Small business for the most part doesn’t lend itself to have big advertising budgets, so finding a place to “get your name out there” without paying for it is important.

To advertise on a budget effectively you must have a web presence, and preferably a website. If you don’t your small business is only treading water before it goes under. A website is the door that can open your small business to a phenomenal growth track because of the power of search engine optimization (SEO). There is a reason why Google® and Yahoo® have been some of the fastest growing companies of all time, its because search engines work. I personally use Google so much a day I lose track of how many times, and this goes for a majority of its users. Now that we have the understanding that SEO is the number one way to get free advertising by a very wide margin lets focus on one of the other ways to work at making free advertising more effective for your small business.

Social networking as a whole are becoming as popular as search engines such as Google and Yahoo. In fact Google bought Youtube® and started their own Myspace® type website called Orkut® and Yahoo attempted to buy Facebook®. Social networking is such a bonanza that doesn’t even know their own limits of how large they will grow. Where does your small business fit in? Since they are free there is no money investment to make, but you will have to invest your time, especially in the beginning. You will need to take time to learn the site, set up your profile, and make friends. Remember, you are looking for ways to make the time you spend using this website as an advertising tool as fruitful as possible. Of course set up your profile with the focus of your business objectives and reaching your goals, and always abide within the rules set by the websites. Your investment of time is your efforts to build your network, because it will take trial and error to learn what is best for your business in social networking. Taking the time to build your network is the number one emphasis when it comes to social networking for your small business.

There are other emphasis which I will list below in no particular order:

* Try an individual profile as a representative of your business before you try a group profile for your business to give an idea of the time it will require to build a network
* Don’t sign up for too many social networks, you risk diluting your message and emphasis.
* Share the networking responsibility with other employees or business owners once you have a business profile
* Don’t be distracted easily, remained focus on what your business objective and building your network to reach your goals. If needed, set goals for building your network.
* Don’t be afraid to get a little personable, people do enjoy talking to other people when networking, not just a profile on a website.
* Don’t be random when searching for friends for your network. Its a waste of time, choose your friends carefully, and then extend invitations to their friends and their friends and so on.
* Alter your preferences on your profile to reduce spam and unsolicited offers. This will save you time as well.

Remember social networks can be people who are very passionate in one way or another about their cause so you need to be the same way concerning your small business on social networks. If you are its a very easy way to advertise and grow your small business on a budget.

As for grants, it is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK – lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

Even if you buy books on “how to get grants” or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same – hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.

For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center’s Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It’s a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for “students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices.” Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don’t have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.

What you are probably looking for is/are Angel Investors. These people are investors — not business operators. In general, they are not interested in stealing your ideas. What they are looking for is opportunities to get a big payoff when a business they invested in succeeds.

In my opinion, the best way to learn about internet marketing is to just do it.

Try building a website and driving traffic to it. Try creating some online ads on Google Adwords or LaunchBit. Follow top blogs on internet marketing and read as much as you can. You have to set it up so a holdout cell of records gets only direct mail. The quantity depends on your overall universe. The other test cells obviously have both direct mail and email. You can then measure the impact in response rates by looking at a cost per lead or other cost-per metric. You do not need to register a business if you are the sole proprietor. You are merely a private contractor, like a handyman, doctor, author, etc.

You have to report income to Revenue Canada as a self-employment income, which means tracking income and expenses, declaring the difference as self-employment income, etc. You will need to apply for a GST number, and if you earn more than $30,000/year you need to charge GST to Canadian customers and remit this quarterly.

However, if you don’t set yourself up as either an incorporated or limited company… You pay personal income tax rates (rather than lower corporate rates), and you are personally liable for debts.

If your online business is making more than $9,000 per year, or you plan it will this year, then yes you need to incorporate for tax purposes. Having a business license is good anyway, it will allow you to open a checking account in your businesses name, and buy products through wholesalers. To register you business and it’s name your going to need forms that meet your state requirements. It’s pretty easy to do and doesn’t require a lawyer. You can download a kit or order a book that will include the forms and guide you through the entire process at the link below.

WHAT KIND OF ORGANIZATION?

If this is a sole proprietorship, you CANNOT be an employee. You CANNOT receive a traditional paycheck on payroll. You must file 1040-ES (Estimated tax payments) quarterly.

