding election with New Jersey. The form and instructions can be found at http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/revenue/sub-s.pdf
What these elections do is prevent you from having your income taxed twice, once as corporate income and a second time as personal income and/or dividend income when you transfer income from the corporation to you. Instead it gets treated as a disregarded entity and your income is only taxed once on your personal income tax return.
Even with this general outline, it may be confusing for you to navigate the entire process on your own. You may want to consider having an attorney handle the process for you.

Please help me everyone. I have two beautiful german shepherd pups and two chihuahuas. A few minutes ago a lady came to my house claiming there had been a complaint because my dogs bark too much and she repeatedly told me it was called ” Nuisance “. I searched online and this had nothing to do with barking. More with having my dogs do their business in other peoples properties. Trust me when I say this, they hate going to the bathroom in public. They only go in MY backyard.She tried to be all professional telling me Nuisance was when my dogs barked and disturbed others. Anyhow she told me my dogs had to be registered and have all their vaccines (which they do) and that I could not have any more than 2 dogs in my home. I tried searching but I cant find anything about that. Me and my partner take very good care of them, and both my shepherds love to wine and bark when they play. One of them is 3 months and the other 5 months old. she told me that the Animal Control Services would come to my home in about 2-3 days. Please help me, I do not want to loose them. 🙁 I love my 4 dogs. Can they really take them away just because my neighbors do not like me or them? They are just puppies I am not cruel, I don’t want to put them a choke collar, a muzzle, or scream at them. Its their nature to run and play. 🙁
Thank you everyone so far, and thank you milli. Do not worry, my dogs do have their baths and sleep in the garage they are just outside throughout the day. They love it. We walk them at LEAST 3 times a day, and even some of my neighbors know them and tell me how beautiful my dogs are. No doubt about that that they are well taken care of. Its just that when they play they do love to bark, they are puppies. They are not even half a year old, its like telling a baby not to cry.

2 dogs? That’s the biggest BS I’ve EVER heard! I know a girl who recently moved from SD and she had 7 dogs, I don’t know if that was legal or not, but she did. Animal control will not seize the dogs simply because ‘there are too many’ anyways. If the dogs are barking excessively, you cannot provide proper vet care, and your house is filthy and unkept, then they will seize the dogs- no matter the number.
If they rarely bark, the dogs are of good health, up to date on shots, they don’t go in other peoples yard and your house is sanitary, animal control has no reason to seize the dogs or even come out there. The Baton rouge maximum is 12 with the exceptions of dog breeders. Call animal control and ask, them- they will gladly tell you the maximum.

I will start by says congrats. It’s no easy Challenge to start a business today online or otherwise. You will want to check with an accountant first, but I will suggest an LLC. This will help you on the tax issues and help protect your personal finances in a lawsuit. You will have to remember that you become an employee to the company so the company will have to pay Medicare/Soc.Sec. On you. In other words you will get a paycheck. If your store is going to sell over State lines you will need to know if you have to charge sales tax. Not all states are tax free when products are sold online.
Tip: When you get online you will have people try to sell you their SEO service. You can do this yourself but talk with them and find out what they know. This will help with getting your site searched by the searched engines. Search Engines don’t automatically look for you.

First look at what you have to offer in the way of skills. What do you know how to do, why would someone pay you to do that?
Some business are basically buying a job like cleaning office buildings or mowing lawns or any of hundreds of service businesses.
I would probably start a CPA firm but I have been a CPA and could get my license in a couple of weeks if I tried. My nephew bought an auto repair shop but he is a mechanic.
Finding a local need is a great idea, here it is hard to get anyone to put in side sewers, remodel anything they don’t even want to show up to do bids. One nephew has a young man that is only 22 and won’t share him until he is done having him remodel his kitchen and bathroom, I want him for two bathrooms next, that young man will be working as much as he can stand for life.

