Your Questions About Doing Business Online China

Steven asks…
How does a small business trip to china work?
where is the best jeans wholesale market in China?
Hi everyone i’m planning my first trip to china to buy jeans from wholesalers and also connect with a reliable wholesaler so that i will not have to fly the next time i want to place an order. Does anyone know how such thing works from negotiating in china to money transfer from the US? whats the best destination for a non Chinese speaking person and the cheapest markets and factories for a small buyer like me stepping in with about 20K only. I have done some research online and it looks like Guangzhou may be a good place to start what do you think? I don’t like dealing with people i know only on the internet so an online order is not an option i would consider therefore i would love to have your advice about me flying there. Thanks for reading…:) 🙂 :), oh i was going to forget i’m from New York.

Jere answers:
Guangzhou is the best choice for clothes wholesale dealers, which has more than 20 wholesale markets and you can find any kind of clothes. The biggest and famousest one, Baima market is near GuangzhouTrain station. Better if you can speak Chinese to find good quality goods with good price in these markets, because most of people in these markets can’t speak English, and their major customers are domestic retailers or direct customers. 20K is very enough for your traveling and a batch of clothes. As for payment, you can choose wire transfer or west union for consideration of future. If you will purchase this time, you can pay cash, but you also need to prepare shipping at same time. You can also try to contact some factories online in future. You can try these websites www.alibaba.com, www.made-in-china, www.globalsource.com. By the way, I am not advertising. I just know these websites are famous for international trade. I do have knowledges about export, if you have some questions, i will try my best to answer you.
As for flying, you can choose flying to Guangzhou directly, or flying to HongKong where more flights from US go to. You can stay 7 days for free in HongKong by tickets to HongKong. Then you can go to Shenzhen border and take high speed train to Guangzhou.

What is the effect of communism in Chinese people’s lives and how is it so great for them,?
I’m not a traveler, but like i’ve heard that traveling to cuba is hard , north korea too… But then why can chinese people travel and do business with foreigners, and apparently also foreigners go to china.
Ok my second point is, i’ve talked to many chinese online, and they have said that their life is great and that communism is like their religion. this is from nice/everyday chinese universitty students. if it’s so great, then why do many countries see communism as bad, and why don’t we americans become communists? is communisms better for some chinese than for others, and could it be these Chinese who go to universities have a very different perspective on it then working people in the lowe r class?

Jere answers:
Do not pay attention to the answers given by the first two…they are ignorant and blindly nationalistic. As a Chinese who has lived in America for about 15 years, I have been exposed to large amounts of both cultures. American press is among one of the most opinionated types I have ever seen (the tendency is to omit information that gives face to other countries and only promote America). China nowadays is basically a capitalistic state; the communistic ceremonies are merely for the sake of show. People can criticize China for being too arrogant in accepting the fact that Capitalism works better for their society. Since China is such a large mass of land, there is a huge spectrum in the lifestyles of the populace. In Hong Kong, for example, the citizenry live in a very technology-influenced society (similar to that of Tokyo in Japan). If one were to travel inland, however, one would see that a poorer class of people would spring up more often. In short, there is no way to give a definitive answer to how people are being affected by Communism, even though such a system is practically dead.

Donald asks…
How can I find reliable laptop & computer suppliers in China?
I am considering to start an online business importing products (computers, laptops, accessories etc) from China and selling online through website. Your suggestions are welcome.

Jere answers:
Advice: Unless you are prepared to fly to Beijing, Shanghai or any other big city in China to meet with your supplier and deal direct with the manufacturer, there is no such supplier that exists.
They do business much differently in China. I suggest you book yourself a ticket and just plop yourself down into an industrial park area to look around.
Find a US distributor of something you like (a product) and ask for some contact help.
Just going there is my best advice – and you will enjoy yourself. It’s an amazing place.
