Your Questions About Direct Marketing Companies

Mandy asks…

How do you propose to market to an untapped market? What are the best ways to advertise?

I work for a direct marketing company and we sell heaters among other things. I have been asked to come up with ways to market to untapped markets. Should I go the traditional route newspaper ads, commercials and so forth or try to think of something outside of the box.

Jere answers:

Are you talking about portable heaters?

Untapped markets to me would be specific Niches. Elders/home health care. I.e. One person hot, one cold. Put heater on side of room of colder person (usually the one ill, or older)

Construction/contractors companies. Portable heaters for winter time work doing re-models.

Portable heaters for those in manufactured homes, cabins, etc.

How to reach? Speciality newspapers and publications.

Develop a brochure showing how heaters are more green than central heating …tap into green movement. Advertise this in newspapers. Just some quick ideas. Feel free to re-ask if I didn’t understand the product you are selling.

Also, consumer trade shows is a good well for direct marketers to sell

Helen asks…

What to wear to a job that I will be touring?

I had a phone interview for a direct marketing company and I’m scheduled to come in to tour around the place for different positions so they can see what position would work best for me. I’m not what sure what I should wear since I’m working at a facility for either a Machine Operator, computer work, or shipping/receiving.

I know I don’t have to dress to professional So I’m guessing I should just go in wearing some dark jeans and a button up shirt. Any help?

Jere answers:

I’d kick it up one notch — something other than jeans. Khakis maybe. Good luck!

Sandra asks…

What advice would you give someone going to an interview for a position in Advertising Sales?

I will interview with a successful direct mail marketing company looking for an Advertising Salesperson tomorrow…Any good words of wisdom?
I think asking for tips from others is an excellent way to improve my ability to impress an interviewer
I have a B.S. in Mass Communications with an emphasis in advertising. I am fresh out of college, have excellent references from my professors but no outside sales experience. I have worked at my campus’ bookstore (sales associate/receiving) and at a hotel front desk.
The company is very successful. I look forward to receiving their mailings because they are packed with coupons for restaurants, hotels, etc. They have expanded all over two states (starting from a small market.)

Jere answers:

Hi There,

The advise given above are mostly applicable in your scenario so I will not repeat them. Pay heed especially to Ad Man’s advise. However I would like to add a few pointers and hopefully you have a chance to do it.

$$$$$

Find out who the current clients are for the company and whom they are targeting next. If you know of any new prospects for the company this would be a good time to discuss.

Generally the company principals/seniors are proud of their achivement and their products. However they would want more. According to marslow, in the upper pyramid is self actualisation. Work on that pyramid. In short, get to know the company’s sucesses and USP and praise them. Tell them that you wish to be part of that team. A.K.A lay the butter.

A person that can interpret the needs of the company and job scope required is often look upon positively.

You can be strategic and “tell” them your weakness and let them “guide” you. Sort of be a firm but humble person. I am sure there will be many people before you with experience and similar skills. A little humility will go a long way.

Ask. Ask. Ask . Direct your questions to the industry they are in and situational scenario. This is a gambit that can pay dividents. Eg. Ask about the early days scenario and current scenario. Why and whom. Be an enthusiast about the industry and show energy. 🙂

Good luck mate. Please let me how it went. And in anticiapation of a great interview and appointment, Welcome to the Industry where sucess is a mind game.

You can come and go in the ad industry but you can never really leave.

Good luck

Maria asks…

How much longer can Glenn Beck stay afloat?

As of today, 62 companies have stopped their ads from running on Beck’s show. Every national company with a name you’d recognize is gone. What’s left are mostly far-right groups and direct marketing companies selling things like gold coins and discounted exercise equipment.
paulcondo: You are 100% right!

Jere answers:

You can all type of good rating but if you don’t make any money your gone

James asks…

how can i block junk mail from my post office box?

i get a minimal amount of personal mail in my po box but it is always filled with direct mail pieces, especially Jewel advertisements. I’ve spoke with USPS and they said to contact a direct marketing company to have my box removed from the list but I don’t know how to contact them. Any suggestions for stopping junk mail?

Jere answers:

Unfortunatly you can’t specify what type of mail that you want or don’t want. The Post Office is paid by mailers to deliver whatever they send to every mailbox, be it on the street or a PO Box. Sorry.

Jere answers:

Most state schools now offer at least some of their classes on-line. Check with your local community college or university. While not 100% will be on-line, you can probably do your first year or two with very few actual visits to the campus. Good luck, and please stay in touch and let us know what you find that works for you.

Your Questions About How To Do Business Taxes Online

Charles asks…

What’s all required to start and online resale business?

Me and a friend of mine are working with starting and online business and selling fourwheeler parts and accessories, riding apparrel, and possibly other stuff and eventually in a few years, depending how good it does, start up a local store and add more things to our line… What’s all required to start an online business? Business name registered/business license, tax number, etc…

Jere answers:

My husband is a member of an Internet marketing community called Wealthy Affiliate. It is like a school for internet marketers.
There are a lot of people in it that know what they are doing and everybody is trying to help each other. You can learn so much there. The forums, the support, the coaching, all the information they provide you with. You can find the right answers for most of your questions regarding starting an online business, advertising, etc. It is a great program.

Donald asks…

How much do I have to pay in taxes in Ontario on the income from my small business?

I registered my small business online this year and my revenue will most likely be around $15.000. I am unmarried and this is my only income. Thank you!
Thank you for the answer. THe business is composed of just myself. Supposing my netprofit is $15.000, could you give me an idea of the taxe deducted? Thank you agian.

Jere answers:

Total income taxes for a single self-employed individual in Ontario making $15,000 a year are $400. In addition, you will have to pay $1140 in CPP premiums.

You don’t need to deduct income tax from anything. When you file your tax return, you will complete form T2125 regarding your self-employed income. Just write a cheque for the balance you owe.

If you get to the point where you make enough money to pay $3000 in tax, CRA will ask you to make installment payments. But they’ll send you a bill. Don’t worry about it until they do.

David asks…

Maryland and IRS tax for online business?

I live in maryland and would like making an online shop (commissoning costume) as part time to help pay for school.

I know i have to pay 15.3% to irs for SE tax but:

1. what is the income tax i have to pay to the irs if i make about 12,000$ a year (net income)?

2. What the percent or amount of tax do i pay to the state of Maryland for the net income in #1?

3. Since it is part time, do i need a business license/permit/tader license or other legal document to sell online or at all?

4. When i pay estimate tax to the IRS, does the amount payed to the IRS cover both IRS and Maryland tax owed or do i have to pay sepereatly to IRS and MAryland?

5. What percent i shoud withhold to pay the IRS and Maryland tax? (15.3% SE tax + Income tax % + maryland tax % = ?)

I don’t have an accountant now since i’m plannign to only have a part time shop but if i must i will find one. If i need one, how much will they chrage for questioning service or service in general for me?

Jere answers:

1. This depends on your TOTAL income and filing status. Get the instructions to form 1040-ES to calculate this. If you are single, no dependents and this is your only income, you are in the 10% tax bracket. Tax on $12000 is $305 after exemptions and standard deduction.

2. Maryland has a nice estimated tax calculator at https://interactive.marylandtaxes.com/percentage/502.asp

3. See link below

4. Separately

5. See above

You also need to charge sales tax on sales to Maryland and New York.

Nancy asks…

How do I apply or begin my online business in Canada?

Jere answers:

Donna asks…

If I have an online book business on amazon do I have to pay taxes?

I’m pretty confused. If I have an online book business through Amazon, how does the tax thing work out? Can somebody attempt to explain this to me? If it’s through my parents credit card how will that work?? I’m so lost; I’m such a Noob when it comes to these kinds of things :

Jere answers:

Selling stuff on line through Amazon is the same as a storefront when it comes to income taxes. You buy stuff at one price and sell it at another. The difference is your gross income from which you deduct allowable expenses. In most cases the income and expenses are reported on Schedule C. This type of return is normally due on April 15th just the same as a wage earner. Keeping good records are essential as there will be no W-2 form to tell you what your income was. Knowledgeable if not professional help would be advisable if you have not file such a return before. The fact that your parents are involved may just confuse things a bit. The first question is this your business or theirs. If the account is in their name they well may need to account for the income on their return. All the more reason to consult with a tax professional.

Your Questions About Internet Business Models

John asks…

I need some suggestion to start a business.?

I am looking forward to start a business but confused what to do because of lack of funds and time. I am looking for some kind of internet based business model which i can maintain while working, traveling and at home.

People please suggest me something.

Jere answers:

You are the only one that can figure that out as every situation is unique. You need to find an unmet need that is also something you like to do. Complete a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis and write a business plan to prove that the business idea is workable. Go to http://sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/plan/writeabusinessplan/index.html or http://www.score.org/template_gallery.html for instructions on how to write a business plan and sample business plans.

William asks…

A very…”specific” question here.
I make custom or defined metal models to be sold online, I have an idea to start the store online, and have my own domain, but I’m looking for a good way to get the name known and actualy get a couple of sales?

I suggest you to read this website thoroughly:

I hope it helps you a lot!

Sandy asks…

people say i am flying to high or im crazy for wanting to start a internet business?

i am only 17 and when i tell people that i want to start a Software as a service (Software that is distributed on a web browser) Company, they always say something like “yea they are a lot of birds flying up north you should start flopping your wings” or “your Crazy” or “wow you have high Expectations” that really gets to me i mean, i know this business will be enough to sustain me it has a unique business model, and really innovative approach to software.
So what i´m trying to say here is that should i just leave it already?

Jere answers:

Don’t listen to them. I’m 17 as well, and I’ve been studying HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and Javascript completely on my own for the past 3 years with the intent of opening up a successful business. I’ve been told hundreds of times that I’m over my head. Simply don’t listen to them.

And DO NOT give up on something like this. Did you know that the creator of Facebook made it while he was in college, and its purpose was so he could just keep in contact with his college friends? Now look where it is!

