Your Questions About Email Marketing Lists

Lisa asks…
Anyone ever use email marketing?
I have been trying to research ways of increases sales to my site. I see these sites like emailmarketinginnovation.com etc but wonder if I would even see a 10 percent increase. Any experience????

Jere answers:
Email marketing is very hard these days because of spam laws. There are lists that you can buy from companies that have opt-in lists. This means that people have opted in or give permission for you to send them advertisements.
If you’re just starting out, this is where I would begin my email marketing campaigns. There are many other ways of marketing but too much to explain in this post.
Do your research and I’m sure you’ll do just fine.
Good Luck,

Betty asks…
How to do Email Marketing?

Jere answers:
As you know email marketing is very important part for your business to keep in contact with your existing clients.
A lot of people mistaken Email Marketing with Spam. With email marketing you will be sending news, product special etc… To your existing customers or an opt-in email list.
In order to get started you can either find companies online that offer this kind (Constant Contact) of services or contact local web designers. Most of those service will offer pre-designed templates you can chose from and you can simply insert your sales message.
Hope it helps. 🙂

Daniel asks…
Technical requirements for email marketing (30k+ subscribers)?
How do those email marketing companies (eg: icontact.com, constantcontact.com) work from a technical standpoint? Do they need multiple servers to prevent messages from bouncing back from the receiving server? I manage my own email list of customers and have trouble emailing them through my own domain because the receiving server say’s we’ve sent too many emails to their domain.
Thanks for reading

Jere answers:
30.000+emails is a bit much…
… Most “businesses” with email lists that big are spammers. If you’re not – in other words: your business is legitimate – contact the ISP that is blocking you in person, and explain the situation, so you can have your servers white-listed.

Ken asks…
How do I use email list?
I have thousand of fresh email in a notepad file.
I don’t know how to use them.
How can i add them to a list to benefit from it?
Can I add them to my Aweber account?
How can I do that.
I want them( the email) to enter my list .
How to do that?

Jere answers:
U.S. Can-spam laws forbid marketing to email addresses you have no prior relationship with, for that reason and to maintain low complaints and high deliver-ability rates Aweber does not allow you to transfer email lists, their provided sign up form insures that you establish a proper voluntary relationship before mailing to them, Aweber prefers and gives a default double-opt-in where by a candidate has to reply to an initial email confirming they had signed up and not someone else misusing the email address.
There was one site offering up to 1 Billion email addresses for a price, sounds like the sort of thing those Russian spammers would utilize. Claiming them to be opt-in emails, I suspect they were scraped, etc.
Some of the email services, maybe Constant Contact allow you to add emails, perhaps a small number at a time.

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Solutions

James asks…
What difficulties do we face in deriving solutions to climate change?
I am trying to get started writing a paper but I need a little directional inspiration. I believe our main issue is the large disconnection many people feel from nature. And then of course the cost associated with putting policies in place to protect the environment and finding new effective sources of renewable energy.

Jere answers:
The UN and IPCC have the solution for AGW/ACC – we only need to give them absolute totalitarian rule over the US and all other countries, and the problem is solved (in their own words). The IPCC is who are persenting AGW/ACC as being an issue.
If you want to know to know the intent behind AGW/ACC, read the entire answer, and read what they are saying in their own words quoted, so there can be no misunderstandings of their actual intent.
These are a few statements that are legally binding for the countries that surrender their rights to the UN COP. Segments of the expose are shown below, and an expanded expose is at:
http://www.climatechangedispatch.com/images/PDFs/UNFCCC-AWGLCA-objective.pdf
(though not a full list of their demands and aspirations)
(the COP is Conference of Parties, an established organization by the UN for a one world government, and “Convention” is the countries that surrender to the COP through the treaty.)
Page 39, #32
“Funds will be under the control of the COP as the supreme authority of the Convention.”
The COP will have unconditional, unrestricted power over the economy and society. Why is this stated if it is all about science, and nothing to do with a one world government and absolute global rule???
Page 18, #36
“..adoption and carrying out of public policies, as the prevailing instrument, to which the market rules and related dynamics should be subordinate, in order to assure the full, effective and sustained implementation of the Convention.”
Market rules and dynamics subordinate???? This IS what has caused the current global economic meltdown – Market rules and dynamics subordinate.
Page 7, #3
“a major obstacle to efforts to promote [sustainable] economic and social development [and to [reduce] poverty] [eradication] [promote poverty aliviation,] [which are the first and overriding priorities of all developing countries].”
If it about AGW, why is poverty eradication the primary and overriding priority????
Page 18, #38 (a)
” The government will be ruled by the COP”
Does the US want a foreign dictator to have absolute rule over society and the economy???
Page 29, (q)
“Any lack of full scientific certainty should not be used as a reason to postpone or scale down action on adaptation];”
It is suppose to be about irrefutable science. Why would this be stated if there is any lack of certainty? – because it is all about a lack of science certainty for the claim of Global Warming.
Page 78, #4
“economic and social development and poverty eradication are the first and overriding priorities”
Poverty eradication again?? Stated many times. Isn’t this issue about saving the planet??
Page 87, #77
“A separate pool of funding to finance national coordinating bodies through a direct line item in the secretariat’s budget shall be established. Such support shall not be subject to measurement, reporting and verification.”
Poverty eradication is named numerous times. The COP will have absolute and unconditional authority, and billions of US dollars will be extorted to fund their pet projects and no one will know where the billions will go – i.e. Page 87, #77, second sentence – “Such support shall not be subject to measurement, reporting and verification.”
Check out this publication of exposing only a few segments and statements shown in full so there can be no misunderstanding of their intended objectives in the statements and what the sections translate to mean.
The full 181 page document is at:
http://unfccc.int/resource/docs/2009/awglca7/eng/inf02.pdf
http://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/un-fccc-copenhagen-2009.pdf
Is it really about AGW/ACC, or is AGW/ACC an invented issue as a means to an end as they have wanted for the last hundred years????? Giving absolute rule to dictators will be the result of signing the Copenhagen Treaty, or whatever name they give it at the time is the whole reason AGW/ACC exists. Actually, the whole reason AGW/ACC exists at all, is to get countries to sign the Copenhagen Treaty (like what the AGW/ACC promoters want), to give the UN COP absolute control over the US economy and society (in their own words below). They have drafted a 181 page document outlining that they will have absolute authority unquestioned and unaccountable to no one but themselves (in their own words).
Whether you like the answer or not, this is the whole reason AGW/ACC exists.
You should read how they will have ownership and absolute unchallenged control over land and all natural resources (oil, coal, gas, trees, minerals, farm lands, lakes, rivers, streams, and everything else). Yes, the UN would own and control your property and tell you what you can and can not do.

Carol asks…
What types of jobs can I get with a biomedical and/or biochemistry degree?
Im trying to decide if I wanted to get a degree in biochemeistry or in biomedical. I know that i want to do something in the science field but not teaching. I was thinking that maybe I can decide if i can find jobs in both fields. Also which one has a bigger market?

Jere answers:
I would advise biochemistry. There are many ideas that are unsolved including the protein folding problem, the exact mechanism of the cell on a biochemical level and the idea behind gene expression. This will aid in Cellular and Molecular research which can be parlayed into Biomedical Engineering.
All I’m saying is that you can use a degree in Biochemistry as leverage to a breadth of fields compared to direct Biomedical Engineering.
With Biomed, you’re looking at creating new technology which could be the next big thing or something that is subject to constant change. I’m not sure you’ll always have a job if this occurs. On the other hand, we know next to nothing about the structure of proteins, and could always use stock solutions in lab 🙂

Nancy asks…
what roles do marketers play in a business?
o Many people regard marketing simply as advertising. Advertising is a part of marketing, but it is not the whole picture. What arguments can you make against the common assumption that marketers only worry about advertising? What are some of the roles that marketers play within an organization?

Jere answers:
A valuable role that marketers play in working with small companies or start-ups is helping them develop their differentiation. What solution they provide that is unique – not great customer service or best price but a separation from the rest of the industry.
Next – finding out if the market wants, needs and can afford this product or service.
Market is everyone who needs you. Target market is everyone who needs you and can afford you.
They then outline what the client delivers and creates marketing pieces that promise to deliver exactly what will be sold.
Marketers then develop a strong laser-focused strategy that taps in that specific target market. They come up with awareness strategy and the material to expose and sell that lead. They also track what is working and meet with the client to assess and re-direct as needed.
Marketers often work with clients developing a consistent client experience, recognizing that much of marketing is about keeping customers and generating referrals.

Sandra asks…
How likely is it that China and Japan go to war this year?
The whole Senkaku Islands situation is becoming really difficult to predict. When this first happened in September of last year, I thought that this whole dispute would have been over by Christmas and either China or Japan would have backed down, or they would have come to a UN-mediated compromise. Then in early January, it really seemed like war was really only going to be a month away. However, at the end of January, they were both actively seeking peaceful solutions even though none of them would budge. Now, they’re up at it again in the second week of February.
What’s the deal here? What percent chance is there going to be a war by the end of 2013? I’d prefer that there be no war between them over this of all things because those little islands aren’t worth killing or being killed for. Seriously, how much oil and gas could they really have? A China-Japan war is going to be the trigger for a non-nuclear WW3 due to pacts and treaties on top of economic tensions between China and the West.

Jere answers:
When religion ruled the Civilization, it was called, “The Dark Ages.”
When technology ruled the Civilization, it is called “The Aphotic Age.”
Corporations rule civilization…and like religion, they don’t care either about what ethics they use to survive or who they hurt.
Should WW3 happen (doubtful, corporations Worldwide would watch the stocks drop bc of globalizaton that wasn’t in WWI), corporate moguls will just run where it is safe and direct the governments, and therefore the war, from those havens.
And only those corporations that support the supplies or the arms will do their level best to perpetuate a World War…until “the market tires of war.”

Joseph asks…
Is there a way I can see the MLS listings my realtor does?
Is there a way I can see the MLS listings my realtor does? I’ve noticed that my realtors website has a lag, and though I love my realtor I like looking at what comes on to the market when its listed not three days later. A lot of homes are getting snatched up in my area really quickly and we’re missing out. Is there a general list that shows more?

Jere answers:
Most local MLS data bases have a direct link to their websites for public view. But not all.
Quite frankly, your Realtor may be the nicest person in the world and your best friend for that matter, but if he/she is not getting you the latest information quickly then they are not doing their job. The data base that they pull their information from most likely has a feature that enables them to set you up as a contact and it will automatically email the agent and you new homes that fit the criteria that has been established. This way, you immediately know any new homes that hit the market.
If your agent is not getting you information on homes till 3 days later they are not doing their job. Chances are the agent does not even know this feature even exists on their MLS system.
I am a real estate trainer on MLS systems and it is surprisingly how many agents that are good agents do not take full advantage of the system they use. With all that said, yes there probably is a local link directly to the MLS system that will give you 95% of all the listing data (owners names and phones for example will not be published to the public). Just ask you agent for the link or even google your city’s Realtor organizaiton and it will come up.
But the best solution is to have a talk with your Realtor. If they can’t give you quick information then get a different agent.

Your Questions About Business Online Payroll

David asks…
Where can I get an ONLINE quote for business insurance?
This is for school, it doesnt have to be exact, I just can’t find a place online where I can get a decent quote from. We need an estimate for bonding, auto, building, work-comp etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Jere answers:
You probably can’t. The rating models are too complex.
Call your parent’s agent, and ask them to work up numbers for you.
Or post the following answers for each question, and I’ll ballpark it.
What city/state? What type of business?
Bonding: why do you need bonding? What type of bond? Some examples are: fidelity, licensing, performance, payment, erisa. Each of them have their own rating questions. Bonds can range in cost from $250 to 20% of the job cost, so it’s a huge range.
Auto: what type of cars, how old are the cars, how old (on average) are the drivers, and what are the cars used for, where do they go, and how many of each type?
Building – how big is the building (in square feet), what’s it made of, how old is it, how recently updated is the plumbing, heating, electric? Do you own it or rent?
Liability – what type of business? What are the gross sales? What type of product? How much do you pay the employees? How many employees are there?
Workers Comp: What do the employees do, and how much do you pay each category of employee? This is actually the easiest to “guestimate” – as the rating is strictly based on payroll.

Chris asks…
non-profit online business?
i am a teenager. i want to simply open my own non-profit online business. does anyone have any ideas and is there any permits or things like that i need to go through to start my business?

Jere answers:
You have lots of options…
Companies outsource work these days. Offer secretarial services and keep accounting and payroll records for them on your home computer. Write promotional materials for them. Learn how to design websites for your local businesses on your computer.

Linda asks…
Family business–proof of income?
I am helping with my family business currently as a side job. I am moving into a new place and they want proof of income. I do not receive pay stubs and am paid in cash/personal check. What would be the best thing to provide? A copy of the check or bank statement? Or….any suggestions?

Jere answers:
Surely someone in your family owned business can print out a payroll statement going back 3-6 months to suit your immediate purpose. You should be able to get sample of a payroll statement online that can be modified to fit your situation. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Nancy asks…
where can I find a payroll program ,free, for 2 people?

Jere answers:
Bank of America Corp. Has a program that will allow small businesses to manage their payrolls online. The payroll program is free to small business customers who pay their employees by direct deposit with a Bank of America account, The ”Easy Online Payroll” product is part of a series of business applications that the bank has developed in its Business 24/7 portfolio, which is designed to make it easier for the owners of small businesses to operate.
Besides creating paychecks, the program also will set up W-2 tax statements, perform withholding calculations, link to accounting and bookkeeping software, and have the ability to pay and file federal and most state payroll taxes electronically.
Online Banking & Services: Frequently Asked Questions for Online Services from Bank of America
How much does Bank of America Easy Online Payroll cost? Bank of America Easy Online Payroll’s Basic Service allows you to manage payroll for employees paid by direct deposit to a Bank of America account at no cost. For employees that you choose to pay by check or other means, we will charge you only $5 per month for each active employee, and we will limit the aggregate monthly cost to $15. That means, you won’t pay more than $15 per month for our Basic Service, and when your employees are all paid by direct deposit to a Bank of America account, the Basic Service is free. We believe that you will also find the enhanced features of our Plus Service upgrade to be exceptional.
There are other free programs but this seemed a safe way to go.
You can search further on Yahoo with the search phrase, “Free Payroll programs.”

James asks…
Quicken or Quickbooks for online home business?
My husband and I run our own online marketing business at home and are still getting started. All of our transactions are through paypal, but for tax purposes and record keeping, we need a bookkeeping program. Quicken is much cheaper than Quickbooks, but is Quickbooks really that much better?? Thanks in advance for any help with this!!