If this is an LLC, LLC’s are a “disregarded entity” by the IRS. This means the IRS does NOT recognize them unless they ‘elect” to be treated as a corporation. A single member LLC defaults to a sole proprietorship (see above).

If this is a corporation (XYZ, Inc. Or ABC Corporation), then you MUST be an employee and pay yourself a salary commensurate with your position. In other words, you cannot take a salary of $10K and “distributions” or “dividends” of $20K.

Since you need to do your books (Receivables, Payables, checks, etc), I recommend using an accounting program like either Peachtree (my preference) or Quickbooks. Either can track your 1099 vendors and produce 1099s at the end of the year. Payroll and Contractors are 2 different things. Most payroll services can pay contractors and prepare the 1099’s, but it’s a separate service.

And you can use Quickbooks online payroll to do your own.

Yes, by all means use your stage name, then you won’t have to change it later. When you find an agent, of course let them know your real name. You can have checks sent to your agent or to the union (once you become a member) and they will forward money to you. You can even let your bank know that you use a separate name, or you can open a separate account if necessary. You only want to be known by one name in the biz, so don’t confuse things. Good Luck!

There’s two things you have to deal with. One is getting it set up on the internet. The other is getting it set up in real life.

On the internet, you did the first step – reserve a domain name. Being private on whois just keeps you from getting some spam but it doesn’t do much beyond that. It just means that if I want to see who owns hairstylist.com, I can’t. You still have to advertise or otherwise get it known, and, of course, build a website to go with it.

The second is in real life. There are a few ways to do business. One is as a sole proprietor – just your business. This is the easiest way to do business – you report it on your personal tax form under schedule C. If you are using a name other than your own given name (like a company name, like hairstylist.com) then you would register with your state’s Secretary of State office, usually the division of corporations. You register your name, which keeps others in the same state from using it. You would be a “d.b.a. (or d/b/a)” which means “doing business as”, as in Joe Smith d/b/a Hairstylist.com

Other ways of forming a business are to incorporate, or do limited liability formations. I think the best way is to find a partner but if you knew someone with that kinda cash you probably would have already asked them right? Ok the next best way is to find a HARD MONEY LENDER (google it) i found this out through a real estate program i had to pay for. Now the best ones to find are in your local newspapers like pennysaver and or thrifty nichol. You can find the hard money lenders online but with the amount of traffic coming thru ads they tend to be more strict in the lending process. When looking in the newspaper look for tems like “payday loans” these are private companies or private investors that realize the potential in this type of lending and will fund your project. Be careful of the charges or interest rates because they tend to be higher than a normal loan. Most people that use this type of service plan to flip the property quickly so the interest rate is not a factor to them when they get the loan. If this doesnt work try going to a REAL ESTATE CLUB, and pitching your idea to an investor . If that doesnt work submit a profile to http://www.prosper.com/join/loan/deandreda1. They will look at your investment idea and your credit worthiness and make a decision to finance it or not. Well, I would still start with the forums first, and just join in some conversations, be helpful and interested etc. Then…as part of that discussion, or open a new one, ask the question if anyone would be interested in forming a (small?) mastermind group where you exchange ideas about internet marketing, or where you help each others business further.

The idea of a mastermind group is really powerful. It is the one factor that brings many businesses to “next level” as they say…and it can be great for your work ethic too: the group expects you to perform, so you do 🙂

Be more specific though if you want to chat only about certain aspects of internet marketing, such as product creation, search engine optimization, pay per click etc…so that you dont get people whose interest you don’t share.

Copyrights can also be obtained for advertising copy, games, software programs and blueprints, to name just a few.

To protect a business name within your industry, you would apply for a trademark.

Trademarks can be names of products or services, logos, slogans, packaging and even sounds and smells. In essence, a trademark can be almost anything that is used to identify a particular product or service. Registering a trademark grants the owner exclusive rights to the mark within the specified industry.

Of course, it’s necessary to research the mark comprehensively prior to filing to ensure that there is no possibility of infringing upon another party.

6Mbps is pretty high so dont worry about bottleneck. You said no router nor an L3 switch? Then turn one of the computers into a router. That computer should have two NICs, and if it only has 1 just get 1 and install it. Make sure that one the NICs supports 802.1q (or vlan tagging/trunk) and VLANs so that that intervlan routing can be acheived. If you dont want users from the wireless to be able to access the one in the wired network, just use ACLs in the switch.

