Your Questions About Internet Business Plan

James asks…

what steps do i have to follow to start up an internet company?

hey, i have a not so original, but great internet business plan, what steps do i follow, (in chronological order if possible), to be able to start one? all help appreciated.

Jere answers:

At the risk of sounding flippant, it sounds like you have an internet business IDEA, not a PLAN. If you had a business plan, it would include the actions steps to implement your idea. If you look in my answer Source, you will see the program I used to get a complete A-Z internet marketing education and start one of my online businesses in just one month while working in my spare time.

Good luck!

Sharon asks…

How do you write a business plan for a startup?

I wrote a business plan but I’m somewhat unsure whether it confirms to the accepted standards to go in front of a VC or a SBA-approved bank. Could you please show me how to write a business plan through a website, or give me some pointers from personal experience? Thank you in advance.

According to the book “The ABC’s of Writing Winning Business Plans: How to Prepare a Business Plan That Others Will Want to Read — and Invest In” http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0446694150/powerhomebizguid by Garrett Sutton, below are some tips to make a winning business plan that can get funding:

– Money follows management. Investors look first at the people involved in the company. If you are just starting out and don’t have relevant experience, investors expect to see that you have an experienced team of advisors and employees helping you in the business.

– Make sure you “sell” the one reason your business will become profitable.

– State clearly the strategies you will employ to get the word out about your business. Your business plan must show how you will leverage the Internet, public relations, viral marketing, and other strategies to attract customers.

– Present realistic estimates of the time, energy and costs of building a successful business. Do not underestimate or overestimate revenues. While investors know your numbers are simply guesses, they want to see that your numbers are within the “range of reality.” Be careful of your financial statements: this is one area where you can easily lose credibility if presented poorly.

– Benchmark similar companies to show that you’ve done your homework and researched the market.

– Your Executive Summary is your calling card. If it is not a winner, investors may not even read your entire plan. Emphasize your own as well as your team’s track record in the Executive Summary.

– Before sending your business plan to lenders and investors, send it out first to a few in order to get feedback. You’d want to correct your plan if someone tells you that you’re way off mark, rather than have a potential investor tell it to you and lose the chance to get the funding you need.

Charles asks…

How to write an effective business plan. How to perform market research on local marinas?

I am writing a business plan to open a new marina. I have been to S.C.O.R.E. and I am having a difficult time with market research and what the expectations of a business plan really are.

Jere answers:

As a computer business consultant, I have had the privilege of helping quite a few online companies go through the business plan phase of start up. I recommend this software package from Palo Alto as it does a great job for a do it yourself-er. It has 500 templates to choose from.

They even have state and county wide market research on marinas in your area. Http://www.paloalto.com/market_research/?affiliate=sequimpc

I am making the assumption that if you are going to put out the money to open a marina, $300 is within your budget.

TOP TEN DO’S

1. Prepare a complete business plan for any business you are considering.
2. Use the business plan templates furnished in each session.
3. Complete sections of your business plan as you proceed through the course.
4. Research (use search engines) to find business plans that are available on the Internet.
5. Package your business plan in an attractive kit as a selling tool.
6. Submit your business plan to experts in your intended business for their advice.
7. Spell out your strategies on how you intend to handle adversities.
8. Spell out the strengths and weaknesses of your management team.
9. Include a monthly one-year cash flow projection.
10. Freely and frequently modify your business plans to account for changing conditions.

TOP TEN DON’TS

1. Be optimistic (on the high side) in estimating future sales.
2. Be optimistic (on the low side) in estimating future costs.
3. Disregard or discount weaknesses in your plan. Spell them out.
4. Stress long-term projections. Better to focus on projections for your first year.
5. Depend entirely on the uniqueness of your business or the success of an invention.
6. Project yourself as someone you’re not. Be brutally realistic.
7. Be everything to everybody. Highly focused specialists usually do best.
8. Proceed without adequate financial and accounting know-how.
9. Base your business plan on a wonderful concept. Test it first.
10. Skip the step of preparing a business plan before starting.

Linda asks…

Do you know where I can find a sample ambulance company business plan?

The reason I’m asking is because I’ve been looking for one and haven’t found one yet. If I make an ambulance company business plan, do you think it will sell over the internet or on ebay at only $50 as an example to help other paramedics or emt’s thinking about opening one?

Jere answers:

It’s easy. Ffind a bunch of trial lawers that can drive fast. Tell them they get 10 bucks for every person they pick up and drive to the hospital. Watch the money roll in!

Seriously, here is a site that has free business plans you can look at to get an idea.