Jere answers:
Deciding whether to use Quicken or QuickBooks is a matter of your accounting needs and abilities. Some accountants suggest clients use QuickBooks; however, not everyone is comfortable with accounting terminology or procedures. The following paragraphs highlight some of the differences in Quicken Deluxe compared to QuickBooks Pro (these versions offer the most features and flexibility).
First, consider your computer and accounting skills. If you can navigate through basic computer programs, know what a file is, can operate a mouse, know the X in the corner of a window closes it, and know how to write a check, then you can learn to use Quicken. QuickBooks is also user-friendly if you understand accounting terminology. However, with QuickBooks, it is important to get the set-up right from the beginning. Quicken is a little more flexible and can grow as you learn to use it.
Consider your accounting needs. What do you expect from the program? If you need to track simple income and expense records on a cash basis then Quicken is easier to set up, simpler to use, and less expensive. QuickBooks can be used for single-entry cash accounting, but it is intended to function as a double-entry system for business.
Some important Quicken features that are not available in QuickBooks:
1. The ability to record and track investments (including the capability to download investment information from the Internet). QuickBooks allows for no investment record-keeping.
2. The capability to create an amortized loan that records principal and interest components of loan payments. This feature makes tracking loan amounts and splitting payments into the correct categories more precise.
3. The ability to easily generate cash flow reports as well as budgets based on past transactions.
QuickBooks has the following features that Quicken does not:
1. The ability to create invoices and track payments received. (If you only need simple and infrequent invoicing features, then you may want to look at the Quicken Home and Business program.)
2. The ability to create accounts payable and track the payments as they are made. Payroll features are provided as a for-fee service, ranging from downloadable payroll table updates to complete payroll services. Other payroll features include the ability to track time for employees and link the time spent with specific projects.
3. Inventory features. However, this feature is of limited value to most farmers and ranchers as it is designed for a retail business. It can be helpful to producers selling certified seed, for instance.
4. The ability to accept credit card payments (with the use of QuickBooks Account Manager).
What Quicken and QuickBooks both offer:
1. The programs are affordable. Quicken Deluxe is about $60 with a $20 rebate for previous users; QuickBooks Pro can be purchased for about $220.
2. Both have class features which allow you to track income and expense information by enterprise for better financial analysis.
3. Both include a variety of reports for tracking income and expenses and tax information. However, the QuickBooks reports are more business oriented and tend to resemble standard accounting statements.

Your Questions About Business Online Services

Donna asks…
What is the best way to market online accounting services for small and medium businesses?

Jere answers:
Start by marketing your online service to your local area first. Then widen the area you serve slowly. If your service is good, word of mouth will help tremendously and business will pick up.
Referrals are the leading way new businesses increase sales on a B2B level.

Carol asks…
An online business card service sent me business cards that were printed wrong.?
An online business card service sent me business cards that were printed wrong. They continue to claim it’s a mistake on my part, but proofs even show that it’s not. What more can I do from here?

Jere answers:
There’s not much you can do. Even though shopping online can be convenient and sometimes costs less, it is usually best to buy things in your community whenever possible. If you end up with wrong items, damaged items, items that were never received, etc., it can cost you a lot of money.

Richard asks…
How much money do you make with your online business franchise like “Dollar Store Service”?
Having bought a $7,000 franchise in some big name online business. Can the profits per week be substantial- $70 to $100? Or are online franchises a little slow on the revenue generation?

Jere answers:
If you paid $7000 for a “franchise” – you better hope you make more than $70-100 a week – that’s peanuts
never heard of an online franchise – you probably won’t make anything
franschises usually give you exclusive territories – online that is impossible – you are competing for the exact same online shoppers as every other online business in the world – you have no protected territory where people can only buy this company’s products from you – some other franchisee on the other side of the world could be selling to your next door neighbor
seems to me the only ones who will make any money with something like that are the ones selling the franchises ($7000 per sale)

David asks…
Online businesses?
what kind of services can be offered through online businesses?

Jere answers:
From landscape designer to cartoon artist, from an accountant with special knowledge of tax havens to a trainer (of just about anything), you can use the Web to build your client base.
The possibilities are endless. And whether your clients are “local” (ex., a fitness trainer) or “global” (ex., someone who indexes books) in nature, the Service Sellers Masters Course shows you how to use the Net to build a client base in a fast, cost-effective way.
Anyone can sell a service — you may already be doing so. If not, anyone can delve deep inside themselves — what knowledge or skill set do you have that others would pay for?
I hope this helped.
BEST WISHES!

Daniel asks…
any advice on cheap online phone service?
I need a cheap/free phone service, online based, that can offer voicemail to my international customers. I mostly need to look legit, and while I will be listening to potential message I dont foresee a high use of it.
Therefore I dont want to waste money.
I use skype for personal use and dont want to use it for business, checked out voxox, evoice, simplyvoicebox, etc..
I know google voice is coming soon but who knwos when..
Any advice?

Jere answers:
It sounds like you need a VoIP service that provides DID (direct inbound dialling) phone numbers with Voice Mail.
There are some VoIP services that you can subscribe to and get a phone number (DID) with Voice Mail. Then have your incoming calls forwarded to your home or cell, or go directly to Voice mail. Voicemail copies can then be forwarded as an attachment to your email address. CallCentric is one VoIP carrier that provides these features – and you can do it without using any VoIP equipment. They provide this service for as little as $1.95/month for incoming calls + 1.5¢/min usage. Voicemail is free. Forwarding your incoming calls to your home or cell is only 1.98¢/min. It is strictly pay-as-you-go – no contracts, no extra charges, no nonsense service.

Jere answers:
First of all, you dont need to be a genius to make extra money from internet. Neway, im a mechanical engineering student and im doing online part timejob that is free to join.. Mail me ok if u’r interested.. I can lead you! Nothin to lose becoz its totally free.. Its kinda easy job actually..but waterver u do, please do not join watever job that ask you to pay before you start to work! They should be paying you!!
Good luck!

Michael asks…
What is a good business to start or way to volunteer?
I would like to start a home internet business or do volunteer work but am not sure what to do. I would like it to have it be related with supporting our troops and animals. Maybe it could be a foundation for the troops. It also needs to be something that doesn’t have a large start up cost. Please give me all of your ideas! Please no disrespectful comments. Thanks!

Jere answers:
What you need to do is find a passion you have and build on that passion.
You need a low cost and high reward program to build that will benefit the
people who are looking to join up under you.

Laura asks…
What kind of business would YOU set up if you had unlimited internet bandwidth?
Hello! I’m doing a little project that I need to write about and need to get some ideas. If you had access to all the internet bandwidth you could possibly think of and had all the server equipment and firewalls you could possibly need, what kind of Internet business would YOU set up?
BTW, i do not want to see anything related to “porn” because that’s not something that i’m allowed to write about =). Thanks for responding!

Jere answers:
Wow…Thats is a tuff question considering all of the internet businesses already in action. Personally I would probably create a Virtual Reality Business in which people could interact completely in a virtual world with economy, money, government, voting etc….The users could create their own world and invite other to join as career people in their world…even conduct interviews. I’m talking a lot of work here for this to become a reality….and a lot of time someone would have to invest in the program. You could get very creative with this concept. (“”MAC””) Nobody can steal my idea now! :p lol I officially claim it as my own! (MAC) VIRTUAL MAC WORLD!

Chris asks…
What are some small businesses you can start cheaply?
I already have an internet business I AM WORKING ON. I am looking for something that can get me by. I was thinking of cleaning but there seems to be a lot of those in my town. The only thing I can think of that there aren’t too many people doing is computer repair but I don’t know if I would make enough. Any ideas of good ones?

Jere answers:
If you want something that can supplement your income you can try gifting. It doesn’t require selling or anything and can bring in a minimum of an extra 500 – 1000 dollars a month. A lot of new business owners are doing this to help fund their respective businesses

Thomas asks…
How do I start a small business in Edmonton Alberta?
I want to start a small business more of an internet business. I don’t need much money to start just a big clientel. I dont know whether i need a license or schooling? It’s really not a complicated business but just kinda need the quick guide of how to get started. Or if i can just open a website and start advertising and just go?

Jere answers:
Internet businesses don’t rely on regional exposure.
Get yourself a business license. They’re cheap.
Incorporate because it provides you with a level of protection.
Create your website and start advertising.
Do all of the white hat things you should do to get traffic.
I suggest going through the 30 Day Challenge with Ed Dale. It’s free and has a ton of great ideas.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Taxes Online

Robert asks…
What is the maximum profit a business owner can withhold until they are unable to be claimed as a dependent?
I was just given a business (online advertisment) from my grandfather. I am 16 years old, so I was wondering what the maximum profit is that the business can make befor my mom is unable to claim me. I live in Delaware.

Jere answers:
For the federal income tax, your income, per se, is not relevant in determining if you are your mother’s dependent. You would not be her dependent if you provided more than half of your own support. So you could earn any amount if you saved it all for college, rather than spending it on food, clothes, and music.

William asks…
Will my LLC in Nevada effect my tax return as a Michigan resident?
I am a Michigan resident but if I created a LLC in Nevada for my online business (everything is done online, no brick and motor store), does it effect my Michigan tax return? I know the fact that there is no business tax in Nevada, but do I have to pay any personal/business tax in Michigan because of the LLC?
If I still need to pay tax in MI, do I pay it as business tax or personal tax? If my LLC is filed in a state that has business tax, I will need to pay tax for my business in both states?

Jere answers:
For Federal purposes, the LLC is a “disregarded entity” which means the IRS does not formally recognize the type. It defaults to either a Schedule C (single member) or Partnership/1065 (multiple member) unless you elected to be treated as a corporation.
On the state level, some stats do recognize the type for tax purposes and al require at least an annual filing fee. In CA, the filing fee is something like $800.

Sandra asks…
Why is my American Opportunity Tax Credit only $1000 when I do pay taxes?
I am a 21+, full-time student in a degree program and am eligible for the AOTC. I had a traditional job with paychecks that total to about $700 (no taxes paid). On the side I do freelance work, and I reported that under Category C under self-employment/own business. I made ~$2500.
My Federal Refund is $714. This includes the AOTC of $1000 minus my business tax of $286.
I thought if you pay taxes, you get up to $2500 in refunds from the AOTC? Also, had I made $2500 from a traditional job and as a student, I would pay no taxes.
I am using H&R Block’s online forms.
PS My freelance work I do is web development related and I do everything from my computer at home.

Jere answers:
Okay, let’s start over. I think you made serious mistakes on your tax return.
At age 21, you are under 24 and your parents would be expected to claim you. Under IRS rules, you are living temporarily away from their home and unless you can show they are either dead or that you provided more than half of your total support yourself, you are still their dependent and they, not you, would claim the AOC credit.
If your parents aren’t dead, you aren’t married and your support was more than $6058, you CANNOT claim the $1000 refundable part of the AOC because you flunk the tests to claim it. And I’m hardpressed to believe that if your tuition *was* more than $4000 that you lived on less than $2058 for the rest of the year, especially the way housing is figured.

Nancy asks…
How do I file self employment income on my taxes?
I was a babysitter, getting paid cash by my older sister. I file my taxes online with Turbo Tax.
In total she paid me over $7,000. I babysat in my own home. Will I have to pay taxes to the IRS?

Jere answers:
Helen is the ONLY right answer.
Unless you ran a daycare center for a corporation and got paid by them, you won’t be getting a 1099-Misc since that is ONLY used in a trade or business.
If you babysat at your sister’s house, you were employed by her and SHE should be issuing you a W-2. If the total she paid you was less than $1700, she doesn’t have to–you just list the money as wages and enter HSH and the dollar amount next to it. (HSH stands for HouSeHold Help.)
If you babysat in your house, then you use form 1040 with the schedule C-EZ and SE.

Daniel asks…
Do I have to file West Virginia state business taxes?
I started a partnership in March of this year (2009) with no employees. Do I have to file this year and do I have to pay the business franchise tax? Also, I did not make any money so far at my business if this makes any difference.
Yes, people in West Virginia pay taxes. High ones.

Jere answers:
Well I am not an expert so I dont know the exact answer to your question lol but I do know that going to a tsax service is always a good idea because they can answer you with the correct answer and maybe even help you. Online phone books can give you all sorts of tax services even by their specialty such as business : > There are some in Charlestown, WV that can refer you to a place where you live!

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Companies

Linda asks…
Can you tell me the address to an 800 number?
This company is a direct mail marketing company out of Grants Pass, Oregon.

Jere answers:
You have to give us more to go on. What IS the 800 number that you need an address for?
Some company, some 800 number that does direct marketing out of Grants Pass, Oregon really isn’t enough information.
When you get the number, try going to this website to see if you can look it up:
http://www.whitepages.com/9900/reverse_phone
http://www.anywho.com/tf.html

Sandra asks…
How do you construct a marketing plan fora company that sells high end wood sales to hotels/banks.?
I am in charge of putting together a marketing program for a woodworking company that does high end sales. How do you begin to construct one.
I also need to set up a program to have new agents come in and train to sell the product.

Jere answers:
Well, first you need to look around and see what other companies supply with the same product and do a comparison (analyze your strengths and weakneses as well as advantages you have over other products).
Then, describe your product and decide how you want to position it for your target clients (usually this requires research)
you may want to emphasize on quality of your product, uniquness, or that it is of modern style, or classic, etc.
Then identify the channels through which you are going to outreach your clients: direct marketing, or other channels.
Then describe what kind of marketing materials you will prepare (printed material, website, sometimes wood samples help)
and then attach a budget

Chris asks…
How does a company design the proper marketing mix?
Marketing strategy consists of selecting a segment of the market as the company’s target market and designing the proper marketing “mix” that meets the needs of that segment. Discuss how this is achieved.

Jere answers:
The Marketing Mix is known the elements that make up the marketing process. They include:
Price
Product
Place
Promotion
They are also known as the 4 “P’s.” It is important for an organization to have a good understanding of the marketing mix. Each element is important when developing a marketing plan.
Price: What is the highest amount that the customer will pay for the product or service? Many times setting the incorrect price level is the beginning of the end for an organization. An organization must be sure that the price is not too high or too low. Mistakes either way will hurt the organization’s income. When an organization is starting out, it is important that they focus their price levels on breaking-even. A break-even analysis is necessary to determine the price to set to avoid a loss.
Product: What you are trying to sell to the customer. An organization needs to have an in depth understanding about what it is they are marketing. Development of the product’s size, quality, design, brand name, packaging are important when trying to match with customer’s needs and wants. An organization should explain how their product’s features benefit the customer.
Place: Where the customer meets the product. The question is how does the customer get to that place? An organization needs to make sure the product or service they are offering is in the appropriate location where its target markets can reach it. An obvious example of poor placement is developing a ski resort in Houston, TX. It is also important to look at the transportation that could be necessary to reach its customers and the geographical barriers that might exist. A B&B will not get many visitors if they have to travel on a poorly lit, gravel road.
Promotion: The method in which the customer will gain knowledge about the product and be persuaded to purchase it. There are many different types of promotional activities that can be used to help gain knowledge, exposure, and desire to purchase
Personal Propaganda: creating and distributing your own brochures, newsletters, fliers, posters.
Promotional Activities: coupons, give-aways, sponsorships of community events, trade shows.
Professional Organizations: being involved with a professional organization or association in your field.
Media Relations Campaign: a plan to develop contacts and relationships with the local media.
Advertising: Print ads (newspapers, yellow pages), Outdoor ads (Billboards), Broadcast ads (TV and radio), Direct mailings.
When planning these different activities, it is very important to estimate what they will cost and factor that into the organization’s operating budget. When working from a small budget, it is important to take advantage of all opportunities of free publicity. Having a working relationship with the local media will be very useful when trying to generate publicity. Instead of having to spend money on a print ad in the newspaper, you can have an article written about your organization for no charge. It is also important for small budget organizations to create their own personal promotions. An organization can gain exposure by wearing a T-shirt with their logo on it around town.
A recent trend focuses the marketing mix directly on the customer. Instead of the 4 “P’s”, there is the 4 “C’s.”
Customer value: how much the customer values the product.
Cost to the customer: also includes customer’s time and energy, along with price of the product.
Convenience for the buyer: similar to place.
Communication: similar to promotion.
Many organizations that offer services struggle when trying to apply the 4 “P’s” concept to their marketing plan. They are missing one of the “P’s,” product. Services are intangible, produced and consumed at the same time, rely heavily on the organization’s personnel, and the performance of personnel. Marketing services require a complete dedication to understanding the customer. Everyone on staff in the organization must have a complete understanding of the customer, a relationship with the customer. Relationship marketing is an important concept for service-based organizations, and is discussed in more depth in the Marketing Trends section.

