Your Questions About Email Marketing Reviews

Ken asks…
World Poetry Movement In Question – Legit or Just Another Clever Marketing Scam?
Wow – I am a semi-finalist! My poem was entered into a contest and I could gain critical acclaim. I can pay to have my poem published. And I can pay to come to a convention and mingle with other poets and just throw my money away – right into the hands of World Poetry Movement.
Yes, I am a little cynical about WPM. The online reviews for World Poetry Movement are quite unfavorable. Looks like they don’t use a legitimate publisher. The book is not offered in real bookstores, only online (you can sell anything online). The website does not contain info on the owner or visionary of the organization. The only contact information provided is an email address. I emailed the address provided (customer service?) and have yet to receive a response to my questions. There seems to be too much internet traffic about this organization being a scam. Why so many haters? Could the haters really be whistle blowers?
So my question to you all, is WPM legit or just another clever marketing scheme? Does being published by a class B or class C publisher carry any weight? Should you pay to publish your own book? I was selected as a semi-finalist – because my poem was distinguishable. Shouldn’t WPM give me a book for the priveledge of publishing my poem? Why do I have to buy the book, if they are using my work?
I just don’t get the warm and fuzzies about WPM and what they are about. It feels shady…I believe World Poetry Movement is a cleverly designed marketing scam. Your thoughts?

Jere answers:
It’s a notorious scam. Practically everybody who enters that bogus contest gets a letter calling them a “semifinalist,” and gets invited to buy that worthless, ridiculously expensive book, which is just the poems of all the semifinalists slapped between covers. That book has no credibility in the legitimate publishing world. No libraries buy it. No bookstores stock it. Nobody get “critical acclaim” for appearing in it. It sells only to people who enter the contest and are naive enough to fall for the scam. Basically, you send them your poem and they make a fortune selling it back to you.
Sometimes, when people post questions here about scam poetry contests, they get a lot of responses from answerers who sound like sock puppets doing free advertising for the scammers. Some of those answerers talk about buying multiple copies of the book for friends and relatives. Let’s see if that happens in your case.

Why am i not getting a call back from Vector Marketing? A rumored scam / rip off job opportunity?
I have completed 17 years of education consisting of an MBA program and a Bachelors in cost acvounting. I still dont have much work experience but, the job i applied for today was for a company named Vector Marketing affiliated with Cutco. I had gone through every interview process along with high school and college students for a summer job opening. The main representative there had all called every individual in seperately and spoke to them. She told me that she will review with the management and I should receive a email If i get the job , By tonight. I have still not received a mail regarding it. Did I get rejected from a company that is known to recruit almost every candidate that applies? and why? i needed the job, I couldve made something out of it. I had much more professionalism than most if not all the other candidates who were still in the process of completing the their academics. I also did more research of the company ahead of time. Im more concerned about still getting the job if I dont recieve the mail soon
Hey, thanks for all the prompt replies. I wanted to include that, the very fact that the company’s reputation is so terrible looking at the online feedback, that it’s bugging me more than ever why I did not get the call back.

Jere answers:
Believe me, even if you do get a call back, don’t do it. That place rips you off like no other; i used to work there and it was such bs that i quit/got let go. The pay is off of all commission, you have to setup appointments with people to present and try to sell cutco knives to, you do get $15 for every person you present to plus a % of the amount if you sell anything to them, but it’s so hard to find a lot of people to do this for besides family and friends, and at the outrageous prices for the cutco knives many people won’t even consider buying anything and then you will be asked to turn in your knives and not work there anymore becuae your not making any sales.

Joseph asks…
Is this email asking for more in a salary offer ok?
THE ORIGINAL OFFER WAS 27000 with incentives…but i make 27000 NOW at my current job !
Hello:
Unfortunately we have been unable to connect via phone. I hope we are able to speak today or over the weekend. I have reviewed the offer below and would like to suggest the following changes.
Base Salary should be $29,700. That meets a minimum of a 10% increase over what I am currently making. The market average is $32,000 for entry level Marketing Position with similar responsibilities. I feel that this would be a compromise considering the training that will be taking place. Even with the incentives, base salary is important to me. Please outline the other terms and conditions such as benefits upon the close of job description discussion phase. I reviewed the incentives and they are thoroughly outlined and extremely reasonable.
Please call or email me to discuss at your convenience. Thank you!
Jessica Lewis

Jere answers:
Personally, I would not negotiate salary via e-mail. I would maybe just say in the e-mail that the salary offered is well below market average and that you would like to have a conversation to discuss this.
If you do end up going with the e-mail, I would take out the line that says “Please outline the other terms and conditions such as benefits….:” as it doesn’t make sense since the next sentence says the benefits are thoroughly outlined.
