Southern Poverty Law Center officially declared “left-wing hate group”

Though always left of center, the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) once had a reputation as a fairly objective civil rights group. Founded by direct–marketing millionaire Morris Dees and partner Joseph Levin Jr. in 1971, the SPLC made important and honorable contributions to many of the historic civil rights gains of the 20th Century. According to its own materials, the SPLC was “internationally known for tracking and exposing the activities of hate groups.”

Alas, “power corrupts,” as it goes, and the SPLC, having amassed tremendous power and wealth over the years, has regrettably become corrupt to its core. By way of an ever-escalating wave of “us-versus-them” money-grubbing schemes, Today’s SPLC has morphed into a far-left political activist outfit, famous for promoting a panoply of extreme liberal causes.

Ken Silverstein, writing for Harper’s Magazine, addressed this untoward metamorphosis in 2000: “Today’s SPLC spends most of its time — and money — on a relentless fund-raising campaign, peddling memberships in the church of tolerance with all the zeal of a circuit rider passing the collection plate. ‘He’s the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker of the civil rights movement,’ renowned anti-death-penalty lawyer Millard Farmer says of Dees, his former associate, ‘though I don’t mean to malign Jim and Tammy Faye.’

“The American Institute of Philanthropy gives the Center one of the worst ratings of any group it monitors,” continued Silverstein. “Morris Dees doesn’t need your financial support. The SPLC is already the wealthiest civil rights group in America, though [its fundraising literature] quite naturally omits that fact. … ‘Morris and I…shared the overriding purpose of making a pile of money,’ recalls Dees’s business partner, a lawyer named Millard Fuller (not to be confused with Millard Farmer). ‘We were not particular about how we did it; we just wanted to be independently rich.'” (You say Fuller. I say Farmer. The two Millards say “call the whole thing off.”)

So, what happens when a dragon slayer — paid per dragon head — runs out of real dragons to slay? Well, he invents new ones, of course. Gotta keep those sprinklers-a-sprinklin.’ (According to Harper’s, “Dees bought a 200-acre estate appointed with tennis courts, a pool, and stables.” SPLC’s 2008 Form-990 shows net assets of over 219 million at the beginning of that year. Yup, there’s a spate to be made in the hate trade.)

Silverstein explains:

“The Ku Klux Klan, the SPLC’s most lucrative nemesis, has shrunk from 4 million members in the 1920s to an estimated 2,000 today [year 2000], as many as 10 percent of whom are thought to be FBI informants. But news of a declining Klan does not make for inclining donations to Morris Dees and Co., which is why the SPLC honors nearly every nationally covered ‘hate crime’ with direct-mail alarums full of nightmarish invocations of ‘armed Klan paramilitary forces’ and ‘violent neo-Nazi extremists…'”

But as the real dragons dry-up, new dragons emerge: “Tea Party” conservatives; Evangelical Christians; anti-abortion zealots and anti-gay bigots (read: pro-life and pro-family traditionalists); and, of course, gun-toting, knuckle-dragging 2nd Amendment rednecks. All bundled together — courtesy of the SPLC and Janet “the system worked” Napolitano — in that neat little pejorative package know as — Dun-Dun-Dun! — THE RIGHT-WING EXTREMIST! (You know, basically Middle America.)

So, sadly — shamefully, really — today’s SPLC has become nothing more than a “non-profit” extension of the black helicopter, Huffpo-wing of the Democratic Party — a gaggle of partisan hacks bent on lining their pockets, defaming good people (along with the bad) and filling DNC coffers. (SPLC Director Mark Potok even doubles as a Huffington Post columnist. Seriously. They make it that easy.)

The real problem lies in the fact, however, that the SPLC holds itself out as an objective monitor of potentially violent or subversive hate groups. It presents to municipal, state and federal law enforcement, regular “intelligence files” and an annual “Year in Hate” report. Ostensibly, these reports contain facts — even actionable intelligence — aimed at helping law enforcement officials

My Manager told me to make payroll system.
Payroll will cover the following:
1.Each user will login with username and password, Access will be strictly denied the username and password is incorrect.
2.User will select Year, and month
3.If he have not filled his form, he will fill his form
4.If he has filled the form, he is able to have a printout of the form.
5.If there is a mistake, user can change it and make print again.