Mark asks…
How do you use Twitter to market your company?
Starting to use twitter for my company and want some best practices on what works and what doesnt?
Thanks!
Best group of suggestions gets my points!

Jere answers:
Social media marketing is beginning to grow at an astounding rate but keep in mind that social networks are for socializing and networking! The way I market products and services through twitter is well, not one that is observed by everyone but I believe is the best way period. I use platplatforms like Twitter to educate and connect with my audience about my products and services not sell. I explain why they should do business with me. I then direct all traffic to my blog where I begin the pre sell and information collection process. You are building your own list aren’t you?
I would be happy to work with you if you like, just go to http://www.CashFlowTubes.com to get started!

Your Questions About Business Online Games

Helen asks…
How much information can people normally get on whoever visits their sites?
I know they can sometimes get the IP address but I’m a little confused as to what all that does so can they get things like your name and address if you visit their site? Im not talking about important websites that the government checks but I mean just a normal site like for example a school or business website or one of those websites for online games.

Jere answers:
A lot. See below:

Jenny asks…
If there is an error in an online game that is the developers fault, are they required to fix it?
There is an online video game that I pay money for, however a recent update has caused the game to stop working, as I am a paying customer of their services, are they required to fix the fault, or give information on the fault?
And if so, how can I complain when this is not being provided?

Jere answers:
“required’ to fix it?
No, but that would be bad business.
Do they not have a service contct email or phone number? Contact them. If they don’t or won’t fix it, cancel your subscription.

Carol asks…
Is there an age requirement to start a business in US?
I have been preparing to start up a home based business, which will be running several online games. I was expecting to have to wait until I turned 18 to form the business, but I didnt see anything regarding age requirements on the license application forms – do I need to be 18, or is forming a business something I can do before I am 18?

Jere answers:
According to the US Uniform Commercial Code, you must be 18 before any contracts you enter into can be held valid.
Consider going into business with a relative who is over 18. I have a home based business opportunity, but the person signing up must be 18 or over. I am working it with my son, and he is 15. He finds prospects for me and I pay him for that. Write me if you are interested: jstdadd@yahoo.com

Donna asks…
Will Upgrading to Business Grade Internet help with online games?
Hello, I’m just wondering if my upgrade to fibre optic internet (a.k.a Business Grade) will help me with my laggy performance with online games In particulary Combat Arms and Battlefield Bad Company 2. My Video card is not the problem nor is the RAM. I’m just wodering if my uprgrade will affect it in anyway. Yes, I understand that if the lag is on the game server side, then there is no way to fix it. What do you guys think?

Jere answers:
I assume by saying fibre optic internet, your running your internet over the phone lines or with TV cable?
There are several options available, look and see if you have DSL available locally first.
I always found DSL1 pretty good as long as your only running up to 3 heavy gaming computers on it. It’s only $26/mo from Verizon, assuming it’s available in your area. With 4 computers going on it you start getting, “Hey the game froze!” issues.
I only get DSL1 access in my local area because I’m far rural out in the countryside.
DSL2, only available in major cities, but the connection is better and you can run almost twice as many computers at once.
T1 line $200/mo expensive, $2000 to install but your games will probably never lag and you could host LAN parties at your house as often as you want with 12 or more heavy gaming computers and not have lag issues.

Betty asks…
taobao shopping service fees?
i heard that if you buy from taobao you have to pay shopping service fees. is there a way to avoid this? what if you’re ordering from inside of china? thanks!

Jere answers:
Taobao Marketplace is a Chinese language web site for online shopping, similar to eBay and Amazon, operated in the People’s Republic of China by Alibaba Group.
Founded by Alibaba Group in May 10, 2003, Taobao Marketplace facilitates consumer-to-consumer (C2C) retail by providing a platform for small businesses and individual entrepreneurs to open online retail stores that mainly cater to consumers in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
Sellers are able to post new and used goods for sale on the Taobao Marketplace either through a fixed price or by auction. The overwhelming majority of the products on Taobao Marketplace are brand new merchandise sold at a fixed price; auctions make up a very small percentage of transactions. Buyers can judge the sellers’ credit from their selling prestige, or the history of comment and complaint.

Carol asks…
Free advertising for small business?
I’m a sales manager for a local retail (clothing) store. I need to find ways to get my name out in the community.

Jere answers:
The best free advertising online.
A while back I wrote an article titled, The Top 10 Free Websites to Advertise. This laid out the 10 best websites where it was completely free to advertise on them. They included:
1. Craigslist.com
2. Blogger.com
3. MySpace.com
4. Reference.com
5. EzineArticles.com
6. GoArticles.com
7. Backpage.com
8. Dmoz.org
9. Yahoo Answers and FAQfarm.com
Each of these sites are unique in their own way but effective in providing an outlet to advertise your business free. This is perfect for those who need to advertise on a budget, their products and services. Small business for the most part doesnt lend itself to have big advertising budgets, so finding a place to “get your name out there” without paying for it is important.
To advertise on a budget effectively you must have a web presence, and preferably a website. If you don’t your small business is only treading water before it goes under. A website is the door that can open your small business to a phenomenal growth track because of the power of search engine optimization (SEO). There is a reason why Google® and Yahoo® have been some of the fastest growing companies of all time, its because search engines work. I personally use Google so much a day I lose track of how many times, and this goes for a majority of its users. For more information about SEO and how powerful a high ranking can be in Google read, How Important is a High Google Ranking to Your Small Business
Now that we have the understanding that SEO is the number one way to get free advertising by a very wide margin lets focus on one of the other ways to work at making free advertising more effective for your small business.
Social networking as a whole are becoming as popular as search engines such as Google and Yahoo. In fact Google bought Youtube® and started their own Myspace® type website called Orkut® and Yahoo attempted to buy Facebook®. Social networking is such a bonanza that doesnt even know their own limits of how large they will grow. Where does your small business fit in? Since they are free there is no money investment to make, but you will have to invest your time, especially in the beginning. You will need to take time to learn the site, set up your profile, and make friends. Remember, you are looking for ways to make the time you spend using this website as an advertising tool as fruitful as possible. Of course set up your profile with the focus of your business objectives and reaching your goals, and always abide within the rules set by the websites. Your investment of time is your efforts to build your network, because it will take trial and error to learn what is best for your business in social networking. Taking the time to build your network is the number one emphasis when it comes to social networking for your small business.
There are other emphasis which I will list below in no particular order:
* Try an individual profile as a representative of your business before you try a group profile for your business to give an idea of the time it will require to build a network
* Dont sign up for too many social networks, you risk diluting your message and emphasis.
* Share the networking responsibility with other employees or business owners once you have a business profile
* Dont be distracted easily, remained focus on what your business objective and building your network to reach your goals. If needed, set goals for building your network.
* Dont be afraid to get a little personable, people do enjoy talking to other people when networking, not just a profile on a website.
* Dont be random when searching for friends for your network. Its a waste of time, choose your friends carefully, and then extend invitations to their friends and their friends and so on.
* Alter your preferences on your profile to reduce spam and unsolicited offers. This will save you time as well.
Remember social networks can be people who are very passionate in one way or another about their cause so you need to be the same way concerning your small business on social networks. If you are its a very easy way to advertise and grow your small business on a budget.

Sony Ericsson W810i Review
Phone rating:
Launched in April 2006, The Sony Ericsson W810i is the upgraded version of the highly acclaimed and massively popular Sony Ericsson W800i, the first Walkman™ branded mobile phone.
There are a few physical differences between the W810i and the W800i: the W810i is slightly thinner, has raised keys instead of embedded keys, and has a 5-way navigation button instead of the W800i’s slightly awkward joystick. Apart from this external makeover, the differences between the W810i and the W800i are minor. The W810i has the advantage of EDGE (for faster internet access) an is quadband instead of triband. It also has Fast Port – a system connector that enables faster data transfer from phone to PC and PC to phone, and which also serves as a charging port.
The W810i is designed to be an outstanding music player phone, and it succeeds. The media player supports both MP3 and AAC formats and audio quality is superb. Mega Bass™ enhances bass frequencies for a better overall music experience. There’s loads of memory for storing music, as the W810i comes bundled with a 512 Mbyte Memory Stick PRO Duo™ – enough to store up to 20 full-length audio CD’s. The memory stick is expandable to 1 Gbyte. Software for ripping CD’s is supplied. In addition to the MP3 player there’s an FM radio with RDS. A quality headset is included in the sales package, and the W810i can also be connected to an external speaker system via an optional cable.
On the imaging side, the W810i has the same 2-megapixel camera as the W800i. This features autofocus, for sharper images, a 4x digital zoom, camera light and a video recorder. It’s one of the best camera phones available, and has an outstanding screen to accompany it.
Connectivity is excellent too, with support for all types of external connections: Bluetooth, USB, Infra-red, Fast port plus fast internet connectivity using EDGE.
The W810i is a phone that cannot be faulted. Unless you choose 3G or a smartphone, the W810i offers the best that you can possibly get from a phone in the year 2006. The new Sony Ericsson W880i is also worth considering, as is the slide-design W850i.
Features of the Sony Ericsson W810i include:
* 2 megapixel camera with autofocus, 4x digital zoom & photo light
* Video camera & sound recorder
* Display: 262k colours, 176 x 220 pixels
* Music player
* Mega Bass™
* FM radio RDS
* 40-voice polyphonic ringtones / MP3 & AAC ringtones
* Polyphonic melody composer (MusicDJ™)
* Speakerphone, voice controls, voice mail
* Messaging: SMS (with predictive text), EMS, MMS, Instant messaging, email
* 3D Java games (embedded & downloadable)
* Animated wallpaper
* Picture editor and effects
* Personal organiser functions
* Picture phonebook
* QuickShare™
* Connectivity: Bluetooth, USB, Infra-red, Fast port
* WAP 2.0, GPRS, EDGE
* Memory: 20 Mbytes plus 512 Mbyte Memory Stick PRO Duo™
* Quadband
* Vibration alert
* Size: 100 x 46 x 19.5 mm

Sharon asks…
How to send an email to an android application?
Ok, so there’s this app that I use a lot and love on my android Xperia but there is something I would like to suggest/report about and I would like to send them an email. Is there a place where I can find their email and send one to them. I don’t want to just write a review because I’m pretty sure they won’t read it. So… thx in advance!!!

Jere answers:
If you go back into the Google Play Store (or the Market) go into your “Downloads” and scroll through until you find that app, tap the name of the app and the original download screen should come up. If you scroll down to where the reviews are, there should be a developer information link, and possibly an email for the app developer.
If that doesn’t work, you could Google the name of the app, and the developer may have a website for it.

James asks…

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Company

William asks…
Where is the best place to advertise my home business on the Internet?
I live on a small island and I have recently started a home based business with a company in the US. I have been doing promotions locally but now I need to do some internet marketing. I have a website that I got from the company and would like to get people to see it. I am not familiar with internet advertising but I did try a few free sites and got no hits. I would like to know where is the best place to advertise, whether free or paid, so I can get some hits.

Jere answers:
This day and age, I’d say post something on MYSPACE.

Ken asks…
Why famous internet companies of the world avoid porn content and sexual content?
Why famous internet companies of the world avoid porn content and sexual content?
Whether there are legal restrictions or is there another reason?
for example in Instagram, picasso, flickr or in social pages like facebook and google plus.
I recently read a news that says “Google images search service” wants to limit sexual content in its results.
Porn industry is a money-making industry. Why do they ignore it? Do they realy adhere to ethics?
It is a taboo? Or an illegal act? Or an unusual act?

Jere answers:
If you want all-porn, all the time, there are plenty of sites you can visit on the internet and can drown yourself in it, print out pictures and stories and bathe yourself in, and even make clothing out of the images if you want. Nowadays you can even print out edible 3D images to feed yourself with it. Just because there’s a money-making industry behind nearly everything or everything, this doesn’t mean that these commercial markets and products are appropriate for all ages and all peoples across the world at all times to see them.
You must be young, not a parent or take the amoral approach to parenting. Regardless of how “normal” pornography is, it’s not something that belongs in places that are easily-accessible to children where they can stumble upon it accidentally. Or even adults who don’t care to see it, for that matter. Even if these sites are purposely making pornography more difficult to find on their services, it’s not eliminating sexual content in any capacity.
Laws vary depending on where you live, but I suspect in most places it’s not legal to show pornographic images to children. By sites allowing such situations to take place, they’re not only opening themselves up to problems with the law (decency / obscenity laws, for instance), but lawsuits by disgruntled users.
In regards to Google, their change was to make users looking for sexual content be more specific about what they’re looking for. They haven’t hidden anything or removed anything more than normal, rather if you want porn on Google images, you need to spell out what you want in more detail, rather than using generic terms to find sexualized content.

What is the best company for pay per click advertizing?
I would like to hear from people who have used this method to grow their business, I am looking to start internet marketing and would like to try pay per click but am not sure which company to go through, Yahoo, Google, etc.
I want to come up when people search to bring in more clients.

Jere answers:
Besides Yahoo, Google and MSN you can try Facebook – it allows you to upload images to your ad. So far it costs relatively less expensive than Google and Yahoo and has some good effects

Ruth asks…
How can I check out this Internet company before buying?
I want to buy something from an internet company ….. but I’m bothered because
– They are not a UK limited company, although there is a distribution outlet here.
– They want the money two months in advance, the items have to be imported and won’t arrive till April.
– They do not have any samples, so it’s sight unseen.
How can I check the firm out? I want the goods, but don’t want to lose money by being stupid!

Jere answers:
I would’ve thought they would have records of past sales to the UK with positive feedback they could perhaps share with you. Most companies have things like this if only for marketing purposes. I’m sure even if you started asking the company questions and put forward your concerns they should be okay, at least if they are a company worth dealing with they will be.

Your Questions About Internet Business Solutions

Helen asks…
Is there a website that ranks internet business that anyone can do from home?

Jere answers:
There are many web solutions provider that will market your business and bring you to success. Internet marketing has really been the key for major business investors that elevates the performance of their business activities.

John asks…
what is the best internet business website option?