There are a number of small business software, Not aware of any specific one for purchasing though.
The ones available help manage the overall business setup including the purchasing process.

Microsoft dynamics and SAP business one are good choices and both have web based cloud versions. SAP B1 also has many industry specific addons, so you might find one specifically designed for extensive purchasing- although i think its standard purchasing module might also do the work.

Salesforce is mainly for managing sales, but you can try asking them , they might have a similar solution for purchasing.

If you plan to incorporate then you need to register with the federal,state and city government. If you plan to run the business as a sole proprietor then all you need is a business license from your local city government. Some cities do not require you to get a business license until the business makes $3,000 to $4,000 so see what your local government requires for an e-commerce business.

Steps for getting started:
First and foremost write up a business plan.
1. Forming the business either through incorporating or as a sole proprietor. If you plan to incorporate then you need to get with your states Secretary of State to do this.
2. Find your SIC and NAICS code you will need either one or both for your business formation with the government entities.
3. Getting an EIN if required
4. Setting up a Franchise and Excise Tax and Sales and Use Tax account with the Dept of Revenue in the state you are in. You need to determine if you need one or both of these accounts. Just call the Dept of Revenue in your state and they are usually pretty helpful in answering all your questions.
5. Set up a business bank account or bank account with a DBA attached to it if you plan to do the business as a sole proprietor if you incorporate then a business bank account is what you need.
6. Set up a merchant and or paypal account. The merchant account you can set up through your bank and this allows you to take all major credit cards.
7. Build a website and get a domain name and hosting. You can either build your own website or have one built for you, some start out with a blog because it’s free and you can make it look like a standard website so take a look at this option and see if it will work for you. Just keep in mind if you use a blog you need relevant content in the body of the blog if it’s just full of product links then you will eventually get shut down. As far as building your own you can either buy software or use the online website builders. Using the software allows you to create your site how you want it just make sure the hosting provider you use will support the software, with the online website builders you will be limited to their templates and I believe you have to use their hosting but you can buy your domain name from anywhere and just direct to their server.
Research SEO for your website, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and you can read about this at any article directory. Once in the directory put in a search for what you are wanting to read about and you should get some articles to read up on. If your search comes up empty or not what you are looking for just reword the search until you do. The info is there you just need to use the right phrasing. If you are on a tight budget you may also look into free ways to market your site.
8. Get inventory.
9. Figure out how you plan to ship product. This all comes down to how you plan to handle inventory. Some people have their own and some get involved with companies that have the product and you sell it and they drop ship the product for you. This saves on you having to carry the product yourself and having unsold inventory in your possession. If you plan to do affiliate marketing then you need to sign up to the affiliate programs and get your code specific links to post on your site.
10. Marketing your website. Just because you publish a website doesn’t mean it’s visible to the search engines and the public at large so you need to submit the site to the 3 top search engines at the least and start marketing the site.

This is a basic order and some of these may overlap each other during the process but I hope this helps out. I’ve been through the routine and had to figure it all out myself. Just ask a lot of questions with the people you are dealing with to get things in order.

It will depend on which country you are in.

In the UK, you could be self-employed for your online business (and still be employed for your other job) and you don’t need to register the “company”, but you have to register yourself with the tax office as being self-employed.

Then you have to do an annual self-assessment tax return, with the turnover of the business, the costs of running the business (buying stock, P&P, etc), and the difference is your profit, which you pay tax and National Insurance on.

If your turnover is low enough (less than about £65,000 per year) you don’t need to get involved in VAT.

If the business is big enough, then it starts to be worthwhile setting up a limited company, which does have to be registered. But I would suggest one step at a time.

For now I will assume that this is what you are doing. As far as the free advertisement the things that I know of that you can do that won’t cost you anything to do are to:

1. First off I would start a blog with one of the blog sites these are free to use. This would make a good landing page for whatever you want to sell. You can make a blog look like a website because that is essentially what a blog is without the monthly hosting fees and yearly domain name payment to keep your site name. With this blog you can write informative articles about crocheting, with your products posted on your site. You notice I said articles, it would be good to build up an archive of information that people can read about. This is also a form of advertisement because when you publish your site and submit to at the least the three top search engines it will start to bring in people to your site plus the constant updating of information is good with the search engines they like that. When you do update with a new article just send out a ping to let the search engines know that you have new info. You can also monetize your site (the info on that should be explained within the blog site you sign up with.