Whatever your idea is, if you know that it’s unique and stands out from the rest of them, I say go for it. It’s never too early to invent something ingenious.

Nancy asks…

Hi everyone, what is your opinion about Internet banking?

Actually, I would like to design a new business model for the internet banking sector. This business model will be identical to Google’s and E-bay’s business models. The suggested business model will be based on the creation of customer communities for the exchange of financial services or products. Analyze your personal opinion about this business model.

Jere answers:

Online banking usually offers such features as:

Bank statements, with the possibility to import data in a personal finance program such as Quicken or Microsoft Money
Electronic bill payment
Funds transfer between a customer’s own checking and savings accounts, or to another customer’s account
Investment purchase or sale
Loan applications and transactions, such as repayments
Account aggregation to allow the customers to monitor all of their accounts in one place whether they are with their main bank or with other institutions.
There are a growing number of so-called virtual banks that operate exclusively online. These online banks have low costs compared to traditional banks and so they often offer higher interest rates.

Protection through single password authentication, as is the case in most secure Internet shopping sites, is not considered secure enough for personal online banking applications in some countries. Online banking user interfaces are secure sites (generally employing the https protocol) and traffic of all information – including the password – is encrypted, making it next to impossible for a third party to obtain or modify information after it is sent. However, encryption alone does not rule out the possibility of hackers gaining access to vulnerable home PCs and intercepting the password as it is typed in (keylogging). There is also the danger of password cracking and physical theft of passwords written down by careless users.

Many online banking services therefore impose a second layer of security. Strategies vary, but a common method is the use of transaction numbers, or TANs, which are essentially single use passwords. Another strategy is the use of two passwords, only random parts of which are entered at the start of every online banking session. This is however slightly less secure than the TAN alternative and more inconvenient for the user. A third option, used in many European countries and currently being trialled in the UK is providing customers with security token devices capable of generating single use passwords unique to the customer’s token (this is called two-factor authentication or 2FA). Another option is using digital certificates, which digitally sign or authenticate the transactions, by linking them to the physical device (e.g. Computer, mobile phone, etc). While most online banking in the United States still uses single password protection, the FDIC has issued regulations requiring that banks implement more secure authentication mechanisms by the end of 2006.

Banks in many European countries (including the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium) are offering online banking for e-commerce payments directly from customer to merchants.

Your Questions About The Real Biz

Mandy asks…

How do I start a cleaning service that deals strictly with newly constructed homes?

I live near Atlanta and I want to do home clean up and garbage removal.(To get the home ready to be sold or rented) How do I do that? Where do I start? I have a plan I have flyers and I also have bussiness cards. I have given them to Real Estate Co.’s, now what? Any ideas would be great..

Jere answers:

Purchase supplies
Get bonded and insured
Send letters outlining your service with a biz card to residential contractors and construction companies

You might want to do same with property management companies

Betty asks…

How to start the home loan process?

My husband and I are just starting to think about purchasing a home. However, I don’t know how to get started. Should we go find a house we like first? Should we call a realtor? We probably won’t be buying within the next 90 days. It is more like a longer term goal- maybe 4-8 months in the future or even longer. We just want to know what kind of loans we can get and what all of our options are.
Should I be talking to lenders or real estate agents? Where should we start?

Jere answers:

I advise my clients to talk to several local lenders and have them pre qualify you. That way you know what you can afford and you can think about the programs each has to offer and make a selection based on what is best finanically for your family. Next make a list of the things your family “has to have”, and a list of “would like to have” in your home. Before you are ready, try visiting some open houses in the area you like. Be honest with the agent that you are just looking for now. If they ask for your name/number etc, simple tell you aren’t ready to share that information. Ask them interview type questions, how long in biz, what they know about the neighborhoods, etc. If you find one you like and feel comfortable with, then you decide if you wish to share your information and ask them to help you. Some will needle you to no end, but just be firm. You really are doing your homework on them at this point. Once you are ready, select the agent, call them to schedule an appointment to discuss what your needs are, give them your lists and give them a chance to schedule some showings. You are in no way stuck with an agent. If you aren’t satisfied, tell them and why, if they don’t correct it, then tell them your relationship is over. And find another agent. If you aren’t comfortable enough to ask questions about each step, even some you may feel are dumb, then they aren’t the right agent for you. I’ve been in this biz for nearly 20 years and I haven’t handled every scenario and don’t have all the answers. But if you ask me, I’ll share what I do know and tell you if I don’t know.

I think I have rambled on enough. This should be a good start for you. I wish you all the best! And thanks for being in the market soon! We need al the buyers we can get.

Ken asks…

How to not clean my fish tank as often?

Okay thats my question but i know i have to every once and a while so dont yell at me cause i know i need to change water and stuff but if i buy real plants and have a undergravel filter and a really good about filter will i have to clean it less? Its a 18 gallon tall tank. And what are benafits to having real plants and is it hard to take care of?

Jere answers:

Plants will consume some of the nitrates, but like was said, you still have to do the weekly water changes. If you feed your fish, they will poop it out. The only way to get this out of the tank is by you doing water changes.

Undergravel filters can cause more trouble than help – get rid of it.

I like having real plants because some of my fish nibble on them, they compete with the algae and help to keep it under control. When I first started back in the fish keeping biz, I used only plastic plants because I didn’t want to struggle with a possible snail infestation. But I finally caved and started planting. And of course, got the snails.

Once you have plants established in your tank, it’s very easy to maintain them. The only thing you have to do is trim them back when they grow out of control.

Helen asks…

why do people say mp3s ruined the music biz?

i know the quality is not as good but how does that affect the industry. why are there so many talentless people making soulless music.

i mean u can take a good sound quality kesha song against a mp3 elton john song and u can still tell who the real musician is…

so why is format an issue?

Jere answers:

Realistically they mean one of two things, but they’re both about profit for the music industry.

People downloading music illegally will not buy a CD any more, so less money for the music industry.

People downloading from ITunes can pick and choose the songs they want at 99c. In the past the closest thing to that was paying $10 for a single.

One upside for consumers is artists now have to tour more, or they die off. No more releasing an album with one chart topper, and 12 junk songs and selling it for $30. And since the majority of artists get more money from touring than record sales, it’s good for them too.

Find and read Bonjovi’s recent comments if you want to see why some artists think the music industry has been ruined.

Your Questions About Doing Business Online

Jenny asks…

How come nigerians have to talk so much when doing business online? That makes me Fustrated. No need for all t

Jere answers:

They are scammers, duh.

Laura asks…

Do you need a business license to have a home based online business?

What are some reasons that you need a business license for an online business? Are you required to have one in Los Angeles, CA if you have a seller’s permit and are going to be doing all your business online on your own website?

Jere answers:

Since the internet is not regulated by any one state or country a business license is not required to have a exclusively internet based business, however many people who run internet based businesses will get a license to apply for a DBA which will give them access to many services only available to businesses most importantly the ability to setup their own merchant account and take credit cards payments without the use of third parties. Still others might setup S-Corps or an LLC simply for the tax benefits when they start making a decent amount of money through their business. The choice is really yours if you want to get a business license.

Ken asks…

What type of business should I start online?

I’d like to get everybody’s opinion, for I’m not sure what type of business would be best. Personally, I started my business online in Donald Trump’s company. It’s a network marketing company, and I love what I’m doing. However, I’m wondering what you think is the best!

Jere answers:

You need to find your passion what you enjoy doing the most and do it, if you do something you like it will be fun not a job about business is the same

Maria asks…

Do I need to register an online business with the federal government?

I’ve been doing some small scale business online offering graphic design for the past couple of years. Are the tax laws the same for an online service as a regular small business? I make way less than 10,000 a year.

Jere answers:

All you need to do is report the earnings on your Taxes THAT IS ALL.

Sandy asks…

How many small business online retailers are there in the US?

I am doing market research to see the potential market for our online business services which caters to online small business retailers.

Your Questions About Email Marketing Software

Robert asks…

What’s the best email marketing software available?

I’m looking for something around $500.

Jere answers:

If you’re a legitimate email marketer, i.e., not a spammer, then Responsys would be a good choice. Their software allows for customization and personalization of the emails you send out. It also keeps track of how many people opened the email, clicked on links within the email, if they prefer text vs. Html, etc.

Daniel asks…

Which is the best email marketing software?

We are need to send bulk mail through e-mail as newsletter. I have been looking around the net for the details but found some but having a hard time seeing which is best in price and features. I want to get software which sends mail for e-mail marketing.

Jere answers:

Software-http://justdosofts.com/

Thomas asks…

Email marketing software?

I run a small catering business in Orlando. I have a huge list of email for potential clients, which i purchased from trusted source. I am looking for some cost effective email marketing software to manage my email campaign.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Jere answers:

Be careful – it sounds like you are getting into spamming, in which case you’ll end up with a lot of irritated people, a rotten reputation and no business. How do other similar businesses in your area operate? Advertising in papers, magazines, flyers with menus and prices delivered to potential customers? Ultimately word-of-mouth recommendations are the best.

Sandy asks…

do you know a free software to make an email marketing campaign for a 00000 database?

i have a database for my customers 00000 and i really want to know if there is a software to manage my email marketing campaign? is there anyone who tried or knows about a free software for this purpose a software that sends emails and gives statistics?

Jere answers:

I’m not sure.

You can give a try with aweber or ActiveCampaign.

Thank you

Your Questions About Business Online Services Group

Nancy asks…

What happens when you can’t pay your small business loan?

I am looking to form an LLC to buy an existing business. I am looking to secure a loan. My biggest fear, as anyone’s would be, if the business fails, what happens to the loan? Its a retail business so there will be assets that can be sold but what if its not enough? can they come after my personal assets? Even if they are not put up as collatteral? also, will my personal credit history be ruined if my LLC goes bankrupt and defaults on a loan?

Jere answers:

A true business credit card is a line of credit that is taken in the name of the business, under the business’ credit. Activity, whether good or bad, is reflected on your business’ credit report through D&B and other financial institutions, and the liability for any debts incurred and bills owed is with the business.

