Your Questions About Direct Marketing Strategies

Charles asks…
I am manufacturing of inverters, pls tell me which part in TamilNadu is a good market place to do business ?
I do manufacture and do direct marketing in tamilnadu and want to know which part in tamilnadu is most affected by power supply?

Jere answers:
Contact Tamilnadu Electricity Board & ask for the schedule of Load Shedding in the entire state,village/townwise under the right to information act & then make a strategy of marketing (which will include selling, after sale service, setting up new sales offices/repair shop etc.etc.) accordingly.

Michael asks…
What do you think of that new JJ Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration for the movie Super 8?
Any thoughts on that? Looks like they’re going back to similar marketing strategies they used with Cloverfield by keeping it hush hush and leaving the audience wondering more.
Do you have any information about this movie?

Jere answers:
I think it’s going to be an interesting film. The teaser left me wanting more, I don’t know if it’s an alien movie or a monster movie but either way with Abrams directing and Spielberg producing, I’m sure it’ll be a great film. I thought Cloverfield was pretty great (especially on the big screen) but I think this film is going to be great.
I don’t have any information. The movie is extremly secret, all we know is that a train and truck collide, an explosion occurs, and “something” in the train.
A plot, a cast… Nothing has been revealed. They are very hush hush up until when it comes out.
I just know it isn’t coming out until Summer 2011.

Laura asks…
Is the new “Jesus; all about life” Christian spam in the US as well or is it only in Australia?
I’ve noticed that just about every church in Sydney has this new marketing strategy advertised out the front. It’s a banner with “Jesus” in big letters and then the phrase, “All about life” after it. There has also been TV advertising. It directs people to a website where they can post in a picture and a short Twitter style message and thank this “Jesus” for whatever they want. Christian spam.

Jere answers:
I haven’t seen that in the U.S. Yet…

Sandra asks…
What is a good marketing strategy when starting a webshop?
We just want a general idea on how to proceed with our marketing. We will shortly open a new webshop, with a unique product for children big and small 🙂 …
How to best market our shop?

Jere answers:
I would begin with the basics:
1. Branding – logo and business card very important the logo will determine if people want to be associated with your salon or brand
2. Get yourself an on-line on all the directories specific to your location things like freeindex, yell, thompson
3. Create yourself a facebook/linked in account specific to your business – show off your work there, get customer quotes on there recommendations etc try and get as many quotes from your customers you need to keep this consistent and monitor what people are saying etc make friends with your clients on these sites
4. Website does not have to be huge site but make it slick, easy on the eye get a good logo done make sure the site is reflective of how you feel the quality of your products are …services, opening times, seasonal special offers, customers book online??…selling products, advice,
5. Direct marketing…you can either buy data from a data agency or sift for it online we are not talking about 000’s of pounds here but more like 16p per record try and get contact address email phone (mobile preferably). Also for your existing customers to ensure you keep them get them to fill out a satisfaction card after each purchase. Also the type of data you can get especially if you are targeting children go directly to their schools and advertise via them
6. Association – maybe with a complimentary business where if they send anybody over to you they get a % off and vice versa but remember this association need to be specific to your business and should complement what you do
7. Advertising on local websites, magazines newspapers etc….i’m not a big fan of this especially for small businesses as i find it very costly with not the same return. Radio advertising is good but again find the radio station specific to your audience
The purpose of doing any marketing is to deliver an integrated campaign targeting customers from a number of angles to give you awareness and leads so this will enforce you message and your brand which will then give you consistent leads…. Remember nothing happens over night and you need to be consistent with your marketing to ensure a successful marketing campaign. The intensity and frequency of your marketing will be determined by how busy you are if you are full then you don’t need to do a lot look at just awareness building and customer retention on your existing customers to protect them from your competitors and if you are at that stage then word of mouth which should be your most powerful tool is kicking in. They key thing to remember is that your core competence needs to be consistently good to ensure your marketing works…and marketing has a habit of biting back where people are not delivering on what they promise on their marketing.
Reputation is imperative if you stay on top of your game and stay in tune with the latest developments in the industry and are consistently improving your skill levels then your customers will not want to go anywhere else.
If you look at the above process and start your planning using the framework i have detailed you can still be moving with the key points i have specifically highlighted for your business they will form the crux of your marketing other elements may come from your research and planning not all the points need to be implemented look at the timing and look at the budget. Also ask your customers how do they prefer to be communicated with that should narrow down your marketing effort.

Chris asks…
I have a new website. How can i make good sales for it?
I have a new website. How can i increase sales for it.what are the best marketing strategies i can use for?

Jere answers:
Look http://paid2click.cybershimla.com and Advertise your website there.
I found there website through an article that specifically listed they as a good website that sells high quality traffic. I purchased 5,000 visitors to my website, and noticed the difference before I even checked my logs! I am so glad that I finally found a way to market my website that can be done quickly. I know how important SEO is, but they have to promote in other ways too. I know I’ve found a working method!
I just wanted to say how impressed I was with there service. My campaigns were set up promptly and delivered as promised. I was impressed with the results as well. I purchased traffic for two of my websites and I received over 1450 signups for the first website and over 1030 signups for the second. (That’s less than $0.01 a lead! Try finding that elsewhere!).
There advertising works great. I’m using a direct landing page for my campaign and have been tracking every ad. A very high amount of visitors have been browsing my site and my conversion rates have gone up..
Ever since I began advertising with Quality Traffic Supply, my sales have greatly increased. Since I now have a steady source of traffic which is targeted to my content, I now get a good return on investment. There traffic has worked wonders for me. I buy about 5,000 visitors a month to split up between my 2 websites, and for every $10 I spend there I bring in another $30!

Your Questions About Doing Business Online China

Steven asks…
How does a small business trip to china work?
where is the best jeans wholesale market in China?
Hi everyone i’m planning my first trip to china to buy jeans from wholesalers and also connect with a reliable wholesaler so that i will not have to fly the next time i want to place an order. Does anyone know how such thing works from negotiating in china to money transfer from the US? whats the best destination for a non Chinese speaking person and the cheapest markets and factories for a small buyer like me stepping in with about 20K only. I have done some research online and it looks like Guangzhou may be a good place to start what do you think? I don’t like dealing with people i know only on the internet so an online order is not an option i would consider therefore i would love to have your advice about me flying there. Thanks for reading…:) 🙂 :), oh i was going to forget i’m from New York.

Jere answers:
Guangzhou is the best choice for clothes wholesale dealers, which has more than 20 wholesale markets and you can find any kind of clothes. The biggest and famousest one, Baima market is near GuangzhouTrain station. Better if you can speak Chinese to find good quality goods with good price in these markets, because most of people in these markets can’t speak English, and their major customers are domestic retailers or direct customers. 20K is very enough for your traveling and a batch of clothes. As for payment, you can choose wire transfer or west union for consideration of future. If you will purchase this time, you can pay cash, but you also need to prepare shipping at same time. You can also try to contact some factories online in future. You can try these websites www.alibaba.com, www.made-in-china, www.globalsource.com. By the way, I am not advertising. I just know these websites are famous for international trade. I do have knowledges about export, if you have some questions, i will try my best to answer you.
As for flying, you can choose flying to Guangzhou directly, or flying to HongKong where more flights from US go to. You can stay 7 days for free in HongKong by tickets to HongKong. Then you can go to Shenzhen border and take high speed train to Guangzhou.

Jenny asks…
What is the effect of communism in Chinese people’s lives and how is it so great for them,?
I’m not a traveler, but like i’ve heard that traveling to cuba is hard , north korea too… But then why can chinese people travel and do business with foreigners, and apparently also foreigners go to china.
Ok my second point is, i’ve talked to many chinese online, and they have said that their life is great and that communism is like their religion. this is from nice/everyday chinese universitty students. if it’s so great, then why do many countries see communism as bad, and why don’t we americans become communists? is communisms better for some chinese than for others, and could it be these Chinese who go to universities have a very different perspective on it then working people in the lowe r class?

Jere answers:
Do not pay attention to the answers given by the first two…they are ignorant and blindly nationalistic. As a Chinese who has lived in America for about 15 years, I have been exposed to large amounts of both cultures. American press is among one of the most opinionated types I have ever seen (the tendency is to omit information that gives face to other countries and only promote America). China nowadays is basically a capitalistic state; the communistic ceremonies are merely for the sake of show. People can criticize China for being too arrogant in accepting the fact that Capitalism works better for their society. Since China is such a large mass of land, there is a huge spectrum in the lifestyles of the populace. In Hong Kong, for example, the citizenry live in a very technology-influenced society (similar to that of Tokyo in Japan). If one were to travel inland, however, one would see that a poorer class of people would spring up more often. In short, there is no way to give a definitive answer to how people are being affected by Communism, even though such a system is practically dead.

Does anyone know of a reliable source to buy UGG boots wholesale?

I want to start a tea business. I need suppliers in Japan, china. India, How can I find them?
I need to find and contact Tea growers in different countries, I need reliable constacts that do regular business with the USA.

Jere answers:
I’d say just look them up online, they’re all over the place..

Donald asks…
How can I find reliable laptop & computer suppliers in China?
I am considering to start an online business importing products (computers, laptops, accessories etc) from China and selling online through website. Your suggestions are welcome.

Jere answers:
Advice: Unless you are prepared to fly to Beijing, Shanghai or any other big city in China to meet with your supplier and deal direct with the manufacturer, there is no such supplier that exists.
They do business much differently in China. I suggest you book yourself a ticket and just plop yourself down into an industrial park area to look around.
Find a US distributor of something you like (a product) and ask for some contact help.
Just going there is my best advice – and you will enjoy yourself. It’s an amazing place.

Your Questions About Business Online Courses

Nancy asks…
Whats a good job if I want to travel a lot?
I live at home with my parents currently. I’m in school working on my BA in business, taking online courses. Are there any jobs that I can get where I get to travel extensively? I would like to travel and see many different US cities. I live in a small town with very few jobs and even fewer advancement opportunities. I dont have a close bond with my family or anything that would otherwise hold me back. I think I would like to hit the road and travel while I finish my education. Are there any jobs you’re familiar with that will allow you to travel a lot and will provide travel accommodations ?
Please, no one say the circus or the military. 🙂 Oh, and please list only LEGITIMATE opportunities… no home-based business startup kits, selling weird insurance policies or other BS.

Helen asks…
What college is the best to take online courses for fashion merchandising?
I just wanted suggestions on what college is the best for online courses and for majoring in fashion merch. Thank you!

Jere answers:
The best college program will be one that is NOT online. There have been widespread reports of students hiring impostors to take online courses for them. The school has no way of knowing who is actually sitting at the computer. Is it the student, the impostor, or both? That means that ANY online program is considered questionable. Avoid ANY online schools or any for-profit schools, since they are not well accepted in the job market or for transfer to a legit university. Employers are known to automatically reject any job applicant that lists a for-profit school or online school. As a former job recruiter, I can say that we would never hire anyone with an online degree or anyone from a for-profit school.
If you want some of the convenience of online classes, try taking blended courses where some of the study can be done online, but all tests or lab work is done in an actual classroom where a photo I.D. Is required for entry. That helps prevent cheating. These types of classes are often available at public community colleges.
I know a woman who got her fashion merchandising degree at a large state university. She went on to become the manager of a woman’s clothing store, and eventually became the regional manger of a large chain of women’s clothing stores. She minored in business, so that was also an advantage in the job market. Look for a university that has regional, NOT just national accreditation. Regional accreditation is a far higher standard. Also look for public or non-profit colleges, since they are far more accepted in the job market. Avoid any for-profit schools like U. Of Phoenix, Kaplan, BrownMackie, Capella, ICS,APUS, Everest, PennFoster, FullSail, Ashford, etc.
There are tons of for-profit schools that try to lure girls into their “fashion” programs, but many are outright scams. See RipOffReport.com for reviews on colleges to avoid.

Steven asks…
How much do the average online course cost?
I was wondering how much online courses, if they cost more or less than actually going to campus. I’m not worried about how hard the criteria is, I just want info on the cost of a one year course.

Jere answers:
Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive that a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies.
Suggestions for selecting online schools
The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets.
1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting body’s website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information on the college.
2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course.
3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let it be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.
You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

Carol asks…
How do I take a proctored exam for an online course?
For example, I’m trying to take some business classes through UC Berkeley Extension, but it says “Proctored final exam”.
Since I live in Houston, I obviously couldn’t just fly to Berkeley, California to take my final exams.
How does it work for online courses?

Jere answers:
Yeah,
you need to get somebody who isn’t related to you and has at least an associates degree. I used my brothers girlfriend. You can use whoever, they just have to fill out a short form and the school confirms that they’re a college graduate

Mary asks…
Has anyone taken the Entertainment Business online course at Full Sail University?
I was looking into going to Full Sail and was interested in the Entertainmet Business online couse.. I looked at reviews for the school and I saw a lot of bad ones but most were for things like art design, film, and recording all that require a lot of hands on training.. I couldn’t find any reviews regarding the subjects that are more textbook style..

Jere answers:
Full Sail is not regionally accredited. That means that a lot of employers won’t see its degrees as real, and you won’t be able to transfer your credits to another college should you need to. I’d avoid them.

Ken asks…
What do you think of online shopping and paying in us$?
It is really shocking to discover that in a Business hub like Dubai until a few months a go there was no option to have online payment service in the local currency. I would like to know if for you as an online shopper would it be easy to pay in us$ or not. What do you think of the web sites, in Dubai, where you can pay only in us$.

Jere answers:
That is not true and it is not even a correct analogy here. The reason is because you order your items from another country then you pay with the currency of the country where the vendor is based. If you had been ordering from UAE based e-stores or souq.com your order is billed in UAE Dirham . And we have been doing this for years . Sorry that you are not informed.
If you are talking about PayPal that is a different story , they are US based too so they don’t have to offer other currencies. But some online shopping sites still offer ordering in other currencies as a convenience to their customers. Also Some UAE shopping sites list price not only in AED, but also in dollar and Euro too so no big deal.
If I order from Amazon in US I pay in US money . If I order from Australia I pay Australian dollar. From Japan I pay in Yen , from UK you pay in Pound , Germnay Euro etc . To pay in AED you need to order locally of course. That’s no secret. If you have a UAE issued VISA or MC etc your billed amount is in UAE Dirhams not Dollars.
What you said that it became available only a few months ago is not true. Else explain what you mean.

Daniel asks…
How to sell my online business?
Hi, I developed an online business, which launched 18 months ago. The business earned raffly 50,000 bucks over that time. At first place I paid for online marketing like AdWords, but I stopped that. Still, the online service is getting new clients, who pay $20 for a 6 months period of service. The majority of the clients is happy to prolong their membership. The operation costs reduce to the server hosting only which is ca $150 monthly. Now my question: I would like to sell the entire business including all source code and client contracts to a new owner. But I have no idea, what the reasonable purchase price could be and how to find a responsible and serious new owner for the business. Can you help?
Regards, Uwe
The $50,000 income is the gross turn over from day one to date. All costs are excluded. I spent a lot of money and time in actually developing, launching and advertising this project. The growth of the business heavily depends on the ability to attract more paying customers by smart advertising. The business deals directly with ebay auctions. So, any ebay user is a potential client of this service. After all investments that I made, the new owner will find a clean system, which he needs to grow as a marketing / sales person. Despite that, the buyer receives a stock of ca 1,000 customers who will make future payments all 6 months. My reason for the sale is the fact that I need to change my personal and business life. Hence I need a larger amount of money today, even if I can’t earn the fruits of my work in the future, which is only natural. It has nothing to do with my expectations in this particular business. I’d rather predict a nice future for it.
I was already thinking about selling to competitors, however I’m stuck with the purchase price I could suggest. I think, there are two components with the estimate – one is the stock of existing clients where some paid already $80 (4 periods a $20 in advance). This client base should have a specific value within the purchase price, I believe. The second component should be a revenue estimate that some skilled personcould achieve, when managing a working system. If I sold to a competitor, the system itself would have less value to him, since he already owns a system that looks exactly like this. So, I’m not sure, if the best value can be achieved with a person who can make money based on a flying project – by actually going out and getting more clients.

