Your Questions About Business Online Services Gov

Maria asks…

Self-employed – Do I have to file federal taxes?

I just started a computer repair business (Federal EIN given on 2/17/2011). I do business in only one county in NYS (Schenectady County), where sales tax is 8%. I just went online to www.tax.ny.gov and paid the 8% of my sales/service income. Apparently the form is called ST-100 and can only be filled out online.

Now I want to be sure to take care of the federal tax requirements (IRS).

To start up the business, I invested in advertising on 3/17/2011 which exceeded my income for the NYS filing period of 3/1/2011 – 5/31/2011. Do I need to fill out the estimated tax (1040-ES) form with the IRS considering I had a net loss? I expect to spend more on advertising and post another net loss next quarter.

FYI, I already visited http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=115045,00.html and it was somewhat confusing.

Jere answers:

You should fill out a 1040-ES each quarter to see where you stand with federal taxes. If you don’t actually owe any payment according to the 1040-ES, then there’s no need to send it to the IRS. You don’t have to send estimated payments if your estimated net profit is $0. Just be aware that you can be penalized if you end up with a tax bill and you never sent any estimated payments, so make sure you double check your calculations on the 1040-ES before you decide not to send anything for that particular quarter.

Carol asks…

Should illegal aliens get disaster relief, FEMA etc….?

Why should illegal aliens who should not be here receive any type of disaster relief?
Isn’t it true that if they were not here, they would not have been in Hurricane Irene?
Why is it every time we turn around illegals are benefiting from services meant for American citizens?
Your opinion?

Sandra asks…

As a restaurant/hotel manager, do I have to give Sundays off to Christians?

I am a manager who works in a Hotel witch contains a restaurant. One of our employees has recently brought us a letter from their church pastor saying we have to give them Sunday’s off and it’s our legal responsibility to.

I have looked online and noticed that my type of business is “exempt” from these types of rules, but I would like to get the opinion of someone who is familiar with the Canadian regulations regarding this.

This person was informed when they were hired that they would be required to work Sundays, since this we have told them they would be able to have 1 Sunday off/month and they generally only work evenings, giving them a chance to attend their services in the mornings.

Jere answers:

No, you don’t. Unless there is a bona fide religious holiday, they cannot force you to let them off for ordinary Sunday services.

Thomas asks…

How can obama change anything when he cant even give strait forward answers?

A few days back I sent Obama an email not only making a statement but also asking a question. He talks about his plan to make more jobs for Americans. My question to him is how does he plan to do that when 99% of jobs require a GED or high school diploma. Here in Georgia it costs 99$ to take the GED test and 25$ for every test that has to be retaken. So if you cant get a job without a GED or high school diploma then how is someone like myself suppose to pay to take the GED test so I am able to get a job. I thought education was suppose to be free. I was a teenage mother, I had to quit school because the school I was going to didnt think I should be around other students that they thought weren’t having sex. This is the email that I got back:

Dear Friend:

Thank you for writing to me. I appreciate hearing
from you and value your input.

Each day, I am moved by the messages I receive
from people across the country. Far too many Americans
are struggling–falling behind on mortgage payments,
coping with illness, or losing a job without warning. My
Administration is working to address the serious challenges
our Nation faces. I am committed to taking immediate
steps that generate job creation and economic recovery, and
I am determined to make investments that lay a new
foundation for real and lasting progress.

To build this new foundation, we need health care
reform–this year–that reduces costs, protects health care
choices, and assures quality, affordable care for all
Americans. I encourage you to visit
www.HealthReform.gov to learn more about my
commitment to enacting comprehensive health care reform
in 2009.

I am also dedicated to building a clean energy
economy that creates millions of jobs, helps us achieve
energy independence, and reduces pollution as we tackle
the effects of global warming. Please visit
www.Recovery.gov to read about the more than $60 billion
in clean energy investments my Administration has made to
jump-start our economy and build the jobs of tomorrow.

To prepare our children to thrive in the global
economy, we must guarantee every child a complete and
competitive education. For information about my
education reform agenda, please join me online at:
www.whitehouse.gov/agenda/education.

At the same time, we have an obligation to rein in
our budget deficit by cutting wasteful spending and
ineffective programs. We can do all this, and change the
way business is done in Washington, by building the most
open, transparent, and accountable government in our
history.

While we repair our communities, we must also
recognize the important contributions of our service men
and women in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other nations. Our
military and their families have borne an enormous burden
for their fellow citizens, serving with honor and succeeding
beyond any expectation. For those who have been injured
or lost their lives in pursuit of our freedom, we owe them
our undying gratitude. I am committed to assisting our
servicemembers, veterans, and their families and honoring
our debts to them.

Information on jobs, health benefits, housing
assistance, and other public resources for those in need can
be found by calling 1-(800)-FEDINFO or by visiting:
www.usa.gov.

The only way to solve the problems of our time is to
involve all Americans in shaping the policies that affect our
lives. I hope you continue to explore
www.WhiteHouse.gov, which is regularly updated and
more interactive than ever before. Thank you again for
writing.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

How does he plan to make the “no child left behind” law better if he isnt helping parents get a education so that parents can help teach there children. I was not given my free education and I am still not getting it.
HELP PARENTS GET AN EDUCATION SO THEY CAN HELP TEACHERS TEACH THERE CHILDREN AND NO CHILD WILL BE LEFT BEHIND!!

He cant even give straight forward answers doesn’t even begin to answer what makes every American think that he is giving straight forward answers to other things, He is to worried about his agenda.

Jere answers:

The only thing he is good for is preparing the nation for the take-over by the Anti-Christ & total destruction.

George asks…

Draft registration question?

Okay, so I am a freshman student at UC Davis, and I have just recently turned 18 years old. I went online to register for the draft at sss.gov, and once I completed the form, it said that I had already submitted a registration form six days prior to my 18th birthday. I had not done so, however, and it is not possible for me since I wasn’t 18 at the time.
Is this an error on part of the Selective Service? Or can someone explain this dilemma; I plan on calling the SSS during business hours.

You’re college paperwork might have been the ticket they needed… Did you fill out any financial aid?
