I am pretty sure it is. I did some quick research on “Etan Group” and found nothing worthwhile but this question . Not to mention, a “large company” like they describe would have a more professional e-mail address; they wouldn’t be using free Gmail.

I just got a very similar e-mail, but mine gloats about how “well known” their company is in the USA. If this were true, Google would have quite a bit of information, perhaps even a company website!

The only website that had the possibility of being the company site was www.etangroup.com, but it’s not a financial services provider, it is a Chinese antique furniture dealer, according to the description.

So, I am inclined to believe this is just another shameful scam to lure in people who are desperate for a job. No doubt they would ask you to open a bank account in your own name for them to transfer funds through, or something shady like that. Also, any company that promises huge salaries for almost no work is one of those too-good-to-be-true kinds of things.

BTW, I just Googled “Jack Berkindoff”, and this question is the only result I got. If he were really part of the “HR Department’, no doubt he would have loads of listings all over the place for job postings. I can’t believe these idiots choose such unique names for their shills….

To summarize:
No information on the Internet about the company,
Cheesy free e-mail address which attempts to look professional,
No company website; despite being a “large company”,
Promise of huge salary for almost no work.

Most likely a total scam. Avoid it like the plague!

You can report suspected fraud to: TSST@careerbuilder.com.

Good luck on your job search!

This is one of those so called scams that you were roped into. I receive these type of ads all the time into my email box, and they are placed immediately into my trash can. Number one, you cannot be paid 2.3k a month, that is unhumanly impossible, and you wold be one of the richest people on earth if you got that. ALso, when they give you a percentage of every money transferred, this is a typical scam! DO NOT give them any personal information. This is a way of identify fraud! Do NOT fall for it!!!

David asks…

Where’s the best place online to recruit models for a photo shoot?

I have a part-time photography business and am desperately looking for female models (preferrably with no experience) to do a photoshoot. One model agency recrimended ModelMayhem, Musecube and some other one. The models at Modelmayhem tend to want paid services rather then trades of service. Then Musecube is free for models to join but $10.00 for non-models such as photographers. The third one is free with very limited features which doesn’t include the ability to do casting calls. They have that with their pro account which is out of my budget. I tried the Craigs and backpage with no luck. I also tried Kijiji and did have a couple of shoots but many models inquired about the ad and never got back to me to do the photoshoot. I also tried New Faces and they’re free as long as I’m willing to pay casting credits. I’m sick of this online advertising nonsense and online groups that have many rule, would it be better for me to advertise in the local paper…continued to part 2

Jere answers:

Okay,

A lot of photographers, models, actors, makeup artists and stylists network with each other using two primary Internet sites:

* One Model Place
* Model Mayhem

That said, you will have to do two things …

* Become a presence on those sites and show off your best work.
* Offer TFP sessions for selected models and link to their member pages from the images you have of them from your shoots.

Sandra asks…

Online Survey’s for Money?

I am a first year college student, and i just received an email addressed to my campus email account. It stated that i can make money by filling out surveys. Is this a legitimate source of income available to a college student? Would i be at risk if i decided to try out this program? Is it a scam of some sort?
I will also post a copy of the email along with my question.
Thanks!

Jere answers:

Sounds like one I joined and while they didn’t outright rip you off, they were constantly wanting you to sign up for all this expensive stuff and if you didn’t then you never got to the survey part and never got to make any money. So, yeah, I guess it is a scam, because you don’t really do the surveys for free and I never made any money from it because I wouldn’t sign up for all their expensive stuff.
Sorry.

Paul asks…

Has anyone heard of PAQ Technologies LTD or Home Alliance Recruiting Group? Are they legit?

I sent them a resume for a job listed on Craig’s List and got this reply that sounds like jiberish:
“We have reviewed your resume and we are satisfied with your credentials. Let me start by introducing myself and the Company to you, I am JOHNSON EDWARD the Personnel’s Manager of the firm PAQ TECHNOLOGIES LTD.

Which is a new Innovation of the Home Alliance Recruiting Group. We posted our job add as a result of trying to get an online account staff/representative.
( HOME BUSINESS NETWORK – WORK FROM HOME INITIATIVE )
For $18 Per Hr. ( location not required ) PAQ TECHNOLOGIES LTD.. is a ARIZONA baby firm which is just getting to a year old, seeking assistance with the work from home initiative to assist with clerical and administrative duties online pending the establishment of our New Outlets in Ontario,Canada, New York,Iowa and Chester, United States.

We are into Computer Peripherals Supplies. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of independent dialysis providers around the world by leveraging today’s most innovative technologies to deliver a full spectrum of high-quality services to the business community.”
I have a feeling there is something wrong with this offer.

Jere answers:

I too received this exact email from a ad posted on Craigslist (Eastern Connecticut). I hadn’t noticed until you pointed it out that it was not sent by Johnson Edward. After reading this response and reading the second response that Heather posted, I do believe that this is a scam.

Neither of the letters were written well, and were filled with a lot of gibberish. Also it looks as though they are going to deduct $600 for the privilege of accepting this job from your pay.

I also looked up this company on the internet and couldn’t find anything about them anywhere.

I am going to see if this is still posted on Craigslist and flag it as spam.

I have resorted to not sending my resume when responding to job ads, but a quick note stating that I am interested and if it is indeed a real position please contact me and I will send along a copy of my resume. Too many people out there getting too much personal information from unknowing job hunters