If I had to describe myself in one word I couldn’t do it, not to sound cocky or anything I just can’t. I like to look at myself & think that I’m ahead of my years. As an kid I LOVED going to school. I use to cry & get upset if my mother signed me out for early dissmals, because I had a doctor’s appointment or for whatever reason. God forbid if I didn’t get to go to school at all for that day. You would need a mop to clean up all thoses tears. I loved going to school to learn about anything. Learning filled a void for me that I was missing at home. Learning made me feel special. My biggest critic is myself & I can’t stress this enough. The reason why this is because I didn’t exactly have the greatest childhood growing up. My mother would yell at me all the time & tell me that I was no good & that I would never amount to anything. I had no father around to wipe the tears from my eyes, so I learn at a very young age that if you want something you better go for it. I see young adults my age that walk around & expect the world to bend over backwards for them. The way I see it is the world doesn’t owe you nothing! You owe the world. What I mean by this is that you owe the world & yourself to strive to be a productive member of society & to take pride in everything you do, never give up or give in, even an inch. Although I’ve been through many trials and tribulations, I’ve always found a way to succeed.

To be honest, I haven’t always had straight A’s or been an honor roll student, but I have alway’s felt that education is the greatest gift you can give yourself. i would like to know what the requirements are to start an online business in Dubai.

1)Do i need a license? cos i dont have shop,and its just being done virtually..

2)Do i need to pay anything of my sales as Sales tax to the government?

Man I am puzzled. They say “How ya doin” and before I have time to think says,”good, good” and move on to their real biz. Okay Am I doing this right?

I wanted to start to sell on Ebay, I have done it before but never as a Real Biz. I have Opened up my Ebay Store, Regestered it with Secertary of State, and picked up a H&R Block Biz. package I write all my buying/Selling ect. I am going start up a account at the bank when my biz card comes in the mail. Will lenders verify taxes I provide as proof of income – that it was filed already?

The problem is, I want to show as much income as I am able, minus the larger write-offs I do each year so I don’t have to pay soo much taxes.

So I want an accountant to do my taxes using my real biz income but include only my smaller and essential write-offs and then provide me a copy without filing it yet. Then I would submit this copy to the lending institution. And a month or soo later, I would add in all my main write-offs and file it.
Note that the gross income would remain un-changed, so for general purposes of income and ability to pay the loan, I am being honest.

My question is, does the Lending institution have a way to, and will they, verify that I actually filed the returns that I provided to them?

I need to send email blasts to a database of around 15,000 previous customers/guests. But i want more than just to be able to send an email i want it to perhaps have good design templates/wizards, mail open reports and stuff like that.

I have never done this before, it has always been an IT guy who has written some program for me, all i had to do was draft the email and provide the database. But now I am running my own company and don’t have an IT department I need to do it myself now.

I would like to use an email marketing / newsletter package to send emails to members of my organisation but do not really know where to start.

I have done a few simple emails using outlook but it doesnt look that good and a fair few bounce back.

What should I expect at an Internet Workshop?

Very recently I attended an introductory seminar conducted by a prominent Internet business promoter with a very good reputation, and I signed up for a retail website through which I will market various products. Soon I will be attending a followup Internet Workshop at which I will receive training and an opportunity to purchase the “Professional” version of their offering. Can anyone tell me what I should expect the financial offer to be that they will extend to me, i.e., the cost I would incur? I am trying to plan for this, and others’ experience in this sort of venture would be most helpful.

My browsing is sort of fast, but my upload speeds are dead slow.?

My temporary roommate just moved out of my house (finally!), and we was running on a router with cable modem just fine with fast speeds. Before that, we were having troubles and we found out it was ip address conflictions (we both were trying to take the same ip address or something).