By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. I think we have a solution that just suits what you are looking at. Ideally on online sales the more the number of products you have the better the sales. Cross selling needs to be done and it sends exposure to all your products. Whenever we are retailing products we consider our taste in mind and procure products what we feel will sell. But possibly the buyer doesn’t have the same taste as ours and must be looking at something else. Example : Some people like light and sober colors while buying clothes and some like dark or loud colors. If I like sober or light colors doesn’t mean only it will sell. Secondly as the store is online and not localized the preferences could be totally different.
You Can sell on Ebay, Indiatimes, Rediff…. And make extra money. As these sites already have a huge member base you sell to captive buyers. You can source from nearest Wholesale Markets and buy in reasonable volumes and get good prices. You can also get the products drop shipped. Where you just use information from the drop shippers site and create listings on the above sites. Whenever you sell you buy from the drop shipping company and they ship it to your client directly. You make the difference in selling and buying price creating a profit. Using dropshipping you don’t have the risk of dead stock and huge investments.

Ok noticing a few flaws in your plans…
1. You sound as if you want cheap help to do this site. If you want to compete with PureVolume you have to be looking sharp, don’t make it look home made know this may be expensive but figure it out somehow
2. You said Purevolume makes 300 a day .you said if your business goes professional you will just lower prices in order to compete,it’s not always easier. Companies always fight back. But Purevolume may not be sophisticated enough to do that, but you never know.so i suggest you pick up a good book on business competition
3.You need a team and not your self. You dont wanna come down with the flue and loose revenue, if you have friends they can help you out and you can cut em in
im gonna recommend you some books to read to get you started K? Some might be a bit technical but its worth it.it’s a nice advantage knowing what others don’t (in act these book are not expense more of an investment on you mind)

Can anyone suggest how I might monitor web usage by this person? Specifically, I would like to know web site visited, time, date, and duration of stay at the site.
I know there are some expensive software solutions available to perform this task, but I was hoping that someone reading this may have successfully dealt with a similar situation in the past without a large financial outlay for expensive software.

I absolutely agree with Trishay (below). I am fine with employees using the company internet for personal reasons (within reason.) The problem comes when a certain employee repeatedly has MASSIVE computer issues (trojans, viruses, etc). I have talked with this person on multiple occassions. Employee denies ever visiting anything inappropriate or potentially harmful. But the fact is, I have had to pay a computer tech to come in and fix this employee’s pc on multiple occasions ($100/hr). At this point, I have spent more on fixing the pc than it is worth. AND every time I pay to have it fixed, the employee goes back and does the same thing. I even gave the employee an new PC in hopes that is was, in fact, a problem with the old PC. Guess what? Three days later . . . same problem. I just want to prove, beyond a shadow of doubt, that the employee is doing something that is causing the problem. Again, I am OK with internet use, as long as it doesn’t cost me money . . .

I used to use this program called Etherpeek, it is a general network tool for network troubleshooting. But you could use it to view websites that users are on your network are connecting to.
With a little rewireing you can install this onto any windows computer, plug the windows computer and the main internet connection into a the same hub to see traffic.
It’s hard to explain without a network diagram, but it is realitively inexpensive (compared to other products like it) and very easy to configure.

The different operators can not give me a definitive answer if BIS will wireless sync calender and contacts. Can anyone help?
We currently use Treo 650 handsets which sync email, calender and contacts wirelessly directly with MS exchange, so don’t really want to lose this functionality.

China requires a BA to teach English at the college level. They do not really require an ESL certificate. They are interested in oral English. The fact that you are not a native speaker will work against you, but you may still get hired once you get a BA.
They may accept less than a BA at the lower levels, but I do not have any information about anything but the college level.

To me the obvious one is #1. It covers a more wide range of people. (customers)
And it isn’t just chat or opinions people are sharing, it would be their music.
Many people could look at this as an opportunity to get their music out there.
My best friend is a musician ( guitar and drums ) and he makes his own music.
I bet everyone knows at least one person who is good with music that would love a web site like that.
I wouldn’t charge the musician for uploading their songs but you could agree to a small percentage
of their earnings from any songs that people purchase and download.