Jere answers:
For now, there are more questions than answers. You say, “the business earned roughly $50,000”. Is it revenue, operating income, or net income? Also, you say the operating costs only include hosting, which means that the new owner will either have to work in the business himself or hire someone and see their earnings reduced. Finally, what sort of growth for this business do you see in the future?
You need to prepare a comprehensive information package about your business, including detailed descriptive information and financial statements. You also need to clearly state your reasons for sale, otherwise people may think that you are selling the business because you expect it to fail soon.
The most likely buyers for your business are your competitors; they understand the industry and will probably give you the best price. There is a possibility that a large company is seeking to enter your industry, so they would jump on the opportunity to have an established operation, however small. In both cases, the buyer will probably value the acquisition based primarily on its growth potential.

William asks…
What kind of business is right for me?
Here’s the thing – my sister and i are sick of the corporate world. She is in business and knows about insurance and numbers. I am more artistic and creative. Is there some kind of business that we could start and go into for ourselves? [no comments about working with family please:)] I think a restaurant / soda shop would be great, but that means working 24/7. Something that could travel easily would be nice, like an online or service business of some kind. We both like our weekends and vacations (tho that probably wouldnt work well for a small biz just starting out. Anyone have any kind of suggestions? Oh yeah, we don’t have all that much money to start either. Good luck!

Jere answers:
The best business will depend on what you want, how you define to be interesting. A person may consider a pet sitting business to be the most exciting work in the world, while another person would rather watch TV than take care of dogs.
The key is to determine what your interests are, what you want to do, what is suitable for your lifestyle and your overall goals, and what can fit with your resources.
Dan Ramsey in his book “101 Best Home Businesses” has a chapter on how to find YOUR best home business. He suggests these 10 steps:
1. List 5 things you do best
2. List how others would benefit from what you do best
3. Find out how to give people what they want
4. Learn the value of your services to others
5. Find out who else offers similar services
6. Learn from the successes of others
7. Learn from the failures of others
8. Plan your own success
9. Make low cost mistakes
10. Enjoy what you do and how you do it
He then made suggestions on the best home businesses according to type. Here are a few of them:
Best Businesses Using Craft or Physical Skills
– antique restoration
– auto detail service
– carpet cleaning business
– errand/delivery service

Your Questions About Email Marketing Tips

Donna asks…
How to incentivize people to use your website?
Hello,
I am building a website where you can meet new people. It is not a dating site, but general place where you can find and interact with new people.
The problme I have is that I need to create incentives for people to come back and use.
Anyone has any smart recommendations how to incentivize people to use your website?
Marketing tips are welcome.
Thanks

Jere answers:
Keep Visitors Coming Back
Don’t just market to new visitors; market to return visitors as well! There are a number of ways to do this:
Update your web site at least once a month!
Make sure ALL departments are using the web site to communicate. Not just the marketing staff but, also, your volunteer manager, anyone who works with clients, your fund-raising staff, etc.
Have a place on the home page for announcements, upcoming events, links to blog updates, etc., so that a visitor to the home page can immediately see what’s new.
Create a subscription-based email newsletter to promote updates to your web site.
Create a way to allow people to receive updates about your web site via their RSS readers. For instance, you could create a blog at a free site like Forumer (it’s what I use for my blog) that you use only to announce events, new services, updates to your web site, etc., and then link these announcements to appropriate places on your web site. Then, anyone who wants to can put your web site announcement blog into their RSS reader, and automatically receive updates whenever you post such (the RSS feed address for the Jayne Blog: is http://blogs.forumer.com/rss.php?u=jcravens).
The key to successful Internet marketing is to accept that it is a never-ending, integrated process. New web sites and online discussion groups emerge and disappear regularly. You need to track with regular searches new sites with whom to link and new lists on which to announce your organization and its service. To market efficiently and effectively online your entire staff has to immerse itself, at least to some degree, in using the Internet regularly as part of their work.

Don’t Just Ask for Money!
Something much more should happen if someone clicks on your web site’s “Help Us” link than a message that asks only for money.
Mission-Based Groups Need Use the Web to Show Accountability
There has never been a better time for mission-based organizations to use technology to show their transparency and credibility, and to teach the media and general public about the resources needed to address critical human and environmental needs.
Handling Online Criticism
Online criticism of a nonprofit organization, even by its own supporters, is inevitable. How a nonprofit organization handles online criticism speaks volumes about that organization, for weeks, months, and maybe even years to come. There’s no way to avoid it, but there are ways to address criticism that can help an organization to be perceived as even more trustworthy and worth supporting.

Helen asks…
If russia’s wheat crops are damaged is this a good time to invest in wheat? Can anyone verify crop damage?
I got an email tip that russia’s (and other countries) have damaged crops from drought and other things. Can anyone verify this. If this is true, is this a good time to buy wheat stocks? The crop damage was compared to 2007 and 2008 crop damages which would have been a good time to make a little extra money on crop stocks.

Jere answers:
This info is already widely known, and priced into the market. You should also check and see if there are problems in the us. North Dakota, S Dakota, Kansas, also grow huge amounts of wheat. Canada’s western provinces also grow lots of wheat. Do we have huge surpluses here in north american to take up the slack?? Do you homework on these other wheat growing areas & world supplies.

Thomas asks…
Anyone have any good ideas for marketing a mortgage company in a high end beach city?
I have been trying to research some marketing ideas for a mortgage company I do work for. I am doing a newsletter and a email newsletter. My market is the high end homes on the southern california coast., mainly orange county beach cities. Anyone with any good ideas please let me know.

Jere answers:
I work in the mortgage industry. Whether you are marketing at the higher end or not it is the same. Newsletters are always good to let people know what is going on with your company. Also, you want to add other facts like put an article about decorating tips from an interior decorator and give them the byline. Send out a press release to the local newspapers telling about your company. There are many companies that you can use to send cookies or gifts to your clients. Mail out postcards in between newsletters and let them know you were thinking of them. Maybe attach a coupon to the postcard for a local restaurant. If there are golf courses around find out when the next big tournament is an sponser the tournament. Hand out golf towels with your company name on it.
Just because these are high end homes doesn’t mean that the people are above all other people and you need to market them in a completely different way. There are so many marketing ideas out there. If you want more ideas email me and I would be glad to chat with you.

I manage a small flight school and have been trying to get more people to come fly with us….my target market has been identified as already licensed pilots looking for a new adventure and further training…I want to market specifically my tailwheel program….Do you have any suggestions as to what would work best for doing this…such as flyers, or tri-folds, or TV adds, etc….We have around a $1000 budget so whatever we do will have to be cost effective.
Thanks!

Your Questions About Doing Business Online Malaysia

Michael asks…
Is it illegal not to take girls seriously in dating sites?
I had a couple of colleagues who told me about 2 years ago to do what they do. What they use to do is go on different dating websites and talk to girls and when the girls seem trustworthy to them they trade or do business transactions online. Usually the girls give them money or at sometimes homosexuals give them money and my colleagues invest it then return them the money back with interest. I have no idea how the hell they do that, to convince a stranger into letting them borrow money. They never use their personal information. I told this to a friend and told me this is illegal and i can be in serious trouble for not telling this to the authoritys. But how can i rat them out if i don’t even know where those guys live now, they all move. And what if they are dangerous people? but i will tell you what girls locations in the world they like targeting.

Even if they are not scamming them it might still be illegal depending on the nature of the investments and how they are done, but I’m not an expert on this area.
PS. It is not illegal to post a question numerous times, but it does get annoying having to scroll through identical questions from the same user.

Ruth asks…
what is the best type of business to be newly set up in Phillipines?
For example , there are 3 business forms in Malaysia: sole proprietorship, partnership or company. What is the pros and cons for each business form given operated in Phillipines.

Jere answers:
Philippines has the same forms of business structure as Malaysia: single proprietorship, partnership and corporation.
If single proprietorship, you simply need to register the business name with Department of Trade and Industry. DTI has a Business Name Registration System that you can do online http://www.bnrs.dti.gov.ph/bnrspub/
For partnership and corporation, you have to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission SEC http://www.sec.gov.ph . SEC now has a registration system online whereby a business owner can: http://www.sec.gov.ph/secireg.htm
– Verifying the availability of the desired name for corporation or partnership
– Reserving the verified name
– Accomplishing and printing the registration online without the need to buy the SEC forms
– Registering on-line of business organization
– Corporation, either stock or non-stock
– Partnership, either general or limited or professional
– Deposit the paid-up capital online
– Pay the appropriate registration fees online
– Receive notice of approval within the same day
As for the pros and cons of each business form, I suggest you check out this page which lists the tax rates of each business structure as well as the cost of business registration

Your Questions About Direct Marketing

Nancy asks…
What type of marketing channels does gatorade use?
Do they use indirect or direct marketing channels?
I believe they use both but i’m not compeltely sure.
Also who are their marketing channel members?

Jere answers:
You can buy direct from them I think from theri website – so direct.
But mostly they sell thro resellers so indirect model. Channel seems to be sports shops, retailers etc

Mary asks…
What are the marketing benefits to a business participating in a parade?
What are the direct marketing benefits of a small business participating in local parades such as Thanksgiving?

Jere answers:
It’s advertising the name of their business and getting it out in front of the people. Same as an ad on tv or in a magazine except they can seem like they are doing something good for the community and not asking for money or to buy their product. So it’s goodwill too.

Helen asks…
How does a business achieve Integrated Marketing Communication?
Integrated Marketing Communication: A management concept that is designed to make all aspects of marketing communication such as advertising, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing work together as a unified force, rather than permitting each to work in isolation.
Target stores, for example, how does Target achieve IMC?

Jere answers:
VERY long story short…
A company needs strong leadership at the top that supports IMC, and that develops company goals, outputs, quality requirements and incentives that allign consistently across all departments (very simple example, profit or volume, pick one.)
After the company has the c-suite interested in IMC, they still need to develop cross-functional teams and comprehensive communication systems between internal and external stakeholders to create strong horizontal allignment. It often takes a lot to break down corporate cultural barriers (sales and marketing tend to view each other as the enemy, so do competing ad agencies). Strong leadership, communication and consistent goals and incentives are essential for successful IMC.
Making a company TRUELY IMC is very complicated. That’s a really quick and dirty summary. I would recommend picking up some books from Kellogg School of Management or Don Schultz if you want to learn more.

Paul asks…
Is Catholicism like Big Corporation, While Protestant is like multilevel marketing?
Catholicism has the Pope and then deals out their rules down a chain of command. Their corporation is the church.
While protestants, with Martin Luther, thinks they can do it in direct marketing. Like Amway. Multilevel marketing. Selling directly person to person and each salesman is just as qualified?

Jere answers:
They’re both pyramid scams.

Robert asks…
What is the function of advertising in each step of a customer conviction chain?
What is the role of technology in building direct customer relationships?
What are the trends in self-service? Do you support these trends?
What are the major ethical issues presented by direct marketing?

Jere answers:
What is this? Like text book question….gag. Only you have the specific answers they are looking for…it’s right there in your textbook somewhere.
I can gues….
I dont know exactly what a customer conviction chain is… But i’d say advertising helps the customer feel more comfortable when decdiding because they assume someone spent the time and energy to make it “look” valid, it also draws them in in the first place.
The role of tech. Now adays is the ability to gather peoples information for one, and suposedly use it to be of better “service”. There are emails that are ligtning fast and best of all it allows for
“permission marketing” where the customer has the option to respond if needed…it’s very cheap, and effective, because more and more people use tech. As their primary means of communication. They have social networking sites, as well as shopping behavior reports, etc. Etc…
The trends in self service, are growing. Many people prefer the check out line that is peopless. They want to shop online and have it delivered to their door. Also, the business owner is able to have a process that would be done by an employee, instead done by each customer, and it only tkaes each of them a few seconds. Again i’m not sure though. I think that america is headed for an age of robotics personally.
Direct marketing invades privacy and people are often feeling bombarded and intruded on. “permission marketing” is much better for both.
I hope that helps. I spent too long on this already….read your book, and tell me darn answers 🙂

Your Questions About The Real Biz

Mary asks…
Where can I find for interested foreign real estate developer investors for Asia?
The property is strategically located in Cebu, Philippines. The property is ideal for a hotel, theme park, golf club or beach resort. It is of white sands and is in its entirely of flat terrain and more than a 100 hectares.
The beach front is about 1.5 to 2 km. long of white sands and with a mangrove area.

Jere answers:
Do what every other biz does. Buy a lead list of people who invest in real estate outsside usa and start smiling and dialing. But i will let you in on a known fact, people don’t invest, unless you have something you can send them. And in that somthing you send them, make sure you are spelling it out a – z. Everything. Why they should put their money in asia. Basically what are the returns. Whats the project, whos involved, experience level, track record etc. Good luck. Leads cost about $1-15 per potential investor and find yourself a good lead broker or you will be wasting your time.

Donna asks…
Can I start a business and use my Middle Name as My Legal Business Name?
Im not trying to have a hidden identity or anything, but I hate it when people mispronounce my first name. Its been happening for years. I want to use my middle name as my first name, when I conduct business. I want to be known by my Middle Name in the business world. I want to sign business contracts using my middle name as my first name and my real last name as my last name. Is this possible? How can I make it official?
Ex: If my name was, Harold John Fitz (Not really my Name)
and I wanted to be referred to as John Fitz in the biz world and sign biz contracts as John Fitz, Coud I do that…
If I posted this in the wrong category, please let me know where I should post it.

Jere answers:
Sorry to give such a simple answer but the answer is simply YES, you can as long as no one in your area has the same business name registered.

Paul asks…
Do i have the real Michael Jackson Memorial program and tickets?
The book is gold and he’s wearing a dark navy blue shirt and black pants. None of the pictures are cut off in the inside. With the 2 tickets I have they are green with blue boxes where it says the seats, rows, section, ect. And some of the info.. Seat- 214(and 215) Row-X Price-0.00 Orch Rght Center.

Jere answers:
Umm, apparently this is what it had to look like:
http://www.abry.biz/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/michael-jackson-ticket.jpg
http://www.kerrydean.com/pictures/michael-jackson-memorial-service-ticket-wristband-staples-center.jpg
So idk about the “dark navy blue shirt and black pants”. The actual ticket didn’t have his picture on it for the memorial. Maybe you mean the pamphlet-book that came with it? That had a picture of him on it.

Richard asks…
Why do first genation immigrants find it so diificult to obtain loans and financial help to start small biz ?
1st. generation immigrants provide 4 the dire need of the American labour market where the need is very critical. they are resolute in performing thier fuctions.

Jere answers:
I have not experienced anything like that. Fresh immigrant or 1st generation. You not being able to obtain loan or financial help is more likely caused by your inexperience in running a business or unable to reveal all possible risks to the lending institution.
Beside that majority of people go to their bank for a loan, which is the worst place to go to get money. Banks are structured to take your money not to give you any. Why, do you think they own the most expensive real estate in every down town worldwide?
What business are you looking at? What is your experience in running such a business? What are your financial results? How much money do you seek? How high is the risk of your business? What ROI do you offer? In what time frame?
If you can answer all these and many other questions honestly then you will have no problem obtaining ANY AMOUNT of money from an investor who will either become your silent or participating partner.
The best place to seek the investment for your business is from somebody who is already established in such a business, knows the ins and outs, all the risks involved, can be your coach and adviser and making profit on his investment at the same time.
Make me an offer.

Your Questions About Business Online Services Group

William asks…
How to find out if a company is minority owned?
I need to find out if the companys I used are minority owned, 51% owned by African american, Latin, women, gays ect. Is there a site where I can find out information about the owners of a company? I have a long list so I would like to search them online some how.

Jere answers:
I’m going to give the benefit and assume this is for some kind of sociology project. Because of the PC world we live in, it is highly unlikely any company (especially if they are publically traded) would gladly post that info on their business website in fear of being misconstrued as looking racist and loosing customers. You probably wouldn’t get anywhere if you were to contact any customer service reps (that would be info the company wouldn’t give to a minimum wage employee anyway). You’re best bet would be to contact the NAACP or another minority representative group. Good luck.

James asks…
How do you conduct market research?
I am looking in to building an online business and allot of references tell you to conduct market research but I don’t know how to. My business would revolve around making youtube videos and making money through affiliate marketing.