So now he is gone, he took his router, now im connected straight to the modem (motorola kind). Finally took a while to speed up (sometimes it wouldn’t connect at all), but most sites will run fine, others will take super slow. I can’t even upload nothing on my online project management system for my web design business. Everytime I upload, it just times out. When i get on the computer at school and try, works fine. If you think its something dealing with ip addesses again or something, please let me know..

Getting out of a Cell Contract?

I’m the type of guy who wants the latest and greatest in Tech.

I recently (just came back) had the chance to get the Motorola Atrix. Last night, I sat down, finding EVERY possible way to get out of the contract.
I found the following:

1. Cry your way out. Find an excuse, grab some proof, be polite, You’ll be out.
2. Get dropped calls. Document places where your calls get dropped. The contract states that they will provide you with service if you pay in a timely fashion. Just keep getting your calls dropped, and call them as a complaint. They’ll be able to see all the dropped calls and should be able to terminate your contract with no ETF.
3. This is probably the one in where the law is truly on your side, but I don’t understand too well.

Number 3:
I came back from speaking to a cellphone network (Bell) representative. I told him that I can’t hold on to a phone for 3 years, he told me he understands, and tried to persuade me AWAY from the sale, so that I don’t just waste money like that.

You buy the phone for $179.99 with contract.

In a month, making sure you keep the phone unopened, you cancel the contract, and pay an ETF (max $500 in this case). That way, you’re out of contract and you can sell the Arc online for $600.

You just made $100…. Is this possible? Can you open up 10 contracts and do this?

On the heels of another defeat for national reform of illegal immigration policies, Georgia’s own response went into effect Sunday.
Senate Bill 529, adopted with much debate and fanfare a year ago, is slated to slowly start adding new requirements for verifying workers’ citizenship status and cracking down on those who prey on illegal immigrants.
Although Georgia received national attention for being the first state to move ahead on its own while Congress remained deadlocked on illegal immigration, SB 529 actually makes few sweeping changes initially.
Beginning Monday, large companies wanting to do business with local or state government agencies had to show they have registered to use the federal Employment Eligibility Verification Program, an online database run by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Also known as the Basic Pilot Program, the check is free for employers who will be required to check the status of any new workers hired after last Sunday and see if their Social Security numbers are valid.
During this first year SB 529 is in effect, only companies with 500 employees or more will be made to participate if they want to bid on government contracts in Georgia.
As it gets phased in, all contractors and subcontractors working with the state or local governments will be required to enroll after July of 2009.
The Georgia Department of Labor recently released how it will implement the verification rules, but Commissioner Michael Thurmond said there has been little response from the contracting and building communities which have been preparing for the new law.
“Many have already participated voluntarily, especially the larger employers, which will be this first group,” Thurmond said.
More than 500 Georgia companies already are participating in the verification system, based on a recent check.
Thurmond said some questions still remain about the new law’s verification requirements, including whether major companies based outside the state will have to comply if they have fewer than 500 workers in Georgia now. Thurmond said he would not be surprised if legislators revisit it to add more measures on the enforcement end of the law.
“The legislation didn’t speak to that particular aspect of it,” he said. “We proposed a system of random audits, but that was not funded. Hopefully, in the future, that will be.”

careers for idiots?

I’m 47, single, living with my mom, and am about $15000 in debt, not including credit cards. I graduated high school in ’77, started at University of Houston, got sideswiped by a car while on my motorcycle, returned to college in ’82 after doing odd jobs, and declared Finance my major. I tried for several years to get into Investments but couldn’t understand why I was turned down repeatedly. I finally landed a job in a commercial bank in ’84. The bank then laid me off in early ’85 (oil bust) and I felt screwed.. I didn’t know that sometimes the good guys get the axe. And other banks that had hired my coworkers wouldn’t even consider me! I tried to get special considerations from the dean of Finance in ’85 (some of my my classmates had gotten similar favors), and was turned down by the dean. Seeing the economy going south I quit school again. After all, my education hadn’t prevented me from getting dumped. I went through an extended period of unemployment, tried to start a business in ’88, and finally landed in telemarketing in ’89. More low-level jobs followed and then I got what I thought was the break. I had a chance to return to college and get a BS Social Science plus a CIW certification. Now I was set to become a computer programmer. After all, I had a degree plus training in Java, HTML, Perl, PHP, Javascript, ASP!! I was no longer going to be the failure that I had become. I went to the local WorkSource meetings, registered with about 100+ agencies, looked online, scoured buildings in my area, talked to every one I knew, redid my resume a dozen times, attended a job search workshop, and did every thing you are supposed to do to find a job. About four miserable years later my mom and I were on food stamps, had about $4 in the bank, no major assets, no jobs forthcoming, and thoughts of just ending it. I couldn’t figure it out because this time I had done it right.