However, some companies out there offer “business” credit cards which they require a person guarantee for. These institutions will often ask for a personal guarantee, and will almost always ask for a social security number from the person applying for the card. If this is the case, the credit card is not a business credit card, but is simply a personal credit card which is used for the business. The business is not liable for bills and debts – you are.

When applying for a credit card for your business, watch out for areas asking for your SSN (and not your TaxID or EIN) and be wary of any credit card that asks for a personal guarantee. By ensuring that your credit card is in the name of your business, you can help to build your business’ credit, while avoiding creating problems with your own.

Many companies offer a list of credit cards that are issued under the business name only. Those lists typically run $300-$900, depending on the quality of the information inquiring. I would suggest starting your search online via google or yahoo. Search for “strong business credit” (just like that in quotes) to find services that sell the information.

Good luck,

Mark asks…

What do you think about advertising in social networks?

For a small business , do you think advertising in social network like orkut help to reap profits?
How does advertising in social networks work ?

Jere answers:

Hey,

(Bare with me on this one, I’ll answer your questions and share some damn good techniques)

I own my own marketing company and have been involved in the internet industry for a long time now so am quite clued up/experienced in pretty much all forms of web promotion and marketing.

The answer to the question is your profit depends on what you’re selling, how well your selling it and who to. Social network advertising can see you reap profits or sew losses due to high advertising costs and low conversions, but they are fantastic sources for traffic!!

The reason social network advertising is so effective is that they are places where countless amounts of millions of people go on a daily basis, like everyone watching MTV at the same time, it’s maximum exposure for your brand services. The other major benefit of advertising on social networking sites is that you can highly target the ads you place there.

Rather than traditional advertising, which will be viewed by a random audience, advertisers can use these networks to target their ads at a very specific audience; you can target it in many ways such as geographic location, sex, age range, gender, single, married etc.

This way the adds are most successful and if it is an online business/service you’re promoting then it’s a good idea if you use these services, although be warned, it can be very expensive (Depending on the size and popularity of the network).

They generally run off what’s called a CPM system (Cost per thousand impressions). This means that for every time your advert pops up on a web page it’s classed as one impression, for every time it reaches 1000 impressions the site will charge you the CPM premium (Again the cost will depend on the size and popularity of the network).

This can be a very costly approach if you are a small business as most of the major web 2.0 sites have so many members thus having many millions of pages for your advert to pop up on, they also generally have a minimum spend which can be quite high (Facebook currently has a $50,000 monthly minimum investment for add banners).

I’d look at starting a page/fake profile on the social networks and drive the traffic to your site, it’s called SMO (Social media optimization) and it works a f*****g treat, believe you me!!

I am a keen user of social networks and have utilized their power for my own SEO and revenue generating benefit. Create a fake profile and invite as many of your target audience as you can, you’ll be surprised how many people will accept the request!

You can do this very well on sites like Facebook using their ‘Groups’ feature. If you’re selling games consoles, for example, do a search within the social network for ‘PS3/Xbox 360/Play Station’ etc and then click on the ‘Groups’ tab to seclude the results to groups only. Have a look at the groups that you’re left with.

The members of these groups, often hundreds of thousands, are the people who you know know that are interested in your product/niche. Go through the members and request a ton of them to be your friends, this is called building a list and is where most online services make over half of their sales (Using backend sales).

All you need to do then is create a group of your own about your service/product (The name of the group needs to be eye catching and inventive), in your fake profile, then invite all of your ‘Friends list’ (Prospective buyers) to the group (When I say friends list, by the way, I’m talking about 2,000+ friends in your list, send as many friends requests as you possibly can).

This will then trigger a viral reaction in the form of ‘the butterfly effect’ and spread your brand/service/website through the network where the members view your site through a third party referral (The group invitation).

Referrals from a third party (the friend who invited them to your group) or an expert in the field is always trusted by prospectives as they have no reason to lie.

There are three main objectives here:
1- To drive targeted traffic to your site
2- Create brand awareness for your website, free of charge
And the most important part
3- To get high PR/authority links back to your site (Bookmark the pages where you’ve left these backlinks, it will only increase the authority of the page that is pointing back to your site)

——————————————————————————–

You don’t need to advertise in social networks, if you’re willing to put some effort in you’ll reap the rewards, trust me. Utilize web 2.0 to work for you; use sites such as Squidoo, YouTube, Blogger, WordPress to name just a few and cover the internet with your content rather than spending on one add in one social network.

A little heads up if you do decide to use social networking advertising- Add banners are pretty much the worst form of web promotion, the CTR (Click through rate) is very low and not very cost effective at all, look for another form of advertising withing the network. HOT TIP: Text link ads are far more effective than premium banner ads!

If you are looking for a unique social network to advertise on I’d advise you to keep an eye out for the ‘Global Covenant’, a massive new UK project that has totally redesigned the social networking concept, a welcomed evolution of social networking; even the BBC and Sky are involved inside the project. Pretty exciting stuff!!

I’ve been helping a global client base increase their profits, traffic, conversions, performance etc for a long time now, if you want to talk to me through Skype and have a brainstorm or need help with marketing strategies feel free to add me (Skype username- Internet.Marketer, Marcus Hill, UK) and we’ll have a chat (free of charge by the way).

Hope this info gave you a little insight to web 2.0 advertising and has answered your questions.

All the best!!!

Laura asks…

What’s the best way to promote a new online business?

I’m planning on having a website, but would it also benefit me to join Facebook ??? Or would that just be waisted time and energy?? what does this social networks do that my website cannot do?? if that IS the way to go, suggest what a better way for a online business promotion ?

Jere answers:

“I think Facebook is a tremendous business promotion tool. It’s a effective way to promote. And virally expand the word about yr business. Use your personal profile, then make groups and share your input by sending messages about your bsuness, you will get the replies from your friend and groups,it will help your business to promote. But all it takes a lot time to customize.you may do all in a diffrent ways. So you may take services through the internet; companies may assist you in-place, One is magicsolv.com offering quality services for all your business needs. So don’t suffer out your business and ask them helping U!!”

John asks…

How do I set up my online homework business?

What is the best way to reach the most people online to offer homework assistance to students?

Jere answers:

The best (and incidentally cheapest) way of reaching students is through facebook. Create a group on facebook related to your service, include information about your service and send it to every student that you know on your facebook account. It’ll spread to more people than you can imagine. Quicker than in any other time in history.

You’re lucky. Social Networks are the quickest way to send spread information in history to date and your target clients are the largest users of Social Networks. It’s a golden opportunity.

Best of luck

James asks…

If I want to run multiple businesses using them as dba’s under the parent company, what do I need to do?

In other words, I want to run several companies. Do I need to file each one seperately or can I group them all under one name and give the other companies dba’s?

Jere answers:

The best thing to do would be to file the parent company first. You probably want to set this up as an LLC, or a Limited Liability Company so that your personal assets aren’t tied to the company.

Once you have your main LLC, you can literally set up as many DBAs as you want for the individual company branches. Keep in mind that everything will still be one company with this model. If you file an LLC for Tom’s Baking Supplies and then a DBA for Tom’s Crusts, another DBA for Tom’s Fillings and one for Tom’s Toppings, they are all still one company. And under that model, if Tom’s Toppings started losing money, that money would come from Tom’s Baking Supplies, LLC.

But the nice thing about DBAs is that if you have good business models and cash flow, you can certainly brand individual services or products under individual company names. I have a client that I work with who does construction. He has one LLC, but separate DBAs for his framing business, his roofing business and his home remodeling business. This works great for him because he can focus marketing materials on each business segment with a company name, logo, website etc. That is specific to each of those different lines of work.

There are several online resources for filing incorporations and DBAs. You will need to file the Incorporation first, before the DBAs. Depending on your state, that can take a few days or a few weeks. Www.clickandinc.com and www.dba-filings.com can walk you through the process and charge very reasonable rates. They also have good customer service and live support during the day to answer any questions.

You can also file DBAs without having a corporation behind them, but then they are tied to you as an individual and sole proprietor. Under this model, your personal financial assets WOULD be directly tied to your company, and all income would have to be taxed as self-employment income. This works great for people that have a consulting business and don’t want to put their social security number on tax forms (a personal DBA allows you to use a Federal Tax ID Number). It’s not as safe a bet for people that run businesses with employees.

Your Questions About Internet Business Phone Service

Sharon asks…

Can I cancel AT&T Yahoo phone Internet, but still use my same Yahoo Email address via Comcast’s Internet?

We currently have DSL service via AT&T / Yahoo. If we drop our hard-line AT&T phone service, can we still use our same Yahoo email addresses via the new Comcast Cable Co.’s Internet service? It doesn’t seem logical; however the Comcast guy is trying to sell it to us this way. We don’t want to make the switch until we know for certain. Our email accounts are used for business.

Jere answers:

Yahoo addresses are free, so you own it forever, regardless of the ISP.

David asks…

Is Cox Digital phone service an internet based phone service?

I get lost in the wording on their website right now and their customer service phone # closes at 9p.m. We have had magic jack (totally sucks! major thumbs down there) and are needing to have some kind of internet based phone service where we can make unlimited long-distance phone calls all day long for our at-home business. Any feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. on Cox Digital phone service?

On a side note, Vonage is our last resort right now. Please just advise on Cox if you have any info. pertaining to it. Thanks!

Jere answers:

Yes, the box they install to provide your phone service also doubles as a modem.

Donna asks…

Can I deduct my phone and internet for my part time business?

I am working part time as an independent customer service rep. I am classified as a business owner as per Canada Revenue. Since I am working part time, can I deduct the full amount of my phone and internet from my taxes or can I only deduct a portion? I work from home about 4 hours a day.

Jere answers:

Got to read the fine print from Canada Revenue. In the US, such shared resources would only be partly deductible, and you might need to produce documentation (log books, etc) to justify the deduction.

Rules in Canada may differ, but I’d be surprised if they made it too easy.

