What are the laws for underage kids that start their own profitable business?

Say you have 10 year olds starting their own business whether it be online or offline and they profit $1000-2000+/month.

What are the laws/issues with this?

Jere answers:

As others have pointed out, there are no laws specifically prohibiting this, but no one will enter into any contracts with minors unless there is an adult guardian/officer who will accept the responsibility.

You see, minors are not legally bound to a contract because they are considered to lack the ability to fully understand the consequences. I know, most adults don’t fully understand the consequences, either, but the law magically makes you an adult at 18.

So, depending on the industry (and subsequent liabilities) you may want to form a separate legal organization (LLC or corporation) with an adult as Director on the Board of Directors. This makes the adult an officer who can sign contracts on behalf of the company.

Also, since you mentioned multiple children, you want to make sure you have some agreement in place regarding the responsibilities of each and their respective shares in the company. A partnership defaults to equal shares if there is no agreement in place.v

Where and how to buy a share in an already running business online.?

Anybody know where on internet to get a share in an already running business? I’m a college student having no time to have my own business but at the same time I don’t want to keep my inherited money useless. And surely I may not have experience in any sort of business. So searching for an online mean to invest my money in a business.

Jere answers:

I’ll take your money and buy you some yahoo shares, just send me your account information.

Obviously, you shouldn’t do that because you have no idea who I am. You should not be asking how to invest here, you should sit down with a live human being (probably a banker and maybe an accountant) and figure out your strategy.