Jere answers:
I don’t understand your question right. Do you want to know which is the best internet business information site? Or do you want to know which is the best internet business opportunity web site?…
If you asking about the best internet business information web site, here are a few good ones for small business and entrepreneurs:
– http://www.entrepreneur.com everything on how to start, market, and grow your small or midsize business.
– http://www.sba.gov get free tips and advice about how to start, and finance your business.
– http://www.allbusiness.com this is an excellent web site for small business; free advice, articles, tips, technology, marketing, start-up, and more…
– http://www.bplan.com get free business plans samples and more.
– http://www.marketingtips.com/t.cgi/36177 Free marketing newsletter from a online business expert since 1995.
– http://massbiz.blogspot.com Read articles from top experts about management, customer service, strategy planning, Internet marketing, and more.
NOW! If you want to know about the best Internet Business Opportunity web site the answer is anything that’s legal can make you money, all depends on how you manage, market, and develop your business.
For example, affiliates programs is a good way to make money for free. Those who tell you affiliate programs don’t work, it’s because they never learned the true way to market associate programs. Just putting banners and links in your site doesn’t do it… Specialy if you put a banner on a poor quality design web site, with no more than 5 visits per week.
One of the main things about affiliate marketing is choosing the right affiliate program for you or your site (remember, that you don’t really need a web site to market some of the good partner programs out there).
What’s a good or top quality affiliate program?
Good affiliates partners are those that you can treat as your own business. Your visitors are yours for life, not just for 30-60-90 days, are those that provide you with a 1-800 toll free number with a promotion code to gain phone sales, those that give you good marketing materials like: articles – text ads – blog post – print ads – flyers – all size banners – product links – and more, some even let you co-brand their web site with your own logo and domain name (this is a big plus, but necesary), that track your web visitor – sales – down line affiliates, and give you on going training by email – teleconferences – chats – forums – others…
Yes, there are more stuff online that you can do. Just do the right research, and inform yourself. And keep updating your business and marketing knowledge.
Another thing you should check is making money out of advertising using Adsense (Google, Bidvertiser, AdBrite). Just build an info web site or blog targeting a small or local niche like http://twincitiesnews.blogspot.com this local news company sells their own advertising plus use Google and Bidvertiser Adsense to make money. Also your site can be about Vacations to Europe, US sport cars, car accidents, and more, the list is endless. Just find a good niche market and work on it, the key is good marketing and daily updates…
Good luck!

best internet/home based business to get into?
?

Jere answers:
The best internet/home based business to get into is one that is centered around your interests/passions. Even though there is a sense of desperation to supplement income, I would suggest you look deep into your options. Don’t get blinded by the false promises/hopes of the get rich quick schemes. True business takes time to build. A honorable business makes money through providing solutions to peoples needs, wants and/or desires. This is done by offering a product, service or information of value. If you struggle to find what you seek, give your own interests some thought. Which niche would you choose. My wife and I have built our own online business around our interests. We had the assistance from our web host of choice. They have some great business examples and ideas. You may visit them to possibly spark some ideas of your own. Http://find.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html

Betty asks…
Can u tell me real effective ways to earn money online? Please do not give me SCAMS.?
I want someone to share his/her experience in the business online.
I have a lot of free time and want to fill in with some extra work online 🙂 if possible.
10x 😉

Jere answers:
If you want to make money online, you need something of value to sell. For example:
Use your real job skills to get a telecommuting job
Sell stuff on eBay
Start your own online business, and sell ads on your website or charge people money to join
These are the same ways people make money in the “real” world, just doing it over the computer.
Any promise of making money online with no required skills is a scam.

William asks…
How to start an online business?
I want to start an online business making invitations for events. I won’t to be able to have someone send me an event and what they would like on the invitation. Then I would make one and send back to them. If they like it I will make as many as they want for a price. How can I get started. Thanks for your help.

Jere answers:
There are several things needed to be done.
You would need a website and a merchant account to start the process. The website should include an individual domain name and hosting which will cost money. However, it is worth having your own domain name because the search engine spiders will index it. An easy to get merchant account can be located at Paypal.com, Google.com, Amazon.com, and Yahoo.com. An idea is to get involved with Geocities.com’s Website Hosting Starter due to a lot of features needed by a new business.
Search engine submission is an important part of getting known. However, it needs to be done after your web page is completed along with the meta tags.
It is always an idea to have a voluntary newsletter or blog. The blog will keep people coming to your website to find out the latest deals or stories. It could be sharing your wisdom about the products in the store, but the ideas are endless for topics really. If done right, it can enhance credibility which will attract repeat customers.
The Small Business Administration has loads of information about becoming a business owner.
Good luck!

Robert asks…
What do online business owners do on a daily basis to maintain their business?
I’m referring to such tasks as maintaining the business by making sure that all bills and fees are organized and paid, process incoming and outgoing product orders, handling customer service, site maintenance, etc.
What processes or procedures do online business owners utilize throughout a typical business day, from beginning to end?

Jere answers:
Hi Tonic
As a online business owner my self I can tell you what i do, as you need to make sure every task in the business is taken care of, and is getting done on time, the problem is if you need to be busy with that everyday it takes away all your time, and you can be busy just with that all day long.
What we do, is start the process right, meaning we use managing tools that keep track of everything we do or outsource, so we can use our minds for better stuff and not worry for the process and procedures to get done.
Every time a new task comes up I will enter it into the system and the rest is history, it will remind me and keep track of anything and everything I or my team needs to do, I will also see the status of the task if its due, done, or any other stats needed, so you get your daily tasks from the system itself.
Its not hard to set up at all. You can find many free tools for starters, I can share the one I use and are happy with, see the link below.
I hope that answers your question, if you need any other help feel free to ask.

How difficult is it to start a business overseas?
I have a business idea that could be a big market in Europe but I am based in the U.S. I would love to start an online business and ship things out from here. The language is not a problem as the website can be in several languages. How difficult is it do this? Or rather, can someone give me detailed directions or suggestions as to what I should research before I even begin this mammoth task.
Thank you!

Your Questions About Email Marketing Companies

Ken asks…
What are some genuine digital marketing companies?
I’m looking for companies that can digitally market music which is in the genres of R&B, Urban, Pop, HipHop etc.
Mainly looking for companies that can provide social marketing, email blasts etc
I’m familiar with most current companies but if anyone has had first hand experience please let me know.

Jere answers:
I think you are too focused on music marketing. Think of it as any business. Do you have a website for people to visit if they are interested? You can put some of your best music on the website for trail. It is easier to show people a website than have them sit down and listen. I hope this helps.

Daniel asks…
What is the average response rate when sending marketing emails?
Im looking to start marketing a new companies and its services via email they have around 60,000 client emails some existing customers others are not.
What sort of % rate return and response would the average campaign receive?

Jere answers:
There are alot of factors that depends on. First, you need to be more specific, What type of company are you starting, and what will you be promoting?
It’s hard to understand your question, because of the typo’s.
Email Marketing can be tricky. But you mentioned, that some were existing customers. So, I’m assuming this list, is one that has been established by you, or this company.
As, I said, the response rate all depends, On the product or service, the cost of the product or service.
And, than the email, The subject is very important. You want it to grab their attention, so they OPEN the email, which you can use a ‘link tracker” or something, if your promoting thru email, this service may be an option already for your software your using.
And, the email contents has to be just as powerful as the subject.
So, you need to ask your question again, and be more specific, with what type of products your offering, to what list, and how much they cost, and how many people are opt-in subscribers, ect.

George asks…
How do web traffic sites send traffic to your site?
Web traffic sites do some techniques I think they used some email marketing type concept and send traffic to our site.
To learn more the strategies on how to send more traffic to you website, see the related links below.

Jere answers:
I think I know what you are talking about. If you are thinking about these companies that guarantee you a certain number of visitors I would avoid them.
I’m not sure how they do it and I think a lot of it is popups etc… But the visitors you get will not be relevant to your site and would be a complete waste of time and money.
Stick to good quality SEO and paid advertising which is legitimate.

Richard asks…

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Jobs

Daniel asks…
What is the best way to market your website without?
What is the best way to market your website without breaking the bank?
It is an employment or job recruiter site.
It is targeted to a specific type of work in the computer/technology field.

Jere answers:
One would usually advise someone with a small online store to use SEO to gradually bring traffic to their site.
For your business, demographically targeted paid ads might make sense, if you setup a Facebook fanpage (free) you can direct Facebook ads to it for a relatively low cost per click, Facebook ads use the member profile information to allow targeting age, gender, marriage status, location and interests that might mention, you can also target employees of larger companies who have disclosed that information.
Facebook ads are ‘interrupting’ the user, the ad style needs to be a bit more soft sell there, one can expect about one click per 1000 ad impressions.
Google PPC ads are not cheap, but may still prove more cost effective than cheaper media, keyword targeted ads on search results pages can be shown only in specific geographical areas.
Google network ads as well as other ad networks allow you to target specific sites or individual pages where prospects are most likely to be hanging out. You can buy banner ad space on
There are a number of sites that reproduce job ads, I frankly don’t know what channels they go through, they might just be scraping monster.com.
You can place banner ads on specific geekie sites through buysellads.com, a search for “programming” turned up 160 candidates, (CPM is the price for 1000 ad impressions) paying for ad impressions, rather than clicks may be ideal for branding exposure.

David asks…
What is a great home job to have a decent income?
I am in the military and have always loved my job since the day i came in. but i would also like to have a second job just for extra money. Can anyone with experience tell me about a good Home job that i can start on my own and make decent money on the side? also are these internet sale jobs a good idea or risky?

Jere answers:
I understand your delimna and have found several things that are working for me to generate extra cash and have flexibility in my schedule.
First, I must say that direct sales is a great part time option. The delimna is finding a good product you can stand behind and a marketing plan that has the potential to pay you today, not 2 years from now.
Second, I am also involved (about 6 days in) in some online marketing options and finding them to be very lucrative for the time commitment. BEWARE, of the program you choose and your upfront investment.
I hope that helps,
Andy

Lizzie asks…
How is the job of a direct sales executive in LIC?
What are the job responsibilities & growth prospects?
But how do i create a satisfies customer?
*But how do i create a satisfied customer?

Jere answers:
A DSE has to sell LIC policies directly. No lead would be provided to you by the company. You will have to generate your own market and make good relationships with your clients. If you create one satisfied customer, they will give you references.By this your market and your earning opportunities will grow.

Charles asks…
How do you get a jobs creating Disaster Recovery Plans?
I recently completed a job creating a Disaster recovery Plan for a non-profit organization. Now that the position has ended I am looking for another position in which I can help to create a Disaster Recovery Plan. Doe anyone know how to find a position of this nature? I am even willing to create a plan for a buisness whil working in my own home if anyone is looking to have one created for them. Thanks guys!

Jere answers:
After the horrific tradegies of Sept 11 and Katrina, many companies were forced to develop DR/BC plans. I suspect the investment they made is aligned with the potential economic loss (both short and long term) should they be unable to conduct business. Many small to mid-sized non-profits lack the funding to implement such extensive plans and while they provide crucial services, overall economic loss due to inability to operate is in relative terms a lesser consideration. I suspect that most of them not involved in providing direct service in a disaster situation are not well prepared so your suggestion sounds like a marketable service.
I would seek a job in a DR business and once in, try to sell your idea of apporaching the non=profit sector. Trying to sell the idea before hired may risk them stealing the idea. OR
try to freelance with it-get the company you completed the plan for to agree to use their name and referral in your “pitch”. I am no expert on DR or NP’s, but the general marketing of the service would entail muck of the same as for any service. One good referral will help somewhat.
Look at www.ncna.org for info on the sector (national council of non=profit associations).
If you don’t already have it, look into certification-i believe it exists. It will give you added credibility. NPO’s rely on donations and gov’t funding, and tend to reduce risk by seeking formal certification in vendors/providers-can’t afford the “scandal” of mis-spent funds.
Good luck-i think it’s a good idea!

Your Questions About Business Online Degree Programs

Richard asks…
Are online degrees as good as a traditional degree?
I have completed my first 2 years and I was thinking about getting into an online accelerated degree program so I finish my bachelor’s degree in less time. This program is offered from Bellevue University.
I am referring to this program here:
http://www.bellevue.edu/community-college/index.aspx

Jere answers:
Many employers toss job applications listing an online degree directly into the trash. This is why online students are so paranoid about the dreaded word “online” showing up on their transcript or sheepskin.
Your choice of Bellevue illustrates one of the pitfalls of online education. Bellevue has a poor reputation to start with. Bellevue is a low-quality “completion” school that is not ranked by USN&WR. The school’s Business degrees do not have AACSB accreditation (Bellevue carries the much less prestigious IACBE accreditation).
A degree from Bellevue would embarrass you your entire career, like a bad smell.

Sandy asks…
online degree program?
hi actually i have a question about online degree program..
actually my bf is some what busy to go to college so he decided to get study online and get an online degree.. i was wondering if kaplan is good because he will go for Associate in business or acccounting….
i was hoping if someone can help me i mean if online program is a better deal and about jobs..
getting assiciate in Accounting program or business program is it worth it… and how much they make and stuff….
thanks a lot

Jere answers:
From what I have heard, Kaplan has gotten mostly favorable reviews. With technology becoming more integral in daily life the prominence and acceptance of distance learning programs has increased dramatically. The important thing is just like with any college decision you need to look at several schools and carefully weigh your options. I would do some searches online for associate degrees in business or accounting to find other schools. I found this site that has some of the info you mentioned and a couple other colleges for you to consider.

David asks…
Online Business Degrees?
Okay, so my boyfriend is thinking about going to school for business. The problem is, we are getting a place soon and we’re not sure if we can afford it with both of us in school. He came up with a bright idea: Online schooling. This would be perfect for us! I tried looking into it more, but I had trouble finding some good schools that offer online business degrees. The only one I found was from Phoenix and he wasn’t too sure about it. We’re trying to ‘shop around’. Any help?

Jere answers:
Online schools – real ones, not diploma mills – tend to be more expensive than campus based programs, not less. Your least expensive option in terms of any sort of reputable degree is to first go to your local community college, get your associates, and then transfer to one of your state’s public universities to complete your bachelors. You get a lower price on tuition at these schools because you’re from the state.
U of Phoenix is very expensive (nearly as much as Harvard), and some employers really dislike it. It is appropriately accredited, though. It is a real school. It’s just not considered academically very strong, and it’s so famous for being kind of sucky that some employers refuse to hire its graduates.
If you must go to school online, first check to see if any of your state’s community colleges and public universities have online degrees. A lot of them do, and that’s often a relatively inexpensive option. But remember, their online tuition may be more expensive than if you went to the campus based class, so check both before you decide.
In general, you’ll do best re: employment options if you go to a school that is knwon for its campus based programs, and isn’t known either for being online or for-profit. So skip U of Phoenix, Kaplan, Capella, Devry, ITT Tech and things like that. Instead, look at UMass Amherst, U Maryland, Penn State, Northeastern, Bentley, U Florida, Ball State, U Nebraska Kearney, Iowa State, Upper Iowa University, Tiffin University, and the other decent schools that offer online degrees.
In fact, a private school that is reputable that offers online degrees at fairly low cost (compared to most online schools) is Southern New Hampshire University. Nothing wrong with them.

William asks…
Online degree???
i am thinking about getting my BA by doing online classes from University of Phoenix . is there BA certificate as good as a regular university like Michigan State uni verity?? i mean does it make allot of difference???

Jere answers:
University of Phoenix is regionally accredited, but it lacks program accreditation. For example, Mississippi State University is regionally accredited but it’s business programs are accredited by the AACSB. This is an additional accreditation over and above regional. This would be considered best. INTEL recently changed it’s employee reimbursement policy to only pay for business degrees that have AACSB accreditation. This is an indication that a University of Phoenix degree isn’t quite considered as good as a degree from most big state universities.
There are plenty of state schools where you can get a BA degree online. They will be considerably cheaper too. University of Phoenix charges $494 per semester credit hour. The schools listed below charge between $130 and $250 per semester credit hour.
Fort Hays State University – http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/
Peru State University – http://www.peru.edu/offuttafb/degreeprograms/onlinelearning.htm
University of Wyoming – http://outreach.uwyo.edu/ocp/
American Public University – http://www.apu.apus.edu/index.htm
University of Florida – http://www.distancelearning.ufl.edu/degrees.aspx
Mississippi State University – http://www.distance.msstate.edu/
No matter what school you choose, you should always check on accreditation. You can do that at the U.S. Department of Education website at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp
At a minimum, you will want regional accreditation by one of the six regional accreditors. Preferrably, you want the program you are in to be accredited also. AACSB for business, ABET for electronics and technology, APA for psychology, etc.
Good luck

Susan asks…
online degree?
were you able to find a job and your field of study?