James asks…

How can I get Windstream to disconnect my phone and internet service?

I closed my business on February 8, 2011. I have been trying since that date to get Windstream to disconnect phone and internet service.

They asked me to send them a letter on company letterhead asking that the service be disconnected since they cannot accept a phone call asking that it be turned off. I informed them that I did not have company letterhead, so they said I could simply send an e-mail to them from my listed e-mail address and that would work. I sent the e-mail and received no response.

I called my rep and asked for help. She called the company and asked that service be disconnected. They did not respond.

My Rep also asked me to send a letter to them. I did send the letter and received no response.

I received a call from Windstream asking for payment and I explained that the business was closed and that service needs to be disconnected and that I did not owe them a balance. They said I needed to send an e-mail to them. I did. That e-mail did not get a response.

I was again contacted by them and was told I needed to write on my invoice that I wanted service disconnected. I did send the invoice with notations about disconnecting service and that did not get any response except to get another bill.

The latest bill now totals almost $1,200 that I do not owe. The business is closed for three months and I cannot seem to get them to stop service. Any suggestions? I have jumped through every hoop they tossed at me with no responses. It should not be this difficult to get service turned off.

Any help would be grateful.

Mandy asks…

How to save money on cable & internet service?

Seems like I’m paying so much for cable and internet. I’d like to keep my current phone service because I have 2 phone numbers on one line that I doubt another co. will replicate (one # is used for a small business).

Any ideas on how to save money on cable & internet service?

Jere answers:

Do you really need that 2nd number? If not, cancel it.

The phone company usually has a package deal if you get multiple services from them at once – like phone, DSL (internet) and even TV (usually repackaged satellite service.) However they usually just pitch you a low initial price for the first 2-12 months. After that, the prices go up.

However, in many cases, you can renegotiate your prices just by asking the customer service rep. On the phone. Companies would rather keep you as a customer, even if it means giving you a slightly lower price.

Your Questions About Email Marketing Tips

Maria asks…

How safe or unsafe is it to sell your home via land contract and move out of state? Any tips???

We currently live in the metro Detroit Mi area and the real estate market is HORRIBLE!!! I received an email with someone interested in buying our house via a land contract or lease with option to buy. I first said no and then my girlfriend told me I was crazy and I should take it. My husband got a job out of state so we need out soon! ANY advice on how to go about doing this safely would help….

Jere answers:

Get an attorney first.. Someone to read the legal garbage so you can make a better decision…you can’t afford not to…

Sandy asks…

Any tips for getting employers to email me back!?

So I have been doing some hardcore craigslist job hunting for the last three weeks. Jobs like receptionist, assistant teacher, customer service rep (I have a BA, and over 3 yrs experience in retail/customer service and education) I know it’s a tough job market out there- i live in Chicago, too… But my god, i’ve sent out about 50 resumes and got maybe one e-mail back…

What can I do to stand out?? I never know if I should be friendly and candid in the email, say a little bit about why I want the job, or just straight up professional with only the resume attached…

Jere answers:

I am having the same exact problem, but not just with craigslist, with everywhere! Not one single e-mail back except for scams and not one call. No one even wants to interview me. Craigslist sucks because they don’t usually list what company it is and they use that anonymous email service so there is no way to follow up with them. I’m sorry that I can’t answer your question, just wanted you to know you are not alone in your misery 🙂

Carol asks…

Can you help my company get recognition?

Hi, I am working with a few friends to create a video game. Our company is called Wired Vision. We are trying to attract attention to our project so that when we release the game, we will have better sales. Please help us by offering suggestions and tips on marketing for a business. It is really a cool idea, and you can email me at wiredvision.org@gmail.com for more information, follow us on Twitter @thewiredvision, or like us on Facebook @Wired Vision’s First Video Game. Thanks in advance!

Jere answers:

First create a Facebook Fan Page for the company. Since there are billions of people who use Facebook daily, your Fan Page can easily go VIRAL!!!

How will you market that page? Quite easily- with a free website tool called ‘Like Engine’

Basically, Like Engine is a Social Network exchange tool that will increase your Facebook likes, and even Twitter followers, Google +1’s, and YouTube views.

Like Engine is located at www.RiverCityWeb.org/engine

James asks…

Looking for some good advice and tips about how to get into the Stock Market…?

I have saved up a thousand dollars, and was thinking about putting it into the stock market. I was wondering should I go with an E-Trade, or TDAMERITRADE account or just go pay a stock broker?… and Also if you would have any advice on what some good stocks would be for someone looking to buy and sell, not staying in it for the long haul… If you do not want to put the stocks on here, then please leave me your email address and I will email you… Thanks…

Jere answers:

This is not a wise time to get into the stock market.
We’re in a financial crisis.

Laura asks…

i m a small scale invester in equity market is some one gives me some useful tips to earn in interday trading?

would some one guide me abt intraday trading to earn some from selling and buying the equities. pls add my email id anillgupta83@yahoo.co.in and pls guide me abt trading.
Thanx

Jere answers:

Intraday trading is very difficult. The one thing that you want to be sure to do is to trade with the trend — the short-term and longer-term trend.

Swing trading is much, much easier. I took down your email and I’ll send you a site that shows you how to find good swing trades.

Your Questions About The Real Biz

Mary asks…

What is a FUN and FREE site to play blackjack?

I am a beginner and want to play online (not with real money though) to get used to the game. Any suggestions?

Jere answers:

Just googled your query and found a list of free blackjack game provider, check it out :-

http://casino.bodog.co.uk/
http://www.777.com/play-blackjack.html
http://www.funny-games.biz/black-jack.html
http://www.hitorstand.net/

As these all are free game provider so you can choose any one as par your interest but for real money gaming choose nicely the website for playing.

George asks…

How can I make money from home?

Like a small biz i can start. Nothing too big, but just for a little income. None of that online survey stuff though please.

Jere answers:

Check this website, I read many people are making good money out of it
and it is %100 real as it shows you the exact process to do that and be careful as there are many scam programs that steal your money.

Chris asks…

Are there any good reliable sites where you can find cheap cars for sale?

is www.autosource.biz a legit site? or will you end up paying more money for the repairs than the actual car 😛
HELP!

Jere answers:

The website appears legit. You may actually get a good car that you can pay to repair and still be ahead.

However, four warnings:

First, most such cars go to a body shop that specializes in fixing wrecks and reselling them. They will be able to fix them cheaper than you can, and will out bid you. If you outbid them, and then pay retail for the fixes, you will loose.

Second, you have no idea how much it will cost to repair the car, as you have no experience doing this. It is possible that you can buy a drivable car that has only cosmetic damage cheaply enough that you won’t mind driving a wrecked car, since a lot of older cars get totaled by relatively minor cosmetic damage. If you are looking for a really cheap driver, and you don’t mind a crunched fender or two, check out the site.

Third, if the car is mechanically sound but crunched, you will be bidding against salvage yards that can sell the engine, the transmission, air conditioning compressor, transfer case, glass, etc. In many cases, a wrecked car has parts value several times what it is worth as a transportation vehicle.

Fourth, and final, keep in mind that the car you get will have a “Salvage” title, making it very difficult to sell in the future, even after it has been fixed up.

So, if you plan to drive the car in to the ground, and don’t mind a bent car, you may find a real bargain. But, forget buying one and fixing it up. You will be for big trouble.

Good luck!

Helen asks…

Is there a web site video downloader like Real Player for Mac?

I like to use Real Player to download videos off youtube so that they are on my hard drive. But it doesn’t work for Mac. Can someone help, best answer gets 10 points?

Jere answers:

You may try vixy.net, it’s an online video converter that can download youtube video to computer for free, it works for windows and mac, here is a step by step guide about it
http://www.youtubetoipod.biz/guide/free-youtube-to-ipod.html
If you still have problem, feel free to contact me.

Mark asks…

How much does it cost to change your first name?

I don’t want to change my whole first name, I just want to add something before it. How much does this cost, and does anyone know a real website to get started on?

Jere answers:

You can download the forms you need online, just download them from a credible, updated legal forms database such as http://www.legalformsbank.biz/namechange.asp

Once you’ve filled in the forms then follow their filing instructions to properly file the legal name change form. Be prepared to pay the courthouse for the filing fee and the notary for their service. Together it usually ends up being around $70 or more, but it depends on which state your in.

Your Questions About Business Online Courses

Daniel asks…

What are the best free online Accounting and Business Law courses?

(must be free)

Jere answers:

May be this site can help you
http://www.sgpak.com

Ken asks…

POLL: The future of business training courses – online or offsite?

Fascinated to know whether at times like these, the small business community is more interested in online services like http://the845club.com for their business training or whether they think face to face, off site training – perhaps over two or three days is preferred…

Maybe there’s a place for both? Be really interested in your views.

Jere answers:

If they can get the cheating element out of it then it would be good. But to many ways to cheat not doing it face to face.

James asks…

I want to take an online business course, is there financial aid for online ed? Where do u start?

I’ve never gone to college or dealt with financial aid before, so I am lost! Can anyone tell me where to begin?

Jere answers:

At the college I have attended financial aid does count for on line classes. Start with FASFA and get a pin number and get it emailed to you it will come in three days (DONT LOOSE IT, you will need it for life) and after that fill out your FASFA. And at the end it will tell you your EFC which is what they say you can afford to pay in one year for college. It will get sent to the college you choose and then they should mail you a financial award letter telling you what you can get. After FASFA there are unsubsidized and subsidizes loans also. Once you do FASFA come back on here and I can help you more if you need it. I do this for friends and family (I have done 6 peoples now) because people at the colleges dont seem to want to help anyone and if they do they tell you to go to the internet and you knew that.

Jenny asks…

name few online business courses in Malaysia.?

Jere answers:

Check in google
there are tons of them

Sandy asks…

Which laptop is ‘better 4 me’ Macbook or Sony (Mac vs PC)? To be used for small business and online courses?

