Your Questions About Internet Marketing Association

Ken asks…

How do I market my product to internet retailers?

Jere answers:

If you are serious find your market’s trade association and plan on exhibiting at their annual and local shows. This is where the buyers come in and find out about new products. It costs a little but you can’t find a better place to get your product in front of the buyers at one place.

Donna asks…

is network marketing lawful?

is gamma network legal

Jere answers:

Network marketing is absolutely legal. Not sure if you understand correctly what network marketing is. It is legal business model with multilevel network of consumers and distributors. It’s also called MLM and it’s actualy an offline business and doing MLM on the internet isn’t really network marketing. It’s more like internet marketing with network marketing reward system. All legal network marketing comapanies are registered with DSA ( direct selling association). Check DSA.org for more info. I don’t know anything about gamma network but network marketing must have periodically consumable product(s). Beware of bad companies. There 4 main groups of MLM comapanies:
1. Fake ones. Illegal schemes trying to look like network marketing companies. (not registered with DSA, registered in off-shore zone, have no product or product doesn’t suit for MLM etc)
2. Flat liners. Legal companies with slow growth.
3. MLM giants making over 1 billion a year in sales
4. Young emerging companies with high potentialto become a network marketing giant. Good company must hit the exponential growth after first 5 years and stabilize at 10th birthday. People joined company within first 5 years earn most.

Choose company wisely because you can loose your money, good name and friends.

Here’s an example of good company:

Susan asks…

Need some internet marketing help.?

I have a niche social site call it: www.bigdog.com. I am building another niche ad site. I don’t have a name for that yet and that is my question. What to call the second niche ad site.

Either one could work on their own, so different names would be OK. But they also share a little bit of commonality, so they could also be tied via the name. like:

bigdog.com (social)
bigdog.org (ads)

My question: is it better to use the same name for both, thus creating a little bit more branding power with the two. Kind of: 1 plus 1 = 3.

Or, would visitors rather see a name that is devoted just to the niche ad site. Like eBay. They’re auction site is ebay.com, but the new ebay ad site is kijiji.com. Maybe in their case they thought less branding would be better, since they already have great brand awareness.

BTW, the current site (bigdog.com) does not have any brand awareness yet.

Any thoughts on this?

Any help is much appreciated.

Jere answers:

Personally, I would opt for a different domain name. If you had to sell the domain name in the future, the new owner would NOT want any association with your designated brand. By creating a unique name, you will also add value to it IF you decide to sell.

Thomas asks…

Vector Marketing. Scam or Not?

So I just got hired at this great sounding job. But now my dad is on my ass saying that it’s a scam. I’ve done my research looked at tons of blogs, and to me it sounds like if you work hard you really will make good money. But on the other hand if you just kinda half-ass and don’t make an effort this job could seem like a scam to you.

I just would like to know some of your guys’ opinions on this. And please if you’ve never heard of Vector Marketing, or don’t have any hands-on experience don’t give me your bullshit, I don’t want to hear what you’ve heard. I want to hear what people know.

Thanks.
I also don’t want to hear about other “great” jobs. Just tell me what you KNOW about Vector Marketing.
Is it possible to just get a straight answer from you people? Jesus Christ.

Jere answers:

I would not put much credence to anything on the Internet. People can say anything they want about a company, good or bad. I don’t know anything about this company but if you have any doubts or concerns then I would suggest you spend some time contacting your local Better Business Bureau. Another resource is your state Consumer Affairs Office. Most states have a consumer affairs office but it may be under another name. If there have been many complaints then the BBB should have some sort of record. Anything serious could have a file with the state. A good rule of thumb is that if a job requires you to put money up front or purchase anything before starting to work then it is probably not legitimate. Most industries have trade associations. I would see what trade associations they may belong and check with them. There are some good companies and others that run scams. I have no idea which this company falls. If your Dad feels that it is a scam then I would at least investigate the company further. I would also ask your Dad why he feels that it is a scam. I am not saying that he is right in his assumption, but he has much more life experience than you and may see something that you don’t. In any case, you owe it to yourself to check them out thoroughly.