This alone will not bring in a flood of traffic but it’s a start. You also want to do SEO on your blog and for more info on that you can go to article sites that will have way more info than I can give you here. Just go to the site and when your in put in a search for SEO my blog and it should give you some article to read up on.

Another way to do free advertising is to get on the social media sites to get your site visible. Build up a following which in turn if they trust and like you will convert into traffic. Make sure to have a link to your site visible so that people know where to go. Create videos and post them on the video social media sites again with your link to your blog.

Another way for free advertising is to write quality informative articles and post them on the article sites with a link to your blog. There are over 500 of these sites to post in. It’s a good practice to change up the article a little every so many sites you post in so that it doesn’t appear to be the same article over and over again. You can also post any article you write for your blog to these sites with something at the end that states (for more info go to http:// bla bla bla .com). To find article sites type in a search for the top 25 or top 500 article sites and you should find sites that have a list of a bunch of sites to go to.

More free advertising can be had in posting your site on the open directories and there are quite a few of them. Be aware though that some but not all require your site to be a least 5 pages so if you want to post in these you need to have 5 pages of informative articles to be accepted. Some will require you to have your own email account and I don’t mean the free ones like Yahoo but there aren’t too many of those type open directories and I just pass them over. Type in a search for free open directories and you should get sites that have a list of open directories.

All of these sites have different types of listings these being the pay types, reciprocal link types which are free and just the standard listing types which are also free. What the deal is is that if you use the pay or reciprocal link type listing they say the review of your submission will be faster whereas the standard link may take up to six weeks or more, I myself just use the standard type but if you wish to do the reciprocal links you may do so, this is just posting their link on your site. If any of these sites just have a pay option then just pass them by unless you just wish post there and some of the time it’s just a one time fee and some are yearly, form what I can remember they weren’t much. Also look into local free directories in your area and post your site in them as well.

Go to forums that pertain to what you do and get your site link out in these place too.

If you can find other blogs that are along the same lines as yours, you will find that some of these sites will let you make a comment with your link so it never hurts to check them out. Some will only accept after they have been moderated which means after the site owner has check out your comment and approved it.

Press releases are still a good idea when you publish a site. They are short term links but they still get your site noticed in it’s initial stages so research this and find out how to do a press release.

That’s about all I can think of right now but maybe someone else will have other ideas that I didn’t think of.

First, remember that there are two different P/E ratios commonly used, the trailing P/E ratio and the forward P/E ratio.

The trailing P/E ratio uses actual earnings over the last year as the divisor. That can make the ratio misleading if
(1) Some extraordinary event has a large impact on earnings that will not be repeated in the future or
(2) Some event did not have an impact on past earnings but will have a big impact on future earnings.

I can give you a single example that at one time caused the trailing P/E ratio for DuPont to be less than 2. DuPont owned Conoco Oil and sold it. That cause a huge jump in earnings the quarter that the sale took place, but simultaneously reduced future earnings.

The forward P/E ratio uses expected future earnings over the next year as the divisor in the ratio. That obviously eliminates both of the problems I mentioned with using the trailing P/E ratio, but equally obviously the forward P/E ratio is only as accurate as the estimate of future earnings. A single unexpected event will make the forward P/E inaccurate, and most companies experience multiple unexpected events every year.

Another thing to consider, whether you use a trailing P/E ratio or a forward P/E ratio, is that in some cases there is no meaningful P/E ratio. The biggest pecentage gains I have ever made in stocks have been from companies I bought while they were losing money. Since there were no earnings, there were no meaningful P/E ratios. (I should add that the largest stock percentage losses I have ever had, 100%, also came from companies I bought while they were losing money.) The point is that if a company is plowing all the money they can into growing the company, it may lower the P/E ratio but improve the long-term performance of the stock.

So, in answer to your original question, low P/E ratios are NOT a valid reason to buy a stock UNLESS you also conisider other factors that have an impact on earnings.

