Your Questions About Doing Business Online China

Mandy asks…

Does an entrepreneur has to be passionate to his industry?

I’m going to graduate in next May and take over my fahter’s small business, an online retail company sells high technology healthcare device. I like to study finance and analyze cash flow; my bus’econ gpa is slightly above 3.6. If I take over my father’s business, I will make double than finding a high paid job as a college graduated. The problem is I’m not interesting in analyzing healthcare industry. I heard entrepreneurs have to be passionate about thier industries, either it’s food, music, sport, etc. I have none passion of them. Unlike my dad, I never went to medical school. I like business, including its various functions, communication, planning, research and development, and networking skills. I just have no interest in studying one specific culture. What should i do? I’m also bilingual, Mandarin and English. Since you all heared about China‘s economy development and advanced business environment, so speaking Chinese fluently may help me with my career in a long term. In addition, when I posted this question earlier, people misunderstand me as a Chinese citizen, but I’m a citizen in this country. Thank you for reading.

Jere answers:

Yes, an entrepreneur does what he/she loves and makes a living off of it. They never work a day in their lives because they love every second of it.

Jere answers:

I heavily recommend speaking with your father about your decision, and perhaps speaking with one of his business associates that would be qualified to answer the question at hand.

Jere answers:

It sounds like you really do not want to take over your father’s business. There are so many jobs available for business graduates, and I have no doubt you will be able to find one. My advice would be to apply and try to secure a job for when you graduate. If you are unable to find a job, your dad’s business is a good back up, but I would at least try to get a job that you would like better before taking over your dad’s business.

Hi,

I heard of the Canton Fair in China. I heard it was really big and lots of factory venders ready to do business. What I’m not sure of is if there will be electronic accessories there because after reading on their website it didn’t show categories of what I’m looking for. if anyone could give me a go to fair to go to for my needs or if the canton fair is right for me please help me confirm this.

Susan asks…

What business license I need to do resale online?

Hello,
I am currently trying start an online business with my own website in New Jersey as a side job. I will be selling various types of home goods that I buy(around 10 quantities per item to start off) from overseas such as China. My business will be located in my home personally, as shipping will be as well. I was curious what type of business license I need in order to do a resale business here in NJ? I heard LLC maybe a good idea? Any information will truly be helpful! Thank you.
Would this make me get license as a Sole Proprietorship, LLC..?

Jere answers:

You don’t need a license, but you need a business entity, so you can report (and pay) taxes.
An Inc or an LLC is best, because these are legal entities, that can go bankrupt, without you personally going bankrupt as well.