Jere answers:
While I didn’t get my degree from online studies, I do know many people who have completed their studies, both undergraduate and graduate studies, through online courses. They all have jobs.
What is important is that the school you choose is a reputable and accredited college or university. Most universities offer online programs and the degrees are no different from the ones received from attending the classes on campus. Again, THEY ARE THE SAME, and they do not mention it on the diploma.
Now if you chose a program from the back of a magazine from something to the effect of “Bubba’s School of Business Management”, then expect to only get laughs when you submit your resume.
Good luck!

Michael asks…
ONline Business Help please!!!!?
Okay I have spent more than $200 on domains/marketing ebooks/traffic/programs
What have i made from my website? $2 form google adsense.
Please help me I have a $20 budget left.
What Can I do with $20 to start a online business.
Any ideas?

Jere answers:
You are lucky. I only made $0.85 over a 6 month period of time. Cancel the rest of your advertisting campaigns you already have going and save that $20 for something else you might need like food, gas, etc.
I wrote a blog on advice for working from home. Link can be found in the second paragraph of my profile. I think you will find it worth the read; however, scroll down through the comments and you will find a link to a free ebook called success in 10 steps. Download that ebook if you would like.
I am involved in a free mentoring group. Yes, we ALL do it for free and it is not an affiliate program where you resell and resell information. We offer various trainings on how to advertise for FREE on the internet. I have seen other people advertising the same information for a fee that we share and give away freely.
It is all generic and a ‘no recruit, no product, company or services allowed to be mentioned’ organization of people helping other people to become successful in marketing THEIR own business.
That’s what I offer to you in your situation. It’s there if you want the help, no big deal if you don’t

Sandy asks…
How do I set up a small online business?

Jere answers:
Create a home office. This is not as difficult as one would think. Every home office’s needs are different, but there are some fundamental staples that all require. You will want to have a clean, noise-free environment that has good lighting and is free from distractions. This will help keep you more focused and productive.
You will need a desk and chair. The size of your desk will depend on what its function is.
You will want a place to store all your information about your customers such as a computer and/or a filing cabinet.
You will also want a phone, fax/scanner/copier, Internet connection, and any other communication tools you might need at hand. Since most home-based businesses focus on services or affiliate products, there will be no need for storage.
If you are planning to sell your own products and ship them yourself, then make sure you have room to store them all. If you plan on doing meetings outside of your home, there will be no need for a conference room either.
If you are going to be seeing clients in your home, and don’t have a conference room, then be sure to keep your place clean and neat at all times. First impressions say a lot.
Create a website.
Keep things simple. You don’t need to have tons of graphics and bright colors plastered all over. The clean, simple design is the best and attracts the most people. Too many things going on throughout a site can be overwhelming to the viewer and drive them away, not get them to stay and come back.
Stay away from playing annoying music of any kind on your site. This a sure fire way to drive away business.
You also want to stay away from things that require time to load. This slows down the viewer’s access to immediate information.
Just because you can put it on a site, it does not mean you have to or should. You want to have value to your site.
Include good content. This will make the viewer linger and become more interested in what you have. There are tons of ways to accomplish this and you will to use and decide what works for you.
Pick a few tools of the trade use them and apply them to your site and monitor the response and traffic. If you notice that some are not producing, remove them and try something else.
You will have to be diligent but remember that simple is better.
You don’t want to implement every tool at once, it can make your viewers feel uncomfortable, so use a few and ditch the rest.
Here are just a few possibilities.
Start an e-mail list. They’re great to allow customers to talk about your products and services. Yahoo! Groups offer this service free. Members can post comments and questions to you or each other and an e-mail is generated to all users. The group can be private, subject to approval, or public.
You will want to see daily traffic and post frequently in the beginning to get things going. Eventually your customers will start talking to each other. These lists are a great tool and keep people active and coming back.
Create some polls for viewers so they can vote on a specific issue related to the site’s content. You want to keep people interactive so they don’t get bored. Writing a poll from scratch can be tricky but they make great templates today that can be of great help. You would fill in the blanks and then copy and paste the code to your site.
Create a weblog or “blog”. This is like an online journal that is frequently updated. You will add some good links into it to advertise your business, of course. It is also a form of communication that allows people to stay updated on what is going on with your business and what they can expect in the future. Today, blogs have taken on a life of their own and are sweeping through cyber land.
Tips:
******
Computers, printers, and software are a lot more inexpensive these days. You can also find great plans for telephone and internet service today that are very reasonable. These services will allow you to make long distance phone calls for free. If you shop around wisely, you can find some really good deals on computers and office supplies and furniture.
Computer: you can expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $1000 for a computer that has all the latest features. You will want to make sure that it has at least a Pentium 4 processor speed and 60 GB hard drive. You will also want a 17″ monitor to make your life easier especially if you need to be on the computer often. Make sire that you have 256 MB of memory at least and a CD-ROM read and write drive. This is pretty standard for most computers today, but you will always want to double check.
Multifunctional Machine: you will want to invest in a fax, printer, copier, and scanning machine. Many places sell them for great prices. You are looking at about $100 an up. Make sure that if you do a lot of printing you check out the price of the ink cartridge refills. If they are very expensive you might want to consider paying a bit more for the machine itself to be able to get the more inexpensive refills.
Office Furniture: This can vary tremendously. If you want nice but affordable try office supply stores. They have the packages that are relatively inexpensive and easy to assemble. Get a good chair though. Never skimp on something you will be sitting for hours.
For better penetration, use ads to targeted groups. Take advantage of free online classified ads as well.
Write articles and submit to major article directories, with a link to your website.
Do a lot of linking, link your pages to the major directories and search engines – this will pay off in the medium and long term.
Use autoresponders to generate your own opt-in lists and email campaign.
Warnings:
************
Spend more time promoting your page than building it up; a good web page is useless if no one knows about it.
Do not send unsolicited sales email to those who do not ask for it, this is considered spam. Avoid sending email to so-called safelists that send to millions of email accounts.
Do not be stingy on advertisement. Use of all forms of ads is recomended, especially during startup of business.
Do not join too many affiliate programs early on, start slow and concentrate on building each program singly.
Do not be easily scammed, research each program and potential returns first before committing.
Do not burst your advertising budget. Continuous flow of advertising is better than a one off full blown ad campaign.
Good Luck 😉

Steven asks…
Is there Online Volunteering?
I am looking to do some volunteer service for a non-profit online. Is there any websites that are available for this?

Jere answers:
Yes, there is online volunteering! There are thousands of organizations that involve online volunteers. These volunteers are:
– translating documents
– researching subjects
– creating web pages
– editing or writing proposals, press releases, newsletter articles, etc.
– developing material for a curriculum
– designing a database
– designing graphics
– providing legal, business, medical, agricultural or any other expertise
– counseling people
– tutoring or mentoring students
– moderating online discussion groups
– creating podcasts
– editing videos
– monitoring the news
– answering questions
– tagging photos and files
– managing blogs, Facebook accounts and other social media sites
– managing other online volunteers
Note that for most of these jobs, you need to already have expertise — you can’t translate text from English into Spanish unless you are fluent in both languages, you can’t design web sites unless you have already done so and have a portfolio to prove your skills, etc.
You can find online volunteering opportunities at VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org (however, note that many opportunities are mislabeled as “virtual” when, in fact, you have to be onsite to do the task) and Idealist, http://www.idealist.org (keyword search: virtual). You can also try the UN’s Online Volunteering servce, http://www.onlinevolunteering.org, though note that most of these opportunities require an area of expertise. You can also try Project Gutenberg, where online volunteers transcribe books with expired copyrights.

Donna asks…
How do you open an online business?
I want to know the right way.

Jere answers:
Here are 5 very useful tips before you start to open and run an online business:-
1. Write down your objectives and goals – Include who are your target group / market. Be passionate of what you do. Improvise along the way.
2. List down your supplies of products or services – eg. Manufacturers, wholesalers, drop shipping (delivery matters, lead time)
3. Create an advertising budget – use High-Traffic-Classifieds.blogspot.com, Professional Webmasters Advice is there. Other methods should include Adwords, Social Networking, Videos, Article, Blogs, Forum, etc.
4. Create a website – Starting out any (online) business can be tough and challenging. Need to be cost effective. Therefore, best to Professional Webmasters Recommendations to purchase domain and web hosting eg. CheapestDomainHosting.Org
5. How do you process your orders? – Arrange payment gateway such as
Authorize.Net
PayPal
FirstData
WellsFargo
CyberSource
TransFirst

PayJunction
AcceptPay
PaySimple
Payleap

Ken asks…
Business Loans?
Can I get a business loans to buy investment properties?

Jere answers:
A true business credit card is a line of credit that is taken in the name of the business, under the business’ credit. Activity, whether good or bad, is reflected on your business’ credit report through D&B and other financial institutions, and the liability for any debts incurred and bills owed is with the business. However, some companies out there offer “business” credit cards which they require a person guarantee for. These institutions will often ask for a personal guarantee, and will almost always ask for a social security number from the person applying for the card. If this is the case, the credit card is not a business credit card, but is simply a personal credit card which is used for the business. The business is not liable for bills and debts – you are. When applying for a credit card for your business, watch out for areas asking for your SSN (and not your TaxID or EIN) and be wary of any credit card that asks for a personal guarantee. By ensuring that your credit card is in the name of your business, you can help to build your business’ credit, while avoiding creating problems with your own.
Many companies offer a list of credit cards that are issued under the business name only. Those lists typically run $300-$900, depending on the quality of the information inquiring. I would suggest starting your search online via google or yahoo. Search for “strong business credit” (just like that in quotes) to find services that sell the information.
Good luck,

Mary asks…
What type of business should I start?
Hello, I have been in business for myself before and I did make good money, but I did not love the type of work and that particular industry. I have been racking my brain and beating my head on a wall trying to figure out what type of business I should start. I need some ideas to get the wheels turning. Any suggestions?

Jere answers:
Are you talking about a traditional business or a home based business? I found that a home based business was economically better and less to start up. The income opportunity in home based businesses, are the same as traditional businesses. Same tax write offs, except in home based, almost everything you use daily becomes a tax write off and you don’t have all the over head expenses to dish out as well. So your profit margin is higher.
Here’s one idea for you:
My husband and I started a business out of our home over six years ago. We got involved in an International telecommunications service provider that was started back in 1993. It’s a 15 year old, world wide company that’s in numerous countries. It’s the largest direct selling telecommunications service provider in the world. With headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Charlotte, Amsterdam, Sydney and Montreal.
They have been featured in several magazines like USA Today, Success, Fortune etc. Inc 500 rated them the 22nd fastest growing company in revenue in it’s first five years. They are registered with the BBB as well.
They market in services people use every day and pay for anyway. Services like Local and Long Distance telephones, Internet, Digital, video phones, Satellite TV, and all the major cellular phone companies like T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Nextell, Altell etc with the latest plans and most popular equipment. You help put them on a new 2 year contract plan or upgrading and extending an existing contracts through all the major cellular phone providers. You also help them save money on all their other telecommunication needs as well as Satellite TV. Every single month these people pay their bills, you make a percentage over and over again each month.
How many people do you know, or know of around the world that uses one or more of these services or products? . A lot of money involved in this industry.
A few more ideas to take a look at, located on my 360 page on home based business opportunities. Your more then welcome to take a look. There are over half a dozen different ones to look at for some ideas.
Hope this gives you some ideas!

Thomas asks…
Internet service for tablet on airplane?
My wife is going on a business trip this month and wants to bring along her Samsung Galaxy tab2 for entertainment on the airplane and as needed for business purposes. Currently the tablet doesn’t have an internet service provider and I haven’t had much luck finding the best setup. I was thinking of activating the hot spot on her Verizon phone but am not sure how well that works on the plane and that also disables her phone, I think. Most likely, this will be the only time she’ll use the tablet outside of the house and we’d prefer not to rely on the hope the airplane, hotel, and other places have free wi-fi. Any suggestions are appreciated. THANKS.

Jere answers:
The only way that your wife will be able to access the Internet on the plane is if wi-fi is offered. Keep in mind that not all airlines offer wi-fi on their planes, and even among those that do offer it, they may not offer it on all of their planes. Also, keep in mind that it is not free — there is going to be a cost of anywhere between about $5 and $15, depending upon the airline and the length of the flight.
If the airplane does not have wi-fi capability, she will not be able to access the Internet through any other means. Federal regulations in the US disallow the usage of any electronic device that sends and receives a signal, unless that device has a specific airplane mode setting. This means that the phone could be used in airplane mode, for example, to play games (since no signal will be sent or received), but using a cell phone as a hot spot is prohibited on the plane.

George asks…
have people had a good experience with Magic Jack? Also what is the best free internet service.?
I need an internet service to download Magic Jack.

Jere answers:
I have Magic Jack too my second year and like it. The call quality is good and the features like getting your voicemails send to your email is great.
Magic Jack offers now free conference calling as well. A feature that comes in handy when you have a business. Overall I would recommend Magic Jack. In terms of the internet service, we have DSL, some prefer cable (like Comcast). I would recommend to shop around, DSL is more stable, with cable you might run into outages and then your phone would not work. I don’t think you would find a free internet service nowadays.

Mark asks…
Is is possible to take tax deductions for my high speed internet if I use it for work?
I have Comcast cable internet, and I had gotten it hooked up towards the end of July for the sake of using it with my job. I work for an IT help desk company that handles over the phone support for various clients. I use my internet with a VOIP client to help the clients. Can I take any tax deductions for my high speed internet as a business expense?

Jere answers:
The IRS treats phone lines and Internet service the same — the first one of each is treated as personal non-deductible use.
For phone service you can only deduct the separately billed business long distance calls on the first line. If you have a 2nd business-rate line used exclusively for business use you can deduct that completely.
For Internet service, if you have a business class service you can deduct the price difference between the business class connection and the normal non-business class service rate for the first line.
There’s no way that the IRS is going to believe that an IT pro does not use the Internet for personal use as well as business use. If you have 2 separately billed connections you can deduct the cost of the line connected to your machine that is used exclusively for business use.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing

Helen asks…
What fear or uncertainty do you have about buying money making ebooks or internet marketing ebooks?
If you’re wanting to make some extra money and have considered using the internet, I’m sure you’ve seen a hundred different products.
Or you already have a product or service and you’re looking for ebooks or products to increase your sales.
What are your top 5 reasons or questions you have before you buy anything internet marketing related.
Please be honest and upfront.
Thanks.

Jere answers:
There are many internet systems that can be purchased . However the important issue is to thoroughly research the products that you are interested in before investing.
Ideally the preferred system should show full details of the products supplied to increase sales and assist you in maximizing your business.
I recently found maverick money maker maximiser a useful area for research and i am sure others will have checked this out.
Best of luck .

Thomas asks…
How do you evaluate the effectivness of internet marketing in meeting customer needs?
I am stuck on a very tough question which even my stupid teacher doesn’t know the answer to! please could some one help me 🙁 The question says to: Evaluate the effectivness of internet marketing in meeting customer needs for a selected business. I was thinking of possibly using Dell as an example? or perhaps Amazon? I am seariously way out of my head!

Jere answers:
Attach a discount code for every marketing campaign. So customers will enter this code while ordering online. Then you can compute the sales figures. Out daily sales how many people got discount and under which code? This way you can measure the extent of effectiveness of every online marketing campaign.

