How do you start an affiliate program for your online business?
I’m venturing out on a small business idea online. I would like to give vendors the ability to resell my product or act as a distributor. I don’t know anything about this. How do you go about setting up an affiliate program? Any requirements? Any pros and cons?
Jere answers:
The pros are that you will have others helping you sell your products and then you normally only pay them once they have sold the item so you can’t really loose out on that part of it.
The cons are that there is quite alot of work involved and you have to advertising your affiliate program just like a site to get affiliates interested in signing up. It’s not an easy task running an affiliate program, but you can let 3rd party networks take most of your workload of you by paying them a little extra so that they can practically run it and help get affiliates for you.

The ShareASale listing in that link that I have just given you is a very good network that will help you get affiliates and will manage most of the affiliate program for you. You are also able to set up datafeeds, allow lifetime commissions, pay per sale, click, lead, etc.
That is a very good and reputable network. I’m an affiliate over there, but there has also been a lot of good stuff that their merchants have said to.

Are my online business ideas good?
I recently purchased a book called Internet riches, so I wanted to start an online company. It was telling me to create a website full of content, and throw some ads and affiliate products on the site to make money. Ive heard from other people that this is the best way to go. I decided I would create a website on cell phone reviews and specs since I love cell phones. I would join verizon, AT&T, sprint affiliate programs and sell their phones on my site. I know I would be competiting eith cnet, mobiledia, phone dog, etc., but if each site is doing well, there is another room for a player. But when I was reading entrepreneur magazine, they featured many online companies that have websites where users could interact on. That got me thinking. There is a huge demand for profitable websites, but there is no key website that let’s people buy,sell,trade, and auction websites. I could fill this gap. The problem is, I have no coding knowledge, and I got quoted 50k from a web developer. Should I just do the cell phone site? Should I’d make money with the cell phone site and put it towards the website trading site? Please help me. Also, could the cell phone site eventually make me six or more figures a year?

I think you’re headed down the right path, in a general way. I’ve spent some time going through the same steps.
People do make money with sites like you describe. The key is, you MUST give people a reason to visit and more importantly, a reason to return. That means content.
You’ve realized that you have a couple of options. Your first, cell phone reviews, has some merit. And as you point out, you’ll be competing with c/net, (that’s where I go). You will need to supply some type of content that somehow exceeds theirs.
The second idea, auctions, isn’t bad, but you are competing with the big boy, ebay.
So how this for an idea. You can have some reviews, (they MUST be good if you want creditability) then go to ebay and set up an ebay store? Let them handle the auction for a cut.
Down the road, if it pans out, you can set up your own site.

Are these profitable online business ideas?
I want to make six or more figures a year. My first online business idea was to buy wholesale office chairs or teen clothing, and resell them for profit on my site. I then realized that this could not make me that much. What do you think? My next idea is to make a content filled website on a topic I enjoy. The website will be monetized by ads, adsense, and affiliate products. I think this site could bring in nice profits (if i work on marketing)!
My last and newest idea is a great idea (or so I think). It is a website where visitors can become members for free. Members can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other members. This website would cost a lot to make so I am not sure if i should even attempt it? I think it could bring lots of visitors (with proper marketing). I would make money from ads on the site, and possibly a suplementary ecourse on songwriting that I charge a monthly fee on. Do you think this online business idea could be profitable? Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?
I really like the music and content site, but what are your thoughts?
If not, what online business should I do to make six or more figures a year (no mlm please)?