Jere answers:
Step1
Identify your research goal. Ask yourself if do you need to improve customer service or increase sales? Or are you looking for the right market for a new product?
Step2
To determine the demographics of your market use trade journals, marketing magazines, government reports and chamber of commerce market profiles.
These publications are helpful in providing data on purchasing trends that serve you a clue on the buying habits of your target market.
Step3
Be able to conduct mail and telephone surveys using randomly selected addresses and telephone numbers in your local area.
Step4
You should collect information from your existing customers. Using questionnaires, personal interviews and focus groups to get feedback on your products and services are of great help. If you do have a Web site for your business, start a chat room or message board and encourage customers to participate.
Step5
Try to observe customers at various points of contact in your business, including reception, sales, and customer service. Be watchful for glitches in your business operation and at the same time how your employees interact with the customers.
Step6
You should take time to analyze your sales records. If you know your best customers and most profitable products this can help you to better focus your marketing efforts.
Step7
Organizing the research data you have collected and be able to determine – or reevaluate – your marketing strategy based on the results of your research.

Donna asks…
What is a good way to earn money online?
I have a busy schedule with school, school activities, and a Theater group I’m in that runs all year round. Between practices and rehearsals, and everything else that goes on in my life I have no time for a job. What are some good ways to earn money online?
Advice how to avoid scam is greatly appreciated!

Jere answers:
My advice on avoiding a scam would be first to research the company that is offering this product or service. Look them up at the better business bureau and also see if any financial magazines have written about them. How long have they been in business? Are they doing well? Next look at the products and services they are offering. Are they things of any real value? Do they have value to you personally? Would you be willing to spend money on what they are offering today? You say you have no time for a job but to make money on the internet it not only takes hard work, it takes time.

Your Questions About Business Online Degree Programs

Mark asks…
what is the best type of business degree program to best prepare one for business ownership?
What is the best type of business degree program to best prepare one for business ownership?
I have a few ideas for starting a business, and want to take a helpful business program in college. I for sure want to minor in entrepreneurship, but i don’t know if i am supposed to take business management or business administration to better prepare me for business ownership.

Jere answers:
While both subjects will pretty much give you the proper skills to oversee an establishment and its employees, I personally think that a degree in business administration would be better if you want to own your own business. In fact, this article right here happens to agree: http://www.bestcollegesonline.com/business/online-business-administration-degrees/. This is because business administration will teach you a more broad aspect of the business industry, teaching you how to do everything from how to lead operations and projects, how to examine budgets (including how to come up with solutions to financial loss) and how to interact with employees (including how to maintain healthy relationships in the workplace and how to conduct proper interviews). You’ll even learn how to dabble in the marketing and advertising sector as well. Most importantly, this major will require you to take several computer classes—skills that every successful leader needs to possess. When you finally decide to start your own business, chances are you will be required to do most of the leg work until your business begins to make a name for its self. Thus, knowing how to do a broad range of task will be most beneficial.

Sandra asks…
can i take up online degree program and a diploma in a regular college at the same time?
i have enrolled in a diploma course for fashion designing in a regular college, i want to do a online degree program in fashion too? Can one do that?

Jere answers:
Technically you could, but it’s not going to help your or your resume to get two degrees that have so much overlap. In many instances, you’ll be paying to take the same class twice, so unless the two degrees are totally different, and people in your industry understand the difference I wouldn’t recommend it. If you want a second degree, why don’t you try something like business?
Also, you might want to wait until you’ve got a semester of your regular college courses under your belt. They are much more time consuming than high school courses (at most schools professors assign 3 hours of homework for every 1 hour spent in class, and in the arts, this almost always translates to a lot of time working on multiple projects at once) so you may decide that you don’t have time to do them both at the same time.

Sharon asks…
Any help with anyone who has a Business Administration degree?
So I am about to go to school finally. I have been in the Marines for over ten years and finally have time to attend school since I am deciding to get out at the end of this contract. I am looking for online degree programs due to when I get out I will need to work full time cause I have a family to support. I found a great school (Ball State University) and heard there business program is very good. Now with that degree is it really worth it and also help me land a good job? I really wanted Human Resources but I can not find any schools that are not for profit schools which I refuse to attend. Ball State is looked at very well in my area. I would like to know if I was to get this degree would it honestly benefit me or just land me a 25,000 dollar a year job? I have goals and places I would love to work specially with veterans. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Jere answers:
You should definitely consider attending an online college like Ball State University. Although some might say an online degree will be easier to earn, or will not be respected by employers, that is simply not the case… Especially when you attend a university that is already well-known and respected in your region.
Your degree WILL BE IDENTICAL to the degree conferred upon traditional brick-and-mortar students… Your future employer will never know that you attended online instead of on-campus.
Dozens of well-known, respected universities ranked in the Top 100 by U.S. News offer online programs (Penn State, Syracuse, Boston U, University of Illinois, and so on).
Personally, as you said, I would advise against attending any college that is synonymous with online learning. Attend a well-established university that also has a campus program.
In terms of what you can do with your degree. The first choice is clearly the university you choose to attend. If your university is well-regarded and accredited, you’re on the right track. The next step is to ensure that you keep your GPA up. It’s not easy to do with a full-time job and family, but employers WILL look at your GPA.
I started out at a local university (night school) and transferred to a respected online program (Business Administration, like you) — the university has a campus program, and is not synonymous with online learning. After graduation, I applied to an ABA-accredited brick-and-mortar law school and I was not only admitted, but received a scholarship.
So, the question isn’t really whether an online degree will take you where you want to go. It’s a matter of finding the right school (founds like you have), doing the work, making the grades, and then making the most of every opportunity that comes along.
Here’s a list of other universities with Online Business Administration degrees in case you’re still deciding. Some are more reputable than others, but everyone has their own idea of what school is well-known and what school isn’t (depending on where they live).

What are my education options for Immigrating to Canada?
I am an 27 year old single American male considering a move to Canada. I would like to apply as a skilled worker but I will first have to increase my education to do so. I currently only have an associates degree but would like to earn a bachelors or perhaps a masters degree in business. I’ve been considering an online degree program so I can continue working as I study. The particular program I’m interested in is regionally accredited in the US. Are these degrees valued in Canada? I’m also interested in studying in Canada if it would be better. I’d like any advice from anyone knowledgeable on what the best path of education may be. If it helps I’m looking mostly at the Vancouver area in BC. Thank you for your time.

Are the so called “10 month” online degree program acceptable to finding/getting an job? Is it worth it to have it? Other than their “accreditation”, is it acceptable to people looking for MBA graduate with an “online degree“?

Jere answers:
My personal experience as both a student and an instructor has been excellent in an online environment. Of course, I am only referring to fully accredited institutions.
I earned my MBA and almost finished my PhD through hybrid programs. Most of the course work was done via asynchronous online methods. If you think about graduate work is mostly research. I would not be teaching college and consulting all over without it. Plus, the paper does not say ONLINE. I would recommend pursuing a degree from an accredited institution that offers a campus experience as well. This does not mean that you will go to campus, but who will know?
I always have three recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring after all you have to defend your assets.
1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting bodies website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information of the college.
Do not let be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.
You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

Your Questions About Internet Business For Sale

my wife wants to start an internet business?
My wife wants to start an internet business .
and we would like to know where can we buy merchandise directly from the suppliers
to sale at retail?

Jere answers:
Just be aware that eBay sort of businesses are highly competitive these days, many people don’t succeed. There are a couple of businesses that specialize in providing certified wholesalers for the small businessman. They are not terribly sophisticated but they beat those $1 lists that could include fraudulent suppliers. Try a search for World Wide Brands and Saleshoo.
Drop Shipping is another way to go, you pass on sales to the suppliers who directly ship, without you ever handling the product, margins can be small.
If you weren’t aware you can also setup a store on Amazon fairly easily, though they take a fair chunk for sending you buyers.

David asks…
What can I do with these skills if I want to start my own internet business?
What I can offer:
1) Vector drawing, layout design, type design, logo design, composition with Adobe Illustrator.
2) Photo manipulation, photo retouching, layout design, texturing, layout design with Adobe Photoshop.
3) Advanced usage and complex animation with Powerpoint.
4) Experiences with outdoor/indoor, above/under the line print media.
5) Advertising ideas that I have filed up.
6) Game ideas too.
7) 5-8 hours a day prepared for home based internet business.
Please guide. Thanks a lot.

Jere answers:
You may consider offering tutorials, or a course for sale that you create in camtasia or any other comparable screen capture/video product. You basically sell your skills on video. Another idea would be to create a membership site where you offer content in regards to your skills and then would charge a monthly fee for that content. Or you could create and sell an ebook on let’s say “How to do advanced Powerpoint animations”. What else – well, my friend built an internet business through www.work-only-home.com, but I don’t think that would apply in your case. What about offering your consulting services to other internet businesses? There is a lot of money in business to business transactions. Another idea would be to type into Google for example “layout design” or “photo manipulation” etc. And see what type of services companies offer. Also check out the ads on the right side to get an idea what other products are offered in that market space.
I guess that’s about it and I wish you lots of ideas.

What is a business to business sales agent?
I just applied for a job, as a business to business sales agent. Firstly, I do not even know what this is. I fulfill all the requirements and stuff, but that’s it. Please telll me

Jere answers:
Hey first of all Congratulations for being selected.
We can classify all business sellings into three broad categories, these are
1. B-B (Business to Business)
2. B-C (Business to Consumers)
3. C-C (Consumers to Consumers)
B-B sellings are those in which an organization directly sells its products to another organization. For example any Automobile ancillary industry will be selling its products to another organization, it could be assembler or the marketer.
B-C sellings are those in which a organization targets end user as their consumers. For example FMCG product requires B-C kind of selling approach.
C-C is when at both ends only consumers are involved. Like selling of used goods through any mechanism. This mechanism could be Internet when both the consumers comes in direct contact without any mediator in between.
I hope this explanation is sufficient for you to understand the difference.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing

Sharon asks…
what is the average salary I should request as an Internet Marketing Associate in India?
I’m from Malaysia but I’m keen to work overseas as I believe the wages in other countries are much higher than in my own country. What is the average wages in India for an Internet-related position such as Internet Marketing Associate?

Jere answers:
A lot of the companies in America “outsource” to India because the pay is much lower than here in the “States”. There is an old saying that you get what ever the traffic will bear. IOW ask high and negotiate from there. If possible read the “Help Wanted” for India in your line of work. They may mention income, I don’t know much about India but I can always tell when I am speaking to some one there because of the accent. Assume that you can speak and understand good English.

What are some of the top ebooks related to internet marketing?
I heard about internet marketing from a friend. I wanted to expedite the learning process and purchase a system that will help me. I don’t necessarily care about the price, so long as the product works. Thanks!

Jere answers:
That really depends on the reader. Your better off checking out a directory which rates eproducts based on user feedback. There are a bunch of those online. I recently purchased a recent Ewen Chia product and its been doing wonders for me the past few weeks! I found it on the site ill mention in my sources. Just click on internet marketing>payperclick to find the Ewen Chia product I bought. But keep in mind there are plenty of products on that site. Just buy one and work it. I’ve used a few of the products listed there with great success! Good luck!

i just started a small business and want to advertise my business online for free and have it actually SHOW UP on a search engine like GOOGLE.
are there any WEBSITES you’d recommend that I try advertising in that are free.? any suggestions?

Jere answers:
There are a lot of place you can advertise for free online. The only problem is that a lot of the advertising is untargeted and isn’t going to help your small business.
You can advertise in Craigslist under the small biz ads section for the area in which you live.
If you have a website for your small business try digging the website and using relevant keywords for the subject. Also bookmark your small business site online and try to get backlinks to the site. In the long run doing SEO for your small business website will bring you the most free advertising.

Jere answers:
Advertise your site on Craigslist.org. Craigslist postings give you quality backlinks to your site, which will improve search engine results. Craigslist is also free to post ads on and has over 6 billion page views a month…alot of eyes!
The key to high search engine rankings is links, links, links. In the mean time I would highly recommend posting a few ads to craigslist in your most appropriate category. It will give you quality traffic for sure.

Start with Google maps. This is an effective way to get you on googles search engine. Yahoo will be incline to pick it up as well. You have to have a google account, on the front page you will see a business link in small writing. Once in there go to the map section. I did this for my son and his pokemon cards and it worked well. I would also recommend investing a little in Yellow pages ( Yellow Book) if you have a local business

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Association

Nancy asks…
Does this news article about textbook piracy make any sense?
A textbook case of piracy
By Alex Beam
Globe Columnist / September 9, 2008
I was heartened to learn that college kids are wielding the same Internet piracy tools they used to bring down the recording industry to download textbooks. Although the textbook oligopolists are fighting back mightily – the Association of American Publishers uses Covington & Burling, a take-no-prisoners law firm in Washington, D.C., to hunt down malefactors – there are at least two sites still around offering books: Textbook Torrents tends to be shut down, and moves around the Web, but the last time I checked, thepiratebay.org was offering such books as – well, you’ll see.
As a writer, how can I support this? I should be an absolutist on copyright protection for all books, magazines, and newspapers. But I’m not. The publishers have disgraced themselves, and they are paying the price. Three-hundred-dollar textbooks in the hard sciences are not unusual, and the companies are selling to a captive audience. Hundred-dollar add-ons, masquerading as digital workbooks, or problem-solving sets, are not uncommon.
Publishers love to put out bogus “new” editions to drive a stake though the heart of the used textbook market, which was gaining its second wind at online auction sites. It’s not as if calculus changed since Newton invented it, is the rallying cry you hear from student activists.
How do I know textbook publishers are nothing but pirates in pin-striped suits? Because when the fast-buck artists take over a company like Houghton Mifflin, they never talk about how proud they are to be publishing Philip Roth and J.R.R. Tolkien. They know they are going to make a killing in the profit-choked textbook division, which gorges on the goodwill of parents who want their children to be properly equipped for college courses.
Now most textbook publishers are going digital, and Amazon is promising a larger-format Kindle reader for the student market. The publishers say that iTexts, which often cost less than $100, save students money. But their opponents, led by a coalition of Student Public Interest Research Groups, point out that the password-protected digi-texts put the sword to the used-book market so despised by the publishers.
Congress has gotten into the act, legislating more “transparency” in textbook pricing in the just-passed Higher Education Opportunity Act. It looks like a jumble of half-measures to me. If it had any teeth, the publishers would be squawking madly.
A young Northeastern University student named Shawn Fanning wrung billions of dollars of excess profits from the record companies when he invented Napster. Yes, it’s true that recording “artists” now gouge young people 10 times more aggressively at the concert turnstiles than they ever did at Tower Records stores, which no longer exist around here. But Steve Jobs found the right price point for music at iTunes. Between the pirates and the publishers, we’ll find our way to the right price point for textbooks, too.
Now it’s time to arbitrage . . . tuition.
Don’t steal this book
Inevitably, a reviewer will call John Hanson Mitchell, author of “The Paradise of All These Parts: A Natural History of Boston,” a latter-day Henry David Thoreau, not necessarily a compliment. Call him what you will – in real life, he edits the Massachusetts Audubon Society magazine Sanctuary – he is a smart guy, walking around, paying attention. I’d name his genre nostalgic realism; Mitchell certainly knows where this city and its many peculiar institutions come from, and he understands modernity as well.
I love that his brother owns a boat named after Richard Henry Dana, and that it doesn’t have an engine – there’s Boston in a nutshell. I think this book will take its place next to Walter Muir Whitehill’s “Boston,” with engravings by Rudolph Ruzicka, as one of the treasured Hub tomes of our time.
Able was I . . .
Ere I saw Alaska? Send in your Sarah Palin-dromes! A palindrome is a phrase that makes sense read forward and backward – e.g., “Madam, I’m Adam.” I think there’s a lot to work with here: Is Levi vile? Close, but no cigar. I’ll buy the winner a used copy of the kind of book that Governor Palin wanted to keep out of her local library – “Huckleberry Finn,” perhaps.

