Your Questions About Internet Business For Sale

Sharon asks…
what is a good state to incorporate an website business?
as a internet Business our sales are sold all over. we do not sale anything but are paid commission. as an affiliate program.

Jere answers:
Nevada seems very corporation, LLC friendly.
As I understand, a seller working with an affiliate residing in a state taxing affiliates, that company is considered to be operating in the state and is subject to sales taxes for all sales to that state.

Jenny asks…
What homebased internet business can keep me busy & make me money while I am temporarily housebound?
I am looking to get involved in an internet business in the short term while I recover from surgery. For obvious reasons I have all sorts of time to devote to any venture. I would hope to establishing a strong base for anything I got involved in while I was confined, with a view to building on that base once I fully recovered.

Jere answers:
Wow, this is a HUGE area and there are a TON of people who are willing to give you bogus information to sell you information products.
There are legitimate ways, and other ways. There are easy ways, and hard. There are expensive and free. So make sure you’re ready to do a lot of reading and make sure you have good discernment.
Okay, so the FASTEST way to start earning money on the internet if by using Pay Per Click or PPC advertsing to drive clicks to sites that sell things. Do a google search – see those things on the right side? They are ads. You can by them just like I can. They are called Google AdWords. Microsoft has MSN AdCenter and Yahoo has it to. And there are others.
You can purchase ads to send customers to clickbank or other sites and profit if that customer purchases. This is a VERY effective method, but if you don’t know what you’re doing it can be VERY expensive. You HAVE to know what you are doing. I got introduced to it by a program called GoogleCash which was a great educational course for me. Read there sales page here…

There are also great programs out there, like this one:

But I really like Chris Carpenters (that’ the author) Googlecash. I guess it holds a special place in my heart because it’s what I used when I first started.
After PPC stuff, you have content based sites, which I think will do better in the long run. Content is what Google is looking for. Good content that is written by a human and which answers someones question. Blogging with WordPress is a common way to blog. WordPress is completely free, but you’ll need a website to host it on. Here are details on blogging for profit:

And this is the web host that I use. I love HostGator:

There is a ton of information out there friend. My recommendation is to be honest, don’t try any get rich quick schemes and treat this like a business. Read the website, WebMasterWorld and ClickBankSuccessForum. Read Read Read.
Good luck friend!

Paul asks…
What legal steps do I have to do when opening an internet business?
I am currently living in Mexico but I am an American citizen. I am currently working on an information website that I hope to make a few bucks here or there with advertisement. I do not want to register my business in Mexico. What do I have to do to make my internet business legal in the states?
Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Jere answers:
What type of internet business are you running? E-commerce? Affiliation? Internet Marketing?
Of course the best course would be to go through a lawyer not only to give you legal advice but to prepare the proper documentation.
Otherwise, you’ll need a disclaimer page, privacy policy page, and have your website copyrighted. You may also need to submit an EIN number for tax purposes (many times you only need your ss), sales permit, and/or business permit depending on what state you live in.
Hope this helps

Carol asks…
what defines an internet sale from a tax point of view?
I understand that internet sales are non-taxed. If this is true then what legally constitutes an internet sale?

Jere answers:
What ever State you live in you must collect the tax on all sales in that state. If you have a business registered in Nevada, Wyoming
or another tax free state, and your company is located outside that state, then you will pay income tax to the state you operate in. If no other state claims your company and you do business in California, that state will tax you on gross sales for the year even if you are registered in another state. To avoid problems here is the simple answer. Form a c corp. Hire it to manage your business and pay yourself a base salary. Fill out the paperwork with the Secretary of states office as a foreign corporation and pay the fees. Open a corporate bank account in the tax free state where you have incorporated and set up a payment plan for your salary with deductions automatically with the bank. All state and federal taxes will be deducted. As an “employee” operating outside of the corporate state, no state can lay claim to your corporate tax if your base location is in a tax free state. Hire a lawyer as a registered agent and all mail will be sent to his/her office and fore-worded back to you in what ever state you live in.
There you have an address, bank account, legal representation and a tax free corporation with no sales tax owed any state in which you have no physical holdings and no state can claim you as a taxable corporation. You will only pay federal tax and the minimum at that.
