Your Questions About Business Online Backup

George asks…

Do I need to keep business records if my payments are wired?

If my business is online based and I’m paid by companies such as adsense via wire transfer then do I need to keep written records?

I have the incomings via wire and then costs of server etc which is taken via debit payment, everything is in a business account so I can just view the history when looking to complete a tax return?

Jere answers:

I mean, you don’t *need* to — if you’re comfortable with trusting a company or bank with your only access to your records.

Personally, I would absolutely keep a backup for myself in case of any potential issues with retrieving the information later. Your computer could explode. Anonymous could attack. The company could go bankrupt. Yes, your records are likely safe and retrievable. But this time last year, it was also likely that I could look forward to football season right around now. Strange things happen, and it’s usually best to be prepared for any contingency. ESPECIALLY in business. It’s easier to save copies as you go than have to track everything down later.

How to send business email, without being considered as spam?

We send business emails to potential clients, once in a year. But, of late, a number of business emails sent are thrown out, considering them as spam. The very purpose of sending mails are lost. How to reach the targeted persons without being thrown out as spam?

Jere answers:

Use an accredited online agency who will broadcast the emails for you via a registered server. This will make it less likely that your potential clients servers will consider the email as as spam.

However, their firewalls could be picking up keywords in the subject line of your email which are also having them listed as spam.

If this continues to be a problem, you might want to consider using another backup medium e.g. Sending a brochure by post.

How long does it take visa to process an online payment?

Just put some money in it today online and im wondering how long it takes to show up? My mom says visa doesnt process money on the weekends, is this true? I need to buy something on ebay, so i want the money to show up on the visa account as soon as possible. thank you for your help.

Jere answers:

Depending on what type of Visa card you have; whether prepaid debit, ATM through your bank account, and/or credit card; the following would apply:

ATM Visa Debit Cards, would post immediately as CASH into your bank ATM checking account as long as you made the deposit before Friday it would post at midnight if it were CASH.

Regular Revolving Credit Cads, would post anywhere from 3-4 business days, and/or 5-7 if mailed to your account if you were not associated with a bank that granted the card to you so that you could make the payment in person. If in person, the funds would post to your account any business day, the same day; but would not be available for 2-3 posting days.

If Visa Prepaid Card, you would be able to login on to your account online and see the funds immediately and you would not have to worry about waiting for the bank to clear the funds. Your Mom was almost right, but what she’s failing to realize here is that Visa Corporation is not the one clearing the payment, but it’s your bank that the Visa Card is issued from. Visa Corporation is the owner of the copyright logo, Visa; but they do not have anything to do with your payments and what goes on with your payments once you pay your bank.

In the future, as a backup, get a Visa Prepaid Card, load funds worldwide using your same CASH by purchasing a Money Pack and you can purchase them 24/7 through CVS and other local pharmacies, activate your Money Pack, and place funds quickly on your Visa or Mastercard ATM Debit Card and immediately have funds available in 2 seconds! It’s awesome and I personally use it as a backup and you get a virtual checking account with them also. If you would have chosen this route, had this type of card already setup and activated; you would be able right now this second to login to Ebay and make your purchase online for whatever it is you wish to purchase. If you ever wish to apply for one of our prepaid Visa or Mastercard ATM Debit Cards, please contact us at our website for more information! What would you not backup in a system backup?

I know what i should be backing up for a typical home and business computer but what would be unneccessary to back up?

Jere answers:

When backing up files, you want to exclude anything that you can. In the event of the corruption of some of your data by a malicious user, the more files that you backup the more likely that you back up corrupted data. You should backup business files with customer data, financial records, and other similarly important things. Personal backups should include files that are very difficult for you to get back, or time consuming to do so, what type of files this includes is different for every user so it is up to you to decide. From a business standpoint it is critical to have theft protection as well as disaster protection, so you definitely want to use an online service to do your backups. I do this as well for my personal use with http://www.backupspace.com/ trial is one dollar for 25 GB so its definitely worth checking out. Really fast and easy install too by the way.

Unzip it into a common folder on your hard drive. Log into your new hosting server and upload the entire site with one drag and drop via FTP. If done correctly, the site should work fine. You need to keep a MIRRORED image of your online site on your hard drive anyway. Next time you will not have to have it zipped. Plus, it’s easier to edit locally and upload/overwrite the pages.