Im gay and both my parents are straight. To be honest you are born gay, it was never my choice and i doubt my parents could have changed this (ask any gay person this and they will you exactly the same thing). This is probably due to overpopulation, if for example, you have a gay uncle, he will not reproduce but still provide food or protection for the population.

Hate to break this to you, but it’s been done, and done rather well at that. Some agencies no longer maintain an actual office other than for records.

Even small agencies usually have a website where folks can search for properties and ask questions of an agent. Many individual agents have their own websites with property search and local area information.

The “barelli.biz” site is my own, and the “tidesrealestate.com” site is my office with less than a dozen agents. (Both of those sites are pretty basic. Internet marketing is a business and you must work hard at your business to make it successful. A lot of people have the misconception that they can, through up a website, add some affiliate links to it and make some good income.

Are you just visiting or living there for a while, it makes a big difference. How many people? For one or 2 people, you can get a small water filtration device about the size of 2 of your fists, and for 3 or 4 people they have one the size of a persons arm. Scottdman, I watched the debate intently. I was getting upset with McCain for not hammering home where all of this economic crisis began. I felt that they were both way to easy on each other. The methods that you have mentioned so far are essentially a waste of time and money. Trust me I have tried them several times. You do not want to rent or buy other peoples’ lists because they will not be targeted towards your product/service and the people receiving the messages will not be responsive. Think about what you would do if you received a random email about some product or service that you have never expressed an interest in. Would you even look at it?

What I suggest is that you set up the following:
Blog
Facebook page
Twitter Account
Google+ Account
Pinterest account
Youtube account (very powerful for SEO)

Link all of these things together and put up a bunch of content (you can get content written and videos made cheaply on fiverr.com)

Drive traffic towards the blog or a squeeze page where you will have an opt-in form. You always want to ask permission before sending emails. This is not just for ethical reasons, it also increases the responsiveness of the list because as far as they are concerned they have chosen to be marketed to and are actually expecting to be contacted by you.

Definitely. I live north of Spokane, and am working on my MBA from Indiana University, and a dual Master’s in Global Management from Thunderbird.

I hate WSU (I went to UW undergrad), but as long as they are AACSB accedited, it is worthwhile. However, you should check the rankings and try and get into the best school you can. IU is top tier (top 20 across the board, top 5 / top 10 in many disciplines), and Thunderbird is #1 in global business 10 years’ running.

The key is AACSB certification. It ensures the school has the highest standards for academics, and that the online degree is just as good as the in-residence degree is.

WSU has that certification, so it is at least top 10% of business schools in the world. There are better, so find a fit for what you want to study, your budget, and your application.

I looked at every school on that list, compared it to all the rankings, and then went down the list until one had an online program. Duke was the best Executive Ed, but it was $120,000+ and required me to be on campus several weeks a year. Neither fit me. IU requires one week a year; The IU/TBird dual is about three and a half weeks. One at IU, one in Beijing, China, and one and a half in Arizona.

Online degrees are no different than the in-residence degrees at AACSB schools. In fact, they have some advantages because you keep your job, you learn to manage your time alot more, and you work with teammates and classmates in a setting more like the business world – email, conference calls, and online collaborative meetings.

So, other than the WSU thing I was kidding about (mostly), I say go for it!

Bottom line is that the best online programs will be at the best traditional colleges. You do your site first, then add the Paypal button to that. All they do is the money transfer for you, you have to do your own website before adding their thing.

1. Design your business card using photoshop (or any other image editing software)
2. Make another image that is 5 * 7 inches in diameter which compiles 4 business cards into one image (keep in mid that the dimensions should be around 2×3.5 inches)
3. Upload the picture to the Walgreens website, or any other online photo printing site. They charge you about 1 dollar per 5*7 print and about 20 cents for a 4*6 (which will also work for business cards with the dimensions of 2*3)
4. Select glossy print, and place your order. Pick em up an hour later at your local Walgreens.
5. Cut the pictures up using scissors or a paper cutter and you should have 4 business cards per print.

Not the most professional solution, but definitely did the trick for me. They look great, feel great, are durable and I spent a grand total of 5 dollars for 100 2*3 business cards. Thats pretty amazing. Keep in mind that Kinkos charges around 90 dollars for 250 cards.

Good question but one which I doubt you will ever find the answer to.