Carol asks…

How do people get rich through internet marketing?
I always hear about how some guy that never went to college became filthy rich through internet marketing.
But I can never find any solid information about what they did.
I know what internet marketing is, but what is the best way to get started?
What exactly did these people do that made them a lot of money?
I already have a BS in Computer Science and am quite familiar with HTML, XML, and CSS.

Jere answers:
I found out that these guys that “get rich” by figuring out how to get traffic to whatever site you have that you are either selling something of your own or and affiliate product. They figure out what simply works. There is NOT one “secret method”, which every guru is trying to sell you for $997..
I came across someone who had success with their online business and retired at 40.. He started sharing what he and every other successful online business person does.. And I can genuinely tell you it helped me to see how I can seriously be successful myself online. There is VALUE in his info not HYPE..

Joseph asks…
I am trying to start an online retail business. What are a few tips on getting started?
Do I have to have a business license? Do I have to have a tax permit? What is a good website to create your own online business?

Jere answers:
The biggest downside is that there is so much competition online. The negatives can be greatly outweighed by the positives but you really have to set yourself apart from the other million businesses online. There are a few ways to do this:
1) An eye-catching web page. This is the most important thing because you want people to be attracted to your business. It should suit whatever product you are selling but also be unique and fun. It should give the appearance of professionalism.
2) Carry products that other stores in the same business don’t. I can’t say how many times I’ve found multiple stores online with identical inventories. There’s no incentive to stick with one store since they’re all virtually interchangeable.
3) Get a toll free number. A catchy 1-800 number is something any business should have. There’s a reason EVERY Fortune 500 company has one. A toll free gives customers easy access to contact you without paying long distance charges. It also adds to the appearance of professionalism. And a customer will remember the number and be more likely to find you later. It’s a fact that a toll free number can increase business by as much as 600%. I recommend going with www.tollfreenumber.org. They cater to small businesses so they’ve got the lowest prices out there.
Hope this helps =)

Wishing you success!

Carol asks…
How would a person go about selling an established successful online business?
I have an online business that is very successful. It is a store, and I buy from the vender and then ship out from my location. We sell about $1.5 million a year. I am getting older, and I was wondering if there is a way to sell it. Does anyone know?

Jere answers:
Hi Gail
Selling a business can be very profitable and it can be done through a business broker, just do a Google search and you can get one, However sometimes the business is more worth to you then it will be worth through the brokers appraisal, there is a lot of aspects to take in count when appraising a business for sell, much more then the yearly revenue, so before you do the sale you need to take in consideration all options possible not only selling.
A good tip you probably know, but need to be remembered all the time, never ask just one broker,
I hope that helps.

James asks…
Has anyone tried the sexual enhancer Vigorelle?
From what I’ve read it seems to be one of the better ones on the market. What do you think?

Jere answers:
Don’t waste your money.
“There are several so called sexual product review sites on the internet that make it appear that they are independent but are actually a front for the company that sells the top listed product. Vigorelle sellers claim that their product is number 1 from a list of 55 products. Now, how would they know this. Did they hire a group of sex experts at an academic center and tested 55 products in thousands of people with a double blind placebo trial? Of course not. Therefore, just the fact that these Vigorelle sellers are making these kinds of claims immediately says a lot about their integrity, or lack thereof.”
“We are not aware of any published studies with Vigorelle to back up the claim that Vigorelle is any better than the hundreds of other sexual enhancement products on the market. Hence, Leading Edge Herbals Inc. Owe the public an apology for making misstatements of fact. The integrity of Leading Edge Herbals, Inc. And the promoters of Vigorelle is seriously damaged. If their marketing is misleading, how can anyone trust the quality of the Vigorelle product?”

Carol asks…
My business is retail via internet in USA. I would like to move back to Italy and I am an Italian citizen.?
My business (inc) is jewelry retail 100% via internet in USA. I would like to move back to Italy since I am Italian citizen. I would like to do production in Italy ans ship from Italy to USA instead from USA to USA.
So I can keep all my hard earned USA customers. Basically nothing will change to my customers, just the origin to the packages.

Jere answers:
There are a few things you will need to consider.
The cost of delivery going up.
A reliable delivery service.
The shipping from out of the country may be a problem for some American customers who prefer supporting the domestic market.
But theres no better place than home 🙂

Mary asks…
Are there any work from home business on the Internet that don’t cost a lot of money?
I am in a business now, but I have to buy leads and product that cost more than I can make a month. Is there any business that a person can work from home that doesn’t take that much cash to get into and you can see a monthly profit?

Jere answers:
What type of work from home business are you in? Why would you have to buy leads? Why not use word of mouth, keep meeting different people and promote your business and products? If you already have a base with your business, why would you want to give it up? Building a business takes time, no matter what the product is. It’s not going to happen over night. Keep working your business. If you beleive in the product or services, then keep at it. But if you want to change businesses or add another business,
Here’s an idea for you.
My husband and I started our home based business over six years ago. We both work out of our home around our children’s school and sports activities.
It’s also becoming a major funding source for non profit organizations.
If you’d like more ideas, I have created a blog on my 360 yahoo page on home based businesses. Most home based businesses cost under $500. Some more, depending on what it is that you want to do.
Hope this gives you a few ideas.

Your Questions About Email Marketing Tips

Mark asks…
How do I get more customers to my website? Budget Marketing Ideas?
I would like to make my website more prominent on website searches, also my business is in the early stages and needs some much needed marketing! I am on a budget so any ideas are gladly received!

Jere answers:
You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com
Here some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:
1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.
2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!
Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html
3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.
If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com’s “Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day.” http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm
4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.
Here is a comprehensive list of where to submit your articles http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AhzreGmnCUicOoyedqypscUjzKIX?qid=1006022407481

Read the article ” How To Sell More on the Web: 30 Tips To Increase Conversion Rates For An Ecommerce Site ” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/092006/ecommerce.htm for tips on how to improve your conversion rates.
7. Post a link to your site for free where it is allowed (always read the Terms of Use). Examples are:

How to get customers attention in a craft market stall??
Fair Veterans: What are some tips to decorate a stall to gain the most customers?
Also what are some basics I would need?? I know a gzebo tent and tables, but what else?
And any advice shared would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Jere answers:
We always make our entire backdrop and table cloth black with little decoration so that our items stand out (this is great especially if you are selling something jewelry related). A spotlight to make your product sparkle or stand out. Also two signs- one with your website or business name and one that says FREE GIFT in bright simple letters.
We give out free tote bags with our logo on it in crystals or for those that purchase over a certain amount and for the non purchasers- a small gift when they fill in a form so that we can add their name, email and address to our newsletter list.
Don’t forget something to secure your money, calculator, a way to provide a receipt, pens, business cards, LOTS of drinking water if you will be outside.

Can you offer advice about marketing my clothing line?
I plan to launch a casual clothing line soon. This is a new area for me and welcome any advice you can offer. I will begin small by offering a tee shirt line aimed at a particular target market and hope to brand my line into a lifestyle eventually, expanding into a social website, offering clothing lines for all age groups and economic levels, but back to the beginning, tee shirts with my logo and company catch phrase. I await your words of wisdom. Thank you in advance for any useful advice.

Any tips for bying a used car?
I am going to go to a dealer tomorrow to look at a Sentra with 12,500 miles and they are asking for $11,995 for it. I don’t want to pay the full price but I’ve never negotiated before. I would want to pay no more than $11,000 out-the-door. Any tips on how I can get this price?

Jere answers:
The First poster shows why he has not been able to keep a Job at any of the 4 dealerships he has worked at….if his advice shows his skills of helping customers…that tells it all.
Your best bet is to figure out what cars are going for like what you are interested in for your area.
The dealership is not going to tell you what they paid for it…and not give you a real number anyway….so go in prepared with information and research to back up whatever number you plan on giving them or paying for the car.
The market for cars like what you are interested in is very GOOD right now…and they are selling quicker than anything anyone who has been in the business for a while has ever seen….so use sites like KBB / Autotrader / Cars.com and research what is a fair price for that vehicle.
To use as a Benchmark….I have an Used 08 Nissan Sentra on my lot right now that has 19k mIles and is selling for 13,990.00 so depending on what year model the one is you are looking at will tell the tale of how much lower you can go if any on the one you are looking to buy.
Ask them to give you as much info and pricing itemized to the penny by phone and email before you step FOOT in the dealership…so that way once you do…all you have to do is sign and drive so to speak.
Good Luck!

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Association

Lisa asks…
running a stall at a farmers market?
do you have to pay to set up a stall at a farmers market? i mean for a space to set up, not to pay for the tables or gazebo’s etc…
i was thinking of setting up a stall to sell the plumbs and products of them in my garden.
thanks for any answers
also, what sort of price would it be?

Jere answers:
*UK information*
You must have produced the foods you are selling.
The market operator decide on what can and can not be sold at their market. Other stallholders do like like direct competition. Many operators have a set distance, only allowing people to attend from a 50 mile radius. Often there is a waiting list.
As soon as you decide to sell food, Environmental Health and Trading Standards officers need to be involved. Environmental Health deals with hygiene Trading Standards deals with weights, measures and labelling. You need to have knowledge of Food safety, health and safety, trades descriptions, weights and measures etc and stay within the law. The Environmental Health Officer may insist that you have a basic food hygiene certificate or an advanced food hygiene certificate if you are selling added value products. Your kitchen at home will be subjected to an Environmental Health Officer’s inspection and approval, before you can produce anything to sell.
Some foods have to be kept at certain temperatures and only for short periods of time. If you haven’t sold them in that time then, you must throw them away. .
All food businesses must have a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) manual.
You will have to make your stall comply with food hygiene regulations and pay for food appropriate clothing for handling foods (overalls, hats, gloves etc). You will also have to spend money on dressing the stall with display shelves, cloths, labels etc.
Depends on the location (ie town centre or auction house) the situation of the pitch (some pitches get much more passing trade than others, the best you won’t get a chance at). The size of the stall. Anything from £25 to £80 a week. Some charge extra for the ‘stall’ and you bring your own awning, others charge extra for electricity, even if you don’t need it, you still have to pay for it! Make sure you check with EACH market operator for every market you attend.
You will not be allowed to trade if you do not have a valid public liability insurance at least £5m for public liability, product liability (also employer’s liability if you employ staff). Many market traders associations include public liability insurance in their benefits, so it is often better to join the market trader’s association than it is to try to buy individual insurance policies and much cheaper too.

Susan asks…
What is the accuracy of name and address on your credit report?
There are several variations of my name on my credit report. I also have multiple addresses that are the same but for example, one shows 100A Main Street, Dallas, TX 55555 and the next shows 100 Main Street Apt A , Dallas, TX 55555. Are these things that should/can be corrected?

Jere answers:
Yes. Why you should clean up your names and addresses: I’ve read enough horror stories of nasty collection agencies that match a common name like Jane Smith to the wrong Jane Smith and start trying to collect from her. The fewer misspellings on your report, the fewer chances.
Go back to anyone with whom you do business who reports to the Credit Reporting Agencies (CRAs), and try to correct your name to your legal name, and correct your address to your US Postal Service standard address. You can get your standard address from www.usps.gov Use “find a zip code”, and it will show your standard address. Note how there’s NO punctuation except for the dash in the middle of the 9 digit zip code. Then ask, in writing, that these businesses report the change to the CRAs.
After that, you’ll have to dispute the info with the CRAs.
You probably need to slow down the junk mail because companies are selling and reselling your names and addresses.
First contact the Direct Marketing Association and go to the Mail Preference Service. Costs $1.00 http://www.the-dma.org/
Second, every time you get a catalog you don’t need, call the toll free sales number and ask to be removed.
Third, read your Privacy Notices and take action to keep your name from being circulated.
Please vote: Did this help?

William asks…
Who knows about this particular type of what I think is a marketing scam?
I am constantly getting bills for magazines that I did not order. this happens to me at least every other month, sometimes more. I am guessing this is their way of trying to boost subscription sales? Should I even bother calling to cancel this supposed account they have set up in my name or should i just disregard anything they send me and ignore their attempts?Just wondering if anyone knows or has had similar experiences?

Jere answers:
Usually what they are actually sending you is a solicitation that appears like a bill.
They have received your name and address from another source and they are hoping you will subscribe to their publication at the special price they have noted in the offer. Making it look like a bill does cause some people to pay without actually reading the information.
To stop getting these type of mailers, you need to opt out. The Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) Mail Preference Service lets you opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial mail from many national companies for five years. When you register with this service (for a $1 fee), your name will be put on a “delete” file and made available to direct-mail marketers. However, your registration will not stop mailings from organizations that do not use the DMA’s Mail Preference Service. To register with DMA’s Mail Preference Service, go to www.dmachoice.org.
The FTC publishes a free brochure, Unsolicited Mail, Telemarketing and Email: Where to Go to “Just Say No,” that provides information on how you can cut down on the number of unsolicited mailings, calls and emails you receive by learning where to go to “just say no.”
Be watchful of any new accounts you open (including banks and grocery store shopping discount cards), contests you enter and certain product websites you visit. Many times they have a box that is already checked or a paragraph of fine print that says they will share your information with their affiliates and partners unless you tell them in writing to stop.
Good luck

Laura asks…
What course of study should I pursue?
Since I began my own pet care business at a young age, with exceptional success and have enjoyed it so thoroughly, I intend to continue it later in life. However, in order to achieve my long term goal of expanding my business and opening a fully functioning pet care facility, I need to make the money to do so. So, in the mean time, I wish to take courses and earn a degree online so I can get a steady full time job and have a reliable foundation for my future. Animals are my greatest passion so whatever I pursue, must involve direct contact with them. I also want to excel in a field that will relate to my future goals of full time, independent, professional pet care.
I need advice regarding what degree I should pursue- should I first become a certified veterinary assistant or go for the associates degree as a veterinary technician? Any other suggestions that will help me in obtaining a steady full time job with animals?
I didn’t have enough space for this:
I am physically unable to drive and have limited transportation so this is why I am specifying that the study takes place online. Additionally, any recommendations should involve jobs that do not require more driving than someone could provide to drop me off and pick me up. I cannot drive myself to various locations.
What alternative careers should I consider that involve direct interaction with animals? I am very interested in unconventional jobs- I don’t want to be limited to just vet, vet tech, etc.

Jere answers:
I’ve looked very carefully at your question: “Since I began my own pet care business at a young age, with exceptional success and have enjoyed it so thoroughly, I intend to continue it later in life. However, in order to achieve my long term goal of expanding my business and opening a fully functioning pet care facility, I need to make the money to do so. So, in the mean time, I wish to take courses and earn a degree online so I can get a steady full time job and have a reliable foundation for my future.”
If I’m understanding the question correctly, it doesn’t seem that you really want to (or need to) pursue an advanced degree. It seems that you want to earn more money and expand your business. If that’s the case, an advanced degree will not necessarily help you accomplish this. Furthermore, you could find yourself very frustrated after spending many years and much money in getting a degree, working a full-time job, and not enjoying it as much as having your own pet care business.
If you really have enjoyed your pet care business, I would suggest that you learn how to expand your business by studying principles of business and marketing. If you go to college to study marketing, you will get a lot of theory, but you won’t necessarily learn how to get new and keep old customers and how to expand a small business. There are exceptions, but your typical college or university business school does NOT teach the small business owner (in a practical way) how to grow a business.
Instead, I’d recommend networking with other small business owners who have done what you want to do. They don’t have to be in the same business as you. Simply duplicate the fundamentals of what they’ve done as it relates to business and marketing. Go to networking events, trade shows; join an association. Also, ask business owners what business/marketing books they read/recommend. Good luck…

Jenny asks…
What is the percentage of sales conducted over the internet compared to total retail sales?
And the website I can find it at please?

