Your Questions About Direct Marketing Jobs

Donald asks…

Intense Marketing??? Impala Direct?

I applied for jobs on “jobs.ie” and these two companies are the ones that rang me back the next day. I have an interview with Impala Direct tomorrow but dont think I’ll go because i heard its a door to door selling company and purely comminsion based but I want to go purely out of curiousity. Does anybody have any factual information at all about these companys??? My interview for Intense Marketing is for next week and Im not sure what to do. I rang Impala direct back and asked was it commision based and was it door to door sales and I also told her that I read bas reviewsrds on boards.ie and she did not say anything herself but said that she would get someone to ring me back. Doubt I am going to but if I do I’ll let everyone know what they say.
The girl that rang from intense marketing seemed genuine and when I asked her was it commission based and door to door she said that it depends on what job we think you are suitable for and that they are recruitng for people for their sales team and something else but I cant remember what she said.
I know this description is long and probably confussing the way I’ve expalained it but if anyone could help at all and tell me about these companys it would be great. I think I should go just to investigate what they’re like but if anyone has already done this it would save me time and effort. Thanks. šŸ˜€

Avoid both of them, I wouldn’t give them the time of day!

Do you really want a career based on lies and deception?

Steven asks…

how come no one wants to help me!?

I’m a 20 year old business major who recently started looking for jobs on some career websites! I found there are lots of direct marketing jobs that offer things like paid training, and opportunities for advancement, but i need to know if they are legitimate businesses, I have checked out the website, but anyone can make a good website these days, no its not an MLM as far as I can see right now, and they are not asking for any money from me! but I want to know if it is truly a money making opportunity and a way to get a foot in the door of sales and marketing, so let me know your experiences!
so you know some of the companies I’ve interviewed with are new direction promotions, scanno advertising, o.c. marketing and tld and associates, let me know especially if you have worked with any of these they are located in cali, they all seem to do the same type of thing
i did do research… but i thought the point of this site was to knowledge from others

William asks…

Marketing, how can I figure out how money I have made my customers as a direct result of me working with them?

O.K. Say I land a job as a counsultant(marketing). I help out the business..NOW..HERE’S MY QUESTION…How can I figure out how much money I have made the company as a direct resultof me working with them… If I can’t tell them what I did for them..why would anyone else want to hire me if I have no facticial evidence saying look, I made this company’s profits increase by 7%, I can do the same for you..HOW DO i DETERMINE THAT????????????????

Jere answers:

Determining how much money you have earned a company is a function of the sales you generated, the price of those sales, the cost of the service or goods, overheads applied and many other items making it very difficult to determine exactly how much was due to your influence.

I would recommend focusing simply on the increase of sales volume. For example, if a companies Internet sale were growing at 10% a year and you were involved in their Internet marketing efforts and it increased 20% then you could claim to have double their internet sales. If instead you are working with particular product lines or particular customers then you will be able to again track increases in sales volume for those products or customers.

John asks…

Should I be modeling more then 2 jobs a month with Direct Connect 123?

I went to an open call in October of 2009 and decided that I truly wanted to become a model. This company said that if they liked our look and we seemed responsible they would pay for our photo shoot and get us marketed. Well I made it and have been working an average of 2 modeling gigs a month. I am only making $2,000 a month from jobs they hooked me up with. Should I be working more? Thanks folks

Jere answers:

Two jobs a month and $2000 is a LOT. The average working model in the US only makes $15,000 a year and gets booked on 5 jobs in a full year, so you are way above average. Even if you were with a top NY agency, you might only get 1-2 jobs a month. Only the few supermodels work more than that. I worked for a top NY agency and only about 5-10 girls on our books made enough money modeling to support themselves. The others all either had night jobs or rich parents/boyfriends who supported them. So you are very lucky if you are getting 2 jobs and $2000 a month as a New Face.

If you were with Elite or Ford as a New Face, your first 6 months would be mostly unpaid or low paid work. For example, I booked 2 Ford New Faces for a PR event in LA recently and they were each paid $250 for the day.
