Insurance is good coz someone may make a claim against your product or service if they get injured or suffer through incorrect information etc, Business rates i think you mean your property then no if you buisness does not take over the room you are using as computer space ie, if you work from your bedroo providing your room is still usable as a bedroom you will be ok, you may need to or even wish to voluntarily register for vat but unless your turnover reaches a set limit then you dont need to