Jere answers:
Internet-based consumer purchases will reach $37.1 billion this year, up 32.5% from $28 billion last year, the Direct Marketing Association projects. The DMA released its numbers today at the 18th Annual Catalog Conference taking place in Boston. Catalog sales will reach $120 billion, up 8.9% from $110.2 billion last year. The DMA projects overall retail sales to grow to $3.3 trillion in 2001, up 3.1% from $3.2 trillion in 2000. Internet sales in 2002 will reach $61.3 billion, then triple to 2006, when they will hit $181.4 billion. Internet sales will eclipse catalogs in that, when the DMA is expecting sales of $160.2 billion.

Your Questions About Business Online Backup

Daniel asks…
Does Anyone Know Of A Good Credit Card Processor For An Existing Business?
We have been ripped off repeatedly by these crroked companies and have put together a list of necessities:
1.) Competitive rates (Obviously)
2.) Lists all card categories on statement (regular cards, debit, rewards, key-entered, corporate, etc.) instead of “discount”, “mid-qualified” & “non-qualified”
3.) Has a defined service and support program for any issues
4.) Online statement AND transaction access
5.) No term agreement
6.) Supplies equipment that can be used with other processors (our current terminal can only be used with our horrid processor)
Also, what is a competitive rate for a MC, Visa, debit, pin debit, Visa Reward, MC World and any other cards you can think of for face-to-face and telephone order?
Here is my issue with credit card processors:
Email 1 from Mae who responded below:
“JB,
First, I would like for you to visit our corporate website to see if you would be interested in our service. We can solve your payment processing and generate more money for you company. We offer your concerns and are here to service you with open arms. Please go to: www.virtualmoneyinc.com

And more blah, blah, blah.
Again, does anyone know of a merchant processor that isn’t a crook?

Jere answers:
A little tough on Mae there, “backup”!
I believe you will find quite a few of the things you are looking for if you check the source location listed below. I would be very interested to learn how you compiled your criteria list – it looks like a direct match.
As for your competitive rate question, this would depend on your volume. MasterCard and Visa charge ALL merchant processors the exact same interchange rates. What these merchant processors charge you usually depends on what your expected volume is. The higher your volume, the lower rate they can charge and still have an acceptable margin. Check out greensheet.com, the merchant processing industry news source, for more info about this.

How do you have two or more servers run off the same character database?
This in reference to an online video game, where you can play your character on any server and it will save.

Jere answers:
Points to consider when Sizing This sizing questionnaire is designed to collect enough information to allow us to configure and characterize an appropriate SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) landscape.
1. Customer Information-This includes customer contact information, in case the sizing engineer needs further input to process the sizing. Here we also ask about the number, version and software of OLTP source systems as well as certain operational issues important to the overall system design.
2. Landscape Configuration and DW Design Planning-This section covers all information around the planned system and DW landscape as well as the Data Model design.
3. User Activity and Workload-There are three basic components to size for a SAP BW system: number of users/processes, query mix and quantity of data stored in the DW. This section will gather the information necessary to perform this process.
4. Data Quantity-In this section we ask for the amount of data you have planned to store in your DW and the data model you have planned to use.
5. Technical Requirements-Here we gather information regarding certain technical requirements, such as clustering or backup technology, that may influence the sizing of the system.

Chris asks…
Business online backup storage?
We have a small business with 1 server/desktop computer that needs backing up regularly. Our hard drive that we used to use is useless and I need to know the best/cheapest/most reliable company for online data backup (in case we lose all of our data in the office).

Jere answers:
Not sure on what you could use online, but if your a business you should use a NAS (Network Attached Storage) which will be the most secure and safest.
Something like a Drobo, although they might seem expensive, and adding to them the HDD’s will add to the cost, they are going to work out the cheapest when you see online storage subscription costs.
And you have to remember that online storage can be stopped at any time without warning, they can even have servers go down, loose your data or loose access to your data for some time.
Https://mega.co.nz gives 50GB of free online storage that is encrypted from your computer, so they do not know what the data is, no one can download from it without you posting a link to the files. But probably not as secure as you might want it depending on the data you will be uploading, (encrypt it first into an archive to be double safe)

I may be wrong but looking at your post you could probably use a consumer backup solution too. If your in the UK we offer one that you may be interested in as its a live backup. We do also offer full business solutions if you want to talk to us for each employee having their own cloud space. See the link below for details of the consumer edition which you can free trial.

Your Questions About Business Online Services

Robert asks…
I want someone to design a web site for me to promote online businesses, programmes and services.?
I have a registered domain name. Now I want someone to build a professional site for me to start promote online businesses ,programmes and services. I will provide the relevant information. who can help me at a fee?

Jere answers:
There are many services out there. I would recommend that you do your own search. Many web hosts will assist you in building your own site and a few great ones will even do the work for you. It is critical to find a web designer or web host that will solve your traffic needs as well. Without targeted traffic, your website will do no justice.
While comparing options, first compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. This will ensure that you get the best fit for your needs and the most for your money. I went through this process and found great services. I would be happy to share my experience and show you the web host I use, if you choose to contact me through my profile. In my profile page here, I also have an example of my recent website project.
BEST WISHES!

Mary asks…
Anyone want to start a Online Business?
I have been thinking of starting a Online business venture based on SEO principals targeting organic traffic, profitable keywords, and article keyword writers. Something I’ve been thinking about for quite sometime just need to know if there are like minded people out there.Obviously there would have to be a total structure overview to all concerned. But it is something in reality that would work. Any positive or negative feed back is welcome.

Jere answers:
Having an online business is one thing, having one that stands a good chance of earning
one more money than being a clock punching grunt is rare. Forrester Research, and
business professors across the US [I am one] have deduced via EXTENSIVE research, that
pure on line businesses that sell goods and single company services stand a very poor
chance of earning a profit.
Key words are of no value if there is no UNMET demand for the services.
All traffic is organic. It is not something handed off to others.
If you have read several books on small biz management, and on entrepreneurship
and have written a biz plan……..I will guide you at no cost.
I hate to see “just another” on line biz start that has nothing to provide that
is innovative.

Lizzie asks…
Running an online business?
Anyone out there who runs an online business?
Can you give me some tips on starting out?
How do you get people to choose to be customers??

Jere answers:
What kind of online business? Is it Ecommerce? If so what are you selling? Give Superior Customer Service and the word will spread. Become a trusted voice in the community of buyers. If you’re selling gardening products, start a blog with gardening advice. If you’re selling calendars…create a list of important dates. You get the idea. Create a reason for potential buyers to visit your website.

Chris asks…
Child Care Business online .?
I am a retired certified childcare trainer. My duties were to teach, train and certify persons that wanted to work in a child care center or open their own child care center in their home. I am now retired after 15 years. I have so much knowledge I would still like to offer to childcare providers so they can be successful. I would like to do it online. I would like to know if anyone has any ideas that would make a great online child care business as far as offering day to day advice and ideas to providers. I’m looking for some nes strategies and ideas that you normally don’t see on every online child care site.
Thank you

Jere answers:
A couple ways I just thought of now… Most involve local, so they will NOT be online. You can help some of the stuff via online research, the primary contact would be offline.
1) Mail some cover letters and resume to child care centers. They usually are too busy to train, but they may be able to refer some candidates to you, that they want to hire, but have no certification (yet).
2) Same, but offer yourself as a “consultant” to look over their operation, offer suggestions, that will benefit their existing business (i.e. Present as win-win situation)
3) Do the same, but to local job boards, job centers, school career centers, and so on, as a trainer, certifier
4) Teach classes in local community college or such. If your training cert is still current, they’d love to have someone like you teach classes. How much they’ll pay I have no idea. At least you’ll get your name out there.
5) Write articles (squidoo, hubpages, etc.) online, on how to search for child care centers in your area, what to look for, what to run away from, etc. Any specific tidbits about childcare you care to share. Obviously you’re not going to reveal ALL your secrets. It’s basically teaser bits for them to contact you for your full services.
It won’t happen overnight, but then a Rome is not built overnight. It’s a marketing campaign, and it will take months or years for it to bear full fruit.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Online

Betty asks…
Can a minor start an online Business?
I’m wondering if it would be possible for me, as a minor, to start a business online where I sell merchandise over the internet. ARe there restrictions to that sort of thing?

Jere answers:
Hi,
It is possible. I just read a story of a teenager who built a very successful online business. Very inspiring indeed:
http://case-studies.sitesell.com/home-made-websites.html#NORI
Good luck to you!

Maria asks…
Which Websites Are Best To Advertise on To Get Business From Other Businesses?
I am advertising my stepfathers’ tow truck business online. He has been getting more calls from individuals and got business with one business on a regualr basis from this advertising so far. Which websites should I advertise on to get more business from other businesses? I have been advertising on sites like Craigslist and also business directories. Any advice is much appreciated.

Jere answers:
There certainly are business oriented forums, etc. Some that can be specifically targeted from Adwords or direct banner space buys. Whether a businessman has time to kill on these sites may be an issue.
The higher potential return from BtoB might justify more expensive campaigns, like direct mailing physical literature or calendars that stick around as reminders.

Linda asks…
Is something like Yahoo business a good way to start up a small crafting business?
Or is it better to use a site where many people are selling their items? I would like to launch a small craft selling business online and was curious if my best bet would be something like yahoo small business to put my things out there or if I should instead go onto one of those online marketplaces? Does anyone have any input or info. on this?

Jere answers:
Personally, for someone just starting out, I would recommend going with a free blog and a marketplace like Etsy or ArtFire.
If you join a marketplace, you have the chance that someone will find your crafts just by browsing and searching the main site. You can also find support in their forums. If you need something free, ArtFire does offer a limited basic membership.
The free blog is where you will do some of your marketing for your shops at the bigger marketplaces. I do recommend getting your own domain name for use with your blog. It gives your customers something easy to remember; and, it establishes a better identity for your new business. As you grow, you already have the domain and can build on it, eventually opening your own storefront if desired.
Keep in mind that even though you are using an online marketplace, you still need to market yourself just as much. The marketplaces help to speed things up a little, since they make it easier to get listed with Google Shopping, for instance. But, they are not a miracle solution. You will still need to find ways of advertising yourself both online and off.

Carol asks…
What do you wish you knew about starting an internet business?
If you wanted to start your own business online, what do you wish you knew in order to make it successful. What I mean by this is that if there are things you already don’t know. What questions do you have to help you in building your own internet business?

Jere answers:
Would like to know what is going to sell.

Sandra asks…
How should i respond to a relative selling stuffs online for the first time?
How should i tell my relative if I do not want to make a purchase online politely and still support my relative in the sales business online? Thanks, because she wrote this to me:
“If you have time, will you go to this website and see if there’s anything you would like to purchase?May I also ask you to let your friends know about my shop? “

Jere answers:
Just say that you took a look at it, but that there is nothing you need at this point, but you will continue to keep your eye out and visit regularly. Your relative should understand. That’s the way business goes. Some people will buy from you, some will not. They should be very aware of the fact, and it shouldn’t hurt their feelings at all. (assuming that’s what you’re worried about).
Tell your friends and people you know to give it a chance and look at it though. That’s the best thing for you to do.
Good Luck

Your Questions About Internet Business Plan

Betty asks…
How Internet affectecs the economy in good and bad ways?
Hello I have to make a presentation for my oral comunication on wednesday and I am planning on doing about How Internet affects to the global economy in good and bad way, so I want to explain with some poimts for example one positive way it can be companies spend less money in marketing publishing on Internet or I am not sure but I think Internet business do not pay taxes and affects the economy (US) Ok thank you for helping

Jere answers:
Economically speaking, there aren’t any bad ways. The Internet removes transaction costs and broadens markets, making them more efficient.

James asks…
How do I write a business plan?
I want to open a business and apply for an SBA (Small Business Loan), but from what I understand, in order to apply you must have a business plan prepared. If I tried to prepare one now, I would just be wasting my time because I have no idea what should be in it or what to discuss. Can anyone suggest a web site with a rubrick or some information about this?

Jere answers:
You can surf the internet, I know there are sites that offer “templates” to help you but you have to pay for them. They are very hard work and time consuming to create one. I’ve done 2 of them.

Chris asks…
What does it take to start an Internet business and grow it into a multimillion pound company?
I want to know what it takes to start an Internet based business small from, say, a back bedroom, and grow it into a multimillion pound company with offices all over, i.e. in terms of cost to start the company and how you would go about building it into a strong business?

Jere answers:
It needs to be a product that people have a track record of buying, that you are able to reach those buyers easily and that has lots of repeat business and referral potential.
It can cost a very small amount to set up the back bedroom operation – computer with internet connection and a domain name with web hosting.
If you’re running it as an internet business do you really need lots of offices? It may be more viable to outsource some things and do the rest from your “headquarters”.
The first thing to do is your research into your potential market and then to put together a plan for how you’re going to run the business.
Good luck!

Nancy asks…
Whats the best book to read on starting a internet business?
I’m a complete beginner and dont know a lot about internet business so the book has to be for beginners.

Jere answers:
There’s probably a book in the “For Dummies” series you can pick up, much of one’s real world education happens online, hanging around Internet Marketing Forums, one popular with beginners that has a lot of training titles, some good, some not, that are reasonably priced, on their WSO section is WarriorForum.com.
Many people start with affiliate marketing, which has virtually no startup cost, although realistically if you planned to make a living at it, it might take at least 6 months to learn the ropes and setup the means to get lost of eyes on your ads.
An online store will require some inventory and if self hosted, some cost for the facilities. An eBay or Amazon store are the easy way to get started. It’s a highly competitive world, the winning stores seem to buy in volume and sell with razor thin margins in some areas like electronics.

Sandra asks…
What should I name my Green Internet business?
I am planning on starting a Green Internet business when i get done with College and i need help picking a site name….It needs to be something that i can use for other stuff rather then a internet business like a store and what not. Something with a mascot would be cool to
Sorry i thought i put more information on there. i am going to be selling various green products to homes and businesses that help make there home/office more “green” and im planning on opening a small shop that people can get green products that they cant get at a everyday store.

Jere answers:
Wow some more specifics would be good.
How about
EntreManures (like entrepreneur and composting?) The mascot can be a cute worm.
Or maybe GreenMinds. The logo/mascot can be a brain colored green.
VirtualAlternatives? (green and internet)
DeeplyGreen
Greeneration
greenhorn (a pun since the word means newbie on the subject)
greenealogist
greenies (the mascot can be a green colored genie in a bottle)
greenius (maybe a green colored Einstein?)

Your Questions About How To Do Business Cards Online

Mandy asks…
Looking to print Business Cards Online?
I am looking to print some business cards…i don’t want to spend too much but at the same time don’t want to settle for a cheap BC either. Let me know on some online companies that are good. Thanks

Jere answers:
I just used this website www.onspotprinting.com It was my first time using this site and they produced great quality on both my business cards and postcards that I ordered. They even have this new print to press printer driver called PDF JobReady. I was able to print a PDF file off this driver or print directly to them while choosing my specs for my product. Thought that’s was pretty cool…anyways good luck.

Charles asks…
how safe is it to use your credit card on business online ?
I am worried about revealing my credit card number and its security number to the internet.

