Your Questions About The Real Biz

John asks…

Once you have passed the CA real estate exam, how much does it cost to get started in the business?

I have heard passing the exam is relatively easy with preparation, but that it costs over 1000 to get yourself started with access to listings, exposure, etc. Is this true? If you have experience selling real estate in California, how much did it cost including everything to get started to the point where you were making something in return.

Jere answers:

I didnt’ start in Cali, but I imagine its fairly comparable. I signed on with John L Scott in WA state.

Most branches have monthly fees to conver B&O insurnace, taxes, long distance, photocopying, etc. Mine averaged about $150 a month with no extras liek “desk fees” or anything. It covered actual costs to the branch in relation to my employment.

The MLS part was fun too. Dues are like $100 a quarter, and you have to pay like $100 to get going (which included the 4+ hour class on how to navigate the system.)

Also there was a $100 fee to lease the electronic key for 1 year– this is what gets you into houses.

Also, my branch requried that we be members of the National Realtor association– $100 a quarter.

Business cards were like $20.

Figure it takes you 3 months to get your first sale closed…this is actually pretty optimistic considering closings take 30 days and you dont get customers right away.

So your costs for 3 months:

Exam fee: $100.
License fee: $100 (this is sent into the state when you choose a broker to work for.)
3 months of office fees: 450
MLS ‘setup’ fee: 100
MLS key fee: 100
1 quarter MLS dues: 100
1 quarter Realtor Dues: 100
Biz cards: 20
TOTAL: $1070.

Fun, eh? I did one sale in a 6 month period and then quit, and the sale netted me $1600, and so I broke even.

Jere answers:

Real player video is rmvb video, and iTunes video has DRM copyright protection.
You may try this media tool, it can convert iTunes protected video and rmvb video to mp4 video for PSP, my friends recommend it to me, it’s easy to use and works pretty well

Michael asks…

How can we know whether the home biz that we choose is the right for us?

Too many choices of home business in internet. All require money as start up.Can some one introduce me to the real ones?

Jere answers:

You need money to make money – I think you are going about it the wrong way though – sit down and come up with a list of your strengths and weaknesses, things you like to do and what you dont like to do, then match up what you got with what is out there – but dont go for these “give us 50$ and we will help you get started on your own business’ – those may not be scams but they sure as hell are not what they are claiming to be – anyway, if you are really confused and serious about starting your own business, you can IM me and we can work it out….