If the housing market wasn’t monopolized by certain groups, would housing prices & sales commissions be lower?
I ask the Q after reading this article: Settlement reached for online real estate agents
Tuesday May 27, 5:10 pm ET
By Lara Jakes Jordan, Associated Press Writer
Justice Department forces Realtors group to stop blocking online access of home listings
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department gave a boost Tuesday to online real estate brokers — and potentially their clients — by forcing new industry policies that give Internet-based agents access to home listings they were previously denied.
The tentative settlement, which still requires court approval, could save consumers thousands of dollars when buying a home.
Online real estate agents often charge discounted commission fees and let buyers review listings at their own pace.
For years, however, Internet-based brokers have complained that the National Association of Realtors wanted to let real estate agents exclude some of their listings from their online competitors, many of whom offer discounted prices.
To see full article goto—-> http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080527/realtors_settlement.html
“The presupposition of the article is that **SOME ** homesellers **LIKE ME** can negotiate with the same expertise and lack of emotional attachment that licensees can” SOME people do not need the services of a middleman! America is about responsible freedoms. Some people do not need the baby sitter!
“are the ones who determine the final selling prices” Who has implied or stated differently! At least I respect the opinion of the members of the industry who self-identify themselves. Some people need the services of an agent and need to pay for it. But the option, the freedom, the choice to go solo or to negotiate lower commissions is not to be infringed upon or limited by phony excuses. The internet is a new source of doing business more economically and I think everyone should adjust to it! Where are the Randians(Atlas Shrugged fans) when you need them!

I appreciate answers that show respect for my intelligence. Denigration by insinuation or insults however is infuriating and a very poor way to make a case for your position after you A the Q I asked!!
“Yes, commissions will be lower, but housing prices may not be.” well I might agree but aren’t commissions deductions to the selling price by custom? I have split them 50/50 in negotiations as you agents and realtors do by custom between the listing broker and the brokers involved in the sale/purchase!

Jere answers:
I run a full service brokerage firm and a flat fee, for sale by owner assistance, online firm, the type that this article refers to.
The presupposition of the article is that homesellers can negotiate with the same expertise and lack of emotional attachment that licensees can. By that metric, commissions seem like a waste.
Here’s the problem: most homeowners are awful salespeople. They just suck. They’ll trail people around the house, pelting them with mostly useless information (call me crazy, but I bever saw a buyer say “I’ll take it!” after a 10-minute sermon on how the guy replaced all his sewage pipes with PVC), they are notorious for overvaluing their own property, and they lack the objectivity to negotiate rationally.
They often don’t get that their weekend handyman, jury-rigged, noncode “improvements” cause title problems and hurt value, and often think that just because they do OK on ebay that they can outwit a sharp attorney or broker representing the buyer.
We just had one of these guys close on a sale for $670,000 after almost a year on the market and after sabatoging previous deals for well over $725,000. His commission line item was lower, but he lost $40,000 overall because of his own hubris.
I could save a bunch of money practicing dentistry on my own kids too, right? How can an online broker speak with a baseline of competence about asbestos in a basement, a leaky gutter, or granite countertops they have never even seen? This business requires human beings on the scene, period.
You get what you pay for. And all those studies that say that people listing with a full-service broker net more money than a for sale by owner are not realtor propoganda. I have seen it firsthand for years now. People need to understand that for a transaction involving hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions that they risk disaster without a professional representing them.
All the bad realtor stories I hear, by the way, usually involve an atrocious choice of agent, like a part time buddy from work or cousin Joe. You have to get a full time agent with a track record and references. For every guy who sold his house in a week without an agent I can show you 10 people who had no business representing themselves and screwing up royally.
I don’t disagree with the justice department’s decision, however. People should be free to risk screwing up. It’s the American Way.

Michael asks…
Why is hating America cool these days?
OK, I get it. I hate Bush too. I hate our stupid Republicans, our undereducated high school dropouts, our ignorant nationalists, our miserable healthcare, our violent and invasive foreign policy, our wasted tax dollars, and probably everything else you hate about America.
The difference? I don’t hate America. Just some things about it.
Everywhere I go online I see someone starting a big “I hate America” party, talking about how dumb Americans are and how we’re going to blow ourselves up “LOL LMAO OMG ROFL” and all those colorful internet chat emotive phrases. I am not amused by this.
Let’s lay down some facts about America:
Fact: Americans are some of the greatest innovators in history; we invented the telephone, the TV, the internet, the satellite, the radio, the light bulb, the nuclear bomb, the telegraph, the sewing machine, the computer, the refrigerator, the automobile, the motorcycle, the vacuum cleaner, TOILET PAPER (you’re welcome), the hearing aid, the skyscraper, the smoke detector, the assembly line, the air conditioner, the airplane, masking tape, scotch tape, duct tape, the photocopier, the defibrillator, the cell phone, the video game, the LASER, the artificial heart, the Hubble Space Telescope, etc.
We also are the only country to reach the moon, the oldest thriving democracy on earth, and even in our worst recession ever we’re still the most powerful economy in the world. Hell, our founding father (Benjamin Franklin) discovered electricity. We also set the standard for the modern free market, which many countries around the world still follow.
The average IQ in America is sadly below average (98) according to most pollsters, but I’m proud to say in my home state, the average is 102. The average in London is 100, and the average in Canada overall is 97. Not that this proves anything; America is so large and diverse in comparison to these other nations that it is expected that there would be a huge discrepancy. What’s interesting is that in China the average is also 100, which I find absolutely unbelievable considering the 300 million illiterate peasant farmers and factory workers that have yet to see a day in school.
Another thing interesting is that a clear majority of Americans just elected a black president named Barack Hussein Obama, showing that we as a country have begun to move out of our irrational fear of Islam and Black influence.Obama, while not Muslim, has been accused of being Muslim. To that I say: so what? I have a problem with that way of thinking and I shun those who are so anti-Islam that they would attempt to defame someone by association with a non-christian religion. I am not alone in this either.
America has committed some terrible atrocities throughout history. We’ve occupied countries and colonized in a manner much against the wishes of our founders, but that doesn’t mean every American is evil and/or stupid, or has a drive for world domination. Some of us want peace, cooperation, and progress. Some of us want equal rights afforded to all citizens regardless of gender, race, sexuality, religion, etc.
If you’re one of the people out there who has posted something anti-American, especially with no real basis, I hope at some point you realize that what you’re doing is not helping to solve the problem. I hope you realize that it isn’t “cool” to be racist. I have traveled abroad in many countries and value my experiences and my friends from around the world, and I like to think I changed some of their stereotypes and perspectives about Americans, just as they did for my views of Russians, Germans, Chinese, English, Danish, Latin American, Japanese, Dutch, African etc. All of the people I have met from other great nations have touched me in some way and I have refused to judge you based on the failures of your government, economy, or even your people. I hope you can give me the same courtesy as I say this: God bless America. God bless the whole damn world.

I feel compelled to clarify something: I meant no offense to Chinese people when I mentioned the 300 million people without formal education who live in rural areas and villages. I do wish, however, that they would be given education. What I meant to demonstrate in that statement was that it is pretty unlikely that, unless the average Chinese person in the city has an IQ of like 120, that the massive amount of underprivileged rural workers should be holding back the national average considerably.
John M –
I would like to invite you to edit your answer. At this time I am unable to find a way to respond to the tone you chose to use. I see that you harbor some hatred for America, but I would like to point out that this hatred should not be directed at myself, as it has been in your statement. By saying “you”, you are equating myself and all Americans together, as if we have the same opinions. This is obviously not the case.
Thank you for your post, and I look forward to your revision.
Isn’t it good? –
I’m sorry you chose not to read further. As for the list of inventions, I can assure you I am not mistaken.
Please see the following sources.
http://www.150.si.edu/150trav/remember/amerinv.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_inventions

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_was_the_first_tv_invented_in_america
http://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/auto.html (America invented the first successful gas-powered car but others invented related things… another similar example is the refrigerator. The US invented the first working refrigerator through Oliver Evans but others went on to perfect it)
Obviously in the Manhattan Project the US invented the nuclear bomb.
What else in question?
By pointing out inventions I was not intending to claim ultimate supremacy for America in science and tech. I just think people should shut up about Americans being stupid. There is no need to be defensive. Everyone can name a boatload of contributions to science and technology that their countries have made, of course, and I don’t want to cheapen that. You’re right, Germans invented an electric 4 wheeled vehicle, but it wasn’t effective or marketable. American’s invented the first commercially available gas-powered car. I believe I have a website about that in my sources just above.
I am fully aware of the atrocities my people have committed, but hatred based on the past doesn’t get anyone anywhere. If you’re bent on hating me or my country because of the choices of politicians decades, years, or even months ago, I’m sorry. I cannot help you. I just would love to see a world not despising me solely because of my race/nationality.
Katerina P, much of that last post was addressed to you, however I also have to point out when you say “God bless America? Why not God bless…”
If you actually read the whole body of my original text you would see I said “God bless America. God bless the whole world” or something that effect. I am proud to American despite the problems with my country. I believe we have the potential to change.
I voted for Kerry in 2004 and, had I been old enough, I’d have voted for Gore in 2000. I actively protested in the streets the whole time Bush was in office, even in my early teens. Does this make me “responsible for the governments we elect”?
Many of the points you make seem good, but I’m afraid much of them are based on misunderstandings of my intent and what I have been saying. I know the whole world has made countless contributions to every field before and after America. It is not fair to say that American invented everything, because it’s not true. I merely tried to prove a point.
luvwater… hahaha I DID study our invention of the toilet paper in grade school. And I think it may be more important than when Morse invented the first working telegraph, or when Scotsman Alexander Graham Bell gave us the research we needed to invent the telephone, or when our people invented the first TV. Toilet paper is the quintessential achievement of man.

Mary asks…
Does anyone have a link to a good online marketing site or free internet marketing workshops?
I have a small business and I’m trying to generate more traffic to my website. The thing is, there is so much information online it’s hard to filter through it. If someone has had success with an online marketing site or company, shoot me a link. Or even internet marketing workshops or classes in the orange county, california area that you’ve attended. Thanks.

Jere answers:
Try Technology Brokers Association. I just went to one of their free workshops and let me tell you – they are very imformative. Crisantos Hajibrahim, the workshop instructor can give you a lot of insight on how to market your business online. Here’s an excerpt from their site:
“Crisantos will teach you:
-how Google AdWords works and little known secrets to get the most out of your Pay Per Click budget
– Google Analytics, the eyes and ears of your website without which you can’t hope to succeed with your Internet strategy
– how Google’s Webmaster tools are essential for Google Search success
– the power of Video and YouTube marketing
– the truth about traditional SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques and cheaper yet more effective alternatives for small businesses;
– online Drip Marketing, tracking Craigslists, and so much more… ”
I don’t know anything about website maintenance so i’m having them install Google Analytics for me on my site. They’re also helping me with a marketing plan tailored for my business.
Workshops are held twice a week in Huntington Beach, CA.
Here’s their website address where you can register online www.technologybrokers.org

Ken asks…
Do you know of any free business marketing methods?
I need to promote my business, but don’t have a big budget for advertising. I’m not terribly internet savvy either, so I’m not sure if I’m missing out on possible free internet marketing opportunities? Any ideas? Is facebook a good place to market a business?

Jere answers:
First thing Identify who your target audience is then do the following
1. Branding – logo and business card very important the logo will determine if people want to be associated with you or your brand
4. Get yourself a website if you haven’t already does not have to be huge site but make it slick, easy on the eye get a good logo done make sure the site is reflective of how you feel the quality of you styling is…services, seasonal special offers,
5. Direct marketing…you can either buy data from a data agency or sift for it online we are not talking about 000’s of pounds here but more like 16p per record try and get contact address email phone (mobile preferably). Also for your existing customers to ensure you keep them get them to fill out a satisfaction card after each cut. Store all this in excel a spreadsheet this now will start giving you a direct relationship with your customers. You can notify them of special offers, reminders they might need a software update and you can send all this via email, text and post i would prefer the text and email that way you can send them to your website and keep your costs low. This way you will have a pool of existing customers to ensure they stay with you… Remember your marketing so will your competitors. Then you also have a pool of potential customers remember buy data specific to your market (business, 190-100 employees, etc).
6. Association – maybe with a complimentary product, where if they send anybody over to you they get a % off and vice versa but remember this association need to be specific to your business and should complement what you do. Also look at what your competitors are doing and imitate the best bits.
The intensity and frequency of your marketing will be determined by how busy you are. They key thing to remember is that your core competence is your development skills that needs to be consistently good to ensure your marketing works…and marketing has a habit of biting back where people are not delivering on what they promise on their marketing.
Reputation is imperative if you stay on top of your game and stay in tune with the latest developments in the industry and are consistently improving your skill levels then your customers will not want to go anywhere else.
The above can be the crux of your marketing other elements may come from your research and planning not all the points need to be implemented look at the timing and look at the budget. Also ask your customers how do they prefer to be communicated with that should narrow down your marketing effort.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Online

William asks…
How do I start a business rating (pics or pans) business online. Targeting local businesses and servces?
I want to have a special section for seniors also.
This service will be like an “over the backyard fence” referral or “panned” comment service. Comments by persons who have experiences from said business and or service.

Jere answers:
You would first need to reserve a website ( usually buying a web address) and design or hire a web designer for it. What you’re proposing would be highly interactive, yet would need to be quite user-friendly, so I wouldn’t at all recommend doing it on your own without experience. A good web designer will lead you through the naming, site design, logos, colors, and listing it in different search engines so it can be easily found by people who don’t have the exact address to type in each time. The site would need continuous updating and you would like to track hits (know how many people have visited the pages), so you would likely need to continue to pay the web designer for these services.
I would caution you as to liability for what you intend to do. You may wish to first legally incorporate as a group, rather than undertake this in your name, for liability purposes. If you are the owner of the name and site (by virtue of paying and upkeeping it), it is possible you could be held personally responsible for the comments inserted onto the site pages. It would be very, very difficult to monitor the thruthfulness and impartiality of each entry, if you allow them to be made unabated by visitors, and even if they are true, but are unflattering , the comments could land you in the middle of a lawsuit. For these reasons, and probably even more I’m not noting, you may wish to consult a lawyer before ever undertaking the project. If not, you could be held liable for suits, and your personal assets could be attached as damages.
Your ideas are good, but will require professional assistance to both be done safely and well. The barest simple of start-up costs of the legal and web consultations will likely run over a thousand dollars, so be prepared.
I’m sorry to sound grim, but my own experience in setting up a social service directory (wasn’t even interactive, as you are describing) online leads me to caution you.

George asks…
Do you think it’s wise to start a business online before physically setting up shop?
Do you think it’s a financially smart idea to start an online store to see how well the products sell before leasing/renting/buying a physical space to sell your products? Would it save money in the case of if what you’re offering doesn’t sell as well as you thought it would, you didn’t waste months of rent, labour costs, etc? What would be the downsides to starting an online store first?

Jere answers:
Yes of course it’s a smart idea.to open an online store need less money than open a real store. After your online store begin to get known by the costumer you can begin to prepare the physical store. You can open the web site i write in the source box to start your online store.
Hope that it’ll help. Good luck 🙂

David asks…
How can I do business online?
I am an artist, and I recently found out that people really like the bags that I design. How could I, as a teenager, start a business online? I’m getting my mom to help out also. Do I need to set up a bank account? If the business doesn’t go well, could I cancel the account? Please help.

Jere answers:
You have a couple of options.
1. You can sell your items on etsy.com This is a great place for selling handcrafted items. You’ll need a paypal account to be able to make sales. Your mom can set that up for you since you said that she would be helping you.
2. You can set up a website where you feature your handcrafted bags and post pics to pinterest. Create a pinboard based off of what popular keyword terms people are searching for online.
You can find out what people are searching for online when it comes to handbags by going to google and type in the bag name or category it fits in. As the suggestions come up then create a pinboard with that name on it.
Or you can go to googles keyword tool and type in your bags name and see how many people are looking for it. Make sure you check off exact match on the left side of the screen. From there choose a phrase that has decent searches in the global category. Then create a pinboard with that phrase as it’s title.
3. You can go to a site called the fancy.com. It’s similar to pinterest except for one big difference. People can buy your product right there on the spot. I would suggest if you are going to use the fancy.com them you place your focus on the presentation of the product. As I teach with all of my clients, it’s the presentation that matters. Of course you want to give a quality product. But how you present that product matters much more.
Good luck!

Jere answers:
Find something to sell (or make something), put it on a website aimed at selling things, such as Ebay, or Etsy.com Use part of the $50 to cover auction fees and possible materials if you make something. See if it sells, if it does make or get more of those items.

