Your Questions About Internet Business Phone Service

Thomas asks…

Our business records phone calls for customer service. Does the web site privacy policy apply to calls?

Like a lot of businesses, we record customer phone calls to ensure quality. We use a third party to handle the monitoring and there is a debate internally as to weather we need to append our Internet privacy policy to reflect this, or not. Some say yes, others say phone calls are technically covered by a website policy. Any advice or suggested references I might be able to check would be appreciated.

Jere answers:

The website privacy policy has nothing to do with the phone policy — it’s apples and oranges. In most states, you’re required to disclose that the call may be recorded prior to starting the call.

Nancy asks…

Jere answers:

I use an android phone so it’s worth it, but I think is a load of crap that my wife’s phone if she bought it today (enVtouch) would need data because it is considered a 3g phone and all 3g devices are required to have data now….

Helen asks…

Is CBeyond worth it as a small business internet/voice provider?

I work for a small law firm with about 7-12 people on a daily basis. We’re considering switching to CBeyond, who will provide us 3 T1 internet service (4.0 mbps) and phone service. I’m trying to do as much research as possible before we make the switch. Has anyone had experience with this provider? Good…bad?

Jere answers:

They are a good provider, but I’d make sure I got a whole bunch of different quotes for the T1’s and business phone package before I signed on the dotted line. Make sure you get at least 3 quotes, from different providers, then come back and ask us to compare the offers you’ve received, that will make it easier to tell you who to go with.

Looking to start a business in Boston area – need advice on reliable telephone and internet companies?

We are opening up a branch of our office in the Norwood, MA area. I need to set up the office with internet and phone service. Does anyone know of any companies that are reliable?

Jere answers:

I would go with Verizon Business FIOS and phone service if it is available in Norwood, but if Verizon is only offering DSL internet in Norwood, i’d go with Comcast, as their cable internet is much faster than Verizon’s DSL and their phone service is reliable as well

James asks…

Can you get Residential DSL service from Qwest for Business (office space)?

Me and my partner are looking for DSL Internet service for an office space. We noticed that Business service is substanitally more money and our business doesn’t need crucial Business Services (quick response etc…) We are willing to go a day or so without Internet; no big deal… I noticed I go through the Qwest checkout process online for Residential and our address shows up correctly (It is Commercial/office space)… What does setting up DSL entail? We won’t have a phone number, just Internet service… Any ideas…
What other options do you recommend? It seems I only have Qwest or Comcast… Comcast doesn’t have service their either..

Jere answers:

Please, for your own sake do not get qwest internet, I dread choosing qwest ever day