I am 16. Over the summer, I want to start an online business/internet company. I would like to make six or more figures a year. I have a few ideas so far, but I am not sure if I should do 1, 2, of all of the ideas.
Idea1- A website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. I would maybe also have a section where users can create profiles and gig listings. I would make money from selling ad space and maybe have a ecourse on “writing the perfect song” that I sell for $10 or so. I love this idea. Could this idea make me six or more figures a year? I would hire a web design firm to make the site.
Idea2- This idea is neat. I would create a website where customers can design their own guitar. Design meaning putting artwork on the guitar and customize it. I would then have a place in china create the guitars and sell the guitars on the site above the costs so I can make profit. Could this idea make me six or more figures a year?
Idea3- I would create a website where users can debate about two things. The user would type in the blanks. For example _______ vs. ____________. Then other users would start a debate by picking a side they like. So if it was vanilla vs chocolate, users either pick vanilla or chocolate and debate about which is better and why. I would sell ad space to make money. Could this make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 2 is enough of a niche market that you might just succeed, but not 6 figures, at least not right away.
Idea 1 already exists, and you would join an existing flotilla of competitors… And you dont want to compete, you want to be selling something everyone else does NOT have…

I see why you haven’t any answers – it would take a long research project to answer your question – the internet is a whole new ballgame – there are no rules in place to govern communication and marketing. Right now there’s alot of talk about what is fair and the FTC has just issued some new information regarding what you can’t and can’t say. The rules are the same as for any business practice right now – but you know – there is so much subtlty in interneting marketing that it is hard for people to catch up….In terms of marketing strategies for your non-profit organizations, it would be the same as for marketing anything else – get a domain, a website, advertise (free methods), maybe build a membership site (free one), find someone in your organization who is savvy re: internet marketing or hire a consultant (could come cheap – I have heard of marketers offering their services for free so they can show you what they can do to bolster your image on the web).

All these options are good and cheap. But I’m guessing you want a more professional job, I’m sure its not cheap stuff, but I’ve seen the difference between cheap and fast (there’s even free templates and systems for creating a website, why ask for a programmer) and professional, expert work.

It can be an ad in the mail that’s sent to your home with products or images that are relevant to you. It can be an email in your inbox, an automated telephone message, or even a Facebook message.

I would expand upon the second person’s definition of Direct Marketing by adding that Direct Marketing differs from traditional marketing or advertising in that it attempts to connect with customers on an individual basis, rather than with a universal message.
Highly targeted direct mail will reach you with a message or an offer that is completely different than what your next door neighbor might receive. Much of today’s Direct Marketing is highly targeted based upon a person’s customer profile. This includes personal information as to a person’s age, gender, income, level of education, marriage status, buying habits, media habits and other lifestyle characteristics.

So it’s vital to get that statement (showing zero balance) and confirmation that the account is closed ..

Well, the first thing you are going to need is an actual bank account. Because you will need that to make a paypal account where you can store and transfer funds.
After you get a bank account I think you will have to have your routing # to your account so you can create your paypal account.
If you are just trying to make a paypal account where you can pay for stuff all you really need is a credit card as your primary funding source.
So go to www.paypal.com and sign up for an account. Once you are done I think somewhere it has an option to add funding sources. I’m not particularly sure. =/ Hoped this helped.

Sounds like you should just charge a membership fee or viewing fee. You’ll have to set up online payment and a privacy policy for payment information. You shouldn’t need a license for anything like that but you will have to pay taxes on your income. Couldn’t tell you much about that part.