Your Questions About Business Online Games

Mark asks…
Do I need a business license to run an online game?
I’m working on an online game and want to know if I need a business license to sell subscriptions to the game. And what other licenses would i need?

Jere answers:
Yes, you do need a Business license to run a online gaming website, and you need a copyrights, and a trademark, and an LC, and if its by payroll you will need a tax ID.

Donald asks…
Would a netbook be good for web surfing and spreadsheet management?
I am looking at some of the inexpensive netbooks, and trying to figure out if it is worth it. Here is what I need t to be able to do:
Surf the net
Use Y! Messenger
Use basic spreadsheet program for home business
Play some online games (pokerstars.net, yahoo games, etc)
I know some of them don’t use windows, but use a different OS (linux?). Would this be an issue with what I am wanting to do?

Jere answers:
Surfing and games, yes. Spreadsheets, no. The screen is too small and you’d have to magnify the spreadsheets quite a bit to work with them which would cause it to be very slow to work with them.

Ruth asks…
How much truth is there to the real money people earn from online games such as Second Life and others?
I’ve always heard of these people who make a ton of money through online games Second Life and others. Has anyone ever heard any truth to these and if so what games were they connected to?

Jere answers:
It’s true. I know some folks in Second Life that are making a lot of real life money in the game, but for these people it’s more than just a game. They have their own business set up in Second Life and they treat it like a job. They also put in a lot of time and money keeping up the business.
If you’re serious about making money you can do it, but just realize that it isn’t as easy as snapping your fingers and the cash rolls in. It requires a lot of knowledge about content creation or ingame real estate and you need to spend the hours supporting your business just like you would spend time at your real life job.

Nancy asks…
Where can I get a list of video game wholesalers?
I’m looking to start a business online selling games and I cant seem to find anyone that has GREAT prices. I would like a minimum purchase of under $1000. can anyone help?

Jere answers:
Can find really good price comparisons on http://koliko.co.uk to buy things when they are on great sales and then mark up for later.

Maria asks…
What are some good online games(websites) on stock market?
I want to play online game on stock market(like pool live, farm ville in Facebook). Game must be based on real life stock market scenario. So please give me some good web sites (with good numbers of users). Thanks in advance.

Jere answers:
If you look on these websites, many of the games have to do with business or the stock market (what you are looking for) are here.

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Jobs

Chris asks…
How can a butterfly stand out in a crowded job market?
I am bright, creative, and have had more jobs than I can count. I have supported the careers of two husbands without regard for my own career path. I have move around, jumping from one job to the next. I have had jobs with incredible responsiblity and little pay.
Now I’m 45, divorced and unemployed due to medical issues and difficulty to adapt to my former employer’s office culture. My self-esteem is at an all-time low. What can I do to get in the race?

Jere answers:
When we lose our jobs or lose our status the thing to remember is not to get upset, become bitter or resentful, or lash out and blame others. After we have dried our tears, we have to bounce back, accept the loss, reinvent ourselves and move on.
Perhaps, we need to change our attitudes and shift our paradigms; perhaps we need to confront our values, or learn new skills. Perhaps, we need to get honest feedback on our performance, on our work behaviors and attitudes to identify our strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement. Perhaps we need to retool ourselves. Perhaps we need to leave our present organization when we are no longer happy and fulfilled in what we are doing.
When we find ourselves in this situation we have to plan our career. Career planning is a deliberate process of knowing WHO we are so that we can be sure WHERE we want to go or WHAT we want to be at some defined point in the future. It involves an analysis of career/job options that are new to you. Career analysis is based on accurate, valid and timely information from — reading, interviewing primary resources persons and direct observation of those persons while doing their job.
Here are some sites, which can help you plan your career.

William asks…
How long should it realistically take to find a good job in your field?
I recently moved to Chesapeake, VA so my spouse could accept a better job and I have been searching for a job for a month now. I have worked in Operations and Logistics for over a decade and am looking for similar work. I have my resume posted on Monster, Career builder and several other job sites. I set aside 3-4 hours a day to search various companies websites and apply for jobs yet, I have had NO feedback. I think that I should have gotten at least a couples nibbles. Having never been unemployed before, I am feeling very discouraged and my self-esteem is really starting to nosedive. My brother says that I should expect a job search to take 3-6 months. I think thats crazy. Am I being unrealistic or is he?

Jere answers:
Your brother’s timeline is reasonably accurate – for perm jobs.
Finding direct-hire positions is a slow process as companies tend to be very careful about whom they hire. What you should/could do is look for contract-to-hire positions. Many, many companies prefer that route as it gives them (and you) a chance to “try each other out”…I call it rent-to-own (LOL). If you expand your search to include that option, you will be looking at about a 2 month time frame, vs. 3-6 months. However, and this is a big “however”, you are running up against a time-factor. In about 3 weeks, the job market is going to take a major nose-dive due to holidays. Companies generally put jobs on hold from mid-Nov to mid-Jan.
Work with as many recruiters as possible. This will cast the widest net and will get the most response.
Also, go through your profiles on the job boards with a fine-tooth comb. Look for spelling and grammatical errors, consider re-wording parts if you are not absolutely sure about them. Also, make sure that your resume is formatted on the boards in an easy to read fashion. You should ALWAYS have a formatted version and a plain-text version. The formatted versions don’t translate well to text fields.
This is also going to sound a little rudimentary but double and triple check your contact information on the boards. You may have an incorrect phone number or email address listed.

Betty asks…
What is the direct route (job and undergrad major required) that will guarantee a high salary in the future?
ANYTHING BESIDES MEDICAL FIELD! (do NOT say anything like doctor, dentist, surgeon, chief executive officer, etc) SPECIFIC job and undergrad major required.

Jere answers:
1. Experience – without experience you won’t even get in the door. Land a solid internship and start making those network connections.
2. Solid networking – knowing the right people at the right time is great.
3. Skill – you could have a degree in math, experience in accounting but if you just struggle at math, then you aren’t going to excel. You have to have SKILL and a PASSION for your career.
4. Forward-thinking attitude – start plotting your career from the start gate. Do you want to be a CEO? Then fine…what skills do you need to be a CEO? Do you want to be VP of marketing? What skills do you need? Actually take time to research (and call actual people in those positions – hey, more networking) and figure out what you need. A title isn’t as important as a skill. For example, let’s say you’re in business and are working with marketing right now. You volunteer for a project in video production, which will give you more experience in that. You volunteer for a project in sales, which again gives you more experience. The more you can refine your experience to what your goal is, you’ll put yourself above the competition. What does someone in your future position need to have, and what would the competition look like? You’ll need to prepare to prove yourself, even if you’re young.
5. Reality. You won’t make $50K right away. You’re going to have to climb the corporate ladder.
6. As for majors: Double major in business or finance and Spanish. Spanish will give you a head start (and a premium salary in some careers) while a business or finance degree is basic enough to get you plugged in nearly anywhere. If you are good at math, try engineering.

Michael asks…
What are some innovative/ creative ways to get a job interview?
I really want to ‘wow’ the HR department, because there are so many resumes flooding the job market I’m trying to come up with a way to get the attention of the company. I really want to stand out. If you have anything HELPFUL to say I would really love to hear it. The position I’m interested in is an advertising coordinator. I have something in mind, but I want to see if you all come up with something better. Thank you in advance for your input.

Jere answers:
If you have an interview set up, find out who it is with, then make sure that you know their way to work.
Set up a single day ad campaign where they see your name everywhere, for instance if they stop for coffee pay the counter guy a couple bucks to put your card in the guy’s bag (or tucked in the sleeve of the Starbucks cup). Put up a sign which he will see which touts your merits. You can figure out more, I’m sure. Basically, you’re looking for a job coordinating advertising, so coordinate an ad campaign for yourself directed specifically at him.

Sandra asks…
What type of marketing careers are out there?
I will be graduating from college with a degree in Marketing and Media Management come this fall and I would like to know what my options are as far as a (good paying/exciting) career.

Jere answers:
According to the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook:
Advertising, Marketing, Promotions, Public Relations, and Sales Managers
Keen competition for jobs is expected.
College graduates with related experience, a high level of creativity, strong communication skills, and computer skills should have the best job opportunities.
High earnings, substantial travel, and long hours, including evenings and weekends, are common
Marketing positions (see detailed charts at website for median salaries for each title)
Advertising managers oversee advertising and promotion staffs, which usually are small, except in the largest firms. In a small firm, managers may serve as liaisons between the firm and the advertising or promotion agency to which many advertising or promotional functions are contracted out. In larger firms, advertising managers oversee in-house account, creative, and media services departments. The account executive manages the account services department, assesses the need for advertising, and, in advertising agencies, maintains the accounts of clients. The creative services department develops the subject matter and presentation of advertising. The creative director oversees the copy chief, art director, and associated staff. The media director oversees planning groups that select the communication media—for example, radio, television, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, or outdoor signs—to disseminate the advertising.
Promotions managers supervise staffs of promotion specialists. These managers direct promotion programs that combine advertising with purchase incentives to increase sales. In an effort to establish closer contact with purchasers—dealers, distributors, or consumers—promotion programs may use direct mail, telemarketing, television or radio advertising, catalogs, exhibits, inserts in newspapers, Internet advertisements or Web sites, in-store displays or product endorsements, and special events. Purchasing incentives may include discounts, samples, gifts, rebates, coupons, sweepstakes, and contests.
Marketing managers develop the firm’s marketing strategy in detail. With the help of subordinates, including product development managers and market research managers, they estimate the demand for products and services offered by the firm and its competitors. In addition, they identify potential markets—for example, business firms, wholesalers, retailers, government, or the general public. Marketing managers develop pricing strategy to help firms maximize profits and market share while ensuring that the firm’s customers are satisfied. In collaboration with sales, product development, and other managers, they monitor trends that indicate the need for new products and services, and they oversee product development. Marketing managers work with advertising and promotion managers to promote the firm’s products and services and to attract potential users.
Public relations managers supervise public relations specialists. (See the Handbook statement on public relations specialists.) These managers direct publicity programs to a targeted audience. They often specialize in a specific area, such as crisis management, or in a specific industry, such as health care. They use every available communication medium to maintain the support of the specific group upon whom their organization’s success depends, such as consumers, stockholders, or the general public. For example, public relations managers may clarify or justify the firm’s point of view on health or environmental issues to community or special-interest groups.
Public relations managers also evaluate advertising and promotion programs for compatibility with public relations efforts and serve as the eyes and ears of top management. They observe social, economic, and political trends that might ultimately affect the firm, and they make recommendations to enhance the firm’s image on the basis of those trends.
Public relations managers may confer with labor relations managers to produce internal company communications—such as newsletters about employee-management relations—and with financial managers to produce company reports. They assist company executives in drafting speeches, arranging interviews, and maintaining other forms of public contact; oversee company archives; and respond to requests for information. In addition, some of these managers handle special events, such as the sponsorship of races, parties introducing new products, or other activities that the firm supports in order to gain public attention through the press without advertising directly.
Sales managers direct the firm’s sales program. They assign sales territories, set goals, and establish training programs for the sales representatives. (See the Handbook statement on sales representatives, wholesale and manufacturing.) Sales managers advise the sales representatives on ways to improve their sales performance. In large, multiproduct firms, they oversee regional and local sales managers and their staffs. Sales managers maintain contact with dealers and distributors. They analyze sales statistics gathered by their staffs to determine sales potential and inventory requirements and to monitor customers’ preferences. Such information is vital in the development of products and the maximization of profits.

Your Questions About Business Online Services Group

Richard asks…
I have an interview at a leading 5 star hotel group, how am I going to nail it?
I have an interview ( informational) with a leading 5 star hotel group, that I got through a contact. Although I have no hotel/tourism experience, I have managed a small service industry business, a college degree and years of other customer service oriented experience. How am I going to tell the HR director that I can do the job what ever it may be !!!
I have stayed at the hotels before and understand the “luxury” clientele. how do i relay this to her?

Jere answers:
Katy,
Relax.
Relax.
Okay.
First, you must talk to a friend who is most familiar with the corporate world. The friend will be able to point out to you your skills and abilities. If such a conversation or contact is not possible, then you must pause and focus on all your experiences. These include volunteer work at schools, religious attachments, social interactions in the community, etc.
Second, you have managment experience. Admit it. I don’t care how small or insignificant that experience is, you have it. Now write about the experience you have. Use the force Katy-the internet. Go there and look up terminology associated with management and implement those into your writing. DID YOU HEAR ME? YOU HAVE MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE. Capitalize on it. Yes, there are others who have more than you, but are you going to let that weaken you? I probably have less managment experience than you, but I could get the job before you. How? Because I am not going to underestimate my skills and abilities and my experience and my determination and my value. You don’t have that. You must get. Not by exaggerating, but by pinpointing specific incidents where your management role was used. Write about it in your writing.
What do you mean you understand the luxury clientele? If you understood it, you would know how to relay it. Oh, perhaps you aren’t passionate enough.
Katy, come on. Quit thinking small. What do you have to offer the company? Yes, your managment experience, but are you willing to learn? Are you a hard worker? Are you ready to take the job?
Relax.
Relax.
If you don’t get this job, always remember, you’ve gained by the opportunity. Oh, duh, you got the interview through a contact. Even that is valuable. Come on. Professional up. Put on your business attire. Collect your business portfolio. You are a professional. Act like one. And then you will soon even be thinking like one, positive and strong that is. Don’t be snobbish, though. Be kind. Be proud. Be kind. Don’t you feel better after you’ve served others? I hope so. If you don’t, then why bother applying at the hotel? You must see value in serving others even through work.
If you can get a hold of The Orange County Register, perhaps online, and read today’s paper, you will read about a woman who landed a job that said “Prefer Bachelor Degree.” She doesn’t have a bachelor degree. She got the job. She didn’t have great experience. But she used what she had.
I hope you are a kind and giving person. I hope you care about people. I hope you are not a greedy individual. If you are, then if you don’t land this job, you will be most miserable. If on the other hand you are all those positive things you will walk away from this with a most valuable experience.
Want passion in life and career? Serve others. Be sincere. Be honest.
Good luck. Live long and thrive.

Donald asks…
Where do I look to find investors for newly developed ideas?
I have just recently filed for a DBA, and I have just started writing 2 separate business plans, generally the same idea but different themes. I think this could make a lot of money , and the return would greatly outweight the costs. These websites would generate profit through online advertising and a select few services we would provide to the user, but in order to build these 2 individual websites, I would have to put forth about 100,000 dollars worth (rough estimate), which would include all start up costs and etcs. After I have finished with the business plans, I will be in pursuit of investors? Where should I look for them? How should I contact them? Should I contact any specific ones that are interested in the internet?
Thank You.
I forgot to Mention… I do have somewhat of an online setup of one of these ideas already running… this was going to be the original idea, and solely owned by me and my partner. I thought I was going to be able to handle this on my own, but apparently not. I need more money than I already have.

