Your Questions About Internet Marketing Degree

Maria asks…
I have a lot computer knowlege and skills but I don’t have a degree. Where could I get a job.?
I dont have a degree. I dont know any programming languages. I am not good at graphic design.. I have a lot internet knowledge. Familiar with ecommerce, internet marketing, microosoft office, and many other programs

Jere answers:
There is a large gap between the proficient end user, which is what it sounds like you are, and an IT professional. Another thing working against you is many employers use a 4yr degree as the basic qualifier on job applications. They toss anything where the person does not have a degree. Sometimes even a 2yr degree is not enough.
As far as what you need to get a job: The Holy Grail for IT employment is a 4 year degree, some industry certs and experience. If you have all three of those you should be good. If you have none of them you will be competing with other people who have two elements or perhaps all three.

Nancy asks…
Confusing on choosing degree on marketing or finance?
Currently I’m a diploma business student and I’m going to further my study to degree soon. The problem now I’ve met is I’m confusing on choosing which courses. I hope I can find some suitable answer for me here.
I have go through some self career test in the internet and I found that’s not really useful to me.
I think I shall share some of my experience to you. I’m really interested in marketing course and business field. But, marketing job often require marketing people to expose to customer. Promote new products to them, I often found that I don’t have communication skills to approaching and convincing customer to buy my products. This happens when I do presentation in class. I’m totally nervous and lack of confidence until I found my voice and hand shaking! I know this is so embarrassing but I can’t totally control myself! I never have a compliment when doing presentation and this cause me totally lost confidence on my performance. As I know, the basic requirement for marketing people is self confidence. Since I can’t even achieve this basic requirement, should I further my degree in marketing? And how do I deal business with customer with this embarrassing behavior?
In the other hand, I might choose finance as my second choice. But, do finance relevant to accounting because I’m not really interested in accounting field. People often mixed finance and accounting together, do they have the same task? I found that finance is more on brainy stuff and needs a lot of hard work on calculation. But I still can learn it slowly if I want. And 1 more thing, if I prefer finance, I might study abroad while compare to marketing which I still remain at the same place and the same university. I really hope to expose to new environment but only finance allow me to do so. That’s why this became my 2nd reason to choose finance.
Really needs recommendation and suggestion from you guys and thanks for concern on my problem =)

Jere answers:
You have a wrong assumption here. A lot of marketing positions don’t involve making presentations to the customer anymore. With a lot of companies have a rigid organizational structure, all the presentation to the customer is handled by the Sales people. Marketing communicates and prepares the presentation to the sales people, who may have more questions for you. The sales people go on and present to the customer. I have been doing marketing for 7 yrs and I am yet to make a presentation to any customer. It is after you get to a certain level that you would be expected to present to a customer.
About whether to do marketing or Finance? Do whichever one you are most interested in. It is easier to do better at something you are interested in. There will be tough days whichever one you choose, and when those tough days come, you will be willing to work harder at the one you are interested in. If you are doing the other one, when those tough days come, you will be telling yourself. I wish I was not doing this one and doing the other one, which is what I really wanted anyhow.

Mandy asks…
What is an seo web marketing specialist?
I am looking for a job, and a place is hiring for this. The job description says i would manage website marketing, like search engine oprimization, internet video, blogging, and other things. Also to use traffic tracking apps to recognice patterns and trends to get effective marketing techniques. I would do this freelance since i am 17 and still in school
So what exactly do you do? also it wants examples, so would i need a degree?? and what would examples be?

Jere answers:
This job requires someone to help make a website easily found by search engines, so that when someone types keywords into Google, for example, that website is at the top of the search results list.
To do this job well you need to understand how search engines work and how websites are built.
You would need to be able to demonstrate to your manager that you have made changes to the website that are driving more visitor traffic from search engines.
This is usually a job done by someone with a marketing background who understands what potential business customers are searching for, what website design and content changes are most effective and who can stay on top of search engine technology.
