Is the US economic crisis a direct result of no longer being self-sufficient?

Have the corporations created their own demise by not looking to the U.S. market to supply their workers and create products for our own nation?

China is feeling the economic crisis at this point and is looking at ways to become self-sufficient rather than relying upon exports for their economic survival.

Should the USA be doing the same thing? Wouldn’t our nation be better off becoming self reliant rather than depending on imports and cheap labor from other nations for our goods?

Can we regain a stable economic environment by choosing to buy products made in the USA rather than the cheaper brand? Would paying a little more at the store now save us from a Depression by bringing jobs back to American soil and putting people back to work who have lost their jobs to foreign nations?
