George asks…

Do you trust online schools and courses ?

I am searching for Programming , web Design , IT (general) and Business courses.
For web programming and design i have found online courses at ” W3schools.com ”
I am still searching for online courses for C++ (maybe even win32 related or open GL or game programming and design ).]
I am still searching for online courses but im not sure if the certificates will be good and improve my chances to get a job or not ?

And would you trust taking online courses and certificates ?

Jere answers:

It couldn’t hurt, necessarily… Just displaying to your prospective clients that you’ve taken tests in your field (and been shown to do well on them) is reassuring to some. Of course, just how seriously your clients take those results may vary. In the case of the W3Schools tests, for example, they suggest you pick your own supervisor to make sure you don’t cheat (seriously!) which is just as good as having no supervisor at all. In other words, there’s no real proof that the certificate you got from them is legitimate, since it’s so incredibly easy to cheat to get high marks.

On the other hand, actual certification tests in testing centers geared towards your field are going to be harder and cost a lot more, but the results will be basically undeniable.

Again — Couldn’t hurt, only help. Just not very much.

Helen asks…

Are there accredited online college courses that you can sign-up and start quickly?

I am one class shy of graduation with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. I have to take a Business Law course and have a little over two months to complete the course. Do you know of an accredited college that offers online courses, has a fast registration process, and would let me take one course at my own pace and be done with it?

Jere answers:

If you are a good test taker and if your college will accept it, there is a CLEP exam for Business Law. I didn’t find this one all that demanding and was able to pass by studying an inexpensive study guide and reading the web. Http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/ex_ibl.html

If that’s not an option, and only if your college allows you to take outside courses this far into your program (I’d get that in writing before you take a course) then Louisiana State University offers Business Law online (http://www.is.lsu.edu/courselist.asp?cat=Business+Law&nid=102&pg=) (they are AACSB) and their cost is very reasonable. They have rolling admissions to classes as opposed to the semester system so you can do it now. They require proctored exams and the courses are rigorous – this isn’t an easy way out but would meet the demands of most colleges.

Make certain that you can even do this at this late stage of your degree program before you attempt anything that costs time and money.

Mark asks…

Any ideas for an online business?

I am about to start an online business. Course Im going to plan first but Im lost about what I should sale. What do you think sales alot online???

~I’m interested in clothes but I want to do something a little more easier.
~I was thinking about making candles(I mean big beautiful candles for homes) but I have to learn how to make them first.
~Im also good for cooking

Have any ideas on what kind of site I can do and what to sale?

Jere answers:

There’s so many different things to sale on an online business. I actually have a really good friend who has her own home based business making soy candles that are just gorgeouse! Great income opportunity there. She sales them on line, in stores etc etc etc. If you’d like her information, feel free to email me and I’d be happy to pass her web site along for you to get some ideas. I’m sure she’d be happy to teach you how to make them. From what I’ve heard from her, they’re not that difficult to do at all. People love candles. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have a few.

Another thing you should take a look at is selling cell phones, and offer promo codes and services from all the major cellular providers as well as land line services, Internet, digital, VOIP, video phones, Satalite TV etc. I can send you information on how to get involve with these companies. For every service you put on either by web site or in person, the companies give you a percentage of everyone’s monthly bills. You can market them online as well. The market in this industry is world wide. So if you think about how many people have candles, and how many people have some sort of tv service or telephone service rather it’s a land line or not, and with companies keeping up on the technology changes, I think between these two things, it would be a huge amount of income if you think about how many people and all the possibilities you can have.

I’m going to forward this question to a few different people who have their own businesses and maybe some collaborations between different companies might be an option for you there.
If you’d like more information on things, feel free to email me.

Donna asks…

I want to create a Yahoo email online course for my business. How do I do this? How would I set it up?

I already have a shopping cart to charge people. How would I set up an online email course for my business?

Jere answers:

Do you mean to teach people who to use email? If so, I don’t see the market for it. Kind of like teaching kids to ride a bike, they get the info from parents or friends.

But I could be wrong!