Jere answers:
You may want to go and pitch your ideas where investors gather. Here are some places where angel investors come and those looking for funding can come and pitch their business plans. Be sure to have a strong business plan and describe what makes your business idea stand apart:
Angel Capital Association http://www.angelcapitalassociation.org
Angel’s Forum http://www.angelsforum.com
Band of Angels http://www.bandangels.com
Common Angels http://www.commonangels.com
Keiretsu Forum http://www.k4forum.com
Launchpad Venture Group http://www.launchpadventuregroup.com
New World Angels http://www.newworldangels.com
New York Angels http://www.newyorkangels.com
Prairie Angels http://www.prairieangels.org (charges $125 to submit idea)
Robin Hood Ventures http://www.robinhoodventures.com(charges $250)

Thomas asks…
What do you guys think of my cover letter?
I’ve been trying to find a career in advertising/marketing for a little while now. I always include a cover letter, to stand out a bit. Usually what I do, is have a “base” cover letter, but I change the contents of the paragraph to suit the position.
For example I applied to a position with this description and requirements:
“Job Description
The Account Coordinator plays a key role in the day-to-day client communication, planning and execution for a portfolio of Accordant Media’s advertising clients. In this capacity the Account Coordinator aids in development of client-facing documents and communications, helps design and implement campaigns, and facilitates communication between client and internal Accordant Media teams. The Account Coordinator will work closely with Accordant’s Analytics, Optimization and Technology teams, as well as the core Client Services group, gaining exposure to every facet of the real-time media practice.
Specific Responsibilities and Activities:
Contribute to day to day client communication and translate client objectives into campaign strategy
Develop client-facing materials highlighting the execution and performance of Accordant programs
Interface with client contacts to provide updates and insights on campaign performance
Work with Optimization and Analytics teams to devise tactical strategies and drive campaign performance
Desired Skills & Experience
BS / BA degree.
1-2 years professional experience. Experience in media, research, advertising or financial services field preferred.
Knowledge of the online media business and underlying technology and research
Strong analytical skills: must be comfortable with MS Excel and Powerpoint, data analysis, and internet technologies
Effective time management skills – ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Must be self-motivated and able to take the initiative to get the job done
Excellent listening, presentation, written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, demanding, and fun entrepreneurial environment
Ability to travel as required”
To which I replied with my resume, and this cover letter (name and phone number omitted)
Hello,
I am responding in regard to the Account Coordinator position posted on LinkedIn.
I feel that I am right for this position because of my experience, my skill list, and my personality. Primarily, I have over 8 years of experience in selling, up-selling, negotiating and managing. This means I’ve developed excellent communication skills and can juggle multiple projects at once. One of the most important things my background in management has taught me, is that results are essential. This has made me a very metric oriented person, and makes me always quantify what I do.
In addition, my resume details that I started as a Marketing Intern at a Hispanic theater company called ————-. I took this internship, because I wanted to differentiate my experience to cater more to an advertising oriented career. My initial responsibilities were to edit and create ads. But I’ve always been the type to go above and beyond my responsibilities and do more. It ended up being a success for me, because they noticed my work ethic and an unpaid internship that was supposed to last three months, transformed into a freelance Communication Design position where I would do so much more.
I feel that a combination of being a manager and a freelance communication designer makes me the ideal candidate for this position. Being manager means I know how to talk to the team and to the client and my experience in design shows that I know how to craft a message that will be receptive to my audience.
I’m excited to talk about the Account Coordinator position and talk about what I can offer you and your organization in person. You may contact me at any time at —–, or email me at ——@gmail.com.
Thank you for your time!
Best Regards,
Jeff——–
What I try to do is kind of craft a story as to who I am and why I would be beneficial to them. I wouldn’t want to make it completely boring which is why i chose this method. Also I know about the point of an “action close” cover letter but i’m not too fond of it. Otherwise, ANY feedback would be much appreciated and thank you for reading this.

Jere answers:
It’s much better than most, for one simple reason: Rather than just talking about how talented you are, you specifically explain why you are the right person for the job.
As a recruiter who recruits on LinkedIn, here’s an important piece of advice. As you may know, when you apply to a job posted on LinkedIn, it simply sends the employer/recruiter a link to your LinkedIn profile (unless you also choose to attach your resume). So make sure you LI profile is great and includes all of your qualifications. You’d be amazed how often people apply for my job on LI and their profiles are pretty much devoid of relevant information.

Donna asks…
How do I start a business in Nebraska.?
I would like to start a business and wld like to know if thr r grants available. I’m a single mom w/very little income, I’m tired of being behind and not being able to pay the bills. Our community is in need of daycare.

Jere answers:
It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK – lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.
Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.
Even if you buy books on “how to get grants” or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same – hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.
Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html…
“The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments.”
Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business — THERE’S NONE.
11.800 DOC Minority Business Enterprise Centers
14.132 HUD Mortgage Insurance_Purchase of Sales-Type Cooperative Housing Units
14.155 HUD Mortgage Insurance for the Purchase or Refinancing of Existing Multifamily Housing Projects
14.197 HUD Multifamily Assisted Housing Reform and Affordability Act
20.907 DOT Minority Institutions
59.007 SBA 7(j) Technical Assistance
59.012 SBA Small Business Loans
59.026 SBA Service Corps of Retired Executives Association
59.041 SBA Certified Development Company Loans (504 Loans)
59.043 SBA Women’s Business Ownership Assistance
59.046 SBA Microloan Program
59.050 SBA Microenterprise Development Grants
81.036 DOE Inventions and Innovations
81.105 DOE National Industrial Competitiveness through Energy, Environment, and Economics
Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. Minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program
Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs
For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center’s Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It’s a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for “students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices.” Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don’t have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.
If you wish to start a daycare business, the first step is to prepare a business plan. Even if you will not be applying for a bank loan, a business plan helps you to think through your business – what it needs, who it will benefit, how much it will cost, and what is its potential. Here are free business plans on childcare business that you may want to look into:
http://www.sba.gov/library/pubs/mp-30.doc
http://www.misbtdc.org/documents/BPWORKBK.pdf
http://www.misbtdc.org/documents/CDCPLAN.pdf
http://sbdcnet.utsa.edu/sbic/bplans.htm
You may want to read the free article “How To Start Your Own Day Care Center” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol40/daycare.htm It covers various aspects of starting and running a daycare center including the demand for daycare centers, how to start this business, shoestring strategies, how to operate a daycare center, tips on caring for the children, income potential, how to manage your daycare, marketing your business and other additional income potential. There are so many things to learn about the business that the first step is to read everything you can find.
For in-depth information, I suggest checking out the following books:
– Start and Run a Profitable Home Day Care
– The Daycare Provider’s Workbook
– Start Your Own At-Home Child Care Business
– So You Want to Open a Profitable Child Care Center :
Everything You Need to Know to Plan, Organize and Implement a Successful Program
It is also important that you learn the tax rules affecting daycare centers, especially if you are going to open one from your home. Here is the IRS page on child care centers: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/industries/content/0,,id=99878,00.html
As for the licenses and requirements in your state, the Administration for Children and Families provide a state by state listing of contacts for licensing and regulations governing child care businesses:

Your Questions About Internet Business Plan

Chris asks…
What needs to be submitted with a business plan for a small business loan?
I’ve finally finished my business plan but need to know if there is anything else I need to submit with my application for a small business loan. This is a startup so I don’t really have any other documentation to submit. Any info is appreciated!

Jere answers:
I completed a 128 page Bus. Plan a few years ago. After taking 6 months to research and 6 months to put together I finally did it. Everyone (banks, sba, ect.) said for a small business startup I really blew them away. Later I found out that I could have gotten away with about half. Here is a basic list of what I included.
1. A written resume, not just a time line. Out lining your accomplishments.
2. A synopsis of your business. Be very creative. Include Designs of the inside and outside of your establishment if it is going to be a retail sales. Basicly how the building will impact purchases
3. Research. In your own words. Keep copies of all articules and include them in a seperate area for reference for the investors. Include Graphs to help them visulize things. This helps during the stage when you meet with the investors
4. Marketing/ Advertising. How do you plan on doing this. Newspaper Ads. Radio Spots, TV Spots, Internet, ect. Show researching proving the best posible approach and how these people are going to be reached. The cost assoc. With this and what percent of your budget you will dedicate. Dont forget for retail you will want to include traffic counts
5. Demographics. This is more for retail. How lives where, How much do they make, ect. Show research that proves the demographics match the demographics that utilize your type of bus.
6. List of all equipment or materials including opeining inventories need with quotes on costs.
7. Operating Capital. How much, how did you come to this number.
8. Pro Forma, Month to Month of all costs and revenues with economic indicators showing what percentage of revenue will be generated in that month compared to the overall year.
9. Money. How much do you need xxx for equipment, xxx for operating cost, xxx initial inventory, xxx buildout of the building or real estate. What you have put into the business so for. And how do you plan to pay it back. 5yr loan at 8% with a balloon payment in 3yrs. Operating Capital Loan will be on line of credit with no payments due for the first year. You get the picture.
10. Employees. How many, who are they, what is there requirements to work for you. Are there key employees that you know are going to work for you, if so include there resume.
11. Business references. People who are known and respected in the community. Also include people who have already agreed to purchase your product or service. Have them write a nice letter outlining the agreement. This will help prove your revenue.
12. A Personal financial statement. You can get one from any bank. Of course try to chose one from one your going to use.
13. A copy of your credit report. They will pull their own but this helps show that you have done everything. And if you seek private money they will appreciate that you did this easy step.
14. News clippings or Periodical articles that prove your case. That the business you are venturing into is good
15. A copy of a list of all research. Web sites, ect.
I would suggest that you place all of your personal financial info into a separate binder. So if you want to show it you can with out devulging everything. Then if there is real interest you hand it over
Bind everthing in a nice hard plastic cover. Office Depot does a nice job for a low cost. Spend the money for color copies on quality paper. Make extra copies. Banks will need two. Private investors will need one and always ask for a second. You will want to keep one. But its always great to have two extra copies. You will need it in a hurry and wish you had it.
Good Luck

How to prepare a business plan for a website business?
Hello,
Can someone please advise how to prepare a business plan to ask the bank for a loan for new website business as quickly as possible. Thanks in advance.

Jere answers:
According to the book “The ABC’s of Writing Winning Business Plans: How to Prepare a Business Plan That Others Will Want to Read — and Invest In” http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0446694150/powerhomebizguid by Garrett Sutton, below are some tips to make a winning business plan that can get funding:
– Money follows management. Investors look first at the people involved in the company. If you are just starting out and don’t have relevant experience, investors expect to see that you have an experienced team of advisors and employees helping you in the business.
– Make sure you “sell” the one reason your business will become profitable.
– State clearly the strategies you will employ to get the word out about your business. Your business plan must show how you will leverage the Internet, public relations, viral marketing, and other strategies to attract customers.
– Present realistic estimates of the time, energy and costs of building a successful business. Do not underestimate or overestimate revenues. While investors know your numbers are simply guesses, they want to see that your numbers are within the “range of reality.” Be careful of your financial statements: this is one area where you can easily lose credibility if presented poorly.
– Benchmark similar companies to show that you’ve done your homework and researched the market.
– Your Executive Summary is your calling card. If it is not a winner, investors may not even read your entire plan. Emphasize your own as well as your team’s track record in the Executive Summary.
– Before sending your business plan to lenders and investors, send it out first to a few in order to get feedback. You’d want to correct your plan if someone tells you that you’re way off mark, rather than have a potential investor tell it to you and lose the chance to get the funding you need.

Your Questions About Email Marketing Companies

Daniel asks…
What is the procedure of Email Marketing in companies like Yahoo, or rediff?
Hey guys I want to know the procedure of Email Marketing on the sites like Yahoo, Rediff, etc… This is basically to give International touch to my business

Jere answers:
If you really want to give international touch, then to show some professionalism, you must use email address at your OWN domain name(containing name of your business )

Maria asks…
How to Start Bulk Email Marketing Without Becoming a Spammer?
Without spamming and fair with Google Penguin I want to start Bulk Email Marketing. I want a real bulk email service provider company.

Jere answers:
It is pretty easy actually. You don’t have to be a spammer to be using bulk email service. There are actually a lot of legit reasons why you might want to bulk email, for example to distribute marketing material for your currently subscribed customers, or customers that subscribed through various other marketing methods. My best choice for you would be Jangomail, they are pretty professional and flexible in terms of what you want to display on a website subscription form.

Donald asks…
Where can I download bulk email softwares?
I want to start an email marketing campaign for my company. But I’ve no software to start my campaign with.

Jere answers:
There’s no need to download software. It’s really easy to start doing email marketing campaigns in the cloud. Sign up with some of these websites that are reputable email marketing sites. They have verified IP addresses, low prices, and tutorials for new people. It’s important to follow the spam laws and these sites help you do that easily.

Lizzie asks…
What I wanna know is…is it possible to build a viable work from home business which pays weekly?
I am receiving tons of emails from at home marketing companies, most of which ask for an upront fee or startup cost. How trustworthy are these opportunities?

Jere answers:
You’re probably getting emails from work at home business opportunities, which is NOT the same as a work at home job.
Without knowing which specific opportunities you’re writing about I cannot (nor anyone else) can say for certain which are real and which are not.
You’re going to need some money at some point to invest into your business.
The easiest way to begin a home business is by doing affiliate marketing or joining a reputable network marketing company. If you have a product or service that you own or do then of course that should be your first choice.
If you decide on working with a network marketing company, make sure you talk to the person with whom you’ll be signing up with BEFORE you pay anything.

Joseph asks…
How does a Marketing company operate/work?
What does a marketing company actually do? What is the purpose of it? I am going for a job interview for admin work in a marketing company and don’t understand what they actually do, i am just wondering what they do in case the employer asks me questions about marketing etc

Jere answers:
Network marketing companies often have distributors recruit people by phone.
Flag this photo
Network marketing, also called multilevel marketing, is the process of recruiting a team of distributors to help you market a company’s products. Network marketing is a completely legitimate business opportunity, according to Entrepreneur magazine. Many large manufacturers operate on principles similar to network marketing, distributing their wares through multiple levels such as wholesalers and retailers before reaching the consumer. There are many types of network marketing companies, some of which are more common than others.
Nutritional Companies
Nutritional companies are the most common type of network marketing company, based on the “Top 25” list of network marketing companies at Nexera, an online reference and training site. Nutritional businesses are so popular because people generally like the products. These items are also highly consumable, and most distributors purchase these products monthly with an automatic shipment plan. People like nutritional products because they lose weight or experience increased energy when using them. Therefore, nutritional products also have wide appeal in the network marketing industry. Nutritional network marketing companies usually create many different brochures, tapes and videos to help their distributors recruit members into their businesses. Most nutritional network marketing companies also use conference call systems and postcard mailing systems to increase the success of their distributors.
Internet Service Companies
Anyone who reads business opportunity magazines knows that various Internet products also sell well through network marketing. People need a domain name or uniform resource locator (URLs), which is the location where customers find business websites on the Internet, for their businesses. Other popular Internet network marketing products include web hosting, web design software, auto responders and email marketing systems. All online companies need web hosts from which to run their sites. Yahoo! Is one example of a web host. Businesses usually pay web hosts a monthly rental fee to keep their websites active. Auto responders are software tools that send out automatic emails to customers or potential customers. Email marketing systems are software packages that allow online marketers to send out thousands of emails simultaneously.
Information Products
There are also companies that sell information products via network marketing. In 2011, more informational product distributors are selling ebooks. The advantage of selling ebooks is that they cost the company little or nothing to create. The information products network marketing company does not have to pay to ship ebooks out to people. Ebooks are usually downloaded onto people’s computers automatically when payment is received. Still, some information products companies will distribute cassette tapes, CDs and video instructions to distributors participating in their business.
Cosmetics and Personal Care Companies
Some of the oldest network marketing companies, including Mary Kay and Avon, got started selling cosmetics, perfumes and personal care products. These items are purchased and consumed fairly regularly, which makes them ideal for network marketing. Many cosmetics and personal care companies use the party plan method for selling their wares. Distributors ask people to throw shows or parties where they show their wares to invited guests. Some distributors prefer to just make commissions from selling products. However, those who become managers usually recruit other distributors and earn commissions off their distributors’ sales as well.

Your Questions About Doing Business Online Government

Steven asks…
If you volunteer doing business tasks for a non profit virtually is that the same as?
if you volunteer doing business tasks for a non profit locally? Or will there be a bias involved in what future employers think?

Jere answers:
What future employers want to see regarding volunteering is that:
— it supported a nonprofit organization, charity, school or other community-serving organization that does not discriminate and that is fully, legally registered with the appropriate government agencies
— it provided you with training and experience that they would like to have in an employee
— it demonstrates the kind of worker you would be (dependable, results-oriented, a leader, someone who knows how to cooperate, etc.)
If your online volunteering activities meet that criteria, then employers will be interested. In fact, they may even be MORE interested, since it shows you know how to use online tools, how to be managed and supported remotely, how to communicate via the written word, etc.

Betty asks…
Do I have to charge sales tax if I design web site banners?
One does not charge tax on services, especially if they’re doing business within their own state, right?

Jere answers:
As far as US is concerned, there is no service charge on services . There is only sales tax on products shipped. So lets say if you design and deliver those banners via email or any other online medium, you should be fine. On the other hand if you put in on a disk and then ship the disk, law considers that as a product and its taxed. However you are eligible to collect tax only if you are licensed to collect the tax on behalf of the government and you should only collect tax from the citizens of those states only where you business is licensed. Hope this helps.

