Your Questions About Direct Marketing Companies

What does a financial services marketing company actually do?

What does a financial services marketing company actually do?

If you worked for one, like sales or operations, what would the work entail? Anybody know?

Jere answers:

A financial services marketing company seeks out prospects for financial services. That could be done through direct mail, researching public records and telephone solicitations. They then sell the “leads” that are developed to providers (sellers) of financial services.

Starting a new division what should payouts be?

I have been asked to start a new divinsion of an online direct marketing company. Although this is a high profile positions the base salary is way under what someone would normaly get at an exisitng company. Essentialy building the database up and re-marketing this data. I have been offered 10 percent net revenue of this division, but I have to cover all costs with this 10 percent. .

If this division does 5 million in revenue, the division gets $500K to cover Salaries/Commissions, Technology, Misc.

I feel this is not a great deal? Am I wrong here?

Jere answers:

If you’re in the UK, check out the Direct Marketing Association and use a company that’s registered with them. They also have an annual show usually in Earls Court or Olympia, which is worth going to for shopping around and meeting some of the companies that provide lists.

Has Anyone Heard Of The Efusjon Energy Club?

I have a friend trying to get me to join this club. He makes it seem like the best thing since sliced bread. Is it a traditional direct marketing company or how is it different?

Jere answers:

Hey True,
I’ve been researching this company for a few weeks now and all I can come up with is good stuff. It’s a relatively new product with new flavors still coming out. It’s an all natural energy drink. What sets this company apart from any other energy drink company out there is their marketing. They have an unusual comp plan than will make it easier for more people to make money and they are going to be teaming up with Facebook. So, as far as I can tell: good product, good comp plan, excellent endorsement by Facebook. Sounds like a winner to me. It will be key to get on a winning team though. For more info:

Who has experience with network marketing and taxes?

I received a 1099 from my network marketing company for commissions and overrides. I also received a statement from them called Taxable Income REcap that shows how much I spent on Purchasing Products. You buy products at wholesale and sell them at retail. The difference is your income or “right now” money. This money is not easily tracked because they can’t tell how much you sold at full cost, how much you sold at discounts and how much you kept for personal use or as gifts to further your business. Do I need to somehow claim this on my taxes as income or should I just claim what was noted on my 1099? There is also a box on my 1099-MISC form that is checked that says “Payer made direct sales of $5000 or more of consumer products to a buyer (recipient) for resale.” Does this relate to me or is this the company just saying that I bought more than $5000 worth of stuff to sell as I see fit? Anyone have any experience with this on their federal taxes?

Jere answers:

You will need to fill out a schedule c. That is where you report the cost of goods sold, the income you made and how much product you have left. I would claim the income on my 1099 and anymore that you might have from this business. All a 1099 is what they(the co.) has pd you. They do not know what you spent or made elsewhere. You can look up instructions for a schedule c on IRS.gov. Type schedule c in the key words box.
