Mark asks…
With all these adds on TV and the Internet on how to make money, how can you find the one that is ligament ?
Everyone sees these adds on TV especially late night, early morning. How to make money in real estate, ebay, the internet and other ways. How can you detemine if they are telling the truth and get real answers in what is involved and real results of the average person that is doing this business?

Jere answers:
I think that you’ll find some education will really help you. I recommend reading and getting involved in an investment club. For reading, try “The Millionaire Next Door” and “Rich Dad, Poor Dad.” For an investment club, go to the National Association of Investors Corp: http://www.better-investing.org/Public/default
Also, realize that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and that if it involves multi-level marketing, most people fail at that. Oh, and you should learn to spell or use spell check: you mean “ads” not “adds” and “legitimate” not “ligament.”

Betty asks…
Whats your opinion on the best internet business?
Hi everyone, I need advice on a good sound business to put on the internet, something thats low cost on start up and produces results. I need cash in my pocket not another headache from empty promises almost every work from home business gives.

Jere answers:
I would just like to sort of…recount what another person has answered on here, as well as give my opinion. The person i’m speaking of is the one who mentioned “multilevel marketing”…Here’s the deal, MLM works for people that actually put time and effort into it. The Direct Selling Association, as well as the Better Business Bureau, and the Federal Trade Commission all are watchdogs for MLM’s…I will not deny that there are people out there running pyramid schemes and all that crap, I’ve fallen victim to them before myself. However there are reputable business opportunities out there that are low-cost on start up and produce results.
I encourage you to get credible information on anything you look into. And by credible I don’t mean goto google or yahoo and search because we all know that just gets you a bunch of people’s OPINIONS!!
I personally do run an online business that is profitable and deals with private franchising, so I am bias, but here is a website that will give you some information and some links/videos for credible information… Www.thisbiznow.com
I will not give out a phone number or personal website or anything like that which I’ve seen a thousand times on here…However if you have questions or concerns about any company you’re looking into please feel free to email me and I’ll give you what information I’ve researched myself. Hopefully that will give you a head start on things. Duh_pariah_papaya@yahoo.com

Steven asks…
What percentage of the property value should be added for insurance (rebuild) value?
I am about to obtain insurance quotes via the internet for my house and am being asked for the rebuild value (ie demolish and rebuild). What percentage increase over and above the current sale value would provide adequate cover? Thanks.

Jere answers:
It never ceases to amaze how Americans give answers to questions posted on the UK site convinced that they know the answer.
Frankly, however well intentioned, they know nothing about the UK market.
The demolish and rebuild cost is usually condsiderably lower than the value of the property. Why ? Because in the UK houses are the cheap bit…..it’s the LAND that is expensive, and your land doesn’t burn down. For example take two similar houses, one in central London and the other out in the sticks, property values will be very very different …but rebuild values will be almost the same. As an example my own house is valued at around £450,000…. But the rebuild costs are only about £125,000.
Most (not all) UK buildings insurance covers any home upto a rebuild value of £ 250,000, it would be unusual for a house to have a rebuild cost over that and you start getting into specialist stuff where internet shopping may not be appropriate.
For us mere mortals and indeed 95% of the UK population though, buying through the internet is a cheap and effecient way of buying your house and contents cover.
The answers you see above saying ‘see an agent’ are almost certainly posted by American ‘agents’ who
a) make their living selling insurance so don’t want anyone using the internet and
b) don’t understand the UK insurance market.
The best way you can get a good (and free) rebuild estimate is to use the rebuilding costs calculator put together by the Association of British Insurers and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
You have to register, but that’s free and after that you can use it upto 6 times a year without charge. You can do it fairly rough and ready since (as I say) if it comes in miles under 250k which I bet it will….. It really doesn’t matter how accurate it is as the policy is almost ceratinly going to be …”to a maximum of £250,000″.
You should read the Policy Summary (what’s covered and what isn’t) even if you don’t read the full policy. And before someone jumps down my throat saying “all policies are different”…. No they aren’t in the UK, there are only minor differences (and the policy summary will be enough to highlight those !)
Good luck.
