Your Questions About Internet Business For Sale

Lisa asks…
internet business to buy, how to check reliability?
i am trying to search for a carer working from home. dont know where to start. i saw a website marketing businesses for sale. one of which was an internet business. dont know if there is a reliable site that i can find similar businesse on and how to check how successful they are how likely are they to be profitable

Jere answers:
Start with a search engine and a company name.
You want to talk to a person without having to fill out some email- “contact us and we will contact you,” kinda form.
You want to find an address too- not a PO Box, but a physical address. Usually I would Google Earth the address and look at the company’s front door- if they have a concrete sign out front they are planning to be around. If they have a paper sign taped to the door then…. Well that doesn’t look good.
Are they North American bound, or in another country? Not that the US or Canada has the best enforcement of these things, but some countries have no enforcement. And if something goes wrong fighting a company internationally is impossible while US bound companies can be sued.
Contact the city and get licensing information.
Do they have a Wiki page (just thought of this one)?
What about the BBB? Consumer Affairs? Business magazines like Inc are a great source.
The first nine out of every ten you should figure them as scams in the first ten minutes of research, while that one will take a little longer. Generally I did a few minutes of looking, crossed them off the list and moved on, if they did not get crossed off in ten minutes then come back to them.
Its my experience that about 99% are scams, so take care of your personal security first (SSN and computer).
When you decide say no the first time you talk to a salesmen and see what they do- if you get no call back then that is a good sign, if you get hounding calls every day you are talking to a company that does not care about you.
I hope that helps, if you need some help or maybe a lead on something that I know is legit then drop me an email and I will see what I can do to help you out.

Thomas asks…
Where can I sell an internet business?
What is the basic pricing basis?
This is a membership sales business with recurring income.. very small at the moment at $500-$800 monthly income and a very good six letter domain name. The income could easily grow and the rebill rate is at least 80% with no tangible product and no bandwidth costs. The only cost is $8 per year for the domain name and this is it. The only time investment is ten minutes twice per week now that I have everything all set up fine and nice.

Really I would be happy and pleased with some small amt. like say $19,000…. that way I would be able to use hard money for turning property over and I could make quite a bit of money at that.

Jere answers:
These kind of sales are made every day on Ebay and you don’t need to worry about the price, it goes for what someone is willing to pay and the highest bidder wins.

Mary asks…
Best way to advertise this internet business?
If you were to start this business from scratch (https://www.london.keyholderdatabase.org.uk/) how would you advertise to get maximum effect? If you saw this business what would make you want to sign up? Its not my website, I am doing a case study and looking for ways for the company to improve sales. I am a business student and in no way connected to the company.
Just a bit more to add. The busines has limited funds also so please take that into consideration when suggesting ideas.

Jere answers:
Internet advertising is best done by search engines – Yahoo, Google, MSN etc.
They offer SEO (Pay per click, Optimisation) Basically you open an account – make a simple advertisement, tell them how much you want to spend per day/month then they will place the ad on their pages.

Chris asks…
Trusted website for internet business purchase?
I’m looking to invest into a small internet business website but there are many websites out there providing auctions. I’m wondering is there a list of trusted websites (accurate and verified stats of the websites for sale). And in general any tips on where to start and what to look for so I don’t get scammed would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Jere answers:
A web site is not a business, it is a tool. You would invest in a business, not in a web site. Start with a business broker who lists businesses for sale. See my article.

Daniel asks…
where is a good place to buy an internet business?
where do you find web businesses for sale

Jere answers:
The best thing is start selling stuff on EBAY. My daughter makes about $500 a week selling stuff she finds for pennies at garage sales.