Lisa asks…
Why do I have to register my business?
I’ve searched everywhere online and can’t get a straight answer. Why does a business have to be registered with the government? If I’m not planning on opening any business-related accounts do I still need to register? Is it so that the governement can get more taxes? Is it so that the government can make sure your employees are threated fairly? Or is there any reason registering as a business is actually benefitial for the company? I’m planning on starting a business but am not familiar with all of the legal aspects, it seems very complicated, and I’d rather not register unless it’s absolutely necessary. Can someone help?
Also, located in Ontario, Canada

Jere answers:
You need business licenses, health licenses and your business must be conducted out of a building zoned commercial. You will also have to have workers comp insurance and liability insurance, pay employment taxes to the state/province as well the government. You can not hide from big brother !!!

Laura asks…
is it illegal to buy stuffs online with cheap price and resell it for profit?
Hello every one,
I love to do business, and I always try to find an opportunity to make money from selling. Finally, I got some idea. I bought PIN for prepaid phone online and I resell it for my customers, who live around me. I wonder is that illegal for me to do that? I know buying and selling is not illegal, but the illegal here is something about government. Will they allow you to make profit like that without business license, tax? for example I make a profit of $5/customer . if I have 100 customers, I already have $500. I use my credit card to buy stuffs on ebay, amazon and resell it for cash. please give me some advice

Jere answers:
No, not legal. You are involved in a business of buying
and selling to make a profit. You need a license and
pay tax on any gains. You can do this on the side if no
one reports you. My lawn mower guy does this.

Fellow Christians: has anyone else ever tried to make it in the mainstream music biz?
There’s no real Christian music scene where I live, so I do play with mainstream, “secular” musicians….they are great people, don’t get me wrong, but I feel the lifestyles and attitudes don’t always match what I believe and so I feel a little left out sometimes…any thoughts?

Jere answers:
Play Tim Minchin, you can get all his songs on youtube

Carol asks…
How do u remove fake nails without ruining your real nail?
I just put them on and they every now but I kinda want them off by tomorrow. Please let me know how to remove without messing up my natural nails

Jere answers:
Sorry to say, but after 14 yrs in the salon biz, there is really not a way. If you buff the nails b4 applying the glue+tips, the buffing thins the nail, and the glue bonds to the nail and removes layers. Even if you do not buff, the glue is going to take layers of nail unevenly when the nail is pulled off, even with soaking in acetone. Nails grow in thin layers, and the glue is always a mess to remove.

James asks…
Where can I find out when they hold auditions?
Like for stations like NBC, ABC, etc. Do you need an agent? can they, meaning the auditions, be found online? I’m really interested in acting, and my parents don’t think acting is a real job, and since their my only source of money I can’t afford an agent, and I’m a terrible liar, so even if I did ask for money I’d probably say it’s for elephant disease or something extremely lame like that.

Jere answers:
First agents do not cost anything. You need to do some research and get some acting
training to learn how show biz. Works. For most everything of a commercial nature you
will need to be where the acting interviews are held and have an agent. A parent will have to
do this with you and get an agent for you if your under 18. Of the steps you need to take to
start acting, getting an agent is the last not the first. You need to get acting training to
learn how to work in front of a camera and how to do an interview and what to expect when you get on one. You can’t look for auditions if you don’t have a clue as to what to do when you get on one.
You can start with school plays and drama classes. You can take some outside classes to if
you can. There are things you can do for experience yourself without an agent. They are
local theater, student films and some ind. Films. When you have some acting experience to
where you are comfortable on auditions and have an idea what’s going on then you can look for agents. You need to know how time consuming and expensive this will be to do. And your chances of getting anywhere are slim. So this is not something you want for a hobby or because your
bored. To find auditions for local theater you can look them up in your phone book and call
to see when something is being cast. You can look for open calls in one of the acting trade
papers like VARIETY if your near LA.

Micrsoft bids for Yahoo takeover. What will happen now?
“Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) with an unsolicited takeover offer of US$44.6 billion in its boldest bid yet to challenge Google Inc.’s dominance of the lucrative online search and advertising markets.”
what do you think will happen now? Given the power MS already has over the internet, i think that this is not a good thing.

Jere answers:
Yahoo is a great place for community and sharing and should remain independent of larger corporations. Especially ones that make you buy certain things for others to work on your computer. We’re heading on a path in America where every thing is set to be owned by few dominating companies, destroying diversity and supporting inflation. So to you Yahoo I say, for the people, stick to that dream you had when you first thought of creating this legacy, protect your integrity, and resist the clutches of this one-world control.

Donna asks…
I am doing my expository speech on iPods I need some help please?
here is what I have right now …. CAN SOMEONE please help me and give me some interesting facts and something i could include thanks :
HERE IS WHAT I HAVE
•iPods Notes
•iPod is the brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple Inc. and launched on October 23, 2001.
•Apple has lauched four verisons, shuffle, nano, classic, and touch
•Apple’s iTunes software can be used to transfer music to the iPod
•As of September 2008, more than 173,000,000 iPods had been sold worldwide, making it the best-selling digital audio player in history
•History
•The iPods line came from Apple’s “digital hub” category, when the company began creating software for the growing market of personal digital devices. Digital cameras, video cameras and organizers had been selling on mainstream markets, but the company found existing digital music players big and clunky or small and useless
•The name iPod was brought to the table by Vinnie Chieco, a freelance copywriter, who was called by Apple to figure out how to get the word out about iPods. After Chieco saw a prototype, he thought of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and the phrase “Open the pod bay door, Hal!”, which refers to the white EVA Pods of the Discovery One spaceshipApple researched the trademark and found that it was already in use. Joseph N. Grasso of New Jersey had originally listed an “iPod” trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in July 2000 for Internet information The first iPod kiosks had been demonstrated to the public in New Jersey in March 1998, and commercial use began in January 2000, but had apparently been discontinued by 2001. The trademark was registered by the USPTO in November 2003, and Grasso assigned it to Apple Computer, Inc. in 2005.
•iTunes
•Most everyone who uses or has an ipod uses iTunes for all their music needs. You can download itunes for free off the internet. Once you have it on your desktop you open it and go into iTunes Store and you can buy all your songs there. Each song is $.99 or $1.29 depending on how new the song is. The store became the market leader soon after it was launched. You can also buy movies, tv-shows, music videos, audiobooks,iPod games, podcasts, and buy or get free Apps for a iPod touch.
•Many accessories for the iPod line were made. This market is sometimes described as the iPod ecosystem. Some accessories such as sound recorders, FM radios, wired remote controls, and audio and visual cables for TV. Other accessories offer features like the Nike+iPod pedometer and the iPod Camera Connector.
•Since October 2004, iPod lines has dominated digital music player sales in the United States, with over 90% of the market and over 70% of the market for all types of players
•Some downsides to iPods are battery issues, reliability, and durability. The advertised battery life on most models is different from the real-world. Most iPods were advertised with a 14-hour battery. A MP3.com put out and article saying that it was vitually impossible. In 2003, lawsuits were charged against Apple, complaining that the batteries lasted for shorter lengths of time than said and that the batteries slowy lost power over time and decreasing the battery life even more. The lawsuit was setteled and for people who were involved got $50 store credit, or battery change. iPods have been criticized for their short life-span and fragile hard drives, It concluded that some models were more durable than others.
•iPods have many different size compbaliltiy ranging from 512MB to 160GB, that’s 250 songs to 40,000 songs

Jere answers:
There have been over a billion downloads at the app store in the last nine months alone.

Linda asks…
Is THIS the END for Yahoo! as we know it!?? RIP YAHOO (sniff)?
Microsoft is offerein 44.6 billion DOLLARS (US) and change, PLUS stock to buy out YAHOO!, umm why to get of competion.
Read on.. Microsoft Corp. has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo Inc. with an unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 billion in its boldest bid yet to challenge Google Inc.’s dominance of the lucrative online search and advertising markets. Well, THANK YOU (ahead of time) Mr. Gates for screwing this Search Engine up (It’ll be a peice of crap like MSN.. slow searches, bad results, I always have guessed that Microsoft filtered out any competion because the results from Yahoo and MSN are VERY different) The what about out Yahoo! mail accounts??? They will be slow and awkard and not the most user friendly… just like Hotmail after Microsoft bought them out.*&^%#$^!! So where to next? Nothing that money can not get rid of if they don’t want you around I guess. Goodbye Yahoo! It’s been great sorry your about to be ground up in the Giant Microsoft Planet Killing Machine.

Jere answers:
Yahoo is a failing corporation and the delivery of services has become a joke – how many 360 sites now fail to function properly due to the alleged Universal platform upgrade (now not even talked about) – with customer service non-existent.
Excellent members of management have either left in disgust or have been fired for questioning the direction of the company. Look past the bump in a share of stock this morning; Yahoo stock has been spiraling downward for months, as investors simply do not see a turnaround anytime soon.
Microsoft has placed an all-or-nothing bid on the table. Yahoo accepts it or – within a year – its assets will be available at a “going out of business sale,” and sold for next to nothing.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Taxes Online

Sharon asks…
Preparing and registering my online business for taxing?
hi everyone. i am confused on how where i should start. i am purchasing an online business on amazon.com. the seller ad i had an agreement. do i really have to register the business name and pay taxes??? or can i just report taxes every month with the help of a CPA?? all taxes will be included in every price because there is no way to tax the buyer after the purchase is made. please help. very confused and worried. cant sleep.
** please remember that my business is on amazon.com. i DON`T have my own website OR my own store.**. i know i have to file for federal and state tax. i will be reporting about 15% of the earnings as if i work for an employer.

Jere answers:
For sales tax, yes you must immediately register with your state and get a sales tax id, if you live in a state that has sales tax, and most do. You’ll only charge the sales tax to buyers in your state, not to everyone.
Income taxes and self-employment taxes are separate from sales tax. Not sure what you mean about “as if I work for an employer” – for this business, unless it’s a corporation, you don’t. You’re self employed, so need to pay around 14% self employment tax PLUS income tax to the feds, and whatever state and local income tax you owe – you need to pay all these with quarterly estimates.

Richard asks…
What Fees or taxes do i have to pay to start an online magazine business in Indiana?
How much does it cost????
THANKS!

To start your on line magazine business anywhere in the USA does not require you to pay local fees or taxes. You will have to pay for Domain name, host and server before you can build a web site.

You will find a wealth of information regarding developing an on line business at the resource link below.

Thomas asks…
What are the legalities involving taxes and copyright/trademark/patents for an online business?
I recently decided to start my own online business once I had an idea for a website that could fill a huge untouched niche. I can’t talk much about what it is about yet, because I want to patent/trademark/copyright whatever I need to beforehand. I have two areas I need advise on:
1- My main source of revenue in the beginning would be website subscriptions. I need some advise on how tax works in this situation. I want to set it up as a business, so that I can expand it more later, but physically there wouldn’t be an office anywhere (at least at first), and I’ve heard that it is possible to get a lawyer or someone to help establish an online business in a state other than where I live in order to pay less for taxes. Is this legal, and how does it work? Is it advisable to do it if I really do want to have a physical office somewhere later on?
My other question is about legalities. Does anyone know if it is possible to patent a website configuration, rather than the software that uses it? I will be purchasing the software I need to run the website, but I want to make sure no one else can come in and copy me. Also, how does Trademark work for websites? Would I need to trademark my website name and company name separately, even if they are very similar? Lastly, How does copyright work on things published via website?
Thanks in advance for anyone who might be able to answer questions or direct me to find some answers.

Jere answers:
I can answer this question for you: “Also, how does Trademark work for websites? Would I need to trademark my website name and company name separately, even if they are very similar?”
To protect a business name within your industry, you would apply for a trademark.
Trademarks can be names of products or services, logos, slogans, packaging and even sounds and smells. In essence, a trademark can be almost anything that is used to identify a particular product or service. Registering a trademark grants the owner exclusive rights to the mark within the specified industry.
It’s necessary to have comprehensive research on the mark done prior to filing to ensure that there is no possibility of infringing upon another party.
This entails searches of the pending & registered Federal and State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files. Then, if clear, you can decide if you would like to file for a Federal or a State trademark.
To register a trademark, that’s done either through your Secretary of State for a State trademark or the US Patent & Trademark Office for a Federal trademark.
If you are only conducting business in one state, then a State trademark is most appropriate. If you conduct (OR are planning to conduct) business in at least 2 states OR between the US & any other country, you can file for a Federal trademark.
If the only difference between your web site name & company name is the .COM, then have just one name filed — however you display it. For instance, Amazon.com uses their mark with the .COM so they have Federal trademarks on the entire name. It doesn’t mean another party can file Amazon for retail sales of books as that’s still too similar to Amazon.com
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Michael asks…
How do I go about getting a retail tax license for an online retail business?
My husband is looking to start an online retail business selling ammo and shooting/hunting supplies (but not the firearms themselves). What kind of licenses do we need and how do we go about getting them?
Thanks

Jere answers:
Tax (retail) certificate (its not a license) is from the franchise tax board. Business license is from city government. Permit for ammno–that I do not know, sorry. Shipping ammo–ask at UPS or the post office what that would entail.

Lizzie asks…
Can I use a Fake Name For My Online Business? How do I send my Tax ID?
I use a fake name because I work online but a situation has come up where I need to put in my fist name, last name and tax ID. My name will be shown to the public though. Can I place my fake name and give my real Tax ID or is this fraud?

Jere answers:
I believe you need to apply for a trade name or fictitious name in order to do so. You can never be too safe when it comes to Tax ID numbers!

Your Questions About Email Marketing Services

Lizzie asks…
Email marketing service?
Could anyone recommend a good cost effective email marketing service. One that allows HTML design and manages subscribers, mailing lists etc.

Jere answers:
Go to Sourceforge.net and search for Dada mail. It is open source and therefore no cost. Aweber, etc cost $25 +/- or more per month.
You can also check out http://markvs.webprosperity.com which gives you a mail manager, autoresponder (Get Response) and a marketing web site for $29.95 a month. Plus you can market the product and make commissions on it.

Charles asks…
Can I legally market my services to people who connect with me on LinkedIn?
I mean linkedin has a feature where you can export your contacts and retrieve their email addresses. So my question is if someone connected with me on linkedin am i allowed to take their email address and market my services to them as i would say my website’s subscriber?

Jere answers:
Yes, but do not spam them or send everyone the same email at the same time. That is a great way to lose customers.

Ken asks…
How can I market my services to small computer consulting companies?
Hi All,
I am a network engineer and would like to market my services to small computer consulting companies.
I was thinking of mailing flyers, sending targeted emails, or attending trade shows. Which techniques work best?
Thanks,
Nick
Thanks for the business card idea. Should I go pounding on doors or give them out at trade shows?

Jere answers:
I’m not exactly sure, ha ha, but if you want to market your services, a good idea is to post them on a free classified ads website. Http://www.stumblehere.com is a great site for this. Their direct link to the ‘services’ section is http://stumblehere.com/search/subject-services/search_where-city/.

I’m being advised by my manager to call companies to acquire names and email addresses of management staff for future marketing services. We are being made to call from a blocked number, and act as though we are or were recently customers at these places. Is there anything illegal about this practice?

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Definition

Susan asks…
Will the liberals who accuse me of not knowing what socialism is please furnish a definition of it?
Thanks. I would hate to be misunderstood. My definition of socialism comes from the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Where does yours come from?