A true business credit card is a line of credit that is taken in the name of the business, under the business’ credit. Activity, whether good or bad, is reflected on your business’ credit report through D&B and other financial institutions, and the liability for any debts incurred and bills owed is with the business.
However, some companies out there offer “business” credit cards which they require a person guarantee for. These institutions will often ask for a personal guarantee, and will almost always ask for a social security number from the person applying for the card. If this is the case, the credit card is not a business credit card, but is simply a personal credit card which is used for the business. The business is not liable for bills and debts – you are.
When applying for a credit card for your business, watch out for areas asking for your SSN (and not your TaxID or EIN) and be wary of any credit card that asks for a personal guarantee. By ensuring that your credit card is in the name of your business, you can help to build your business’ credit, while avoiding creating problems with your own.
Many companies offer a list of credit cards that are issued under the business name only. Those lists typically run $300-$900, depending on the quality of the information inquiring. I would suggest starting your search online via google or yahoo. Search for “strong business credit” (just like that in quotes) to find services that sell the information.

1. Research your idea. This is the most important aspect of your business plan. Know your market by getting as many opinions as you can on your idea. You should also determine if you can patent your invention or if it can be formed without infringement of other filed patents; you can also explore manufacturing.
2. Create a professional presentation. When you get all of the essential information, you will have to present it to possible licensors. In addition to a three-dimensional model, you should make a clear-cut sell sheet to give all information you have collected. It should be one or two pages and plainly explain the following: the problem, challenge or need the product meets, the product’s features and advantages, your product’s market and its legal status (patent pending, copyright or trademark info). Additionally, write an introductory letter to go with your sheet–this introduces you, tells why you’re contacting the individual or company and arranges a time for follow-up.
3. Identify your targets. Figure out the most fitting contacts for your opportunity. Some experts recommend making a list of at least 50 prospects–the more prospects, the better. A more concentrated list will bring you more valuable results. If you have a product, consider local shopping areas and write down names of manufacturers who make related items. Another way is to find the trade association that serves your product’s industry. Online databases can also be an excellent resource.
4.Prioritize your targets. When you have your list, prioritize them based on which ones will be most suitable with you and your product. Things to consider include size, geography, comparable product line, access to a decision maker, company policy and manufacturer standing.

The photography is not the best, with glare from lighting on some products. Descriptions of products are not detailed, including condition of used products. If you are selling products for others, the owner should fill out a form you create with lots of details before you accept them. Some of the printed descriptions have lines of type that are not readable.

You want to find a list broker. They take care of all the work and then send you a check for your profits. They spend their time and energy trying to get their clients to rent your list.
Find a local direct mail service (mailing house) in your area and ask them what list brokers they work with. Most likely they’ll deal in mailing lists, but they’ll know who handles e-mail lists.
Another option is to contact a dog magazine. Ask who their list broker is. Talk to them about whether they rent e-mail lists.

Is it a LLC or Corporation? If so what type? Is it a C Corporation or a S Corporation? Is it a single person LLC or multiple owners? Is it a partnership or is it just a Sole Proprietor?
Without knowing what type of business entity you have nobody can give you a reasonable answer.

You pay federal income taxes (and state if applicable) on the net income you make.
You calculate that by taking the Gross Income you get and deducting all your expenese and costs of the products.
If you are making money then you owe taxes.
You should probably get some advice from a competent tax advisor.

All of those questions are very valid. You will have to pay corporate/LLC taxes every year. Using turbo tax will walk you through the expenses. If you are scared, then go to a tax preparer/CPA firm (not H&R block). The main categories you will have will be office supplies, cost of goods sold (stuff you sold), internet fees, shipping, etc. It may seem daunting, but sit and go through your expenses and classify by type.

First, it’s illegal to not accept returns if the item is broken. Doesn’t matter if your policy is “sale final” or not.
Second, customers can do a chargeback by contacting their bank. They don’t need to go though the merchant account you use.
And 3-day return policy! Sure if you want no customers. When I purchase something even though it has been delivered, I have it sent to a mailbox and I might not even pick it up for more than 3 days. Then I might not get around to opening it for another few days. No way, I would purchase anything from you.

