Your Questions About Business Online

Michael asks…
I wanted to ask consumers of an internet based market what they would like to see online, business wise?
I want to start a business online but do not know what to do so i decided to ask you, the customer, what you would like to see in the upcoming year. Im open to any suggestion’s or ideas you may have. Any useful information would be very grateful thank you.

Jere answers:
Well, there are countless products and services out there people can offer. Some, of course, do better than others. But, if you were to ask a successful online business the secret to their success, they would tell you to sell or provide something you love. Try to concentrate less on finding the most profitable item and more on figuring out what interest you and what you know about. That way during the development or marketing of said product, you are motivated. Doing things in this way insures a better quality which in the end is what determines sales and inadvertently profits.
There is also another alternative to selling products or providing services online. Content-based sites are one of the most profitable online business, because people primarily use the internet for the gathering of information. Meaning you don’t have to sell or offer anything just educated or inform you visitors. Be certain, of course, to provide useful meaningful information; remember your product in this case is your content, and quality matters. Now, you may be asking yourself how can one make money without selling anything. The answer, Affiliate Programs. These are associations with other sites who pay you to refer or direct traffic to them. Programs like these are very simple to use, and if implement correctly, can be very profitable, yet you need to make sure to learn this proper execution.

Susan asks…
Starting my own online business.?
I am thinking of starting my own business but i don’t know where to start with. What kind of online business should i start? what are the things that i have to look out for? If you have any experience with online business, pleace give me some advices.
thx

Jere answers:
Most people who want to start an online business without knowing the basics will usually end up being eaten by online wolves in the guise of scammers and savvy marketers.
I would suggest you do some research about how people make money online first. Even running your own website about a topic that you love, then selling ad space on that website can qualify as an online business. In fact, starting your own blog is one of the easiest ways to start making money online. The most important thing about learning to make money online is to learn, learn, learn. And when you’re done learning, learn some more.
So here’s a breakdown of the basic online businesses :
– create your own website. Write good quality content about something that you’re passionate about. Think about what your visitors are interested in and write about that. When you have enough traffic, you can monetize that traffic with contextual ads like Adsense, Kontera or direct advertisers.
– sell your own products (either electronic or physical). This takes a lot more work because you need to create your own product, but tops on the long term benefits is you are in total control of your online business from product to sale.
– sell other people’s products. This is what being an affiliate means. The most apparent benefit to being an affiliate is that you don’t have to worry about development of the products you sell. You also get to pick and choose the products that best match your website content and sell them to your visitors.
– provide a service. Think about any skills that are unique to you and how you can sell them online.
– set up a brick and mortar store and then create a website as an extension to your store. Many people find that online sales account for a substantial income and combined with their regular brick and mortar sales, can add up to quite a tidy sum.
– a combination of any of the above.
So you see, an online business is basically about making money online. HOW you make money online first starts with the basic questions (like any other business) :
– What interests you.
– What knowledge and skills are unique to you.
– What talents you have that others don’t
Build an online business around what you love and everyday will be like being paid to enjoy yourself. Jump into something just for the sake of money even though you hate it, and everyday will seem like hell.

Robert asks…
What are good online businesses?
What is a good online business to start up that is cheap and easy to do?