Jere answers:
Socialism refers to any one of various economic theories of economic organization advocating state or cooperative ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal opportunities/means for all individuals with a more egalitarian method of compensation based on the full product of the laborer. Modern socialism originated in the late 19th-century intellectual and working class political movement that criticized the effects of industrialization and private ownership on society. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution, and would be a transitional stage between capitalism and communism (a state involving the disappearance of class and therefore the state).
The utopian socialists, including Robert Owen, tried to found socialist factories and other structures within a capitalist society. Henri de Saint Simon, the first individual to coin the term socialism, was the original thinker who advocated technocracy and industrial planning. The first socialists predicted a world improved by harnessing technology and combining it with better social organization, and many contemporary socialists share this belief. Early socialist thinkers tended to favor an authentic meritocracy combined with rational social planning, while many modern socialists have a more egalitarian approach.
Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, creates an unequal society, and does not provide equal opportunities for everyone in society. Therefore socialists advocate the creation of a society in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly based on the amount of work expended in production, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how and to what extent this could be achieved.
Socialism is not a concrete philosophy of fixed doctrine and program; its branches advocate a degree of social interventionism and economic rationalization, sometimes opposing each other. Another dividing feature of the socialist movement is the split between reformists and the revolutionaries on how a socialist economy should be established. Some socialists advocate complete nationalization of the means of production, distribution, and exchange; others advocate state control of capital within the framework of a market economy. Socialists inspired by the Soviet model of economic development have advocated the creation of centrally planned economies directed by a state that owns all the means of production. Others, including Yugoslavian, Hungarian, German and Chinese Communists in the 1970s and 1980s, instituted various forms of market socialism, combining co-operative and state ownership models with the free market exchange and free price system (but not free prices for the means of production).
Social democrats propose selective nationalization of key national industries in mixed economies, with private ownership of property and of profit-making business. Social democrats also promote tax-funded welfare programs and regulation of markets. Many social democrats, particularly in European welfare states, refer to themselves as “socialists”, introducing a degree of ambiguity to the understanding of what the term means.
Libertarian socialism (including social anarchism and libertarian Marxism) rejects state control and ownership of the economy altogether and advocates direct collective ownership of the means of production via co-operative workers’ councils and workplace democracy.

Carol asks…
illustrate a full understanding of service marketing and what it entails?
This is the title of my assignment,I am looking to find out exactly what service marketing is. Is it marketing a service & not a product?

Jere answers:
Services marketing is marketing based on relationship and value. It may be used to market a service or a product.
Marketing a service-base business is different from marketing a product-base business.
There are several major differences, including:
The buyer purchases are intangible
The service may be based on the reputation of a single person
It’s more difficult to compare the quality of similar services
The buyer cannot return the service
Service Marketing mix adds 3 more p’s, i.e. People, physical environment, process[1]service and follow-through are keys to a successful venture. The major difference in the education of services marketing versus regular marketing is that instead of the traditional “4 P’s,” Product, Price, Place, Promotion, there are three additional “P’s” consisting of People, Physical evidence, and Process. Service marketing also includes the servicescape referring to but not limited to the aesthetic appearance of the business from the outside, the inside, and the general appearance of the employees themselves. Service Marketing has been relatively gaining ground in the overall spectrum of educational marketing as developed economies move farther away from industrial importance to service oriented economies.
What is marketing? Marketing is the flow of goods and services from the producer to consumer. It based on relationship and value. In common parlance it is the distribution and sale of goods and services. Marketing can be differentiated as:
Marketing of products
Marketing of services.
Marketing includes the services of all those indulged may it be then the wholesaler retailer, Warehouse keeper, transport etc. In this modern age of competition marketing of a product or service plays a key role. It is estimated that almost 50% of the price paid for a commodity goes to the marketing of the product in US. Marketing is now said to be a term which has no particular definition as the definitions change everyday.
“Managing the evidence” refers to the act of informing customers that the service encounter has been performed successfully. It is best done in subtle ways like providing examples or descriptions of good and poor service that can be used as a basis of comparison. The underlying rationale is that a customer might not appreciate the full worth of the service if they do not have a good benchmark for comparisons.
However, it is worth remembering that many of the concepts, as well as many of the specific techniques, will work equally well whether they are directed at products or services. In particular, developing a marketing strategy is much the same for products and services, in that it involves selecting target markets and formulating a marketing mix. Thus, Theodore Levitt suggested that “instead of talking of ‘goods’ and of ‘services’, it is better to talk of ‘tangibles’ and ‘intangibles'”[2]. Levitt also went on to suggest that marketing a physical product is often more concerned with intangible aspects (frequently the `product service’ elements of the total package) than with its physical properties. Charles Revson made a famous comment regarding the business of Revlon Inc.: `In the factory we make cosmetics. In the store we sell hope.’ Arguably, service industry marketing merely approaches the problems from the opposite end of the same spectrum[3].

What is Marketing
Marketing is a four step process that begins with analyzing and defining a qualified universe of potential users or buyers.
After this first phase in the marketing process, a true marketing effort succeeds in capturing the attention of the intended buyers within the targeted universe.
Third, systematic effort must be put into getting the prospects to accept the concepts or propositions offered via the marketing effort.
Finally, with all three of the previous steps achieved, the marketer must convert the prospective buyer into an actual buyer by getting them to take the desired action (purchase, rent, call, download, subscribe, refer, sell, follow the law, become a member, etc.).”

In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative original thinker unless you can also sell what you create. Management cannot be expected to recognize a good idea unless it is presented to them by a good salesman.
–David M. OgilvyWhat is Marketing?
The common perception of marketing is that it’s purely the promotional efforts that go into selling a product. 40 years ago, the American Marketing Association defined marketing as “the performance of business activities that direct the flow of goods and services from producer to consumer or user.” The current definition, however, encapsulates an organized behavior system which generates an output of value to consumers

What is Integrated Marketing Communication?
Can someone please provide a ”simple” definition for IMC. I have gone through many textbooks and webpages and they are too complex. I still don’t understand the term.

Jere answers:
Integrated marketing communication (IMC) is an approach to brand communications where the different modes work together to create a seamless experience for the customer and are presented with a similar tone and style that reinforces the brand’s core message. Its goal is to make all aspects of marketing communication such as advertising, sales promotion, public relations, direct marketing, personal selling, online communications and social media work together as a unified force, rather than permitting each to work in isolation, which in turn maximizes their cost effectiveness.

Does anyone have any experience with online college courses?
I’m looking to take online college courses for business and I was wondering if anyone has done any online college courses? And if so how much did it cost? Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jere answers:
I went to Florida Metropolitan University Online (FMU). I went part time, got Pell grants and student loans. They swore up and down they were “fully accredited” just like Penn State or other main university. After 2 yrs, and an additional $1500 not covered by grants or loans, I was alerted that FMU was the defendant in a class action lawsuit, based on the LACK of accreditation (they are nationally accredited, not regionally, so the credits are worthless if you plan on transferring).
After I withdrew from that mess, I enrolled with University of Phoenix Online. But if you haven’t already aquired a 2-yr degree, Phoenix puts you into their sub-college type thing. I was basically rerouted into this Axia College I’d never heard of. I got through the intro courses, and decided I’d be better off going to a local community college (accredited properly, less money, and I’d qualify for state grants as well!)
If you choose online college, make sure you check out ALL claims they make. The job of enrollment advisors is to tell you what you want to hear, get you on the books, and then suck you dry in exchange for your worthless ceedits or degree.

Your Questions About Business Online Services

Thomas asks…
How do I get my website on search engines?
I was interested in starting my business online also. I wanted to find out the cost of getting my website to the top of search engines like google, yahoo, etc
where do I go to do that?
How much does it cost?

Jere answers:
The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?…… And
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.
Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain “generic” keywords, then anyone using
such “generic” queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.
You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, “Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or
DSL?” And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.
A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.
Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the “Description” which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one’s goods and services.
And the very last category – “Keywords” are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
“Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Good luck!

What is the best way to refinance a mortage?
I currently have a fixed rate of about 12%, and I was wanting to see what my options were for refinancing. Can I trust such online services as Ditech.com or Loantree.com?

Jere answers:
The last response is correct…you need to have a professional look at your situation.
The main key everyone out there needs to remember is that every person in america have different finances, employment, credit, bills, etc. Each and every person qualify for something different. On top of that every lender has diffeent guidelines in which they lend money..
My advice is that you work with a company that is partners with multiple investors. There are a couple reasons i suggest that:
1. If a loan officer can shop your loan to multiple lenders they are bound to find one or more willing tho lend to you. They then can find the best of the offer, and allow the investors to compete for your business. This means lower rates and costs for you!
2. If you on your own call multiple banks to see what you qualify for, each and every lender will have to pull a seperate credit report. The more times it is pulled the worse your credit gets. Now, when you work with a loan officer that can shop among their investors, they only have to pull one credit report, and use that copy to shop mortgage lenders for you..
So not only do you keep your credit score where it is, you dont have to worry about any of the busy work..you let the loan officer do it for you..
As for the question about Ditech, and lendingtree, these are companies that you will end up paying much higher closing costs, and interest rates as well. The other thing is that they take tremendously longer to close your loan. Being that they are online companies, they do not service your loan. They sell your loan 30 days after they close it for you. I would suggest working with a BANK that partners with multiple lenders to bank all loans IN HOUSE!!
My name is Jason Fry, and I am a loan officer with Providential Bancorp, a nationwide mortgage lender. We are partnered with over 80 different investors that all have different options. I’d be happy to assist you in a refinance, or at least be able to let you know exactly what YOU QUALIFY FOR. You can then make a more informed, and educated decision whether it would be the right move for you.
Feel free to give me a call at 312-264-6448, or
you can email me at Jasonf@providential.com.
Thank You,

Susan asks…
Besides a factoring company, are there any other ways that debt can be bought from a seller?
If a lot of people owe a seller debt from an online service, are there any other places/companies that buy debt from a seller?
Are there any other ways that a seller is guaranteed to receive what they are liable for?

Jere answers:
Collection agency is the only other one that comes to mind.
Btw, you misunderstand factoring. Factor buys receivables subject to conditions from importer or maker of product [“client”] where the buyer is an established retailer or distributor [“customer”]. Retail sales are not intended and usually excluded from the agreement.
The factor advances a fixed percentage of the gross invoices against the future payment by the customers. For a well run manufacturer, this is on the order of 90 to 92 percent.
Factor frequently has the right to approve the credit of buyers and may only advance funds on invoices to approved buyers. The deal will require that all sales be submitted to factor.
Any client caused return invoices [mismanufacture, warranty, shipping error, etc.], or invoices not paid because the goods are returnable if not sold [common in some industries], will have the same percentage withheld from the payment for the next outgoing shipments
after the net due date on invoices has passed [usually by 30 days], the client receives the balance between the advances and the calculated amount due [net sales times agreed percentage — frequently in the 95 percent range if terms are net 90 days].
The seller isn’t ‘guaranteed’ to receive funds from all sales — only from those the factor accepted the credit on, and then only if there are no returns.
In the case of internet sales where credit checking would be impractical [although factors have been computerized for decades]; no factor would likely want the business. That’s where credit card sales become critical.

What is the common problem asked about online business?
Hi everyone! I’m curious about online business world and planning to build my own website in a very informative way. Now, I’m focusing in online business niche and very eager to know the common problem about this. Actually, many problems are reachable out there but I badly need a direct message from you guys right away. Please help. Thank you so much!

Jere answers:
There are a couple of big problems…
1. Identifying the various types of online businesses and selecting one is one of the biggest and toughest problems. There are several options and each one has its owns pros and cons. Unless you experiment first hand, you won’t really know what to choose.
2. Once you choose a type of online business, the next biggest problem is how to get started. You’ll need a website, you’ll need content to put on the website and you’ll need to promote the site. You will need to learn a lot to be able to do this all by yourself.
3. If you get this far, then the next biggest problem is how to grow the business. You will need to analyze a bunch of data (traffic analytics, sales, revenue etc) to figure out what to focus on and what to drop.
I plan to post a lot of information and ready made websites that you can start with on the site listed in the sources. Hope this helps. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Your Questions About Internet Business Ideas

What is the most lucrative Internet business that has a low start-up cost?
My wife and I would like to start some kind of Internet Business, but we have no idea where to start!

Jere answers:
Are you looking for something where you can work from home? If so …almost all home-based business have a “start up fee”. Some require yearly fees and some are just a one time fee and you’re always in the business. The start up fees can be something small ($50-200) and some companies charge a lot up to several thousand dollars but you’re getting your money’s worth because you’re getting products as well.
If you’re really serious about looking for something, check this one out, it’s a presentation that tells about the company, if you like what you see, you fill the form out and someone will get back in touch with you right away. You just never know what might be the one for you, you just have to shop around. But some are scams and you need to be careful. Shop around, do research and check with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Check them out to see if they’re legit or have complaints.
That’s what I did and I’m working from the comfort of my own home. I love it and it’s a great opportunity for additional streams of income. You can check it out, go to

Good luck in finding that perfect opportunity for you!

Richard asks…
does anyone know any good Internet based home businesses that are not scams?
I have purchased money bank, get google ads free, data enrty inc, hitbooster, instant booster and the google profit machine.
all have proved to be fruitless, im sick of spending money on these scammers and just want to run a genuine home based internet business. any GENUINE ideas?

Jere answers:
Great Question.. And as you may have already found out, there is just too many companies out there.
I too was looking for a way to supplement my income so after careful researching I decided to join a company called Global Domains International. Their website is really easy and most of the marketing is done for you. You can sell any domain to anyone that may need it, not only WS but all of the other ones.
The best thing about GDI was that I did not have to do any direct selling and the cost was almost nothing. I currently have some team members that reside in Australia, UK, India, All over the United States, all over South and Central America, so this business is truly global. There is a 7 day free trial period but then after that is just $10.00… 10.. Not even enough to take a friend to the movies. Most sites will require you to have a credit card to join, GDI doesn’t, they have partnered up with Paypal to provide and easier and safer process of their members payments.
At first I was skeptical but now I am just amazed on how easy it is, I am not promising you riches over night, but with some time and dedication anything is possible. Take a few minutes and take a look at our presentation, or anyone that is reading this… Take a few minutes and listen to what we have to offer. You won’t regret it.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Talk to you soon.
Sincerely,
Isra.

Betty asks…
What people I need for a small business?
I am a graduate of IT and I want to start a small internet business. My question is, what people I need to start? What knowledge I need to know first. I can do the technical but I don’t know how to market internet business.
Any idea? Tips where I’m going to start? Forums? Links? Books? Thanks.

Jere answers:
I own 2 companies now. My first one folded. It can be rough but I have learned a little bit about it now. First get incorporated or file the assumed name form at the court so your business name will exist and you can start opening a bank account and getting marketing materials together. One of the best things to do early on is join your local chamber of commerce. It costs about 200 dollars but you get free advertising, free referrals, and they put you into their directory of member companies so that other chamber members can do business with people in the organization. That will help you get a start. Email me if you want. I’ll send you some more details.

Lizzie asks…
How can I find someone to help start an internet business?
I have an idea for a internet business which will require quite a bit of money to start, but I am sure it will make plenty of money. Where should I go to get this started? How can I make sure that even though I am not very well rehearsed in the internet technology, that if I share my idea with someone I will get paid.

Jere answers:
If you have neither the technical skills to implement it nor the money to finance it, you’re going to have a hard time making money from just an idea.

Maria asks…
What is the best lucrative home based biz to do in Singapore?
Please let me know if you can suggest them to me. No MLM please.
Thank you.

Jere answers:
Singapore is rich in SMEs and even Internet-based businesses.
According to a recent Harris poll, 72% of American households are thinking about starting a home-based business. You are not alone. Start today and be there first.
•More and more people are dropping out of the rat race to provide services and/or goods from home. Start part-time and build until you can drop the “day job.”
•For many, working from home is the best choice (ex., the stay-at-home spouse, or those who are retired).
•For others, working from home may be the only option (ex., house-bound due to health or to care for elderly parents).
•And it has even proven to be an excellent (if unexpected) opportunity for hundreds of thousands (ex., the “downsized”).
But…
This area is fraught with “get rich quick” schemes. So evaluate the opportunities carefully. Anything that offers great rewards for no-or-low work is a fraud. Think about it — why would they need you?
Building a real business, no matter what kind of business, requires work. “That’s the bad news.”
The good news is that there has never been a better time to start a business from home. The Internet makes it a low-cost (i.e., low-risk), high-potential route.
Forget the long string of “classic work-at-home” dead-end jobs (ex., envelope-stuffing and telemarketing). Use the Web to build something terrific that excites you, a business to be proud of, that you own, and that earns you substantial income.
Do you have any idea how proud the small business people on our Family Bulletin Board are when they tell friends what they NOW do for a living? Join thousands just like them — take control and start your own home-based business.

What is Square Biz by Teena Marie talking about?
ok, I thought she was talking about love then she starts naming random stuff that she likes?
What does that have to do with Square Biz…

I feel like I”m missing something a little deeper from this song.