The macbook is smaller screen (13 vs 15 inch). The Sony has fewer ghz (1.6) Macbook has 2 ghz. The new bootcamp patch from Mac allows the Mac to run XP (good for my small business stuff). Does anyone know if bootcamp will allow Microsoft’s new ‘Vista’ operating system? I’m on a limited budget and this is a bigger purchase for me.

Jere answers:

Mac’s wont run vista until they develop the “hack” for it.

Mac’s are fine for usual usage, but if you have the software for your small business that’s on windows i would suggest going for the sony (unless you have software for the mac, which you should go the other way)

This control isn’t about free market –

its about not providing the truth through a monopoly of media

FOX News -?- American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact.?

Does this quote from Henry Wallace (former VP under Roosevelt) make you think of FOX News, the so-called Republican Party members, and the last Bush Administration…?
————–
“The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism… They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.”

(Quote from: http://www.fascismusa.com/ )

Jere answers:

Fox makes it up as it goes along. They never let facts get in the way.

It is without doubt, the greatest source of disinformation in the world today. It even beats the N.Korean state media.

Nancy asks…

Is the US economic crisis a direct result of no longer being self-sufficient?

Have the corporations created their own demise by not looking to the U.S. market to supply their workers and create products for our own nation?

China is feeling the economic crisis at this point and is looking at ways to become self-sufficient rather than relying upon exports for their economic survival.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20081110/wl_time/anewdealforchina;_ylt=AgmqB1f3ov9I55Uhlmekwr6KOrgF

Should the USA be doing the same thing? Wouldn’t our nation be better off becoming self reliant rather than depending on imports and cheap labor from other nations for our goods?

Can we regain a stable economic environment by choosing to buy products made in the USA rather than the cheaper brand? Would paying a little more at the store now save us from a Depression by bringing jobs back to American soil and putting people back to work who have lost their jobs to foreign nations?

Jere answers:

That’s how it is supposed to work. That’s how our country became a supper power. By making our own products and buying our own products. It is the biggest failure of this country’s to stop doing that and for our government to allow it!

James asks…

Abortion. Do you know it’s history?

In 1916, Sanger founded the Planned Parenthood Federation of America—which called for legalized abortion. Her anti-family, pro-promiscuity, pro-contraceptive and pro-abortion views slowly grew in popularity and acceptance throughout the first half of the century.

In 1939, Sanger outlined her plan to eliminate the Black community.

http://www.cwfa.org/articledisplay.asp?id=1416&department=CWA&categoryid=life

Planned Parenthood was recently in the news for marketing abortion to blacks and accepting donations directed just for blacks. Why would Obama support this?

http://www.laadvocate.com/Advocate3.pdf
Westhill, are you admitting that abortion is used for contraception or are you just confused by the staight facts? The question was on abortion, not contraception.

Jere answers:

It isn’t their fault Lydia. They have been taught in Public Education that babies are sub-human. Just as Margret’s idol Adolph Hitler taught the German children that Jews were sub-human.

You can’t reason with them and you can’t change their minds. It is programmed into their being just as welfare is.

Your Questions About Business Online Services

Mary asks…

What legal information do I need for my startup business?

I am starting an online service to match those in need of residential services with the contractors who actually do the work. The service is free for the homeowners in need of service, and the leads that go to the contractors are charged at 5-10 dollars per lead. The website consist of a form where the user enters personal information about their home and their project requirements. I do have an SSL certificate in place on my server to protect peoples’ personal information.

What legal documentation is necessary for a business like the one described above?

Jere answers:

You will need to file with your state to collect sales tax on in-state sales and get a “doing business as” certificate. If you want to incorporate you will have to take care of that, but it is not necessary or important right now.

Sandra asks…

How much equity do I give up to investors in my start-up?

I am starting an online business (services website) that requires an investment of 130,000. I am the guy who came up with the idea and who’ll be the first CEO for the company (I will get a salary for this). I have 3 interested investors, and their contributions will add up to the US$ 130,000. We are negotiating what percentage of the business they’ll have. How much should I give them? How much should I keep? I am asking for 38% for my contribution and 62% goes to them. Am I right?

Jere answers:

By doing that you automatically give up control of the company since they own 62% of it, meaning they can fire you anytime they want. Be careful here, there are several books available for people starting their own companies, I would consult one before giving away this much equity in your new company.

Chris asks…

Question about postage for businesses could you help?

Hi there,

Our business is an online buyback service and we are sorting out a few things we have to do regarding our postage.

We want our customers to be able to send us their books in return for cash, so we will be sending them a letter which includes a mail bag for them to post their books to us.

What do we need to do to ensure that we pay the postage on the books beforehand, rather than our customers paying for the postage? We want this to be a free part of the service.

Any help you can provide would be great.

Many thanks!

Jere answers:

CT.postmaster in your city post office he will guide you.

William asks…

Online Lead Generation is this more effective than telemarketing?

Telemarketing is one way of getting leads for my business. Are Online Lead Generation Service more effective and efficient?

Jere answers:

There are some really great tools online to help people find your website and convert them into customers. Hubspot has a great track record and plenty of good tools to get you started. In my opinion, it’s a better use of your time to create the tools to bring people to you rather than you calling and taking people through a process that can be automated. Cheers.

Helen asks…

What is the best online payment service for a middleman?

I want to start a middleman service and I’ll have to deal with money(online). What service is the cheapest to use. I will need to hold the money from client B(buyer) until I can validate the items of client A(seller) and then I release the money to client A. My business is not US based and I will work with people from all around the world. What is the service for online money transfer with lowest or no fees involved for cross-country payments?

Thank you

Your Questions About How To Do Business Online

Mary asks…

how do you advertise your own business online?

my friend has a Roofing business
and he would like to some how advertise it
online.
what ways are they’re to do that?

thank you for your answers and God bless.

Jere answers:

When trying to attract local customers/clients online, it is important to focus on the importance of content structure. Building a website that is targeted at your local market can generate great attraction to your friends business. I use a web host that teaches how to attract local customers through keyword searches. This brings natural targeted traffic from the search engines. You can find a great example from a web page built around this topic http://localbiz.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html

Since you’re just starting out, it’s nice to start with eBay, eBid, etc. Where you don’t have to worry about 1, 2 (in the list). EBay also helps with 4. Because you’ll get a ppl looking at your jewelry. Good Luck!

Your Questions About Doing Business Online World

Sandy asks…

How can I get into the business world with no experience?

I’m 17, Earning my associates in foundations of business. I dont live in a big city and i go to a local college but i do it online.the college is a 2 hours drive from me. So what can I do? Im very passionate about becoming a business woman.
I don’t think internships are a possibility since I do it online and dont live in a big city…

Jere answers:

Start in the mail room.

Ruth asks…

Why is it allowed to have scam programs online doing business?

I just want to know why programs like paypermails.com are allowed to be online just playing games with people and having us wasting time? These programs promised to pay you after a job is done that they require of you But when the job is done they do not pay.

Isn’t it illegal to put someone to work and do not pay them when the job is finish in the real world?
If yes, then why again are these programs allowed to do so?

Jere answers:

Keep in mind that the internet is a GLOBAL structure. There is no ‘internet police force’. There’s literally MILLIONS of scam websites. No one or no agency can track them all down. The scammers pop up and then disappear and then pop up again with a different website name. There is simply not enough resources for nations to keep track of all websites. The authorities already have their hands full trying to track down ‘real world’ murderers, rapists, drug dealers, terrorists, etc.
—————-
There really aren’t any legit ‘online jobs’ sites. They are ALL just playing games with naive people. One needs to realize that FACT and forget about ever making money online. The internet isn’t like a magical money-making portal.

Jenny asks…

Online Business Name Ideas?

I am hoping someone could please help me come up with a unique, un-taken business name for a online backup company.

It will be aimed at Home Users and Students. I am able to offer fantastic backup packages which are BETTER than some of the big-name players out their.

So i really need to have a good hitting name which people will remember and want to use.

Sadly I have been trying to come up with some ideas but nothing has come close to what i want, some of mine:
– Backup Anchor
– W W Online Backup *world-wide*
– Backup Fibre
– Backup Panther
– Always On Backup

Just not getting a good hitter like:

– DropBox
– Skydrive

I really do need some good general ideas from different people for this business – I look forward to your help and comments.

Many Thanks,

Jere answers:

Packaged back up? Or lightback? Maybe, YOUR backup? Packaged benefits? Heavy back up? Back up crown? Safehome? Implode block?

Really hope one of these is the one lol

Good luck

Daniel asks…

Does anyone know if a degree from almeda university will be accepted in the business world?

Almeda University is one of those online colleges that gives you a degree depending on your work experience. No actual class work needed. Just curious?

Jere answers:

On-line degrees are acceptable if they are from an accredited school. Being “state licensed” doesn’t matter, it’s accreditation that matters. If you receive a degree from a non-accredited school, it may be ok, but some people might view it as unacceptable. There are many accredited schools that will grant credit for life experience, but given that the purpose of many degrees is to show that you are well-rounded and have perseverance, it’s doubtful that a legit institution would grant a degree solely on experience. So check to see if they are accredited by one of the regional bodies if this is important to you:

http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/accreditation_pg7.html#RegionalInstitutional

John asks…

Whats all this business about the world ending?

I’ve read like 3 or 4 questions asking if the world is ending? I searched online and didn’t come across anything, Why does everyone think the world is ending tomorrow??
I only wonder, if the world is ending wouldn’t we be the last people to know? Think about it, the government does a lot of shit without our knowledge and if they thought this would cause public panic, don’t you think they’d keep it under wraps. Even if its another country doing it?

Jere answers:

The Large Hadron Collider is a 27-kilometre long circular particle accelerator at the CERN experimental facility near Geneva which will smash protons into each other at unimaginable speeds trying to replicate in miniature the events of the Big Bang.

If the theories are correct, the machine will create tiny Black Holes that evaporate and possibly even find particles that offer evidence that the three dimensions known to mankind are just a fraction of those that actually exist.

