Your Questions About How To Do Business Online In India

Nancy asks…
Starting a proprietary business in India – Mumbai Advice Needed?
Dear All,
I am looking into setting up a proprietary business in India – Mumbai, in the field of Information Technology & Communication, However i have few concerns which i am not sure about, i would highly appreciate any sort of help or advice you guys can offer me.
Note : I will be doing business under three categories as below
1. Getting Computer Parts from the market and assembling them and selling them to clients
2. Getting Ready IT Products from Brands like Epson / HP and selling them to clients
3. Providing Annual Maintenance Contracts (Which i believe falls under the service category)
4. Providing Clients with a online service where they can login and purchase credits to message their clients through various methods.
My Queries Are below.
1. What sort of Tax registrations do i need to get done? and what is the best way to proceed with that. VAT? Service Tax? are they required? (is there anyone from Mumbai who could help me with it)
2. How much will it cost me for all the said registrations to be done.
3. Is there any other details i need to consider whilst starting a proprietary based business.

Legna,

You need Sales Tax / VAT; that is only applicable to your nature of business. You can contact many consultancies who would get you these details.
2. How much will it cost me for all the said registrations to be done.
As far as I am concerned; all registrations / certifications must not take more than 2500 Rs; in chennai I spent Rs.1500 for getting SSI certificate and Service tax certificate through a consultancy.
3. Is there any other details i need to consider whilst starting a proprietary based business.
What else would you need? A company current account is must other than that sales tax certificate; corporate certificate for shops and establishments. I think these are the ones that you would need.

Laura asks…
How do you advertise a database company online?
I am the US contact for a small database business based in India. The company has a website and I’d like to help with marketing the company but I don’t really know who to contact in regards to that. I’ve done a TINY bit of online advertising, but I want to learn more. I was told to send letters to CEOs of small businesses, but I don’t even know the names of any small businesses to get started. So, any tips would be VERY helpful!! Thank you!

Jere answers:
Even though it is not a small business, it is more of just another website that has alot of traffic flow. If you go to areas of heavy public use like myspace or any of those. Go to the very bottom of any of the websites front page. You will see a part that says most likely “contact us”. Then you simply type a business question or any question and they will give you the information you need. I suggest going through actual heavy places that arent soley business areas. Like here on yahoo, myspace, geocities, and other places. Just put up many things, they even have some myspace business profiles to promote business. That should stimulate alot of customer growth as far as I can see.

How can I get an analytical finance job when I have no completed degree?
I’m looking for an analytical finance job, but my circumstances is quite complex. Could someone help me out? Thanking you guys in advance!
A little bit about myself:
I got into retail banking right after high school and worked my way up to a branch manager in one of the big 4.
My boyfriend is a web developer and I was fascinated about the sort of work he does. So I took time out side of work and learnt HTML/CSS and became a web content manager.
After working as a content manager for 2 years, I was made redundant by the employer at the time, as the job was outsourced to India.
Then I started an online business with another friend. It’s been almost a year now, although the business is slowly growing, however the earnings is not enough to cover my home loan and etc…
So I’m actively looking for a job these days.
I have some dilemmas here:
I wanted to come back to finance industry as over the years I realised my heart is still with finance, but this time I would like to get into the analytical side of the finance industry.
However, these jobs often require you to have a completed degree in business/finance/accounting.
I do not have a bachelor degree, but I’m in my second semester of Master of Business.
Do you guys think given the experience I had before and this uncompleted university study, am I able to get some where? Does anybody know what kind of position is a good entry point of these finance analyst?
Also… any ideas what should I say in my cover letter/interview about my switching industries so I don’t look as if I’m a very unstable person?
Again… thank you very much for reading the post and any constructive suggestions are welcome!!