Jere answers:
The low security of the credit card system presents countless opportunities for fraud. This opportunity has created a huge black market in stolen credit card numbers, which are generally used quickly before the cards are reported stolen.
The goal of the credit card companies, as they say, is not to eliminate fraud, but to “reduce it to manageable levels”, such that the total cost of both fraud and fraud prevention is minimized. This implies that high-cost low-return fraud prevention measures will not be used if their cost exceeds the potential gains from fraud reduction.
Most Internet fraud is done through the use of stolen credit card information which is obtained in many ways, the simplest being copying information from retailers, either online or offline. There have been many cases of crackers obtaining huge quantities of credit card information from company databases. It is not unusual for employees of companies that deal with millions of customers to sell credit card information to criminals[citation needed].
Despite efforts to improve security for remote purchases using credit cards, systems with security holes are usually the result of poor implementations of card acquisition by merchants. For example, a website that uses SSL to encrypt card numbers from a client may simply email the number from the webserver to someone who manually processes the card details at a card terminal. Naturally, anywhere card details become human-readable before being processed at the acquiring bank is a security risk. However, many banks offer systems such as ClearCommerce, where encrypted card details captured on a merchant’s webserver can be sent directly to the payment processor.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is the agency responsible for prosecuting criminals who engage in credit card fraud in the United States, but they do not have the resources to pursue all criminals. In general, they only prosecute in cases exceeding US$5,000 in value. Three improvements to card security have been introduced to the more common credit card networks but none has proven to help reduce credit card fraud so far. First, the on-line verification system used by merchants is being enhanced to require a 4 digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) known only to the card holder. Second, the cards themselves are being replaced with similar-looking tamper-resistant smart cards which are intended to make forgery more difficult. The majority of smartcard (IC card) based credit cards comply with the EMV (Europay MasterCard Visa) standard. Third, an additional 3 or 4 digit code is now present on the back of most cards, for use in “card not present” transactions. See CVV2 for more information.

Joseph asks…
Do most online businesses accept debit cards when they list credit cards as only payment option?
When a site lists all the regulars like visa, mastercard, discover, will they accept a visa debit card? I know everyone is different but generally when they say credit card, can they mean debit?

Jere answers:
Debit cards with Visa logo, for example, can be used as credit card payment online. And yes, online businesses accept those
For the side of the seller, however, transaction fees are higher for debit cards so they don’t really advertise that they accept debit cards
From the buyer’s perspective, debit cards don’t offer the same protection as credit cards such as dispute charges in the case the online retailer did not send the item, or item is not described

Lizzie asks…
How to print business cards online ?

Jere answers:
Well for printing my business cards i only trust http://www.imageshoponline.com the got really great stuff and its quite professional 🙂

Susan asks…
how to create a business card.
I would like to create a business card. I want a unique background. I have the background in my head but I don’t know where to find any for free. What is a good website to create a business card and put a unique background on it both for free?

Jere answers:
You probably can’t get a business card with a “unique” background for free. Any online place that does them will charge you for shipping, probably several times the actual shipping cost, and will include somewhere on the front or back of the card their own information to try to drive more business to their website.
Since you have access to a computer, you CAN create your own cards with a word processing program (MS Word, Open Office) or a graphics program (Print Shop, Print Master, MS Publisher). All of them have templates for cards that will print on Avery 8371 or 28877 business card blank stock. The stock is prescored so all you do is bend them at the score, and they will come apart with virtually no perf marks. The card stock is available at any office supply store, or WalMart and similar stores.

Your Questions About Direct Marketing

Lizzie asks…
how do i address a direct marketing envelope? i have only the address?
i am sending direct marketing letters to potential clients. I have address only , no name. How do I address envelope?

Jere answers:
G’day Kathy N,
I had a direct market campaign sent out recently for my company.
I’ll give you several suggestions and it’s up to use if you would like to use them. It’s a small list, but it should serve as a base of ideas for you to work from, beside I do not know what you actually do so any of this advice could be useless?
For the name:
Dear Associate/s
Dear Friend
Dear Business Owner
Dear Company Owner/Director
To My Potential Customer (very cheeky!)
To the Business Owner
ATTN: Marketing Director
ATTN: Business Owner
For the details:
For a more personalised approach, hand write everything and stick on a stamp, it’s more time consuming and more expensive (55cents), but the opening rate is increased by 60% as opposed to a typed letter and an electronic postage paid stamp(36.5cents non-essential mail delivery).
Good Luck.

How do I find a Go-getter dynamic lady ( could be from modelling background) to head our operations in Mumbai?
I have been looking for a dynamic lady to head our Mumbai operations for almost two years. I am not succeeding. Does anybody know a good search agency in Mumbai that can help me in this objective? The person I am looking need to be smart and could be from direct marketing, public relations, modelling and acting background. Age between 25-35 years

Jere answers:
So basically…..you want a model who’s excellent in marketing and operations??

Betty asks…
kindly tell me some direct marketing tools for a supermarket?
i have an essay regarding direct marketing in a supermarket , why using these tools and what will lead when using them .
thanks

Jere answers:
There are some obvious tools that have been used or decades, one is a newsprint circular stuffed inside another newspaper; perhaps less costly, but doesn’t stand out on its own. Then, there is the same circular that is available inside the market; less costly, but more effective as you have that person inside the Market. TV, though not “direct” is a shotgun attempt to get someone’s attention to make purchases, but no retention of details are possible because it is virtual, nothing physical in hand.
Mail is expensive, even as Bulk Standard Mail; let’s say a newsprint circular; costing somewhere between 20 and 35 cents per piece mailed, perhaps more if letter size or flat size, where weight and thickness are real issues. The good part is that these are addressed to individuals; adding personalization. However, are you interested in seeing your name on the piece or the “Deals” inside that will result in savings or get you to purchase those wild truffles at $150 per pound? For me, it’s all about what’s inside.
Though around for quite some time, Saturation Mail could be the ultimate answer. About one year ago, the USPS made Saturation Mail available to most everyone and called it Every Door Direct Mail, or EDDM. For a flat size piece of mail, with some minor restrictions, following directions issued by the USPS, one can mail that flat size piece for less than 15 cents each. The major restriction is that an entire carrier route needs to be mailed, not portions of it. You can target neighborhoods or just around where the Market is and target consumers only if desired and skip the businesses or, target both. For a Supermarket, EDDM is an answer to a prayer. Targeted and Cost Effective.
For research on EDDM, do an online search for EDDM or Every Door Direct Mail. The USPS will provide you with enough material on the subject to keep you busy for a week.

George asks…
How many employees at GEICO are insurance sales agents?
I am looking for the number of sales agents at GEICO in the US. These would be call-center type employees that provide insurance quotes and sell policies. I have heard that GEICO has 20-30K customer service agents; this number probably includes the sales agents as well.
I am doing this for a graduate research project on direct marketing.
Perhaps there is a GEICO employee or ex-employee that could help me out?

Jere answers:
Contact me via email for the answer.

Daniel asks…
How many times should I reach my customers per month and how?
I have a business and I am trying something new this month. I’m going to direct market to existing customers with special coupons, direct e-mail (for questions and answers) and secondary customer referal compinsation about 3 times or more per customer each month.
Will this work, and what other ways can I produce more capital gain?

Jere answers:
3 times a month seems like way too much, they’ll start getting annoyed. That’s 36 times per year, way too much, they’ll start seeing it and just closing it, or worse putting it through a spam filter as junk mail.
If you do it, do it the classy way. Make sure to ask them if they’d like to sign up for free e-coupons, never assume that just because they’re customers that they will want them automatically, and you don’t want to become a nuisance or they’ll find someone who isn’t.
Then I suggest doing it once per month. Not only is this easier for your customers, and makes it more likely for them to pay attention to each one, but it’s also easier for you to draft up and send.

Your Questions About Business Online San Diego

Robert asks…
I need help finding a good accredited school for business administration?
I am interested in schooling for business administration, but at the same time I am not looking to be scammed and actually get an education. Any suggestions?

Jere answers:
Hi there,
If you are looking for the online college route here are a few things to consider…
When looking into an online college make sure you consider the following:
1) are the “for-profit” or “non-profit”? – Typically you would want to look for a “non-profit” college. For-profit college (like Ashford, UOP, Everst, Devry, Kaplan, etc) are all about making money and less about the student’s futures and education. For-profit colleges are those that have given online education a bad name. Most for-profit colleges their admissions department is constantly changing and hiring is like a revolving door. Non-profit colleges are focused on making sure the students are a right match for the college. They don’t enroll just anyone – they want to make sure they accept students who will succeed and want what the college has to offer. Also a lot of the schools that have ground campuses and are non-profit still hold a positive reputation. On your diploma once you graduate it won’t say “Graduated from University of California, Davis Online” it will say “Graduated from University of California, Davis”. If you go to schools like Kaplan and graduate – employers do look down on the for-profit colleges and it will state “Kaplan” on your diploma.
2) are they regionally or nationally accredited? – You would want a college that is regionally accredited. That means your degree and credits are valid in other states and at other schools. This would be important if you decided you wanted to go to grad school, transfer schools, or when you are applying for jobs showing you have a legitimate bachelors degree.
Here are a few non-profit regionally accredited colleges that offer degrees online:
Urbana University:
Business Administration
Business Administration with an emphasis in Health Care Management
Masters in Criminal Justice
elearning.urbana.edu
San Diego Christian College (faith based)
Christian Ministries
Business Administration
Human Development
elearning.sdcc.edu
Southwestern Christian College (faith based)
Business Management
Business Leadership
Biblical Leadership
Human and Family Services
elearning.swcu.edu
I hope that helps!

Carol asks…
Do employers care where you get your degree from?
I’m currently a senior in high school is going to be graduating. I’ve applied to only the colleges around my area in San Diego because my family doesn’t have much money to pay for dorms and a that. I’ve been rejected by every college I applied to except Cal State San Marcos (CSUSM). The major I applied to for all my colleges was computer engineering and I applied for computer science for CSUSM. All my friends tell me that CSUSM is not that great of a school in general and notably employers are going to hire you if you earn a degree in computer science from here. I’ve done some research online I could barely find any good evidence about CSUSM’s computer science because the school is mostly about business. If I get a degree from this school in computer science, would I be limiting my job options? Do employers care where I get my degree? If so, would it just be better if I went to a community college for two years and just transfer to a much more valued university like Sam Diego State University? What would be my best choice?

Jere answers:
To a certain extent, yes. If your degree was from University of Phoenix, your application would likely be placed in the trash. If you graduated from Stanford, it might get a longer review. However, if two applicants from State Schools both apply, both would be given equal opportunities. So, if you choose a Cal State over a UC, it would not negatively affect your chances of employment.

Linda asks…

Online Business Help?
I am trying to start an online business and am having issues trying to figure out the legal aspects of it. With the IRS I understand the income tax and the self employment tax but the estimation taxes makes no sense to me since I have no idea what I would be making this year since I have never ran a business before. Also, I am a bit confused because I can find no direct information about the laws on online business instead I am trying to base everything off of small business law. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of any information about federal or state (pennsylvania) law regarding online business.

Jere answers:
Congrats on your venture! 🙂 Starting a new business is always exciting. Online businesses must comply with the regulations of their states as well as federally. Each state has different laws so definitely check your state’s website for more details.
( http://www.pa.gov/portal/server.pt/community/doing_business_in_pa/3017 and http://www.pasbdc.org/index/default.asp)
The type of business you operate will determine your course of action in regards to taxes. Will you be accepting payments online nationally or just locally?
In regards to your business taxes you usually need to file every quarter in order to comply, so make certain to save a percentage of your revenue.
I hope that helps

Thomas asks…
how do i find grants to start a business?
i am a female wanting to start an ambulance service in rural mississippi.

Jere answers:
You stand a better chance of getting grants if you are planning to start a non-profit business.
It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK – lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.
Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.
Even if you buy books on “how to get grants” or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same – hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.
Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html…
“The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments.”
Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business — THERE’S NONE.
Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. Minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program
Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs
For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center’s Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It’s a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for “students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices.” Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don’t have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.
You can start your business with no money — but it will not be easy. But if you’re willing to work hard, and be creative and willing to learn, you can surely do it.
With poor credit, getting a low-cost loan from the Small Business Administration will not be an option. In SBA’s document “CREDIT FACTORS A POTENTIAL BORROWER SHOULD KNOW” http://www.sba.gov/financing/preparation/qualify.html you can qualify for an SBA loan if you have equity investment and collateral — which both means money. SBA wants to see that you yourself is invested in your business, so they want to make sure that you have money in your business as well. Without money, then you cannot be approved.

Betty asks…
staring up a small business?

Jere answers:
Starting a small business takes a lot of courage. But, as they say, courage does not pay the bills. To be successful – to stay in business – you need more than courage. You need a combination of hard work, skill, perseverance, and lots of luck.
Some things you need to consider:
– “How can I support my family while I build up by business?”
– “What are my abilities?”
– “Is there a market for the product or service I have chosen?”
– “How long will it take this business to reach the financial goal I have?”
You may want to read the article “How to Start a New Business Successfully” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol51/launch.htm , which lists six steps to launch a new business successfully:
1. Provide a benefit.
2. Determine the fit with your market.
3. Right timing is everything
4. Be ready to support your business
5. Develop a blueprint for success
6. Market, market, market
To give you ideas on what exactly do you need to start your own business, here are ten things you need to know before launching your own business “10 Things You Need to Know When Starting Your Own Home Business” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/052006/startingbiz.htm .
I recommend that you read the following books:
– What No One Ever Tells You About Starting Your Own Business : Real Life Start-Up Advice from 101 Successful Entrepreneurs

Sometimes, you would need advice and help as you navigate the process of starting a business. There are several places where you may be able to find a mentor:
Government Mentoring Programs such as SBDCs, which works with community colleges and local business development councils to offer mentoring programs http://www.sba.gov/sbdc/sbdcnear.html ; or the Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training http://www.sba.gov/womeninbusiness/wnet_roundtables.html
Volunteer programs such as SCORE http://www.score.org which is composed of mostly retired executives and entrepreneurs
Formal mentoring programs such as Athena Foundation http://www.athenafoundation.org/programs/globallinks.html , Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program http://www.helzbergmentoring.org/HEMP/ , or The Aspen Institute MicroMentor Program http://www.micromentor.org
Professional organizations such as the National Women’s Business Council http://www.nwbc.gov/Mentoring/programs.html
Industry and trade associations
Local business groups, such as the chamber of commerce
Local chapters of business groups
Also, you may want to avail of low-cost courses that SBA or local counties offer in starting a business. SBA has free online courses that you may want to take on starting a business http://www.sba.gov/training/courses.html

Mandy asks…
Is mail order business worth it or is it a scam?
I’m talking about the one (not online) which involves simply stuffing and mailing envelopes with promotional material of products/services of companies to prospective customers.

Jere answers:
Most “businesses” of this type are scams. If they ask you for money to “join” their exclusive group of home mailers or to prove that you are “serious about wanting to succeed”, etc., then run away at top speed. Businesses that need legit help with mailing will pay YOU to help THEM; they won’t want you to pay them for the privilege of working with them. There are legit mail order businesses out there but you’ll need to do some research to weed out the scams. Good Luck.

William asks…
Is it sketchy that an online retailer…?
would only accept money orders? I mean I dont feel safe sending a money order…Thoughts…?
There is the paypal credit card option on the front page, but when I proceed to checkout it doesnt give me that option

Jere answers:
An online business should accept credit cards or even paypal. Does this business have that option? If they don’t i would be concerned. Also most online business have a customer service number, ask them for it. Ask them to provide an address a phone number, or even a business license number that you can check with a consumer watch group. Good luck!

Richard asks…