Film slideshows of stills were being created before video came about. An uncle of mine used to do that in the 1950’s. On cine film.

Photographers would film prints and edit them into films of weddings and the like.
Then video came along and made it easier and video editors would add transitions and effects to the stills.
I recall many years ago this being advertised on bulletin boards (for the youngsters that was how we communicated on-line prior to the www being the “thing” ).

When pc’s became more popular then the slide show business just moved with the times and they were done on “floppies” (Lesson 2 for the youth. They were the things which preceded cd’s and dvd’s and could hold tens of k’s of information).

Quite simply, those sort of businesses have been around for many years and it was individual photographers who first offered that sort of service and people doing so were offering this on bulletin boards back in the 70’s and 80’s.

All the latest slideshow technology is just the old stuff moving up and onwards.

The pros are that you will have others helping you sell your products and then you normally only pay them once they have sold the item so you can’t really loose out on that part of it.

The cons are that there is quite alot of work involved and you have to advertising your affiliate program just like a site to get affiliates interested in signing up. It’s not an easy task running an affiliate program, but you can let 3rd party networks take most of your workload of you by paying them a little extra so that they can practically run it and help get affiliates for you.

I think you’re headed down the right path, in a general way. I’ve spent some time going through the same steps.

People do make money with sites like you describe. The key is, you MUST give people a reason to visit and more importantly, a reason to return. That means content.

You’ve realized that you have a couple of options. Your first, cell phone reviews, has some merit. And as you point out, you’ll be competing with c/net, (that’s where I go). You will need to supply some type of content that somehow exceeds theirs.

The second idea, auctions, isn’t bad, but you are competing with the big boy, ebay.

So how this for an idea. You can have some reviews, (they MUST be good if you want creditability) then go to ebay and set up an ebay store? Let them handle the auction for a cut.

Down the road, if it pans out, you can set up your own site.

As for marketing purposes, there are certain rules that will have to be followed. Easier structure in WordPress.
1. Ensuring that your website is standards-compliant.
2. Meta Content is so very important in terms of how well you equip your pages to stand out. There is a way I believe to do individual meta tags/ content for each page.
3. Ensuring accessibility on pages etc.

I sort of understand his point:
With the nice addons and security features (quick backup etc) that is possible in WordPress, I sort of understand his stance. Depending on what type of website you are running: informational, ecommerce etc and the sizing of it, WordPress’ ability to structure a massive amount of content can be lost in an built-from-scratch website. In addition to this, he’s also talking about usability. How quickly will you be able to update information on your website or respond to requests made..

What I’ve also learnt as well is that depending on your hosting packaging, you can install wordpress right there (as a subdomain) and link it from your website. For instance the main site may be www.marketingcentral.com and your blog may be located at www.marketingcentral.com/blog/ or blog.marketingcentral.com. The installation however, usually does not function properly unless you have paid hosting.

Yes most warranties are marked up about $1000, and yes he may accept the lower offer, but he also may not, because his payplan may require him to average a certain amout of profit.

avg$1000 profit and get 15%
avg$800 profit and get 12%

so taking a lower price may actually cost him money(the % are not just for that 1 transaction but all money he earned for the month). The owner sets this payplan so that his finance manager does not give the produst away.

Publisher is a program installed on many pc’s and used by many people to create personal stationery and advertising/promotional material but if you are after something that has all the extra professional features InDesign is the way to go.

The learning curve can be a steep one though to get the results you are after and it’s not cheap.

Some page layout software that sits in between these two is Scribus. This has many of the features that you’ll find in InDesign but best of all it’s open source software so you can download it for free.

If you’re not a professional designer/desktop publisher it would be a good option as it allows you to create your layouts to pretty much the same standard as if you were using InDesign without the cost.

Finally, the first answerer makes a valid point, no matter what software you use, without the skills, technical know-how and artistic ability you may still be disappointed in the result. This may also be a reason for considering the open source software for a start, thereby avoiding expensive software until you are sure you want to continue doing your own layouts/designs.

It’s very easy to fall under the spell of thinking you need every item to succeed but the reality is you appear to be researching too many different things and being led down the (you need this product) avenue.

Keep it simple. Choose a niche, create an information product (or get an affiliate link to someone elses product) and market where these people hang out.

One step at a time and then repeat the formula.