Jere answers:
One of the easiest and cheapest way to start an online business is to create a blog (free with Blogger.com and others) and earn money on it with advertising (such as Google Adsense). Or you can sell on eBay and other online auction places
You may want to read the article “6 Hottest Businesses on the Web http://www.powerhomebiz.com/052006/web.htm which lists six areas of the new Web that present new opportunities to small online businesses:
The Web offers tremendous opportunities for those who know how to harness it. You hear of stories of people who earn thousands if not millions of dollars from doing business on Web. While there are many scams (same way in the traditional business world), there are various ways you can legitimately make money on the Web.
Here are the main business models you can adopt:
1. Sell products on the Web – Big boys like Amazon or Lillian Vernon online catalog or smaller businesses like BigKidsVideo.com or Candle4Less.com all sell products on the Web.
You can either sell: (a) through your own storefront through your own website or applications such as Yahoo Stores; or (b) sell through online auctions like eBay
2. Information Delivery. Others such as About.com or EuropeforVisitors.com create content and monetize their content in a number of ways:
a. Advertising – From the article “How to Generate Advertising Revenues for Your Web Site” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol28/adrevenues.htm , there are several ways you can earn money from advertising:
1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.
Burst Media http://www.burstmedia.com
Fastclick (ValueClick). Http://www.fastclick.com
Advertising.com. Http://www.advertising.com
Tribal Fusion http://www.tribalfusion.com
2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.
Google Adsense https://www.google.com/adsense/
Yahoo! Publishing Network (currently in beta and available to US publishers only) http://publisher.yahoo.com/
Intellixt http://vibrantmedia.com/site/web_01a5.htm
Quigo Adsonar http://www.quigo.com/adsonarexchange.htm
IndustryBrains http://www.industrybrains.com
Commission Junction Evolution http://www.cj.com
3. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: “no pain, no gain!”
b. Affiliate Programs – you sell other people’s products that your audience may be interested in; and you get a certain commission after the desired action was done (whether a sale, a lead, subscription to email newsletter, or however this is defined)
c. Paid online content. Hoovers.com or WebmasterWorld.com Supporters forum all require paid subscription before accessing the information
d. Content licensing and syndication. Some publishers such as the Associated Press get paid every time their content is published elsewhere

William asks…
Online Business.. How to make it legal?
I want to run an online network of online tutors to supply to students. It is like a matching student-tutors thing. I would want the business to be legal and legitimate. Are there licenses for this or formalities so I can have a name or maybe build a website for it eventually? Thanks for your precious time…

Jere answers:
Online businesses particularly online tutors are currently not required to get a license to operate.
But to make your business legal you need to go first and decide on your legal structure and then register your business. If you decide to be a sole proprietorship, you go to your local county/city clerk’s office and file for business registration. If you decide to operate as a partnership, LLC or corporation, then you register your business with the Secretary of State.
Part of the process of business registration will be filing for your DBA or doing business as; otherwise known as assumed business name or fictitious name. This is needed if you are naming a business with a name other than your given name.
Procedures for business registration vary per state. In Virginia, a sole proprietorship can complete the process in 30 minutes or 1 hour at most. While in Los Angeles, you will be required to make an announcement in the papers about the new business.
You did not indicate what state you are in. Go either to the Secretary of State website or your state government website (e.g. Alabama.gov) as they usually have information on the process of starting a business in the state.

Charles asks…
Does anybody own their own online business?
Hello yahooers..I’m looking for anybody who as their own online business..(not looking for any affliliate program, mlm, or network marketing programs. I am looking for somebody who owns the whole online business..I have some questions and actually I am looking for some advice and possibly looking for someone who I can team up with…

Jere answers:
Most online businesses are affiliated, MLM or network marketing programs. It’s funny that you would say your not looking for one of those, being as your asking someone to “team up with” that’s network marketing right there! Any business rather it’s online or off line, is going to have all the things you talk about not wanting to do. For instance, unless you make the product yourself, create your own web site and own your own connection and made it from scratch and no one else is involved in anyway shape or form, just you and the consumer, then your doing exactly what you claim you don’t want. What ever item you sale it’s going to come from a business. All businesses are part of an MLM model. Once you hire someone you’ve started a pyramid, once you’ve teamed up, you’ve created a network marketing situation.
So if your against all these things, don’t team up with anyone, make your own product, make your own web site, get your web site out there, market your own web site etc. I find it funny that everyone in any job or business is a part of all the things they state they don’t like.
I have my own online business through a company. I make the same amount of money that any business owner out there does after taxes and everything else that they have to dish out. Why? Because my business is through another business in which I don’t have the over head expenses that they do. I don’t have to pay for all the things that they do.
The point I’m trying to make is, unless you create everything from step one to step 1000, including the product, the service and don’t purchase anything from another company in any way shape or form, your affiliated, your network marketing.
Good Luck to you though!
Kaiden
