Your Questions About Doing Business Online Malaysia

Betty asks…
I’m a Malaysian & desperately in need of a PAYPAL account. What do i do?
I need to set up an internet business fast & i dont have a credit card. I heard Paypal’s a great way to wiring all online transaction. But here in MALAYSIA i dont have a clue how or where to start. How do i register with a Paypal account?
Why is it that i heard its NOT POSSIBLE to withdraw funds from Paypal here in Malaysia? What am i supposed to do?

Jere answers:
You could try to use a debit card issued by credit card companies in partnership with local banks to open a Paypal account. I am not 100% sure of this but you can try it out.
If you have family members, relatives or friends with credit cards, you can ask to use it for 1 time only. You do not actually need a credit card to make payments because you can send money orders to Paypal to top-up your account. The credit card is more to verify your identity.
You can register a Paypal account in Malaysia to send and receive money but you can’t withdraw money in your Paypal account into a local bank account. Your money is stuck online and you can either send to someone else or use it to make online payments.
Make a trip to Singapore and open a bank account there. There are no restrictions on Malaysians opening bank accounts in Singapore. The great news is that Paypal allows money to be withdrawn into Singapore bank accounts.
Singapore banks have online banking services and you can transfer money from your Singapore bank account to Malaysia. Of course, you will incur funds transfer fees but at least now you can withdraw money from your Paypal account.

Susan asks…
Does technology invade peoples privacy?
Well we know the possibility is out there, but is it really worth the risk? Does the technology we have that makes us capable to do our banking online, talk to someone in Malaysia, and open business opportunities in Japan, worth having our personal lives, information and other things at risk? Does our security and firewalls actually protect us from identity theft and all those other things out there??
uhm… this is just a debate topic. I’m just showing both sides of the story, so… please don’t bite my head off lol. I’m also talking about things that are more sketchy, like banking or online dating or something like that. I’m just trying to hear both sides of the story k?

Jere answers:
What technology takes away different technology can retrieve. It’s a back and forth game and you just need to be on top of it if you want to maintain your privacy. If not, then yes, your privacy is lost.

Daniel asks…
What is the tax levied on online purchase from USA to MEXICO?
Hi,
Normally I’d avoid buying overseas because I’d have to import them into Malaysia where I live. Apart from the exhorbitant shipping, the tax levied by Malaysian customs is usually a bomb.
I am now in Mexico on a business trip, and seeing it’s only across the border from the States I am thinking of buying a particular pair of shoes on eBay. The item is about USD 60 and ships via FedEx to Mexico for about USD 35.
Question – what is the tax that will be levied by Mexican customs for this purchase? Does anyone know?
Thanks

Jere answers:
There is a monthly exemption (used to be $50) after that they would charge value added tax of 10% or 15% depending on where you were.

Robert asks…
Is it illegal not to take girls seriously on dating sites?
I had a couple of colleagues who told me about 2 years ago to do what they do. What they use to do is go on different dating websites and talk to girls and when the girls seem trustworthy to them they trade or do business transactions online. Usually the girls give them money or at sometimes homosexuals give them money and my colleagues invest it then return them the money back with interest. I have no idea how the hell they do that, to convince a stranger into letting them borrow money. They never use their personal information. I told this to a friend and told me this is illegal and i can be in serious trouble for not telling this to the authoritys. But how can i rat them out if i don’t even know where those guys live now, they all move. And what if they are dangerous people? but i will tell you what girls locations in the world they like targeting.
They have done it with 119 girls all over the world this is the list.

Jere answers:
You should tell the police this is not right and you know it. A girls life could be taken away. Also you don’t know how they do it? They could be stealing information and threatening thease poor girls into giving their money. If I were you I would take action now before someone gets hurt. Real friends don’t do this bro it ain’t right.
