If you sell things online in Australia do you have to notify the government or buy a business name ?
I am considering selling hair accessories online but have no idea if I make a website if I need to notify anyone. Or if I need to buy a business name etc please help.

You can make your own website on your own through a web hosting company, you do not need to notify the government at all the only problem is that you will only get a .com domain name, you have to apply for an ABN if you want a domain.com.au. You can then approach a website optimization company like google that will get your website highly positioned on the search list allowing for more customers. If you find the right hosting company and have a bit of knowledge you can do this for under $80.

How to get funding for a small business(government grants/loans)?
So I have a pretty good idea for a business and it actually doesn’t need a whole lot of starting capital. I don’t think its good enough to win any awards so I don’t think it would win any pepsi challenge or whatever. But for just a regular online retail business, how would I get funding. I thought I heard the government helps out with grants or loans because they want to encourage small businesses. And, if you can do it, can I get some resources? Like website links not the money itself haha. Probably only need between 5-10k at the very most.

Go to http://grants.gov/ and follow the instructions. You will find that unless you are a nonprofit, in basic research or daycare, there are no grants for a small business. Some cities offer grants to small businesses if they will locate in the downtown area or want to upgrade their store front, for the purposes of building up downtown traffic. Check with your City Hall for details. Private foundations offer grants. You can get a list of most US Foundations and private grant sources at http://www.foundations.org/

Please help me figure out what I am doing wrong?
First of all please don’t advise me to see a councellor, I have tried – I have always been seen as someone who doesn’t really need face to face advice. However, something is going wrong in my life and I don’t know what it is.
I was very depressed for 2 years in 6th form at college. I made alot of online friends and used to feel better that way. I then went to University and things started to look up. However, then my Mum died. I was still getting over my 6th form trauma and when this happened I felt I couldn’t handle anything. I wanted to drop university but I kept on going.
I graduated, but felt numb when graudated. I then straight away started my own online business with a government grant. This online business went down.
However, through all this period people have always always said “You have not no life”, “why don’t you make more of an effort with people”. I get it from my sisters and family continuously.
I started to join evening courses, and used to contact old friends to build up a network. However, no matter what I do in any shape or form people start saying that I have no life. I don’t understand. Please help me.

Look up exercise and depression online it releases endorfins which improve mood and brain chemistry. And Art Therapy; channelling what ur feeling into something creative helps ur brain process the negativity in ur head. Also find some volunteer work; helping others or nature builds selfesteem, gives life new meaning gives perspective and good karma… U dont have to believe in god but finding some spirituality can really help and good karma is a good start… Basically research all u can on depression then when u find things that help come on here and share with the other deprrssed people, more good karma. Good luck. Why not join clubs groups and activities in your community where you’ll meet like minded people. Or challenge yourself by joining group you would normally be interested in.

Is it hard to get government housing?
Sup guys, I’m a 20 year old looking into getting government housing near my college campus for only a year or 2 till I get good enough grades to transfer to a university. I haven’t had a job for 2 months but I run my own business online which makes me enough money to get by and get the necessities I need. Do you think they will let me get government housing or do they only give them out to people with families? and how hard is it to get government housing?

There is no such thing as government student housing. College students do not qualify for any government housing at all.

Registering a business depends on the particular location you decide to settle in. Some places want you to have a physical location before they’ll sell you a business license. Also, the particular procedure you need to follow depends on what type of business you have; retail, wholesale, new/used goods, food service, etc.
A Net business might not need a license at all; you’ll need to check that too.