With all new large jumps in technology the doomsayers appear and today they spout worries that by adventuring into the unknown and creating tiny Black Holes, the machine could even threaten to destroy the planet. The probability of that is at the level of 10 to the minus 40!!!

Professor Stephen Hawking has said that without this experiment man may be doomed to die through not learning enough to enable mankind to learn the science to be able to live in space and move to other planets when this Earth is eventually threatened!!

Your Questions About Email Marketing Reviews

Donald asks…

Is this the proper way to phrase a salary negotiation email?

THE ORIGINAL OFFER WAS 27000 with incentives…but i make 27000 NOW at my current job !

Hello:

Unfortunately we have been unable to connect via phone. I hope we are able to speak today or over the weekend. I have reviewed the offer below and would like to suggest the following changes.

Base Salary should be $29,700. That meets a minimum of a 10% increase over what I am currently making. The market average is $32,000 for entry level Marketing Position with similar responsibilities. I feel that this would be a compromise considering the training that will be taking place. Even with the incentives, base salary is important to me. Please outline the other terms and conditions such as benefits upon the close of job description discussion phase. I reviewed the incentives and they are thoroughly outlined and extremely reasonable.

Please call or email me to discuss at your convenience. Thank you!

Jessica Lewis

Jere answers:

Well salary negotiation is a touchy subject. I would consider why you are going to work for this company? Is it because you are unhappy in your current job, for better opportunity or for more income. If it based solely on more income then I would go ahead and send this letter. If it is not just because of income then I would consider a lighter approach. I would be careful with the statement of “base salary should be” it sounds like that is more of a demand. I personally would say something along the lines of I am currently making 27000 and am truly interested in working for your company. Is there any way possible for a salary adjustment on that offer.

Mandy asks…

Is this a spam or legit email asking to advertising on my website?

Here’s the main content of the e-mail:

Dear
I am a marketing executive for Digitally Distinctive, a company who works with a number of reputable global clients to generate relevant and engaging online advertising on websites similar to your own. We currently have a client in the Entertainment, Kids Toys, Gadgets, Tech and Travel Industries and after reviewing we feel that it is topically relevant to our client and their users. As such I was wondering if you would be interested in placing a text-based advertisement on your site? We would pay you as soon as the advert is live via Paypal, and look to renew it yearly. Please do let me know if this interests you, and thank you for your time. Warmest Regards

<their email at the company>
www.digitallydistinctive.com

I looked at the company website and it seems legit but I’m not sure. Do companies send spam emails like this? I have had other emails before that I think were asking to advertise on my site but they were so poorly written and it was obvious that it was spam. This one is well written and formal.

If you own a website and have had someone send you the same email, I’d like to hear your thoughts.

Jere answers:

I can’t imagine why a company would send an email directly to you about advertising instead of just using an ad through some sort of ad placement system, unless you run a MAJOR website. However, I doubt you do (no offense), and I would consider it spam. However, no harm on following up, at least to see what game they’re playing. If they are legit, you got some advertising! If they’re not, meh, no harm done. Just don’t give them any information they could use to access anything you have.

Reference Available Upon Request

Jere answers:

As a hiring expert, I recommend you take out your bottom two jobs as they were pretty short and you want to look like you’ve had stable jobs. The first three are fine. And a few more job descriptions. 3 may be too short. Have 4-6 job descriptions.

You should rename your activities section as “Other Experience” and name your regular experience section as “Professional Experience”. Take out “References Available Upon Request” because you should already have your references on hand when meeting an employer.

All of my advice is very detailed on my website so find more tips here: http://www.hireme101.com/resumetips.html. I also only charge $7 to edit resumes, so my services could be useful for you.

Good luck

Laura asks…

Yahoo-Email: New “Upgrade” just announced — Best reasons to upgrade? Bet reasons not to? — MORE BELOW –?

Excerpt from latest announcement that I received from Yahoo Mail on April 7, 2011:

“If you don’t upgrade now, we recommend that you do it soon. Your current version of Yahoo! Mail will be available for the next few months, but you will eventually need to upgrade it to the newest version of Yahoo! Mail, or review Yahoo! Mail Help for other options.”

I get inquisitive when “free” services, like Yahoo Email, get “upgraded” …

1) Anybody have any insights as to what Yahoo is up to with the latest email “upgrade”?

2) Is Yahoo removing any features that currently exist? Or just adding new features?

3) How are Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo-Email, [plus other?] doing compared to each other, market-share-wise and feature-wise?

4) Best reasons to switch to Hotmail or Gmail? Best reasons to stick with Yahoo-Email?

5) Who are the best providers when it comes to PAID [non-free] email service? In regards to providers who do not collect/track any of your personal information, shopping-history, etc. and give or sell that info to others?

~ thanks for your answers ~

Jere answers:

It must mean yahoo beta. I got this last year and its ok. They are probably going to do away with the old one but there really isnt much difference

Maria asks…

Anyone else get a NIC labs email like this? I think it’s a scam…?

I just got the following email, and it is definitely a scam. The writing style is all off…. the way that he specifies USD instead of putting in a dollar sign or saying dollars tipped me off, and then he specifies use of Western Union (http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/view.php?pg=fw_western_union) and another money transfer option. Plus, what company would let their money go through a middle man when it could be sent straight to them? and if it were going to be a middle man, wouldn’t they want it to be a legit money handling company and not just some random person? He also does not give an address, phone number, specific website URL, or specify which specific email address I should “contact” his company through. Plus, the job he mentions isn’t mentioned anywhere on the website for the company he claims to represent. They are apparently abusing access to websites like Monster with fraudulant type of activity.

I’d like to add, the company he cites seems legit, but whoever wrote the email does not seem to actually be one of their employees. Someone does exist with this name, but I highly doubt that it was actually written by anyone whose real name is such. Scammers often cite real names/companies to seem legit and “gain trust”. The email is as follows, although I removed my name and replaced it with underscores.

niclabs@gmx.us to me

Jere answers:

Thanks for posting up the information on that scammer.

Making a scammer’s scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time “get the word out”.

Thanks!!

Wasting a scammer’s time legally and safely is called “scambaiting”. If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, post up a fake website, read up on how to alert a hosting company that they are hosting a fake website, ask questions and learn all about the hobby of scambaiting.

Your Questions About The Real Biz

Mary asks…

Is it ok to mix 2 businesses on one business card?

I have a real estate license, and I am also an interior designer. I need to order new real estate cards. I designed the card just for real estate, and in the back I included a statement that says that I can also help with interior design services. Do you think it’s inappropriate to do this?

Jere answers:

There are always creative ways to get the job done. If these two businesses were not related, then certainly two separate biz cards would be in order, however, these businesses are highly related.

I think you can advertise both businesses even within the same content, on the same side of the card. For example, something like this might be fun, and attention getting:

I decorate em, then I sell em! Call me for either service you need. I am an expert in both Interior Design, and Real Estate.

Or:

I get your home pretty, then I get it sold! Interior Design / Real Estate.

These professions go so well together, I think they should be advertised together. It helps you stand out both as a Designer, and as an Agent.

Hope this helped you.

The first part will teach you how to download youtube video to computer for free, if you want to watch youtube video on TV, the second part will teach you how to burn YouTube video to DVD to play on standard DVD player, my friend sent it to me, it’s easy to understand and works great for me.

Your Questions About Direct Marketing Strategies

Maria asks…

marketing offensive and defence (warfare) strategies?

i need to find some actual examples of organisations that have used these strategies. so far i have examples of defence strategies but im stuck on whos used offensive (attack) strategies………

Encirclement strategy- surround opponent with range of specific products/services but avoid direct competition.

Flank attack- attack competition’s weak spot (undefended segment/aging product)

Bypass attack- move in to areas not covered by opponents

Guerilla attack – hit and run, short term measures such as price cuts and promotions

if you could make some suggestions that would be brill!

Jere answers:

Encirclement strategy – Smirnoff Vodka used encirclement strategy when another product was introduced and positioned itself directly against Smirnoff, but at a lower price (Kotler, 1981). Smirnoff counterattacked by first raising it’s prices, which preserved their quality image. After raising their prices, they introduced another brand, marketed it at the same price as the competition, and introduced another brand at a lower price

Flank attack , in the mid 1970’s Xerox owned eighty-eight percent of the plain-paper copier market; however, almost ten years later the Japanese based Canon Copier took over half of Xerox’s market (Kotler 1981). The main reason Canon took over such a large portion of Xerox’s market was by use of the flanking strategy. Canon focused on the small size copier market that could not afford Xerox’s larger copiers. This attack was successful because it put the attackers strength against the defenders weakness (Kotler 1981).

Bypass attack – When Colgate-Palmolive tried to enter the nonwoven textiles and health care business, it did not have to fight Procter and Gamble’s strengths because they used the bypass strategy

Guerilla attack when IBM won a lawsuit against Hitachi on the grounds that Hitachi stole IBM software. Because IBM won this small battle, Japanese computer manufacturers had to become defensive by investing large sums of money into scarce software research and development personnel who had to re-write old programs and develop new programs which did not interfere with IBM’s intellectual property rights

Sandy asks…

describe the role internet marketing has within a modern marketing context?

Marketing: increased integration of marketing mix (4 Ps) and extended mix (7 Ps); relationship marketing; importance of identification of new product and market development opportunities; modern information and communications technologies (ICTs); strategies to achieve business objectives; technology-enabled targeting and segmentation eg demographical, psychographic, economic, usage based; business-to-business (b2b), business-to consumer (b2c) and consumer-to-consumer (c2c) such as eBay; disintermediation and direct market communication by producers

Internet marketing: greater individualisation of market attention eg one-to-one relationships, mass
customisation, increased information and cost-effective information gathering methods; reaching wider and more distant markets; product impact, enhancing traditional products and services, online games and music, mix between on and off line activities; opportunities enhancing marketing effectiveness eg through ‘one-to-one’ communications; understand customers and target more effectively
this is to help me with my btec coursework for business, so please try and explain and help me as well as you can, thank you.