Should I start a company or LLC for apartment complexes?
My father owns three individual apartment complexes and he’ll be retiring in the future and I’ll probably taking ownership of them. He has always been just the owner of these properties, he has never established a company or LLC for them. I had thought about getting my real estate brokers license and starting a property management company that encompasses these properties. I’m hoping to find some direction on any advantages (i.e. taxes) if I should start a company or just retain ownership as my father has for many years.

If you incorporate (corp/LLC), you will have some advantages if someone gets hurt. They can only sue the biz and not you personally. You will also be able to pay yourself a paycheck w2. A RE license will help if you do this for someone else you don’t need it for your personal properties.

Do you work to supplement the family income?
While I do not have to supplement my family’s income, I work 10 to 12 hours a week as customer service representative at my local supermarket. In addition during the 2011 summer vacation, I started my own automobile detailing business with a friend. We created a business plan, marketed our services on the internet and in our community, kept business records, negotiated with customers and performed all car detailing procedures. This averaged 20 to 30 hours a week during the summer. By the end of the summer we were so successful an operator of a fleet of limousines contacted us to perform all of the detailing for their fleet of over 40 vehicles. Because of the time commitment involved, we declined their offer.
Are there family obligations that limit your participation in extracurricular activities?
During my junior, year both my parents suffered from serious health issues that necessitated devoting more of my attention to my family. During November 2010, without any prior history of them, my mother had two seizures, one while driving. As a result, her driving privileges were suspended for a six month period. Fortunately, the anti-seizure medication she was prescribed has prevented any further seizure incidents. Then in December 2010, my dad began to experience extreme back pain, which ultimately resulted in his having spine/back surgery in July 2011. Does the California Energy Commision really want to get between us and our televisions?
Many organizations are opposing tough new legislation designed to cut energy usage, including groups that normally support conservation and green technology. Latest example, the LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-ed-tv3-2009oct03,0,1389923.story
Every state-wide and national group who’s weighed in on this subject has come down in opposition also.
The California Energy Commission (CEC) seems to only have one proponent – themselves.
In an email communication with the CEC explaining how Californians would suffer under their planned restrictions, they replied with “You’re smart guys, you’ll figure it out.”
I responded with the fact that TV manufacturers are already responding to the voluntary federally run Energy Star program. Sony’s energy usage has dropped more than 60% between 2005 and 2009 – still waiting for a reply…
I participated in this discussion on KPCC, the local NPR for the greater Los Angeles market, where guests from Visio and the Consumer Electronics Association confirmed that picture quality is directly relative to energy usage and is likely to retard due to CEC meddling.
New technologies, as they roll out, are where we see improvement. Are we supposed to think up something new real fast, then rush the research and development because the CEC thinks it’s a good idea? Apparently.
Californians will be in for some or all of the items below if the CEC passes their draconian requirements.
The nicer looking televisions tend to use more power than their cheap counterparts. Some manufacturers may be forced to stop selling the good stuff in larger sizes to Californians
If Californians are forced to use the Internet to buy larger TVs with good quality pictures, state sales tax revenue will go down as will income from trucking, sales and service organizations. Since practically everyone buys larger TVs these days, there will be significant job loss in California too.
Manufacturers may choose to dumb down the picture quality to meet the requirements. (Anyone can make a TV more efficient by turning down the brightness, contrast and color.) If all the TVs in the local showroom have the same poor picture, we won’t be the wiser.
Exciting new technologies often hit the market then become more efficient after a year or two. Californians can forget being on the cutting edge of technology.
Convenience models, ones that include a Blu-ray player or maybe a hard drive for DVR functionality, use even more power than a simple TV, but use less than having individual boxes sitting next to the TV. Sorry, we won’t get those either.
One on-the-horizon technology may be capable of meeting CEC requirements for larger sizes while maintaining good picture quality. It’s called OLED. Trouble is, so far we can only make up to 11 inch pictures and even at that small size they cost over $2000.00 to buy.
