Can I use PayPal in my online business to make it a legal company?

Hi,
I am starting a online business and I want to know what are the legal procedures to make it legal, I mean, when people go there to advertise whatever they want and pay a certain amount of money per month to advertise using PayPal to me, I need to make it legal.

And if that works with PayPal, that means I can also use Google Checkout and Yahoo! Wallet, isn’t?

What can I do to make my online business legal? What are the procedures?

I live in Alberta, Canada. Please help me with suggestions and tips. Thanks!

Jere answers:

Ah, well, I dont know what the procedures in Canada are, but you have to at least register yourself as a sole proprietor in a small business, $45 fee, and a name search – usually you can get away with a preliminary search for $10, or you may need to do the full search for $40 or so. Go here and select your region for full information:

Here in the US you need at the very least a Federal TAX ID number from the IRS. You can back that up with a fictictious name purchase from the state, and be ready to go using any made up name for your business. If you want to buy things tax free for resale, then you need to have a state issued resale certificate and use that to open an actual company bank account.

How would I go about starting a online business?

I would like to start a online business selling a variety of sex toys and other things of that nature. I would also like to do passion parties. I have a lot of things that I want to try and sell but I don’t know how to go about finding a distributor or a supplier I guess. I would I like to sell books, novelties, toys, and anything else I can think of. Any tips on how to go about this?

Jere answers:

Try El Dorado (http://www.eldorado.net/) they distribute all of the things you mentioned. I would be careful on trying to do too much at once. I would either focus on the on line business or the home parties, but not both, at least not right away.

Best of luck!

Who are good online merchant account providers?

I am planning to start an online business (e-commerce) and I need to accept credit cards online. it is really hard to get a merchant account from banks as they have many requirements. Not good for start-up businesses like mine.

Can you please suggest a good online merchant account provider for an online business?

Jere answers:

You need to look for various factors before selecting a merchant account provider for e-commerce business. Transaction cost is the main thing. Also check for their hidden costs and customer support capabilities.

The other thing you need to look at is what type of goods you are going to sell online. Some businesses are categorized as “high risk merchants” and it will be hard to get a merchant account provider for high risk businesses.

I suggest you to visit http://www.merchant-account-comparison.org/online-merchant-account and read the details. It has useful tips and recommendations for online merchant account service providers.