Besides Traffic Geyser, there is a free service called Tube Mogul. It works in much the same way. Additionally there is a software package I found called Tube Mastery (http://www.websitemarketingskills.com/recommends/TubeMastery) which works really well in terms of how to market on YouTube. The same basic information is true on the other sites, as well. Use your profile page to link to your site and use calls to action to get people to respond. I would just buy that program and familiarize yourself with it.

George asks…

is there a forum for owners of PC repair shops to discuss prices and business strategies?

I am looking for forums with PC business owners like myself to discuss pricing and marketing strategies, but I can’t find it in any of my searches. For example, what are high and low prices for full system recovery with backup? It would be great to discuss these issues with others from other states who aren’t in direct competition!
no, just discussion of pricing for services in other markets that aren’t in direct competition with each other.
Cust. told me he was looking at porn. HEAVY INFECTIONS removed and charged $180 for 2 hrs., but XP system corrupted. Next day tried Windows repair, but it couldn’t find a driver, so I backed up all data, then full system recovery, reinstalled drivers and data and charged normal flat rate fee for this: $300. So now cust. is mad because he said for the $480 he spent on this he could have bought a new unit. I explained that we never know what effects malware will have on a system after cleaning, and he would still have had infected data to go on a new unit. We charge $180 for data recovery.
So far he has paid me $180 for malware removal and $216 for annual managed services program ($396 total)and even though it’s fair, feel reluctant to charge the $300 extra for full recovery bringing total to $696! Anyone have any suggestions? In this economy and market, am I ripping him off or asking for a fair return? Thanks so much!

Jere answers:

You mean price fixing and collusion. I’m not certain, but that just might be illegal.

Your Questions About Business Online Services

Carol asks…

How do I get people to answer my online survey?

I created a webmonkey survey for some market research for my business. Is there an online service where people take surveys. I can’t pay!

Jere answers:

Request from your regular customers to fill out the survey so that you could better improve your services to them. If you have a strong repeat-customer base, you can possibly get atleast 1/10 people you ask to take the survey.

The key for surveys is to have a strong and justified purpose for having one being done. Most people don’t like doing surveys, thus when conducting a survey you need to ensure that it is going to deliver vital data for performance improval.

Apart from getting loyal/repeat customers, the other way is to have a raffle/draw type of survey, where you give away a few prizes to a lucky few participants for taking the survey. Giving some type of incentive wil likely draw a bigger crowd to take the survey.

James asks…

How can i get an experience (online) business person to help me pilot my business..?

I have an idea for an online service business and i just need some push and someone to help me get started.

Jere answers:

Go to http://www.score.org/mentors and enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a volunteer SCORE counselor. They will guide you through the process.

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide and is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

SCORE has 350 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 13,000 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.

Jenny asks…

What Bank is best if Fidelity Investments is used as the online Broker?

If I am using Fidelity Investments for their broker services, would it be beneficial to also use their bank? What’re the gains? If there aren’t any, what bank would you suggest?

As a little extra question that I have, when I download the Fidelity business application for the online broker services, how can I put multiple partner information on it? Copies?

Jere answers:

I don’t use the bank of my brokerage either, they always try to give me reasons but i haven’t done it yet. Their big pitch to me is that it will be easier to have access to my money but i haven’t encountered any problems so i cant be bothered to switch. That being said if they are willing to offer you something to switch maybe it is in your best interest.

Mark asks…

I’m looking for legal/professional advice. What are the steps in forming a freelance part-time company?

I’m looking to start a freelance illustration company. I have a full time employment, but wish to get my illustration company up and running, part-time only. It would only be one employee, myself. I need to find any information as to what steps to take in regards to IRS, New Jersey law. As my business will be an online service.

Jere answers:

Given the potential legal liabilities that could be tied to an illustration company, copyright infringement being one of them, it would be prudent for you to incorporate your business. Incorporating your business will afford you some measure of protection to your personal assets if someone should sue your business. You will need to file a certificate of incorporation or you can incorporate online with New Jersey at https://www.state.nj.us/cgi-bin/treasury/revenue/dcr/filing/page1.cgi

After incorporating, the next step is to get a federal tax ID number for the corporation (called an Employer Identification Number) from the IRS by applying at https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/index.jsp

After that you are going to want to make what is known as an S-election for your corporation with the IRS within 75 days of your incorporation. The form to make the election can be found at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f2553.pdf and the instructions can be found at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i2553.pdf

You will want to make a corresponding election with New Jersey. The form and instructions can be found at http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/revenue/sub-s.pdf

What these elections do is prevent you from having your income taxed twice, once as corporate income and a second time as personal income and/or dividend income when you transfer income from the corporation to you. Instead it gets treated as a disregarded entity and your income is only taxed once on your personal income tax return.

Even with this general outline, it may be confusing for you to navigate the entire process on your own. You may want to consider having an attorney handle the process for you.

Good luck.

Lizzie asks…

Are there any good and secure online fax services for individuals?

I need to fax something from overseas and it is hard to send a paper fax here. Does anyone know of a online fax service that is free or affordable for individuals (not businesses) and that is secure?

Jere answers:

You are absolutely correct. It is really difficult to send paper fax. That is why there are internet fax / email fax services out there. I know one of the leading services related to internet fax is Ring Central at Canada, US and UK.

Your Questions About Business Online San Diego

Maria asks…

Please help 🙁 I need to know the amount of dogs you can have per household in the San Diego County?

Please help me everyone. I have two beautiful german shepherd pups and two chihuahuas. A few minutes ago a lady came to my house claiming there had been a complaint because my dogs bark too much and she repeatedly told me it was called ” Nuisance “. I searched online and this had nothing to do with barking. More with having my dogs do their business in other peoples properties. Trust me when I say this, they hate going to the bathroom in public. They only go in MY backyard. She tried to be all professional telling me Nuisance was when my dogs barked and disturbed others. Anyhow she told me my dogs had to be registered and have all their vaccines (which they do) and that I could not have any more than 2 dogs in my home. I tried searching but I cant find anything about that. Me and my partner take very good care of them, and both my shepherds love to wine and bark when they play. One of them is 3 months and the other 5 months old. she told me that the Animal Control Services would come to my home in about 2-3 days. Please help me, I do not want to loose them. 🙁 I love my 4 dogs. Can they really take them away just because my neighbors do not like me or them? They are just puppies I am not cruel, I don’t want to put them a choke collar, a muzzle, or scream at them. Its their nature to run and play. 🙁
Thank you everyone so far, and thank you milli. Do not worry, my dogs do have their baths and sleep in the garage they are just outside throughout the day. They love it. We walk them at LEAST 3 times a day, and even some of my neighbors know them and tell me how beautiful my dogs are. No doubt about that that they are well taken care of. Its just that when they play they do love to bark, they are puppies. They are not even half a year old, its like telling a baby not to cry.
3 times a week not day ahaha sorry

Jere answers:

2 dogs? That’s the biggest BS I’ve EVER heard! I know a girl who recently moved from SD and she had 7 dogs, I don’t know if that was legal or not, but she did. Animal control will not seize the dogs simply because ‘there are too many’ anyways. If the dogs are barking excessively, you cannot provide proper vet care, and your house is filthy and unkept, then they will seize the dogs- no matter the number.

If they rarely bark, the dogs are of good health, up to date on shots, they don’t go in other peoples yard and your house is sanitary, animal control has no reason to seize the dogs or even come out there. The Baton rouge maximum is 12 with the exceptions of dog breeders. Call animal control and ask, them- they will gladly tell you the maximum.

Ken asks…

With so many great homes, neighborhoods, and cities in America, how do you determine where you want to live?

I own an online business in California and I’m going to be looking for a home soon. I just can’t figure out where to start looking I like San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles but they all have so many great neighborhoods and homes. I’ve even considered Florida and Texas! So I want to know how did you choose your place of residence.

Jere answers:

Family- close to my family, close to my husbands… Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice- LOL

William asks…

Does Anybody know where I can Get Authentic Affliction Shirts at Wholesale/Cheap Prices?

I have been looking for a while, for somebody to supply me with Authentic Affliction T-Shirts? I know it is definitely possible to get these shirts at cheap prices and at wholesale prices, because I used to do Business with a person here in San Diego, and they used to sell me the shirts at $18.00 each. But unfortunately this person has disappeared and I need someone else who can get me the shirts at a good price. Please if anybody knows someone or who can supply me with the shirts, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I can do Business online, since I am used to the whole Paypal and communication over the web system.

Thanks!

Jere answers:

If you are looking to buy in wholesale you should prefer buying directly from the suppliers. You can easily get the list of suppliers with complete contact details from good B2B websites. You can even contact or call these suppliers directly from these B2B websites for free. Try http://www.hellotrade.com or http://www.fashionproducts.com to find suppliers for your products.

Betty asks…

please tell me how I come across in my online dating profile!?

To keep it simple, I grew up in Philadelphia before moving to San Diego when I was 12, but returned to U.Penn for undergrad. I worked in Boston for about 4 years (which I loved) and then moved North to receive my MBA at Stanford Business School. I now live in LA working in investment management. I have found the job of my dreams and am now ready to find my other half. I will take my best guess at how my friends would describe me which would be easy going, fun, caring, patient, confident but not cocky, loyal, and an overall “good guy”. I am looking for someone to simply enjoy…..sounds easy enough, but I am sure everyone reading this knows exactly how challenging it can be to find the subtleties of such a simple concept. I don’t think describing my perfect girl is all that productive….if it clicks…it clicks. I believe the family values by which I was raised have shaped who I have become today and hope to find someone who shares those values. What better place to look than online 😉

Jere answers:

It sounds as if this is your resume, and although great, it won’t make a girl want to just say aaaahhhh…..that’s hot. Describe the personal you not the professional you.

Charles asks…

Where can i get Sweet Dreams Cigarettes?

