Your Questions About Business Online San Diego

Chris asks…

I live in San Diego and got a ticket in Utah, what are my options?

So ya I just got a ticket on labor day for speeding. I live in san diego and unsure about what to do with out-of-state tickets. The officer was cool to jot me down speeding over 5mph in residential/business zone. I obviously want to pay the fine, take traffic school, and get it off my record, but i’m not sure how the law is over in Utah. Do they offer online traffic school so I don’t have to drive all the way back to Utah, and will it fully be off the record, or just a reduced fine?

Jere answers:

I would call the District Attorneys office in the county where send the ticket to. Ask the DA if you can have it expunged, and be upfront with him and let him know you can not afford the higher insurance for the speeding ticket, They will usually work with you. They need the money, not the points, the points scale was not the state congress idea, but insurance lobbyist pushed the whole idea about points to keep their revenues high. The state of Utah is not worried about your points in California.

Sandra asks…

How can I file a complaint against a 24-Hour business that has extremely noisy customers overnight?

I live directly on the other side of the block of a 24-Hour Mexican Restaurant. And I can safely say that at least half of my nights living here have been with interrupted sleep multiple times the same night. I’ve been here 11 months and have been quietly puttin up with this since day 1. Now my major problem is that i have a newborn girl who keeps getting startled awake by their noisy customers. Moving is not an option because I live with other people and I ended up with the room closest to the noise.

They are approx. 30ft from my window. Being a 24 hour restaurant, they attract a lot of trash.
Trash that shows up after all the Bars Cut Off drinks. (2am especially Fridays and Saturdays)
Trash that honks their horn at 4 am.
Drunk ppl who are always shouting and screaming in the parking lot and even some who have their car stereo and subwoofer blasting Banda music the whole time they’re in the drive thru ( and the food service is slow to make things worse)
One drunken genius even crashed into the steel dumpster in the quiet of the night (which made everyone jump awake thinking something exploded), hit the curb in the parking lot and half drove off the sidewalk into the street. 3 very loud startling noises by the same person.

Who can i complain to? I want to start filing a complaint for everytime they make unbearable noise. I can’t call 911 cuz it’s not an emergency. This restaurant is trash so the BBB wont matter. Any easy options? like an online one?

~San Diego California

Jere answers:

Find out about the noise ordinance in your city. It will tell you what time people need to be quiet. But honestly speaking, the restaurant has been there longer than you have, the locals seem to know that’s the place to go if you’re drunk and hungry…I’d say move. Save a chunk of money and get out. Find a quiet place.

Is Real Estate Appraisal a good career to get into right now?

I looking to become a Certified Residential Appraiser, given the economic times is right now a good time to get into the business? If so do you recommend any schools either online or in the San Diego region.

Jere answers:

Before you can become a Certified Residential Appraiser you will need an associate degree. As a trainee you will make less than minimum wage for 2-3 years. The when you get your license, you will have a hard time finding work, due to most AMC want at least 3 years of licensed experience. Since the HVVC came into effect, lenders are not allowed to order an appraisal from the appraiser. They all are using Appraisal Management companies, that take 30-60 percent of the fee. So what we use to get paid for a standard 1004 around $400-$500 per report, we now get $200-300 per report. Then you have your software fees around 100 per month, E&O insurance around $700 per year, car insurance, fuel, computer and office supplies, the list go on and on. Also lender will not let a trainee inspect any property or sign any report. It is really hard to find a mentor to teach you so you can get your license. If you don’t get certified and only get licensed the you can’t even get on the FHA roster and most AMC’s want certified appraisers and some states do not even have licensed. See below for what it takes to become certified in WA. Good luck

Experience
Before you may take the examination, you must:

find a certified appraiser willing to supervise your work experience as a trainee.
Work under the supervisory appraiser to get a minimum of 2 years’ real estate appraiser experience (24 months and 2,500 hours). Hours may be treated as cumulative in order to achieve the necessary hours of appraisal experience.
Education
To be eligible to take the examination, you must successfully complete:

an associate degree or higher in any field or 21 semester hours in specific subject matter courses, including:
English composition
Principles of economics (micro or macro)
Finance
Algebra, geometry, or higher mathematics
Statistics
Introduction to computers: Word processing/spreadsheets
Business or real estate law
AND a total of 200 classroom hours of approved real estate appraisal courses, including all of the following:
Subject Hours required

Thomas asks…

do I have any chance to get into San diego state or Cal poly SLO?

okay let me break some stuff down, btw I live in California and my school has the IB program

My freshmen year, first semester I had all regular classes, but then second semester I transferred into english honors and into world civilizations Honors pre IB. MY sophomore year was disastrous since a lot of my time was spent helping my parents out at their farm, also I was involved in a abusive relationship and I ended up failing or do awful in a lot of my classes. Since I failed both semesters of Geometry H, I had to take integrated math 2 my junior year, but I plan on taking alg 2 online over the summer since I don’t have time to go to CC because of my involvement at my parent’s business. I plan on taking IB H english all four years and receiving an IB certificate in that, but that’s about it. I’ve had 3 years of foreign language. Two years of non honors lab science and hopefully 3 years of math, only one that was honors I completely bombed. However I plan on making up all the classes I got an F or D in online over the summer, but if I end highschool with a 3.0 gpa and an 1850+ on the SAT with the IB certificate, is there any shot I can still get into SDSU or Cal poly SLO for the fall semester in 2012. I don’t live near either area either.
also for extracurriculars
I have been helping my parents out at their business for six years
I actively volunteer at my local library every week and during the summer for the special events
On my spare time I teach my parent’s friends/relatives from thailand or laos english
and I plan on joining key club my senior year

also I will be applying as a psychology major for each

Jere answers:

I am sorry, but the GPA is too low for the schools you mentioned. I highly suggest my alma mater, Sonoma State, which has a very strong psychology department.

You must have three years of math classes, which qualify for the CSU admission requirements, with grades that are acceptable to CSUs or you will not meet the minimum math requirement for admission and admission will be denied if the minimum math requirement is not met. You appear to need to make up the geometry classes. Make sure that taking them on line will count for high school graduation and CSU admission. They should be taken at a regionally accredited school, which includes all public high schools and community colleges in California. They should not be taken at a school that has only national accreditation, which actually is a lower level than regional accreditation.

You do not need any IB classes for a CSU and your efforts should be devoted to raising your GPA, not to taking IB classes. A student should never take an IB or honors class unless the student strongly expects to be able to earn an A in it. It is much better to receive an A in a regular class than a B in an AP or honors class, as the B indicates that the class was too difficult for the student.

Best wishes.

Jere answers:

Yes, probably a 3.0 GPA, 1850+ SAT, and a full IB diploma, with get you into San Diego State.