I had completed my education and times were supposed to get better. Suddenly a little company in my neighborhood hired me for $7.50 an hour to do customer service over the phone. I bought some new underwear for myself that Christmas, started putting money in the bank, and even got promoted to Help desk at $8.50 an hour. But, alas, the manager at this little office started purposefully cutting my hours and such to make me quit. I took it for a while but my dignity got in the way. I told him I was out of there and went home to continue my job search that had begun several months earlier when I noticed things getting bad. I have looked at positions (again!) such as finance clerk, customer service rep, junior economist (social science degree), Web assistant, computer operator, etc. Once again it seems as though nobody really cares or appreciates what I have done or can do. Now, 3 months later, my mom are still on food stamps, I have $277 in the bank, and no jobs forthcoming. We’re once again living off of her social security and her part-time job. I really like the areas of Investments, Entrepreneur, and Computers. I hate customers service and waiting on people. Where do I go from here? Thanks.

Is opening an online business hard?

Right now, my best friend and I want to go into an online business. We just made this decision last month. We are currently in the planning stage of what online business to get into.

How can I share files online?

I am setting up a small business with 4 guys. We want to put and access files online, just like a company intranet (because we’re not all in the same location). What I’d like to do is be able to create a folder with a directory structure, and “easily” upload any type of file there (with some password security), and let the other guys access, modify, upload, etc. files as well.

Google Docs is ok, but I can’t upload picture files, etc. And I find Google Docs and Spreadsheets to be less powerful than Word.

Best case scenario is that i can simply double-click the files and open them directly, modify them, and close them/save them. Kind of like they’re located on a company server.

… oh, and I want it to be free.

Google Docs is close, and we’ll use that for now. But when you save files there (.docx, .pdf, etc), they’re converted to Google’s internal representation. I want them to be saved as the original format.

It’s been 8 years since our senior year in high school. We’re about to have a reunion in a couple weeks.

I was somewhat nerdy and skinny in high school, and used to try to talk to a couple of the “pretty” girls and they’d lift their noses at me like I was worthless. Pretty mean girls.

About 5 of the girls I remember that were rude and stuck-up to me are going to be there. I checked their MySpace pages, and 3 of them are overweight. 4 out of 5 of them work shitty jobs… one changes dirty diapers at a day care center, another bags groceries at the supermarket, one is a waitress, another one is a golddigger that jumps from guy to guy and doesn’t work. The one with a decent job is some kinda of data technician at a hospital.

I graduated from Standford and now hold a good position with a Singapore-based investment firm, and make over $150,000 a year, and plan on adding about $30,000 more to that income with this online business I just started. I live in a wealthy neighborhood as well. I also am no longer skinny as I have worked out ever since I got out of high school, and have a cut physique like a swimmer, and I date a girl that models for Ed Hardy. I drive a 2008 E350 Mercedes as well.

My question is, should I go in there and go out of my way to flaunt to these stuck-up girls what’s going on in my life, since they dissed me and humiliated me in high school? If so, how should I go about doing it? Any recommendations? I plan on bringing in my girlfriend for them to see as well, who looks about 1,000x better than any of them.

How long does it take for an order from Borders online bookstore to reach you?

I ordered a book from Borders online. They gave me a purchase and confirmation email the next day. Written in the report is a part which says: International standard delivery (DHL), 7-21 business days, along with a weird dhl tracking number that goes like this: #000000000. When i followed the link attached to the tracking number, the tracking program in the DHL site goes into an error saying the number does not exist.
