Your Questions About Business Online Services Group

William asks…

What is a good/catchy tag line for our buy and sell online business?

I’m a college super senior taking up IT and one of our major subjects is Technopreneurship. We’re required to set up an eBusiness. My group decided to set up an online buy and sell business. We’re planning to set up a website where students from our university alone, can advertise their products or services on our website. The name of our business is “Know it”. We thought of that name because students from our university can use our website to KNOW about the items that other fellow students are advertising on our website. And once they know about these items, they might want to buy them. What would be a good/catchy tag line for our “Know it” business? Thank You in advance for your ideas!

Jere answers:

“Now that it is known, do you want to own?”

What are my chances of setting up a successful business and dropping out of college?

I’ve taken business in college, i’m no slacker, i work hard in college and i was so determined to do my best, however i did start late after i changed courses 5 weeks into the term and now i’m struggling to catch up and understand the new tasks being set as well as doing the old tasks, i’m even taking catch up days.

But anyway, my idea is that i do the next two days of college and then hit half term break, in half term, i am so determined to come up with a retail business plan, create surveys and send the surveys out by handing them out in super-markets, shopping centers and so on. Now my way of collecting the surveys will either be getting the clients to do the survey on site at their own will, or by asking them to post it with a 3rd class sticker in the envelope, or asking them questions and noting them down – either way that’s not too relevant.

Then with those retail service questions answered, i truly want to come up with my own market with plans put into action of providing good loyal service, i will also create my website and deliver my service on online trading sites starting with Ebay.

Eventually i wish to take my retail service into publishing, all kinds of articles for different age groups, on all kinds of subjects. I want my own agony aunts for live discussions online, books published and so on.

If i drop out of college, please be honest, what are the chances of becoming even mildly successful, and does dropping out hinder my chances of becoming an entrepreneur?

Will staying in college make me overall more successful in my own business?
I sure as hell don’t want to stay employed for the rest of my life, i’ll give up alot to be self employed and hard working.

Jere answers:

I’ve been an entrepreneur all my life and have enjoyed myself and I barely graduated high school. Bill Gates and many other famous people didn’t go to or finish college. Some of my school pals didn’t go to college and became millionaires as I will be soon. It takes a sharp and dedicated person to make it, only 10% make it to the second year. You need to have a plan on paper and devote yourself to following the plan, never wavering in your decisions. You sound like you might make it, just work real smart, reflecting every day on how you’re doing. Read, read and read some more on business and personal development. Work on your plan while finishing school just in case you need the diploma in the future to get a job, never know, better to have a back up plan. Best of luck to you.

Hi Amanda. Good question. There are so many promotional tools online and offline that sometimes it gets confusing. I will give you few resources and strategies that will surely help your friend.
1. Set up a table in a local mall or trade show where you can display your products.
2. Talk to friends and family that the products can benefit. Yep they still work but just don’t spend too much time trying to convince them.
3. Go to network marketing events where you can learn from the experts and take note for each speaker.

Lisa asks…

Where do you even begin to start your own business?

I’m only 17, but my dream way in the future is to some day open a hair salon. I think it would be a neat environment to create. With the economy and all I know it’s tough to start your own business & keep it going, but it’s nice to think about.

How do you even start though?

Jere answers:

In the garage.

Well, first you think of your idea, then since we live in the modern world, you create a website and perhaps even a blog, then learn about internet marketing and once that is set up, think how do you want to offer your service and to what group of people and then just start advertising it online or spread the word on town.

Starting your own business is piece of cake, remaining successful is almost impossible without going to ruin everything for the first couple of times.

However, if you were ever serious about doing business you would have already realised you could’ve Googled this and find hundreds of answers, you should read books. Without education business doesn’t exist. There is no point asking here. Any true business people don’t waste their time on answering questions on Yahoo! Answers, they’re too busy creating their own site.