I live in San Diego, CA
Is there any way i can get Sweet Dreams Vanilla cigarettes in stores?? instead of shopping online
and feel free to suggest me any better vanilla flavored brand, i LOVE vanilla.

P.S. Please don’t start lecturing how Cig can kill me. I know what im doing, so mind your own business. Please just answer the question.

Jere answers:

Yes they are cool I have purchased them plenty of times in the past. I would check head shops (place where you find adult movies and pipes) to see if you could find them there. That is usually where I find them. Also check any seedy gas stations you can find they sometimes will sell them.

Your Questions About How To Do Share Business Online

Laura asks…

Do I need to be incorporated or have a business liscenses before owning an online store?

Like does my store name have to be incorporated and do I need a business licenses and anything else before running an online store online? I have been reading books about everything you need to know about an online business and web design and I’m also majoring in Bachelor’s in BA. I already know of a few names I’ve come up with for my domain name and already know what products and stuff I wanna sell and I know some about marketing and how to advertise, but as far as any legal stuff, is there anything I need to know before getting my store up and running? I know I have to register my domain name. Also any tips or ideas you would like to share are welcomed and if anybody that owns an online store and would like to post there website so I can maybe get some sample ideas. I’ve been wanting to own an online store for a long time now.
Thanks In advance 🙂 Any help, tips, and ideas are greatly appreciated 🙂 Anybody with serious answers to my question or could give me any tips or ideas will get a discount on your first purchase when I get my online store finished. I will post or email you (if that’s okay with y’all) my website name whenever I’m finished with it:)

Jere answers:

I will start by says congrats. It’s no easy Challenge to start a business today online or otherwise. You will want to check with an accountant first, but I will suggest an LLC. This will help you on the tax issues and help protect your personal finances in a lawsuit. You will have to remember that you become an employee to the company so the company will have to pay Medicare/Soc.Sec. On you. In other words you will get a paycheck. If your store is going to sell over State lines you will need to know if you have to charge sales tax. Not all states are tax free when products are sold online.
Tip: When you get online you will have people try to sell you their SEO service. You can do this yourself but talk with them and find out what they know. This will help with getting your site searched by the searched engines. Search Engines don’t automatically look for you.

Linda asks…

How can I come up with some great ideas for starting a business?

A small business to begin with of course…

I find that one of the most challenging things to starting a business is coming up with an idea with the kind of business you want to have. This is not easy for me.

What are some things/ideas/places you could recommend to me for starting a business? One of my friends tells me to identify a local need within your community and do some research on it and go from there? What are your thoughts about starting an online business? Can I have a business that has 0% investment or do I have to initially put some money in?

Ideas/thoughts/insight on how I can come up with ideas for a small business would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone in advance for your shared knowledge.

Jere answers:

First look at what you have to offer in the way of skills. What do you know how to do, why would someone pay you to do that?
Some business are basically buying a job like cleaning office buildings or mowing lawns or any of hundreds of service businesses.
I would probably start a CPA firm but I have been a CPA and could get my license in a couple of weeks if I tried. My nephew bought an auto repair shop but he is a mechanic.
Finding a local need is a great idea, here it is hard to get anyone to put in side sewers, remodel anything they don’t even want to show up to do bids. One nephew has a young man that is only 22 and won’t share him until he is done having him remodel his kitchen and bathroom, I want him for two bathrooms next, that young man will be working as much as he can stand for life.

Donna asks…

Which online business idea should I pick?

Hello. I would like to start an online business/company over the summer. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have two ideas which I think could be really profitable. The problem is, I was quoted 40-50 thousand to make each site (except for the other business ideas). I just dont have that kind of money to even build one site. I will list the ideas below, and could you please tell me which idea you think is more profitable. How should I go about building the site? Should I hire someone on craigslist, rent a coder, etc.? Or should I try to build it my self? What should I use? I dont know programming or coding or web design.

1. My first idea is a website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. Users could also create a page where they could post info, and find new band members. I like this idea since the only competition is www.purevolume.com. PureVolume is making $300 a day! If I make a better site, why can’t i make that or more? I would sell ad space on the site. Accounts would be free, but if the site became big enough, I would create a pro membership that costs money in addition to the free account. If you think this idea could be profitable, how should I go about creating the site? I got quoted 40-50k to build by a web design firm. Should I use Kickapps which lets you create a social network site where user submit content (videos, MUSIC, videos etc.) for a small fee? Should I hire a developer on rent a coder?

2. My second idea is a website where users could post, list, sell, buy, auction, and trade websites. An ebay or amazon marketplace for websites. Users would post the site link with info and a snapshot and price, and other users would buy the site if they wanted to. I would take a small 4% commision from the sale. I would also sell ad space on the website. This website has some competition such as websitebroker.com, flippa.com, and sitepoint.com, but the potential is huge, and there is room for another player. If you think this site is profitable, how should I build it? Should I hire someone or build it myself. If build it myself, how should I build it?

3. My third idea is to sign up for resellerdynamics. You pay $1000 to them and they give you liscense to re sell there website building software on your own website and charge fees per month. they were reviewed in small business opportunity mag as a good opportunity and bbb says they are legit.

4. My last idea is to make a website with lots of articles, reviews, comparisons, etc. on cell phones. I would also sign up to be an affiliate with verizon, att, sprint, etc., and sell phones on my site. I know there are a lot of competition out there such as phonearena, phonedog, cnet, and mobiledia, but each site doest the same thing as the other site, and they all are making great money. By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. Like if I call the site www.sprocketfish.com, could I make a company called Sprocketfish Inc. that runs the website and could I be CEO of Sprocketfish Inc.?

I really want to make one of these websites with as low startup as possible. I know I would have to market like crazy and do site matinence, but please help me. My parents think i should do a business like normal teens where you mow the lawn, babysit, etc, but I really want to do online business and hopefully make a good living. I think my sites ideas have potential. Which idea should I do? Which idea is more profitable? Even if you think they are not profitable, which would you choose if you had to? How should I build it?

Thanks!

PS, I am becoming a dealer at Kaeser and Blair and selling promotinal products to get me some startup cash for my online companies (websites).

Thanks!!

Jere answers:

Oh boy, you’ve really thought this one through. I’d go with the first idea because that seems to be something i’ve always wanted to use.

James asks…

Entrepreneurship: Online eCommerce business start up help.?

Hello Guys,

Hope you all are doing well.

I have a software engineer and possess a good knowledge about website development. Now I want to setup my online product selling business. But confuse in taking the decision of market area or product, which are going to focus.

Basically following things are most important to setup of any online business.

1. Setup online ecommerce store.
-> I am going to use eBay selling shop or setup my own ecommerce store.

2. Product to sale online
-> I am confused here; initially I like to go with a single product of any company. So what’s next procedure I need to follow here?

Let’s suppose, I am going to sale Tupperware product online.

So in that case,

Can I need to become distributor of this product?
Can I need to buy bulk in advance?
Can I need to setup my shop or warehouse to store all items?
Can I need to pay in advance?
How can I link my online store with Tupperware product?

etc… Etc….

3. Shipping/Payment

Which are the best methods to handle shipping/payment options?

Your suggestions are always welcome. If you have any other better options then please share with me.

Jere answers:

I think we have a solution that just suits what you are looking at. Ideally on online sales the more the number of products you have the better the sales. Cross selling needs to be done and it sends exposure to all your products. Whenever we are retailing products we consider our taste in mind and procure products what we feel will sell. But possibly the buyer doesn’t have the same taste as ours and must be looking at something else. Example : Some people like light and sober colors while buying clothes and some like dark or loud colors. If I like sober or light colors doesn’t mean only it will sell. Secondly as the store is online and not localized the preferences could be totally different.

You Can sell on Ebay, Indiatimes, Rediff…. And make extra money. As these sites already have a huge member base you sell to captive buyers. You can source from nearest Wholesale Markets and buy in reasonable volumes and get good prices. You can also get the products drop shipped. Where you just use information from the drop shippers site and create listings on the above sites. Whenever you sell you buy from the drop shipping company and they ship it to your client directly. You make the difference in selling and buying price creating a profit. Using dropshipping you don’t have the risk of dead stock and huge investments.

“Indiadropshipping.com – Simplifying Sourcing for Retailers! Now Sell online on eBay, indiatimes, rediff, junglee or own online stores without maintaining an inventory or making regular runs to the post office or courier office. You sell the product and we ship it for you to your customer in your own name. No need to let your customer know that we are the suppliers. You can become a retailer without needing to invest large amounts of money. You can start a business with very little risk. You don’t have to carry inventory or pay for inventory upfront-if the product doesn’t sell, you don’t have to buy it. You don’t have to buy packaging materials and shipping labels, nor will you need a shipping account. You purchase products at wholesale pricing and set your own retail prices. To know more Check http://www.indiadropshipping.com ” Dont forget to send your contact number.

Jere answers:

Ok noticing a few flaws in your plans…

1. You sound as if you want cheap help to do this site. If you want to compete with PureVolume you have to be looking sharp, don’t make it look home made know this may be expensive but figure it out somehow

2. You said Purevolume makes 300 a day .you said if your business goes professional you will just lower prices in order to compete,it’s not always easier. Companies always fight back. But Purevolume may not be sophisticated enough to do that, but you never know.so i suggest you pick up a good book on business competition

3.You need a team and not your self. You dont wanna come down with the flue and loose revenue, if you have friends they can help you out and you can cut em in

im gonna recommend you some books to read to get you started K? Some might be a bit technical but its worth it.it’s a nice advantage knowing what others don’t (in act these book are not expense more of an investment on you mind)

1.Starting an Online Business for Dummies by Greg Holden (help you start)
2.Starting Your Own Online Business: All You Need to Know to Start a Successful Online Business by Kim Benjamin (help you start)
3.Search Engine Optimization: An Hour a Day by Jennifer Grappone and Gradiva Couzin (help you market)
4.Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors (for competative strategy)

this is just a little bit to help you sink your feet into the business ground a bit more- hope this helps

Can i have 10 points?
