Internet blocking business solution?
I am looking for a software or hardware item that can block internet access but allow employees to receive email through outlook. What can i use????

Jere answers:
Not to insult you or your employees but you might want to search on the keywords “nanny software”. Anything that can be used to keep an eye on computer-savvy teens these days is likely to fill your needs and some.
Nanny software is designed to run invisibly, watch everything, and block some things. You might not need all of that but its easier to get a nanny program to do less than it is to try and find something that only does alittle bit.

INTERNET MONITORING for a business solution?
my wife has been having her internet attacked repeadedly by hackers and she wants me to remote monitor her internet from my computer store K KOMPUTERS. is there a software that i can use to monitor internet activity from a remote location using her dynamic ip address. i have a static ip address and an internet server gateway. 20meg cable internet and a voip phone system in my company.
this request by my wife has also spawned an idea of offering a network monitoring service in my company. i am also a licensed private investigator.

Jere answers:
Have you thought of looking at what is available in parental control software packages? Some of those might have what you want. I’m not sure to what extent they cover all the traffic but it’s worth looking at that area of software. And network software. Why not phone a company that would NEED to have good control of what goes in and out of their network and ask to speak to their support staff? They should be able to point you to worthwhile software. Cisco may put out some useful software for you. But the result, I suspect, would be a bit like filtering all the traffic that goes from her computer and would cause a high resource load.
I’d suggest you go right through her computer and give it a comprehensive cleanup and then make sure it’s properly secured and she might get left alone. Possibly there is just ONE thing on there that keeps letting them in. Sites like Major Geeks, Bleeping Computer, Geeks To Go, and Techguy have people who are very well trained in finding things that have been overlooked. I particularly like a couple of guides from Major Geeks. The first one is about cleaning up and the second one, which you are pointed to at the end of the clean up guide, is about securing your computer.
